Definitions
- the present invention relates to a lighting device for a vehicle according to the preamble of claim 1 .
- a lighting device of the aforementioned type is known from DE 10 2019 128 342 A1.
- the lighting device described therein is designed as a signal light, for example in the front area of the vehicle.
- One of the embodiments described in DE 10 2019 128 342 A1 comprises a lighting module surrounded by a housing, which comprises two light sources designed as light-emitting diodes and a light guide into which the light from the light-emitting diodes is coupled.
- the lighting module also has a lighting surface that is designed as a cover plate of the housing.
- An LC display is arranged between the light guide and the cover plate, through which the light coupled out of the light guide passes before it strikes the luminous plate in order to block out parts of the light in a targeted manner.
- the LC display is designed as an active LC display with two polarizers.
- the design of the LC display as an active LC display proves to be disadvantageous, because due to the active components of the LC display and due to the polarizers, high light losses occur when the light passes through the LC display. Furthermore, the integration of the LC display in the housing of the light module is disadvantageous because this makes the construction of the light module more complicated and expensive.
- Design has always been an important aspect of a vehicle's signaling functions, such as tail lights, brake lights, direction indicators or daytime running lights, rear lights or headlights.
- the importance of design for signaling functions has become even greater with the introduction of LED technology, because the small light-emitting diodes, which are often used in large numbers, are much more flexible than a individual large incandescent lamps can be used as illuminants for a signaling function.
- light-emitting diodes offer a wide variety of design options in connection with the selected optical system.
- a modification of LED technology can be found in the form of organic light-emitting diodes or OLED technology, in which the illuminant is not small as a point like a light-emitting diode, but rather can be made flat and larger.
- a luminous surface can be formed that is illuminated extremely homogeneously.
- a disadvantage of OLED technology compared to LED technology is that the costs of OLEDs are very high due to very complex manufacturing processes. These high costs are also caused in particular by the different shapes desired by the design and the small number of pieces. Furthermore, the special, high requirements in the automotive sector, such as with regard to the temperature range from -40°C to +85°C or +100°C, UV exposure and the effects of force from vibrations, impacts and shaking, are for an OLED are more critical than for a standard light-emitting diode.
- the problem on which the present invention is based is therefore the creation of a lighting device of the type mentioned at the outset, which enables the switchable segmentation of an illuminated area with simple means and/or inexpensively.
- the LC display is arranged at least partially in front of the luminous surface in such a way that during operation of the lighting device at least part of the light emerging from the luminous surface enters an entry surface of the LC display and from an exit surface of the LC display exits, the lighting device being set up so that the LC display is controlled in order to selectively allow parts of the light striking the entry surface to pass through the LC display and other parts of the light striking the entry surface not to pass through the LC display .
- the lighting device can be designed in a simpler and more cost-effective manner.
- the lighting module is a separate lighting module, with the LC display being detachably attachable or attached to the lighting module, or with the LC display being positionable or positioned at a distance in front of the light module.
- prefabricated lighting modules can be used, which are used in large numbers in the automotive industry and are therefore inexpensive.
- the LC display can be a passive LC display.
- Small areas are usually used for an automotive lighting function, from which a high light output or high brightness must be achieved. Therefore, a high transmittance of the LC display is important in order to generate the legally required light intensities of a signal function.
- a passive LC display In contrast to an active LC display, a passive LC display has no active components such as transistors, so that the transmittance of the passive LC display is significantly greater than that of an active LC display. Furthermore, a passive LC display can be produced much more cost-effectively than an active LC display.
- the LC display can be a guest-host display or a smart glass display.
- no polarization filters are required, so that a higher degree of transmission is available, which is advantageous liable and decisive for the fulfillment of a light function in a small light element.
- the LC display is also independent of the viewing angle due to the lack of polarizers.
- the LC display is an LC display doped with color pigments.
- the LC display can be a so-called dye-doped display, which is doped with color pigments that determine the color of the LC display when it is not in operation.
