Description

蓄冷材粒子、蓄冷材粒子群、蓄冷器、冷凍機、クライオポンプ、超電導磁石、核磁気共鳴イメージング装置、核磁気共鳴装置、磁界印加式単結晶引上げ装置、及び、ヘリウム再凝縮装置
 本発明の実施形態は、蓄冷材粒子、蓄冷材粒子群、蓄冷器、冷凍機、クライオポンプ、超電導磁石、核磁気共鳴イメージング装置、核磁気共鳴装置、磁界印加式単結晶引上げ装置、及び、ヘリウム再凝縮装置に関する。
 近年、超電導技術の発展は著しく、超電導技術の応用分野が拡大するに伴って小型で高性能の極低温冷凍機の開発が不可欠になってきている。極低温冷凍機は、軽量かつ小型で熱効率の高いことが要求される。極低温冷凍機は、種々の応用分野において実用化が進められている。
 極低温冷凍機は、複数の蓄冷材粒子を充填した蓄冷器を備える。例えば、蓄冷材粒子と、蓄冷器の中を通るヘリウムガスとの間で熱交換を行うことにより、寒冷を発生させる。極低温冷凍機の動作中の蓄冷材粒子の破壊を抑制するために、蓄冷材粒子には高い機械的強度を備えることが要求される。

 本発明が解決しようとする課題は、高い機械的強度を備えた蓄冷材粒子を提供することにある。
 実施形態の蓄冷材粒子は、イットリウム(Y)、ランタン(La)、セリウム(Ce)、プラセオジム(Pr)、ネオジム(Nd)、プロメチウム(Pm)、サマリウム(Sm)、ユウロピウム(Eu)、ガドリニウム(Gd)、テルビウム(Tb)、ジスプロシウム(Dy)、ホルミウム(Ho)、エルビウム(Er)、ツリウム(Tm)、及びイッテルビウム(Yb)からなる群から選ばれる少なくとも一つの第1の元素と、ニッケル(Ni)、コバルト(Co)、銅(Cu)、銀(Ag)、ガリウム(Ga)、ビスマス(Bi)、シリコン(Si)、アルミニウム(Al)、及びルテニウム(Ru)からなる群から選ばれる少なくとも一つの第2の元素と、を含む第1の領域と、前記第1の領域と化学組成が異なり、断面における面積割合が前記第1の領域より小さく、前記断面における粒子の外縁までの最小距離が5μm以上であり、炭素(C)、酸素(O)、及び窒素(N)からなる群から選ばれる少なくとも一つの第3の元素を含む第2の領域と、を含む。

 本明細書中、極低温とは、例えば、超電導現象を工業的に有用に利用できる温度域を意味する。極低温とは、例えば、25K以下の温度域である。
(第1の実施形態)
 第1の実施形態の蓄冷材粒子は、イットリウム(Y)、ランタン(La)、セリウム(Ce)、プラセオジム(Pr)、ネオジム(Nd)、プロメチウム(Pm)、サマリウム(Sm)、ユウロピウム(Eu)、ガドリニウム(Gd)、テルビウム(Tb)、ジスプロシウム(Dy)、ホルミウム(Ho)、エルビウム(Er)、ツリウム(Tm)、及びイッテルビウム(Yb)からなる群から選ばれる少なくとも一つの第1の元素と、ニッケル(Ni)、コバルト(Co)、銅(Cu)、銀(Ag)、ガリウム(Ga)、ビスマス(Bi)、シリコン(Si)、アルミニウム(Al)、及びルテニウム(Ru)からなる群から選ばれる少なくとも一つの第2の元素と、を含む第1の領域と、第1の領域と化学組成が異なり、断面における面積割合が第1の領域より小さく、断面における粒子の外縁までの最小距離が5μm以上であり、炭素(C)、酸素(O)、及び窒素(N)からなる群から選ばれる少なくとも一つの第3の元素を含む第2の領域と、を含む。
 図1は、第1の実施形態の蓄冷材粒子の模式断面図である。図2は、第1の実施形態の蓄冷材粒子の拡大模式断面図である。図2は、図1に示される断面の一部の拡大模式断面図である。第1の実施形態の蓄冷材粒子100は、希土類元素及び金属を含む磁性蓄冷材粒子である。
 蓄冷材粒子100の粒径は、例えば、50μm以上3mm以下である。蓄冷材粒子100の形状は、例えば、球状である。蓄冷材粒子100の形状は、例えば、紡錘状、又は、表面に凹凸を有する不定形状であっても構わない。
 本明細書中、蓄冷材粒子の粒径とは、円相当径である。円相当径は、光学顕微鏡画像又は走査電子顕微鏡画像などの画像で観察される図形の面積に相当する真円の直径である。蓄冷材粒子の粒径は、例えば、光学顕微鏡画像又は走査電子顕微鏡画像の画像解析により求めることが可能である。
 蓄冷材粒子100の投影像の周囲長さをLとし、投影像の実面積をAとしたとき、4πA/Lで表される円形度Rは、例えば、0.5より大きい。蓄冷材粒子100の円形度Rは、例えば、光学顕微鏡画像又は走査電子顕微鏡画像の画像解析により求めることが可能である。
 蓄冷材粒子100のアスペクト比は、例えば、1以上5以下である。蓄冷材粒子100のアスペクト比とは、蓄冷材粒子100の短径に対する長径の比である。蓄冷材粒子100のアスペクト比は、例えば、光学顕微鏡画像又は走査電子顕微鏡画像の画像解析により求めることが可能である。
 蓄冷材粒子100の25K以下の温度範囲における体積比熱の最大値は、例えば、0.38J/(cm・K)以上である。
 第1の実施形態の蓄冷材粒子100は、第1の領域10a及び第2の領域10bを含む。第1の実施形態の蓄冷材粒子100は、例えば、複数の第2の領域10bを含む。
 第1の領域10aは、イットリウム(Y)、ランタン(La)、セリウム(Ce)、プラセオジム(Pr)、ネオジム(Nd)、プロメチウム(Pm)、サマリウム(Sm)、ユウロピウム(Eu)、ガドリニウム(Gd)、テルビウム(Tb)、ジスプロシウム(Dy)、ホルミウム(Ho)、エルビウム(Er)、ツリウム(Tm)、及びイッテルビウム(Yb)からなる群から選ばれる少なくとも一つの第1の元素と、ニッケル(Ni)、コバルト(Co)、銅(Cu)、銀(Ag)、ガリウム(Ga)、ビスマス(Bi)、シリコン(Si)、アルミニウム(Al)、及びルテニウム(Ru)からなる群から選ばれる少なくとも一つの第2の元素と、を含む。
