- An object of the present invention is to provide a separator having improved heat resistance and mechanical strength, and at the same time, excellent wettability to an organic electrolyte.
- the composite coating layer is provided with a separator comprising heat-resistant inorganic particles and a hydrophilic organic compound.
- the secondary battery including the separator according to one aspect has excellent life characteristics and high rate characteristics by excellent heat resistance and mechanical strength of the separator and impregnation into an electrolyte.
- FIG. 1 is a flow chart showing a method of manufacturing a separator according to an embodiment of the present invention.
- Example 3 is a graph showing the heat shrinkage of the separators manufactured in Example 1 and Comparative Examples 1 to 3;
- Example 4 is a diagram showing the wettability of the separators manufactured in Example 1 and Comparative Examples 1 to 3;
- FIG. 6 is a schematic diagram showing the structure of a lithium secondary battery according to an embodiment.
- lithium battery 2 negative electrode
- the "composite coating layer” refers to a layer or region formed by physically mixing different materials or chemically forming a bond.
- an electrode for a secondary battery a lithium secondary battery including the same, and a method of manufacturing the electrode for a secondary battery according to exemplary embodiments will be described in more detail.
- a separator includes a web structure of organic fibers; And a composite coating layer disposed on the organic fiber, wherein the composite coating layer includes heat-resistant inorganic particles and a hydrophilic organic compound.
- the composite coating layer is a base film layer.
- the "fabric layer” refers to a region that is not physically separated from a fabric, for example, an organic fiber.
- the composite coating layer may exist as a layer covering the entire fabric, and the composite coating layer as a layer covering a part of the fabric.
- the hydrophilic organic compound is configured to surround heat-resistant inorganic particles.
- a far-end layer is formed using an atomic layer deposition method, thereby simultaneously improving impregnation and heat shrinkage at high temperatures, which are weaknesses of existing polyethylene-based separators, without substantially increasing the thickness of the separator itself. Until the electrolyte is sufficiently impregnated, it helps to move lithium ions.
- the composite coating layer is disposed to surround the organic fiber. According to one embodiment, the composite coating layer is disposed to surround at least a portion of the circumference of the organic fiber. According to another embodiment, the composite coating layer is disposed to completely surround the organic fiber.
- the composite coating layer is disposed so as to surround the organic fiber, it is possible to effectively prevent deterioration due to heat and improve impregnation of the electrolyte on the surface of the separator.
- the atomic ratio of the Al atom due to the heat-resistant inorganic particles and the nitrogen atom due to the hydrophilic organic compound in the composite coating layer is 1:1 to 2:1.
- the separator according to one aspect is to form a composite coating layer by depositing a small amount of heat-resistant inorganic particles on a web structure of organic fibers by atomic layer deposition, and then immersing it in a dopamine solution, thereby increasing the total thickness of the separator.
- a uniform composite coating layer is formed over the inside and outside of the web structure of organic fibers.
- the composite coating layer formed on the porous film may close some of the pores of the porous film, thereby increasing resistance.
- the organic fiber web structure has porosity.
- the web structure may have a porosity of 30% to 60%, and an average diameter of the pores may be 25 nm to 70 nm. If the porosity is less than 30%, it can act as a resistive layer against lithium ions, and if it exceeds 60%, the mechanical properties become weak and the risk of internal short circuit increases.
- the average pore diameter is less than 25 nm, ionic conductivity may be lowered by acting as a resistive layer for lithium ions, and when it exceeds 70 nm, mechanical properties may be weakened and thus easily torn during the manufacturing process or operation.
- organic fibers are fibers formed from organic polymers.
- organic fibers include polyethylene fibers, polypropylene fibers, polyisobutylene fibers, polyvinyl chloride fibers, polyvinylidene chloride fibers, polyvinylidene fluoride fibers, polymethyl methacrylate fibers, and polyacrylonitrile.
- the present invention is not limited thereto and includes all fiber forms of all organic materials that can be used as a separator substrate.
- the heat-resistant inorganic particles include inorganic metal oxides, inorganic metal hydroxides, or combinations thereof.
- the heat-resistant inorganic particles are ⁇ -Al 2 O 3 , ⁇ -Al 2 O 3, boehmite ( ⁇ -AlO(OH)), gibbsite ( ⁇ -Al(OH) 3 ), SiO 2 , TiO 2 , SnO 2 , CeO 2 , ZrO 2 , CaO, MgO, NiO, ZnO, Y 2 O 3 , BaTiO 3 , Al(OH) 3 , Mg(OH) 2 or a combination thereof
- any inorganic material having heat resistance may be used. Since the heat-resistant inorganic particles have excellent mechanical properties and have excellent heat resistance even under high temperature conditions such as overcharging, a secondary battery including a separator including such heat-resistant inorganic particles may have improved thermal stability.
- the hydrophilic organic compound forms a self-assembled monolayer, and includes an organic compound containing a hydroxyl group and an amine group.

- a polyethylene porous substrate (SK innovation) having a thickness of 16um was prepared. After activating the surface of the porous polyethylene substrate using an O 2 plasma device, Al 2 O 3 is deposited by ALD. - TMA trimethylaluminium
- N 2 nitrogen
- the ratio of Al increased significantly in the 25 cycles, but it was confirmed that the increase rate of Al decreased significantly as the 50 and 100 ALDs proceeded. This is thought to be because Al is sufficiently deposited inside the porous PE, most of the pores are closed, and Al is deposited only on the outer surface of the PE. Therefore, in consideration of the function of passing through the electrolyte and lithium ions of the separator, it was determined that the ALD deposition proceeds about 25 times.

2O
3, γ-Al

2, ZrO
2, CaO, MgO, NiO, ZnO, Y
2O
3, BaTiO
3, Al(OH)
3, Mg(OH)

| 샘플 | C(%) | O(%) | Al(%) |
| PE | 99.79 | 0.21 | - |
