본 명세서는 2018년 12월 10일 한국특허청에 제출된 한국 특허 출원 제10-2018-0158269호의 출원일의 이익을 주장하며, 그 내용 전부는 본 명세서에 포함된다.
본 명세서는 화합물 및 이를 포함하는 유기 발광 소자에 관한 것이다.
일반적으로 유기 발광 현상이란 유기 물질을 이용하여 전기에너지를 빛에너지로 전환시켜주는 현상을 말한다. 유기 발광 현상을 이용하는 유기 발광 소자는 통상 양극과 음극 및 이 사이에 유기물층을 포함하는 구조를 가진다. 여기서 유기물층은 유기 발광 소자의 효율과 안정성을 높이기 위하여 각기 다른 물질로 구성된 다층의 구조로 이루어진 경우가 많으며, 예컨대 정공주입층, 정공수송층, 발광층, 전자수송층, 전자주입층 등으로 이루어 질 수 있다. 이러한 유기 발광 소자의 구조에서 두 전극 사이에 전압을 걸어주게 되면 양극에서는 정공이, 음극에서는 전자가 유기물층에 주입되게 되고, 주입된 정공과 전자가 만났을 때 엑시톤(exciton)이 형성되며, 이 엑시톤이 다시 바닥상태로 떨어질 때 빛이 나게 된다.
상기와 같은 유기 발광 소자를 위한 새로운 재료의 개발이 계속 요구되고 있다.
본 명세서는 화합물 및 이를 포함하는 유기 발광 소자를 제공한다.

본 명세서에 있어서, 열 활성화 지연형광 화합물의 최저 여기 삼중항 상태(T1)와 최저 여기 단일항 상태(S1)의 차이(△Est)는 0eV 초과 0.2eV 이하인 것이 바람직하다.

최저 여기 삼중항 상태(T1)와 최저 여기 단일항 상태(S1)의 차이(△Est)가 0.2 eV보다 클 경우, 상대적으로 역계간전이가 일어나기 어려워지므로 자연형광이 발생하는 현상도 적어질 수 있다.