 第1の元素は、希土類元素である。第2の元素は金属元素とである。第1の領域10aは、例えば、希土類元素と金属元素の化合物を含む。第1の領域10aは、例えば、希土類元素と金属元素の化合物で構成される。
 第1の領域10aに含まれる化合物の化学組成は、例えば、RMx(Rはイットリウム(Y)、ランタン(La)、セリウム(Ce)、プラセオジム(Pr)、ネオジム(Nd)、プロメチウム(Pm)、サマリウム(Sm)、ユウロピウム(Eu)、ガドリニウム(Gd)、テルビウム(Tb)、ジスプロシウム(Dy)、ホルミウム(Ho)、エルビウム(Er)、ツリウム(Tm)、及びイッテルビウム(Yb)からなる群から選ばれる少なくとも一つの希土類元素、Mはニッケル(Ni)、コバルト(Co)、銅(Cu)、銀(Ag)、ガリウム(Ga)、ビスマス(Bi)、シリコン(Si)、アルミニウム(Al)、及びルテニウム(Ru)からなる群から選ばれる少なくとも一つの金属元素、xは1以上13以下)で表すことができる。
 第1の領域10aは、例えば、ホルミウム(Ho)及びニッケル(Ni)を含む。第1の領域10aは、例えば、ホルミウム(Ho)とニッケル(Ni)の化合物を含む。第1の領域10aは、例えば、HoNi又はHoNiを含む。
 第1の領域10aは、例えば、ホルミウム(Ho)及び銅(Cu)を含む。第1の領域10aは、例えば、ホルミウム(Ho)と銅(Cu)の化合物を含む。第1の領域10aは、例えば、HoCu又はHoCuを含む。
 第1の領域10aは、例えば、エルビウム(Er)及びニッケル(Ni)を含む。第1の領域10aは、例えば、エルビウム(Er)とニッケル(Ni)の化合物を含む。第1の領域10aは、例えば、ErNi又はErNiを含む。
 第1の領域10aは、例えば、エルビウム(Er)及びコバルト(Co)を含む。第1の領域10aは、例えば、エルビウム(Er)とコバルト(Co)の化合物を含む。第1の領域10aは、例えば、ErCoを含む。
 第2の領域10bは、第1の領域10aと化学組成が異なる。第2の領域10bは、炭素(C)、酸素(O)、及び窒素(N)からなる群から選ばれる少なくとも一つの第3の元素を含む。
 第2の領域10bに含まれる第3の元素は、例えば、炭素(C)及び酸素(O)である。
 第1の領域10aは第3の元素を含むか、又は、含まない。第1の領域10aが第3の元素を含む場合、第2の領域10bに含まれる第3の元素の原子濃度は、第1の領域10aに含まれる第3の元素の原子濃度よりも高い。第2の領域10bに含まれる第3の元素の原子濃度は、第1の領域10aに含まれる第3の元素の原子濃度よりも、例えば、10原子%以上高い。第2の領域10bに含まれる第3の元素の原子濃度と、第1の領域10aに含まれる第3の元素の原子濃度の差は、例えば、10原子%以上50原子%以下である。
 第2の領域10bは、例えば、第1の領域10aに含まれるのと同じ第1の元素、及び、第1の領域10aに含まれるのと同じ第2の元素を含む。例えば、第1の領域10aがホルミウム(Ho)及びニッケル(Ni)を含む場合、第2の領域10bもホルミウム(Ho)及びニッケル(Ni)を含む。例えば、第1の領域10aがホルミウム(Ho)及び銅(Cu)を含む場合、第2の領域10bもホルミウム(Ho)及び銅(Cu)を含む。例えば、第1の領域10aがエルビウム(Er)及びニッケル(Ni)を含む場合、第2の領域10bもエルビウム(Er)及びニッケル(Ni)を含む。例えば、第1の領域10aがエルビウム(Er)及びコバルト(Co)を含む場合、第2の領域10bもエルビウム(Er)及びコバルト(Co)を含む。
 第1の領域10a又は第2の領域10bに含まれる元素及び元素の原子濃度は、例えば、エネルギー分散型X線分光法(Energy Dispersive X-ray spectroscopy:EDX)により判定できる。
 蓄冷材粒子100に含まれる化合物は、粉末X線回折法(Powder X‐ray Diffraction:PXRD)により特定できる。
 第1の領域10aは、例えば、蓄冷材粒子100の比熱特性を支配的な影響を与える主相である。また、第2の領域10bは、例えば、蓄冷材粒子100の副相である。
 第1の領域10aは、例えば、蓄冷材粒子100のマトリックスである。また、第2の領域10bは、例えば、蓄冷材粒子100の製造時に形成される析出物である。
 図1に示すように、複数の第2の領域10bは、例えば、蓄冷材粒子100の内部に分散している。第2の領域10bのそれぞれは、例えば、第1の領域10aに囲まれる。
 図2に示すように、例えば、第1の領域10aは多結晶質である。第1の領域10aは複数の結晶粒(crystal grain)を含む。第2の領域10bは、例えば、第1の領域10aの粒界(grain boundary)に存在する。また、第2の領域10bは、例えば、第1の領域10aの結晶粒の中に存在する。
 蓄冷材粒子100の断面において、第2の領域10bの、蓄冷材粒子100の外縁までの最小距離(図1中のd)は、例えば、5μm以上である。複数の第2の領域10bの中の少なくとも一つの第2の領域10bの外縁までの最小距離(図1中のd)は、例えば、5μm以上である。
 第2の領域10bは、例えば、蓄冷材粒子100の中心部にも存在する。複数の第2の領域10bの中の少なくとも一つの第2の領域10bの外縁までの最小距離(図1中のd)は、例えば、蓄冷材粒子100の粒径の4分の1以上である。