- a black area can be visible, but also a red or blue area or an area in a desired other color.
- the LC display can have a plurality of segments which can be controlled independently of one another.
- the segments of the LC display that can be controlled independently of one another can differ from one another in terms of their size and/or in terms of their shape.
- the separately switchable pixels of the LC display can be given any desired shape and size and thus actively define the desired design of a switchable matrix for the light function.
- triangular, diamond-shaped, square or any other shaped pixel can be specified and implemented, or also special graphic elements such as letters, pictograms or logos.
- passive LC displays in contrast to active LC displays with very small pixelization for high resolutions, passive LC displays, in particular passive LC displays for automotive applications, generally have larger pixel areas.
- the LC display is only arranged in front of a section of the luminous area, so that during operation of the lighting device only parts of the light emanating from the luminous area enter the entry area of the LC display, whereas other parts of the light emanating from the luminous area light spread past the LC display.
- a partial area of the luminous surface of the luminous module can always emit light freely and thus provides an unaffected light emission, but at the same time the sub-area with the display cover can be used to switch and illuminate different signatures.
- the luminous surface of the luminous module can have a vehicle-specific contour and shape for a desired appearance.
- the upstream LC display can take up the shape of the lighting surface of the lighting module and be shaped exactly the same or also deliberately deviate from the shape of the lighting surface of the lighting module, for example by only partially covering the lighting surface of the lighting module in order to achieve a functional design for a lighting function guarantee.
- the lighting device prefferably be set up to fulfill a signaling function, in particular the function of a tail light or a tail brake light or a tail turn signal light or a position daytime running light or a position turn signal light.
- the lighting device can comprise a number of light modules and a number of LC displays, with at least one of the LC displays being assigned to one of the light modules in such a way that during operation of the lighting device at least part of the light emerging from the light-emitting surface enters the entry surface of the assigned LC displays occurs.
- the light modules then form a common signal function together with the LC displays.
- the light modules can be switched on and off individually or change the brightness when switching on and off along a dimming curve. Different light signatures can be shown together with the LC displays.
- Examples of this in different driving situations are a tail light when ferrying, a tail light when stationary or in a traffic jam to reduce the brightness and glare of the driver behind, a parking light with a greatly reduced number of pixels or, for example, only an outer light module particularly with a reduced number of pixels, a brake light when driving, a brake light when stationary, emergency braking, a conventional flashing light, a wiping flashing light or a hazard warning flasher.
- tail light when driving in the city which is operated with reduced luminance in particular, a tail light when driving on a country road or a motorway, which is operated with higher luminance, a greeting and farewell animation (welcome/goodbye) , a display of information such as the charge level of an electric vehicle's battery, in which numbers are displayed as percentages, personalization and customization such as the display of names that can be provided by software for control, or hazard warnings, for example in the event of a traffic jam indicate the formation of a rescue lane.
- the at least one light source of the lighting module can be in the form of a light-emitting diode, with several light-emitting diodes being provided in particular. At least two of the light-emitting diodes can generate light with different colors when the lighting device is in operation. An attractive design can thus be produced for the signaling function of the lighting device using simple means.
- the light modules can be designed with a variable LED assembly in all colors, such as red, yellow, white, blue, cyan or the like. If a blue color is used, the light modules are also suitable for the execution and design of beacons for police vehicles. Two-color variants are also possible with a corresponding LED assembly, such as red-yellow, yellow-white or white-cyan.
- the lighting module includes a light guide that directs the light emanating from the light source to the lighting surface.
- the lighting module comprises a scattering structure, in particular at least one diffusing disk, preferably with the scattering structure scattering the light moving through the light guide during operation of the lighting device in such a way that the lighting surface is illuminated homogeneously, in particular with a sufficient focusing of the light in the forward direction is achieved.

Description
Beleuchtungsvorrichtung für ein Fahrzeug
Beschreibung