상기 식에서, EgS와 Eg77K는 각각 상기 기술한 단일항 상태 및 삼중항 상태의 에너지 준위 측정법을 통해 측정가능한 값이며, 그 차이가 작아 상기 식을 만족하는 경우, 역계간 전이가 원활하게 이루어져 자연형광이 발생한다.
본 명세서에 있어서, 상기 화학식 1로 표시되는 화합물과 열 활성화 지연 형광 화합물의 혼합물은 발광층 엑시플렉스(exciplex) 형성을 방지하기 위해서, │HOMO(Host)│>│HOMO(TADF)│로 표시되며, S1(Host)>2.8eV 이고, HOMO(Host)≥5.8eV 인 것이 바람직하다.
상기 발광층의 엑시플렉스(exciplex)란, 두 개의 서로 다른 분자 간에 들뜬 상태와 기저 상태의 분자가 결합하여 형성된 착물을 의미한다.
본 명세서의 일 실시상태에 있어서, 상기 화학식 1로 표시되는 화합물과 열 활성화 지연형광 화합물이 함께 사용될 경우, 열 활성화 지연형광 화합물의 함량은 호스트 100 중량부를 기준으로 1 내지 60 중량부일 수 있다.
본 명세서의 일 실시상태에 있어서, 호스트로서 화학식 1의 화합물 외에 추가의 호스트를 더 사용하는 경우, 호스트 100 중량부를 기준으로 화학식 1의 화합물의 함량은 99 내지 40 중량부일 수 있다.
본 명세서의 일 실시상태에 있어서, 상기 열 활성화 지연형광 화합물은 하기 화합물 중에서 선택되는 어느 하나일 수 있으나, 이들에 한정되는 것은 아니다.
본 발명의 일 실시상태에 있어서, 상기 유기물층은 정공주입층, 정공수송층, 또는 정공 주입 및 수송층을 포함하고, 상기 정공주입층, 정공수송층, 또는 정공 주입 및 수송층은 상기 화학식 1의 화합물을 포함할 수 있다.
본 발명의 일 실시상태에 있어서, 상기 유기물층은 전자주입층, 전자수송층, 또는 전자 주입 및 수송층을 포함하고, 상기 전자주입층, 전자수송층, 또는 전자 주입 및 수송층은 상기 화학식 1의 화합물을 포함할 수 있다.
본 발명의 일 실시상태에 있어서, 상기 유기물층은 전자차단층, 또는 정공차단층을 포함하고, 상기 전자차단층, 또는 정공차단층은 상기 화학식 1의 화합물을 포함할 수 있다.
예컨대, 본 발명에 따른 유기 발광 소자는 스퍼터링(sputtering)이나 전자빔 증발(e-beam evaporation)과 같은 PVD(physical vapor deposition) 방법을 이용하여, 기판 상에 금속 또는 전도성을 가지는 금속 산화물 또는 이들의 합금을 증착시켜 양극을 형성하고, 그 위에 정공 주입층, 정공 수송층, 발광층, 전자 수송층을 포함하는 유기물층 및 상기 화학식 1의 화합물을 포함하는 유기물층을 형성한 후, 그 위에 음극으로 사용할 수 있는 물질을 증착시킴으로써 제조될 수 있다. 이와 같은 방법 외에도, 기판 상에 음극 물질부터 유기물층, 양극 물질을 차례로 증착시켜 유기 발광 소자를 만들 수도 있다.
상기 양극 물질로는 통상 유기물층으로 정공 주입이 원활할 수 있도록 일함수가 큰 물질이 바람직하다. 본 발명에서 사용될 수 있는 양극 물질의 구체적인 예로는 바나듐, 크롬, 구리, 아연, 금과 같은 금속 또는 이들의 합금; 아연 산화물, 인듐 산화물, 인듐주석 산화물(ITO), 인듐아연 산화물(IZO)과 같은 금속 산화물; ZnO:Al 또는 SnO2 : Sb와 같은 금속과 산화물의 조합; 폴리(3-메틸화합물의), 폴리[3,4-(에틸렌-1,2-디옥시)화합물의](PEDT), 폴리피롤 및 폴리아닐린과 같은 전도성 고분자 등이 있으나, 이들에만 한정되는 것은 아니다.
상기 음극 물질로는 통상 유기물층으로 전자 주입이 용이하도록 일함수가 작은 물질인 것이 바람직하다. 음극 물질의 구체적인 예로는 마그네슘, 칼슘, 나트륨, 칼륨, 티타늄, 인듐, 이트륨, 리튬, 가돌리늄, 알루미늄, 은, 주석 및 납과 같은 금속 또는 이들의 합금; LiF/Al 또는 LiO2/Al과 같은 다층 구조 물질 등이 있으나, 이들에만 한정되는 것은 아니다.
상기 정공주입물질로는 낮은 전압에서 양극으로부터 정공을 잘 주입 받을 수 있는 물질로서, 정공 주입 물질의 HOMO(highest occupied molecular orbital)가 양극 물질의 일함수와 주변 유기물층의 HOMO 사이인 것이 바람직하다. 정공 주입 물질의 구체적인 예로는 금속 포피린(porphyrine), 올리고티오펜, 아릴아민 계열의 유기물, 헥사니트릴헥사아자트리페닐렌 계열의 유기물, 퀴나크리돈(quinacridone) 계열의 유기물, 페릴렌(perylene) 계열의 유기물, 안트라퀴논 및 폴리아닐린과 폴리화합물의 계열의 전도성 고분자 등이 있으나, 이들에만 한정되는 것은 아니다.
상기 정공수송물질로는 양극이나 정공 주입층으로부터 정공을 수송받아 발광층으로 옮겨줄 수 있는 물질로 정공에 대한 이동성이 큰 물질이 적합하다. 구체적인 예로는 아릴아민 계열의 유기물, 전도성 고분자, 및 공액 부분과 비공액 부분이 함께 있는 블록 공중합체 등이 있으나, 이들에만 한정되는 것은 아니다.