 蓄冷材粒子100の断面における第2の領域10bの面積割合は、蓄冷材粒子100の断面における第1の領域10aの面積割合より小さい。蓄冷材粒子100の断面における第2の領域の面積割合は、例えば、0.01%以上15%以下である。
 第1の領域10aの面積割合及び第2の領域10bの面積割合は、例えば、走査電子顕微鏡(Scanning Electron Microscope:SEM)で蓄冷材粒子100の断面の反射電子像を観察することで判断できる。例えば、反射電子像の中で第1の領域10a又は第2の領域10bと特定される領域の占有面積を、画像処理ソフトウェアを用いて測定する。領域が第1の領域10a又は第2の領域10bであるか否かは、例えば、エネルギー分散型X線分光法により判定できる。
 第1の領域10aが多結晶質である場合、第1の領域10aの結晶粒の長径の平均値は、例えば、第2の領域10bの長径の平均値よりも大きい。第1の領域10aの結晶粒の長径の平均値は、例えば、第2の領域10bの長径の平均値の5倍以上100倍以下である。
 第1の領域10aの結晶粒の長径及び第2の領域10bの長径は、例えば、透過型電子顕微鏡(Transmission Electron Microscope:TEM)で蓄冷材粒子100の断面を観察することで測定できる。
 次に、第1の実施形態の蓄冷材粒子100の製造方法の一例について説明する。以下、第1の元素がホルミウム(Ho)、第2の元素がニッケル(Ni)、第3の元素が炭素(C)である場合を例に説明する。第1の実施形態の蓄冷材粒子100は、回転円盤法(RDP法)により製造される。
 最初に、HoNi合金、及び、ニッケルの炭化物であるNiCを準備する。次に、NiCを添加したHoNi合金を溶融し、溶湯をアルゴン雰囲気中で回転円盤上に滴下して急冷凝固する。溶湯の急冷凝固により、蓄冷材粒子が製造される。
 HoNi合金にNiCを添加することで、HoNiを含む第1の領域10aと炭素(C)を含む第2の領域10bを備えた蓄冷材粒子100が製造される。
 なお、例えば、酸素(O)を含む第2の領域10bを備えた蓄冷材粒子100を製造する場合には、HoNi合金に、ニッケルの酸化物であるNiOを添加すれば良い。また、HoNi合金にNiC及びNiOを加えることで、第2の領域10bに炭素(C)及び酸素(O)を含ませることが可能である。
 また、例えば、窒素(N)を含む第2の領域10bを備えた蓄冷材粒子100を製造する場合には、HoNi合金に、ニッケルの窒化物であるNiNを添加すれば良い。
 また、HoNiを含む第1の領域10aを形成する場合には、HoNi合金に代えてHoNi合金を用いれば良い。
 以上の製造方法により、第1の実施形態の蓄冷材粒子100が製造できる。
 極低温冷凍機は、複数の蓄冷材粒子を充填した蓄冷器を備える。例えば、蓄冷材粒子と、蓄冷器の中を通るヘリウムガスとの間で熱交換を行うことにより、寒冷を発生させる。極低温冷凍機の動作中の蓄冷材粒子の破壊を抑制するために、蓄冷材粒子には高い機械的強度を備えることが要求される。
 第1の実施形態の蓄冷材粒子100は、第2の領域10bを備えることで、例えば、第2の領域10bを備えない蓄冷材粒子と比較して、高い機械的強度を実現できる。
 図3は、蓄冷材粒子の比熱及び機械的強度を示す図である。横軸は蓄冷材粒子の断面における第2の領域10bの面積割合、左側の縦軸は蓄冷材粒子の体積比熱の最大値、右側の縦軸は蓄冷材粒子の機械的強度を示す。蓄冷材粒子の機械的強度は、第2の領域10bを含まない蓄冷材粒子の機械的強度を基準とする比率で示している。なお、図3中の黒三角の印は比熱、図3中の白丸の印は機械的強度を示す。
 蓄冷材粒子の体積比熱は、例えば、物理特性測定システム(Physical Property Measurement System:PPMS)を用いて測定可能である。また、蓄冷材粒子の機械的強度は、例えば、微小圧縮試験機を用いて測定可能である。
 図3の蓄冷材粒子の第1の領域10aはHoNiで構成され、第2の領域10bは炭素(O)及び酸素(O)を含む。図3の蓄冷材粒子は、例えば、10K以上15K以下の温度範囲で体積比熱の最大値を示す。図3には参考のため、鉛(Pb)の比熱を破線で示している。
 図3に示すように、蓄冷材粒子の第2の領域10bの面積割合が増加すると蓄冷材粒子の機械的強度が増加する。一方、蓄冷材粒子の第2の領域10bの面積割合が増加すると蓄冷材粒子の比熱は低下する。
 蓄冷材粒子100の断面における第2の領域10bの面積割合は、0.01%以上15%以下であることが好ましく、0.1%以上1%以下であることがより好ましい。上記下限値を充足することで、蓄冷材粒子100の機械的強度が更に向上する。また、上記上限値を充足することで、蓄冷材粒子100の比熱の低下を抑制できる。
 例えば、第2の領域10bの面積割合を15%以下とすることで、蓄冷材である鉛の比熱を上回ることができる。例えば、第2の領域10bの面積割合を15%以下とすることで、環境への影響が懸念される鉛の蓄冷材を代替することが可能となる。
 蓄冷材粒子100の機械的強度を増加させる観点から、第2の領域10bに含まれる第3の元素の原子濃度は、第1の領域10aに含まれる第3の原子濃度の10原子%以上であることが好ましく、20原子%以上であることが更に好ましい。
 蓄冷材粒子100の断面において、第2の領域10bの、蓄冷材粒子100の外縁までの最小距離(図1中のd)は5μm以上であり、3μm以上であることがより好ましく、2μm以上であることが更に好ましい。外縁部の近くまで第2の領域10bが存在することで、蓄冷材粒子100の中に全体的に第2の領域10bが存在することになる。そうなることで、さらに蓄冷材粒子100の機械的強度が向上する。複数の第2の領域10bの中の少なくとも一つの第2の領域10bの外縁までの最小距離(図1中のd)は、例えば、5μm以上であり、3μm以上であることがより好ましく、2μm以上であることが更に好ましい。蓄冷材粒子100の内部に第2の領域10bが存在することで、蓄冷材粒子100の機械的強度が向上する。蓄冷材粒子100の機械的強度を向上する観点から、蓄冷材粒子100の断面において、蓄冷材粒子100の外縁までの距離が5μmより大きい第2の領域10bが存在することが好ましく、蓄冷材粒子100の外縁までの距離が10μm以上の第2の領域10bが存在することがより好ましく、蓄冷材粒子100の外縁までの距離が20μm以上の第2の領域10bが存在することが更に好ましい。
 蓄冷材粒子100の25K以下の温度範囲における体積比熱の最大値は、0.3J/(cm・K)以上であることが好ましく、0.38J/(cm・K)以上であることがより好ましく、0.4J/(cm・K)以上であることが更に好ましい。
 蓄冷材粒子の破壊を抑制する観点から、蓄冷材粒子は球状であることが好ましい。言い換えれば、蓄冷材粒子100の円形度Rが大きいことが好ましく、円形度Rが1に近いことが好ましい。蓄冷材粒子100の円形度Rは、0.5より大きいことが好ましく、0.7以上であることがより好ましく、0.9以上であることが更に好ましい。
 第1の実施形態の蓄冷材粒子100を、複数個集め蓄冷材粒子群を構成することができる。例えば、第1の実施形態の蓄冷材粒子100を個数割合で90%以上含む蓄冷材粒子群を構成することができる。
 以上、第1の実施形態によれば、高い機械的強度を備えた蓄冷材粒子を提供できる。
(第2の実施形態)
 第2の実施形態の蓄冷材は、第1の領域及び第2の領域と化学組成が異なり、断面における面積割合が第1の領域より小さく、第1の領域と同じ第1の元素及び第2の元素を含む第3の領域を、更に含む点で、第1の実施形態の蓄冷材粒子と異なる。以下、第1の実施形態と重複する内容については、一部記述を省略する場合がある。
 図4は、第2の実施形態の蓄冷材粒子の模式断面図である。図5は、第2の実施形態の蓄冷材粒子の拡大模式断面図である。図5は、図4に示される断面の一部の拡大模式断面図である。第2の実施形態の蓄冷材粒子200は、希土類元素及び金属を含む磁性蓄冷材粒子である。
 第2の実施形態の蓄冷材粒子200は、第1の領域10a、第2の領域10b、及び第3の領域10cを含む。第2の実施形態の蓄冷材粒子200は、例えば、複数の第2の領域10b、及び、複数の第3の領域10cを含む。
 第3の領域10cは、第1の領域10a及び第2の領域10bと化学組成が異なる。第3の領域10cは、第1の領域10aに含まれるのと同じ第1の元素、及び、第1の領域10aに含まれるのと同じ第2の元素を含む。
 例えば、第1の領域10aが第1の元素と第2の元素を含む第1の化合物を含む場合、第3の領域10cは、同じ第1の元素と同じ第2の元素を含む化合物であって、第1の化合物と異なる化学組成の第2の化合物を含む。例えば、第1の領域10aが第1の元素と第2の元素の第1の化合物で構成される場合、第3の領域10cは、同じ第1の元素と同じ第2の元素の化合物であって、第1の化合物と異なる化学組成の第2の化合物で構成される。
 第1の領域10aが、例えば、ホルミウム(Ho)及びニッケル(Ni)を含む場合、第3の領域10cもホルミウム(Ho)及びニッケル(Ni)を含む。第1の領域10aが、例えば、ホルミウム(Ho)とニッケル(Ni)の化合物を含む場合、第3の領域10cもホルミウム(Ho)とニッケル(Ni)の化合物を含む。

 第3の領域10cは第3の元素を含むか、又は、含まない。第2の領域10bに含まれる第3の元素の原子濃度は、第3の領域10cに含まれる第3の元素の原子濃度よりも高い。第2の領域10bに含まれる第3の元素の原子濃度は、第3の領域10cに含まれる第3の元素の原子濃度よりも、例えば、10原子%以上高い。第2の領域10bに含まれる第3の元素の原子濃度と、第3の領域10cに含まれる第3の元素の原子濃度の差は、例えば、10原子%以上50原子%以下である。
 第1の領域10aは、例えば、蓄冷材粒子100の比熱特性に支配的な影響を与える主相である。また、第2の領域10b及び第3の領域10cは、例えば、蓄冷材粒子100の比熱特性に支配的な影響を与えない副相である。
 第1の領域10aは、例えば、蓄冷材粒子100のマトリックスである。また、第2の領域10bは、例えば、蓄冷材粒子100の製造時に形成される析出物である。また、第3の領域10cは、例えば、蓄冷材粒子100の製造時に形成される結晶相である。
 図4に示すように、複数の第2の領域10b及び複数の第3の領域10cは、例えば、蓄冷材粒子100の内部に分散している。複数の第2の領域10bのそれぞれ、及び、複数の第3の領域10cのそれぞれは、例えば、第1の領域10aに囲まれる。
 図5に示すように、例えば、第1の領域10aは多結晶質である。第1の領域10aは複数の結晶粒(crystal grain)を含む。第2の領域10bは、例えば、第1の領域10aの粒界(grain boundary)に存在する。また、第2の領域10bは、例えば、第1の領域10aの結晶粒の中に存在する。第3の領域10cは、例えば、第1の領域10aの粒界(grain boundary)に存在する。また、第3の領域10cは、例えば、第1の領域10aの結晶粒の中に存在する。
 蓄冷材粒子100の断面における第3の領域10cの面積割合は、蓄冷材粒子100の断面における第1の領域10aの面積割合より小さい。蓄冷材粒子100の断面における第3の領域の面積割合は、例えば、0.01%以上30%以下である。
 第1の領域10aが多結晶質である場合、第1の領域10aの結晶粒の長径の平均値は、例えば、第3の領域10cの結晶粒の長径の平均値よりも大きい。
 以上、第2の実施形態によれば、高い機械的強度を備えた蓄冷材粒子を提供できる。
(第3の実施形態)
 第3の実施形態の蓄冷器は、第1又は第2の実施形態の蓄冷材粒子が複数個、充填された蓄冷器である。第3の実施形態の蓄冷器は、例えば、充填された複数の第1又は第2の実施形態の蓄冷材粒子の、投影像の周囲長さをLとし、投影像の実面積をAとしたとき、4πA/Lで表される円形度Rが0.5以下の蓄冷材粒子の比率が5%以下である。
 円形度Rは、光学顕微鏡を用いて得られる画像中の複数の蓄冷材粒子の形状を画像処理することで、求めることができる。円形度Rが0.5以下の蓄冷材粒子は、例えば、表面に凹凸が存在する。
 例えば、表面に凹凸が存在する蓄冷材粒子を、5%を超えて含む複数の蓄冷材粒子が蓄冷器に充填されると、蓄冷器の中の空隙率が不均一となったり、充填性が不安定な状態となったりする。このため、例えば、作動媒質が流入した際、蓄冷器の蓄冷性能が低下する。
 また、例えば、表面に凹凸が存在する蓄冷材粒子を、5%を超えて含む複数の蓄冷材粒子が蓄冷器に充填されると、冷凍機の作動時に蓄冷材粒子にかかる応力によって蓄冷材粒子が破壊する。蓄冷材粒子が破壊すると、微粒子が発生する。発生した微粒子により、例えば、蓄冷器の中の空隙が詰まる。蓄冷器の中の空隙が詰まると、冷凍機の冷凍性能や、長期信頼性が低下する。
 したがって、蓄冷器に充填される円形度Rが0.5以下の蓄冷材粒子は、2%以下であることが好ましく、0%であることがより好ましい。
 以上、第3の実施形態によれば、優れた特性を備えた蓄冷材粒子を用いることにより、優れた特性の蓄冷器が実現できる。
(第4の実施形態)
 第4の実施形態の冷凍機は、第1又は第2の実施形態の蓄冷材粒子が複数個、充填された第3の実施形態の蓄冷器を備える冷凍機である。以下、第1の実施形態、第2の実施形態、又は第3の実施形態と重複する内容については、一部記述を省略する。
 図6は、第4の実施形態の冷凍機の要部構成を示す模式断面図である。図6は、第4の実施形態の冷凍機の一例であるGM冷凍機の要部構成を示す模式断面図である。第4の実施形態の冷凍機の一例であるGM冷凍機は、第1又は第2の実施形態の蓄冷材粒子が複数個充填された、第3の実施形態の蓄冷器を備える。
 第4の実施形態の冷凍機は、超電導機器などの冷却に用いられる2段式の蓄冷型極低温冷凍機300である。冷凍機は、例えば、スターリング方式の冷凍機、又はパルスチューブ方式などの冷凍機であっても構わない。
 蓄冷型極低温冷凍機300(冷凍機)は、第1シリンダ111、第2シリンダ112、真空容器113、第1蓄冷器114、第2蓄冷器115(蓄冷器)、第1シールリング116、第2シールリング117、第1蓄冷材118、第2蓄冷材119(蓄冷材粒子)、第1膨張室120、第2膨張室121、第1冷却ステージ122、第2冷却ステージ123、及びコンプレッサ124を備える。
 蓄冷型極低温冷凍機300は、大径の第1シリンダ111と、第1シリンダ111と同軸的に接続された小径の第2シリンダ112とが設けられた真空容器113を含む。第1シリンダ111には第1蓄冷器114が往復運動自在に配置されている。第2シリンダ112には、蓄冷器の一例である第2蓄冷器115が往復運動自在に配置されている。
 第1シリンダ111と第1蓄冷器114との間には、第1シールリング116が配置されている。第2シリンダ112と第2蓄冷器115との間には、第2シールリング117が配置されている。
 第1蓄冷器114には、Cuメッシュなどの第1蓄冷材118が充填されている。第2蓄冷器115には、第1又は第2の実施形態の蓄冷材粒子が、複数個、第2蓄冷材119として充填されている。
 第2蓄冷器115は、金属メッシュ材で区分けされ、複数の蓄冷材充填層を備えていても良い。第2蓄冷器115を複数の充填層に分ける場合、少なくとも一つの充填層に複数個の第1又は第2の実施形態の蓄冷材粒子からなる蓄冷材粒子群を充填する。そして、例えば、希土類酸化物蓄冷材粒子群、希土類酸硫化物蓄冷材粒子群、鉛蓄冷材粒子群、ビスマス蓄冷材粒子群、スズ蓄冷材粒子群、ホルミウムニッケル蓄冷材粒子群、ホルミウム銅蓄冷材粒子群、エルビウムニッケル蓄冷材粒子群、エルビウムコバルト蓄冷材粒子群、及びガドリニウムアルミニウム酸化物蓄冷材粒子群から選ばれる少なくとも1種の蓄冷材粒子群と組み合わせる。
 蓄冷材の組合せは、比熱のピーク温度が高い方を第一の蓄冷材粒子群とし、比熱のピーク温度が低い方を第二の蓄冷材粒子群とし、比熱のピーク温度が順次低くなるように組み合わせていくものとする。
 第1蓄冷器114及び第2蓄冷器115は、第1蓄冷材118や第2蓄冷材119の間隙などに設けられた作動媒質の通路をそれぞれ有している。作動媒質は、ヘリウムガスである。
 第1蓄冷器114と第2蓄冷器115との間には、第1膨張室120が設けられている。また、第2蓄冷器115と第2シリンダ112の先端壁との間には、第2膨張室121が設けられている。そして、第1膨張室120の底部に第1冷却ステージ122が設けられている。また、第2膨張室121の底部に第1冷却ステージ122より低温の第2冷却ステージ123が形成されている。
 上述した2段式の蓄冷型極低温冷凍機300には、コンプレッサ124から高圧の作動媒質が供給される。供給された作動媒質は、第1蓄冷器114に充填された第1蓄冷材118の間を通過して第1膨張室120に到達する。そして、第2蓄冷器115に充填された第2蓄冷材119間を通過して第2膨張室121に到達する。
 この際に、作動媒質は第1蓄冷材118及び第2蓄冷材119に熱エネルギーを供給して冷却される。第1蓄冷材118及び第2蓄冷材119の間を通過した作動媒質は、第1膨張室120及び第2膨張室121で膨張して寒冷を発生させる。そして、第1冷却ステージ122及び第2冷却ステージ123が冷却される。
 膨張した作動媒質は、第1蓄冷材118及び第2蓄冷材119の間を反対方向に流れる。作動媒質は第1蓄冷材118及び第2蓄冷材119から熱エネルギーを受け取った後に排出される。こうした過程で復熱効果が良好になるに従って作動媒質サイクルの熱効率が向上し、より一層低い温度が実現されるように蓄冷型極低温冷凍機300は構成されている。
 第4の実施形態の蓄冷型極低温冷凍機300が備える蓄冷器は、第2蓄冷器115に第2蓄冷材119として、第1又は第2の実施形態の蓄冷材粒子を、複数個、充填する。第2蓄冷材119の少なくとも一部が、第1又は第2の実施形態の蓄冷材粒子である。
 第1又は第2の実施形態の複数個の蓄冷材粒子は、蓄冷材粒子のそれぞれの投影像の周囲長をLとし、上記投影像の実面積をAとしたとき、4πA/Lで表される円形度Rが0.5以下の蓄冷材粒子が5%以下であることが好ましい。
 例えば、第4の実施形態の蓄冷型極低温冷凍機300を、磁気浮上列車に利用することにより、磁気浮上列車の長期信頼性を向上させることができる。
 以上、第4の実施形態によれば、優れた特性を備えた蓄冷材粒子を用いることにより、優れた特性の冷凍機が実現できる。
(第5の実施形態)
 第5の実施形態のクライオポンプは、第4の実施形態の冷凍機を備える。以下、第4の実施形態と重複する内容については、一部記述を省略する。
 図7は、第5の実施形態のクライオポンプの概略構成を示す断面図である。第5の実施形態のクライオポンプは、第4の実施形態の蓄冷型極低温冷凍機300を備えるクライオポンプ500である。
 クライオポンプ500は、気体分子を凝縮又は吸着するクライオパネル501、クライオパネル501を所定の極低温に冷却する蓄冷型極低温冷凍機300、クライオパネル501と蓄冷型極低温冷凍機300の間に設けられたシールド503、吸気口に設けられたバッフル504、及び、アルゴン、窒素、水素等の排気速度を変化させるリング505を備える。
 第5の実施形態によれば、優れた特性の冷凍機を用いることで優れた特性のクライオポンプが実現できる。
(第6の実施形態)
 第6の実施形態の超電導磁石は、第4の実施形態の冷凍機を備える。以下、第4の実施形態と重複する内容については、一部記述を省略する。
 図8は、第6の実施形態の超電導磁石の概略構成を示す斜視図である。第6の実施形態の超電導磁石は、第4の実施形態の蓄冷型極低温冷凍機300を備える磁気浮上列車用超電導磁石600である。
 磁気浮上列車用超電導磁石600は、超電導コイル601、この超電導コイル601を冷却するための液体ヘリウムタンク602、液体ヘリウムの揮散を防ぐ液体窒素タンク603、積層断熱材605、パワーリード606、永久電流スイッチ607、及び、蓄冷型極低温冷凍機300を備える。
 第6の実施形態によれば、優れた特性の冷凍機を用いることで優れた特性の超電導磁石が実現できる。
(第7の実施形態)
 第7の実施形態の核磁気共鳴イメージング装置は、第4の実施形態の冷凍機を備える。以下、第4の実施形態と重複する内容については、一部記述を省略する。
 図9は、第7の実施形態の核磁気共鳴イメージング装置の概略構成を示す断面図である。第7の実施形態の核磁気共鳴イメージング(MRI)装置は、第4の実施形態の蓄冷型極低温冷凍機300を備える核磁気共鳴イメージング装置700である。
 核磁気共鳴イメージング装置700は、人体に対して空間的に均一で時間的に安定な静磁界を印加する超電導静磁界コイル701、発生磁界の不均一性を補正する図示を省略した補正コイル、測定領域に磁界勾配を与える傾斜磁界コイル702、ラジオ波送受信用プローブ703、クライオスタット705、及び、放射断熱シールド706を備える。そして、超電導静磁界コイル701の冷却用として、蓄冷型極低温冷凍機300が用いられている。
 第7の実施形態によれば、優れた特性の冷凍機を用いることで優れた特性の核磁気共鳴イメージング装置が実現できる。
(第8の実施形態)
 第8の実施形態の核磁気共鳴装置は、第4の実施形態の冷凍機を備える。以下、第4の実施形態と重複する内容については、一部記述を省略する。
 図10は、第8の実施形態の核磁気共鳴装置の概略構成を示す断面図である。第8の実施形態の核磁気共鳴(NMR)装置は、第4の実施形態の蓄冷型極低温冷凍機300を備える核磁気共鳴装置800である。
 核磁気共鳴装置800は、サンプル管801に入れられた有機物等のサンプルに磁界を印加する超電導静磁界コイル802、磁場中のサンプル管801にラジオ波を印加する高周波発振器803、サンプル管801の周りの図示しないコイルに発生する誘導電流を増幅する増幅器804を備える。また、超電導静磁界コイル802を冷却する蓄冷型極低温冷凍機300を備える。
 第8の実施形態によれば、優れた特性の冷凍機を用いることで優れた特性の核磁気共鳴装置が実現できる。
(第9の実施形態)
 第9の実施形態の磁界印加式単結晶引上げ装置は、第4の実施形態の冷凍機を備える。以下、第4の実施形態と重複する内容については、一部記述を省略する。
 図11は、第9の実施形態の磁界印加式単結晶引上げ装置の概略構成を示す斜視図である。第9の実施形態の磁界印加式単結晶引上げ装置は、第4の実施形態の蓄冷型極低温冷凍機300を備える磁界印加式単結晶引上げ装置900である。
 磁界印加式単結晶引上げ装置900は、原料溶融用るつぼ、ヒータ、単結晶引上げ機構等を有する単結晶引上げ部901、原料融液に対して静磁界を印加する超電導コイル902、単結晶引上げ部901の昇降機構903、電流リード905、熱シールド板906、及び、ヘリウム容器907を備える。そして、超電導コイル902の冷却用として、蓄冷型極低温冷凍機300が用いられている。
 第9の実施形態によれば、優れた特性の冷凍機を用いることで優れた特性の磁界印加式単結晶引上げ装置が実現できる。
(第10の実施形態)
 第10の実施形態のヘリウム再凝縮装置は、第4の実施形態の冷凍機を備える。以下、第4の実施形態と重複する内容については、一部記述を省略する。
 図12は、第10の実施形態のヘリウム再凝縮装置の概略構成を示す模式図である。第10の実施形態のヘリウム再凝縮装置は、第4の実施形態の蓄冷型極低温冷凍機300を備えるヘリウム再凝縮装置1000である。
 ヘリウム再凝縮装置1000は、蓄冷型極低温冷凍機300、蒸発配管1001、及び液化配管1002を備える。
 ヘリウム再凝縮装置1000は、液体ヘリウム装置から蒸発するヘリウムガスを再凝縮して、液体ヘリウムとすることができる。液体ヘリウム装置は、例えば、超電導磁石、核磁気共鳴(NMR)装置、核磁気共鳴イメージング(MRI)装置、物理特性測定システム(PPMS)、又は磁気特性測定システムである。
 図示しない液体ヘリウム装置から、蒸発配管1001を通ってヘリウムガスがヘリウム再凝縮装置1000に導入される。ヘリウムガスは、蓄冷型極低温冷凍機300により、ヘリウムの液化温度以下の4Kへ冷却される。凝縮液化した液体ヘリウムが、液化配管1002を通って、液体ヘリウム装置に戻る。
 第10の実施形態によれば、優れた特性の冷凍機を用いることで優れた特性のヘリウム再凝縮装置が実現できる。
 以下、実施形態の実施例、比較例、及び、それらの評価結果について説明する。
(実施例1)
 HoNi合金、及び、ニッケルの炭化物であるNiCを準備した。次に、NiCを添加したHoNi合金を約1500℃で溶融した。次に溶湯を、約101kPaの圧力のアルゴン雰囲気で回転円盤上に滴下して急冷凝固させ、実施例1の蓄冷材粒子を製造した。
 実施例1の蓄冷材粒子において、第1の元素はホルミウム(Ho)、第2の元素はニッケル(Ni)、第3の元素は炭素(C)である。
 製造した蓄冷材粒子について、蓄冷材粒子の断面の走査電子顕微鏡の反射電子像を観察した。化学組成の異なる第1の領域と第2の領域が観察された。第2の領域は蓄冷材粒子の内部に分散されていた。第2の領域の蓄冷材粒子の外縁までの最小距離は5μm以上であった。
 第1の領域及び第2の領域に含まれる元素及び元素濃度をエネルギー分散型X線分光法により測定した。
 走査電子顕微鏡の反射電子像から、第1の領域及び第2の領域の面積割合を測定した。面積割合は、画像処理ソフトウェアImageJを用いて測定した。
 製造した蓄冷材粒子を、粉末X線回折法で測定し、第1の領域の結晶相を同定した。
 製造した蓄冷材粒子について、機械的強度を測定した。機械的強度は、微小圧縮試験機を用いて測定した。
 製造した蓄冷材粒子について、25K以下での体積比熱の最大値を測定した。測定は物理特性測定システム(Physical Property Measurement System:PPMS)を用いて行った。
 上記測定の結果を表1に示す。表1では、第1の領域の化学組成の欄は、存在が確認された結晶相の化学組成を表示している。また、表1では、第2の領域の化学組成は、存在が確認された元素を表示している。
 また、表1には、第1の領域と第2の領域の、第3の元素の原子濃度差を表示している。第3の元素の原子濃度差として、第2の領域の第3の元素の原子濃度から第1の領域の第3の元素の原子濃度を差し引いた値を示している。
 また、表1において、機械的強度の比率は、第1の領域が同一の化学組成で、第3の領域を含まない蓄冷材粒子の機械的強度を基準としている。
(実施例2~6)
 HoNi合金に添加するNiCの量を変化させた以外は、実施例1と同様の方法で蓄冷材粒子を製造した。実施例1と同様の測定を行った。結果を表1に示す。
(実施例7)
 HoNi合金に、NiCに代えて、ニッケルの酸化物であるNiOを添加した以外は、実施例1と同様の方法で蓄冷材粒子を製造した。実施例1と同様の測定を行った。結果を表1に示す。
(実施例8)
 HoNi合金に、NiC及びNiOを添加した以外は、実施例1と同様の方法で蓄冷材粒子を製造した。実施例1と同様の測定を行った。結果を表1に示す。
(実施例9)
 HoNi合金に、NiCに代えて、ニッケルの窒化物であるNiNを添加した以外は、実施例1と同様の方法で蓄冷材粒子を製造した。実施例1と同様の測定を行った。結果を表1に示す。
(実施例10)
 HoNi合金に代えて、HoNi合金を用いた以外は、実施例1と同様の方法で蓄冷材粒子を製造した。実施例1と同様の測定を行った。結果を表1に示す。
(実施例11)
 HoNi合金にHoNi合金を添加した以外は、実施例1と同様の方法で蓄冷材粒子を製造した。実施例1と同様の測定を行った。結果を表1に示す。
(実施例12)
 HoNi合金に代えて、HoCu合金を用いた以外は、実施例1と同様の方法で蓄冷材粒子を製造した。実施例1と同様の測定を行った。結果を表1に示す。
(実施例13)
 HoNi合金に代えて、ErNi合金を用いた以外は、実施例1と同様の方法で蓄冷材粒子を製造した。実施例1と同様の測定を行った。結果を表1に示す。
(比較例1)
 HoNi合金にNiCを添加しない以外は、実施例1と同様の方法で蓄冷材粒子を製造した。実施例1と同様の測定を行った。結果を表1に示す。
(比較例2)
 HoNi合金にNiCを添加しない以外は、実施例10と同様の方法で蓄冷材粒子を製造した。実施例1と同様の測定を行った。結果を表1に示す。
(比較例3)
 HoCu合金にNiCを添加しない以外は、実施例12と同様の方法で蓄冷材粒子を製造した。実施例1と同様の測定を行った。結果を表1に示す。
(比較例3)
 ErNi合金にNiCを添加しない以外は、実施例13と同様の方法で蓄冷材粒子を製造した。実施例1と同様の測定を行った。結果を表1に示す。

 

 
 表1から明らかなように、HoNi蓄冷材粒子は、第2の領域を備えることで、第2の領域を備えない場合と比較して、機械的強度が向上する。実施例3と比較例1から、第2の領域の面積割合が0.01%以上であると強度が向上することが分かる。実施例3と比較例4から、第2の領域の面積割合が0.1%以上であると強度がさらに向上することが分かる。これは、第2の領域は第1の領域に比べて第3の元素の原子を10原子%以上含むことで、粒自体の強度が向上するためと考えられる。
 また、実施例1、5および6から、第2の領域の面積割合が1%を超えると比熱が低下し、15%を超えると比熱がさらに低下する。以上より、第2の領域の面積割合が0.01%以上15%以下であることが好ましく、0.1%以上1%以下であることがより好ましいことが分かる。第2の領域が存在することで強度が向上するが、第2の領域は比熱に寄与しないため、その量が増えると比熱が低下すると考えられる。
 また、実施例1から6と比較例1から、第2の領域の面積割合を増やすことで、第2の領域と蓄冷材粒子の外縁までの最小距離を短くすることができる。その距離は短くなるほど強度が増すが、2μmより短いと第2の領域の面積割合が増えすぎ、比熱は鉛より小さくなることが分かる。
 実施例10、12、13と比較例2、3、4からHoNi以外にも、HoNi、HoCu、ErNiなどの蓄冷材も、蓄冷材粒子の外縁までの最小距離が5μm以上の第2の領域を含むことで、強度が向上している。

  1.  イットリウム(Y)、ランタン(La)、セリウム(Ce)、プラセオジム(Pr)、ネオジム(Nd)、プロメチウム(Pm)、サマリウム(Sm)、ユウロピウム(Eu)、ガドリニウム(Gd)、テルビウム(Tb)、ジスプロシウム(Dy)、ホルミウム(Ho)、エルビウム(Er)、ツリウム(Tm)、及びイッテルビウム(Yb)からなる群から選ばれる少なくとも一つの第1の元素と、ニッケル(Ni)、コバルト(Co)、銅(Cu)、銀(Ag)、ガリウム(Ga)、ビスマス(Bi)、シリコン(Si)、アルミニウム(Al)、及びルテニウム(Ru)からなる群から選ばれる少なくとも一つの第2の元素と、を含む第1の領域と、
     前記第1の領域と化学組成が異なり、断面における面積割合が前記第1の領域より小さく、前記断面における粒子の外縁までの最小距離が5μm以上であり、炭素(C)、酸素(O)、及び窒素(N)からなる群から選ばれる少なくとも一つの第3の元素を含む第2の領域と、を備える、蓄冷材粒子。
  2.  前記第2の領域は、前記少なくとも一つの第1の元素及び前記少なくとも一つの第2の元素を含む、請求項1記載の蓄冷材粒子。
  3.  前記第1の領域は前記少なくとも一つの第3の元素を含むか、又は、含まず、
     前記第2の領域に含まれる前記少なくとも一つの第3の元素の原子濃度は、前記第1の領域に含まれる前記少なくとも一つの第3の元素の原子濃度よりも高い、請求項1記載の蓄冷材粒子。
  4.  前記第2の領域に含まれる前記少なくとも一つの第3の元素の原子濃度は、前記第1の領域に含まれる前記少なくとも一つの第3の元素の原子濃度よりも10原子%以上高い、請求項3記載の蓄冷材粒子。
  5.  前記断面における前記第2の領域の面積割合は、0.01%以上15%以下である、請求項1記載の蓄冷材粒子。
  6.  前記少なくとも一つの第3の元素は、炭素(O)及び酸素(O)である、請求項1記載の蓄冷材粒子。
  7.  前記第1の領域及び前記第2の領域と化学組成が異なり、前記断面における面積割合が前記第1の領域より小さく、前記少なくとも一つの第1の元素及び前記少なくとも一つの第2の元素を含む第3の領域を、更に備える、請求項1記載の蓄冷材粒子。
  8.  前記第1の領域は多結晶質であり、前記第1の領域の結晶粒の長径の平均値は、前記第2の領域の長径の平均値よりも大きい、請求項1記載の蓄冷材粒子。
  9.  粒径が50μm以上3mm以下である、請求項1記載の蓄冷材粒子。
  10.  25K以下の温度範囲における体積比熱の最大値が0.3J/(cm・K)以上である、請求項1記載の蓄冷材粒子。
  11.  前記少なくとも一つの第1の元素はホルミウム(Ho)であり、前記少なくとも一つの第2の元素はニッケル(Ni)である、請求項1記載の蓄冷材粒子。
  12.  請求項1記載の蓄冷材粒子を90%以上含む、蓄冷材粒子群。      
  13.  請求項1記載の蓄冷材粒子が複数個、充填された、蓄冷器。
  14.  請求項13記載の蓄冷器を備えた、冷凍機。
  15.  請求項14記載の冷凍機を備えた、クライオポンプ。
  16.  請求項14記載の冷凍機を備えた、超電導磁石。
  17.  請求項14記載の冷凍機を備えた、核磁気共鳴イメージング装置。
  18.  請求項14記載の冷凍機を備えた、核磁気共鳴装置。
  19.  請求項14記載の冷凍機を備えた、磁界印加式単結晶引上げ装置。
  20.  請求項14記載の冷凍機を備えた、ヘリウム再凝縮装置。