상기 발광 물질로는 정공 수송층과 전자 수송층으로부터 정공과 전자를 각각 수송받아 결합시킴으로써 가시광선 영역의 빛을 낼 수 있는 물질로서, 형광이나 인광에 대한 양자 효율이 좋은 물질이 바람직하다. 구체적인 예로는 8-히드록시-퀴놀린 알루미늄 착물(Alq3); 카르바졸 계열 화합물; 이량체화 스티릴(dimerized styryl) 화합물; BAlq; 10-히드록시벤조 퀴놀린-금속 화합물; 벤족사졸, 벤즈티아졸 및 벤즈이미다졸 계열의 화합물; 폴리(p-페닐렌비닐렌)(PPV) 계열의 고분자; 스피로(spiro) 화합물; 폴리플루오렌; 루브렌 등이 있으나, 이들에만 한정되는 것은 아니다.
상기 유기 발광 소자가 복수개의 유기물층을 포함하는 경우, 상기 유기물층은 동일한 물질 또는 다른 물질로 형성될 수 있다.
본 명세서의 유기 발광 소자는 유기물층 중 1층 이상이 상기 화합물을 이용하여 형성되는 것을 제외하고는 당 기술분야에 알려져 있는 재료와 방법으로 제조될 수 있다.
본 명세서는 또한, 상기 화합물을 이용하여 형성된 유기 발광 소자의 제조 방법을 제공한다.
도펀트 재료로는 방향족 화합물, 스트릴아민 화합물, 붕소 착체, 플루오란텐 화합물, 금속 착체 등이 있다. 구체적으로 방향족 화합물로는 치환 또는 비치환된 아릴아미노기를 갖는 축합 방향족환 유도체로서, 아릴아미노기를 갖는 피렌, 안트라센, 크리센, 페리플란텐 등이 있으며, 스티릴아민 화합물로는 치환 또는 비치환된 아릴아민에 적어도 1개의 아릴비닐기가 치환되어 있는 화합물로, 아릴기, 실릴기, 알킬기, 시클로알킬기 및 아릴아미노기로 이루어진 군에서 1 또는 2이상 선택되는 치환기가 치환 또는 비치환된다. 구체적으로 스티릴아민, 스티릴디아민, 스티릴트리아민, 스티릴테트라아민 등이 있으나, 이에 한정되지 않는다. 또한, 금속 착체로는 이리듐 착체, 백금 착체 등이 있으나, 이에 한정되지 않는다.
상기 전자 수송층은 전자주입층으로부터 전자를 수취하여 발광층까지 전자를 수송하는 층으로 전자 수송 물질로는 캐소드로부터 전자를 잘 주입 받아 발광층으로 옮겨줄 수 있는 물질로서, 전자에 대한 이동성이 큰 물질이 적합하다. 구체적인 예로는 8-히드록시퀴놀린의 Al착물; Alq3을 포함한 착물; 유기 라디칼 화합물; 히드록시플라본-금속 착물 등이 있으나, 이들에만 한정되는 것은 아니다. 전자 수송층은 종래기술에 따라 사용된 바와 같이 임의의 원하는 캐소드 물질과 함께 사용할 수 있다. 특히, 적절한 캐소드 물질의 예는 낮은 일함수를 가지고 알루미늄층 또는 실버층이 뒤따르는 통상적인 물질이다. 구체적으로 세슘, 바륨, 칼슘, 이테르븀 및 사마륨이고, 각 경우 알루미늄 층 또는 실버층이 뒤따른다.
상기 전자 주입층은 전극으로부터 전자를 주입하는 층으로, 전자를 수송하는 능력을 갖고, 캐소드로부터의 전자주입 효과, 발광층 또는 발광 재료에 대하여 우수한 전자 주입 효과를 가지며, 발광층에서 생성된 여기자의 정공 주입층에의 이동을 방지하고, 또한, 박막형성능력이 우수한 화합물이 바람직하다. 구체적으로는 플루오레논, 안트라퀴노다이메탄, 다이페노퀴논, 티오피란 다이옥사이드, 옥사졸, 옥사다이아졸, 트리아졸, 이미다졸, 페릴렌테트라카복실산, 플루오레닐리덴 메탄, 안트론 등과 그들의 유도체, 금속 착체 화합물 및 함질소 5원환 유도체 등이 있으나, 이에 한정되지 않는다.
상기 금속 착체 화합물로서는 8-하이드록시퀴놀리나토 리튬, 비스(8-하이드록시퀴놀리나토)아연, 비스(8-하이드록시퀴놀리나토)구리, 비스(8-하이드록시퀴놀리나토)망간, 트리스(8-하이드록시퀴놀리나토)알루미늄, 트리스(2-메틸-8-하이드록시퀴놀리나토)알루미늄, 트리스(8-하이드록시퀴놀리나토)갈륨, 비스(10-하이드록시벤조[h]퀴놀리나토)베릴륨, 비스(10-하이드록시벤조[h]퀴놀리나토)아연, 비스(2-메틸-8-퀴놀리나토)클로로갈륨, 비스(2-메틸-8-퀴놀리나토)(o-크레졸라토)갈륨, 비스(2-메틸-8-퀴놀리나토)(1-나프톨라토)알루미늄, 비스(2-메틸-8-퀴놀리나토)(2-나프톨라토)갈륨 등이 있으나, 이에 한정되지 않는다.
상기 전자차단층은 전자의 애노드 도달을 저지하는 층으로, 그 재료로 당 기술분야에 알려져 있는 재료가 사용될 수 있다.
상기 정공차단층은 정공의 캐소드 도달을 저지하는 층으로, 일반적으로 정공주입층과 동일한 조건으로 형성될 수 있다. 구체적으로 옥사디아졸 유도체나 트리아졸 유도체, 페난트롤린 유도체, BCP, 알루미늄 착물 (aluminum complex) 등이 있으나, 이에 한정되지 않는다.
본 명세서에 따른 유기 발광 소자는 사용되는 재료에 따라 전면 발광형, 후면 발광형 또는 양면 발광형일 수 있다.
본 발명의 유기 발광 소자는 전술한 화합물을 이용하여 한 층 이상의 유기물층을 형성하는 것을 제외하고는, 통상의 유기 발광 소자의 제조방법 및 재료에 의하여 제조될 수 있다.
하기 반응식에 있어서, 치환기의 종류 및 개수는 당업자가 공지된 출발물질을 적절히 선택함에 따라 다양한 종류의 중간체를 합성할 수 있다. 반응 종류 및 반응 조건은 당기술분야에 알려져 있는 것들이 이용될 수 있다.

상기 반응식 1에서, Ra 및 Rb는 각각 화학식 1의 R1 및 R2의 정의와 같고,

가. 중간체 A의 합성
질소 하에서 sm A 0.4mol, 아이오딘(I2) 0.2mol 그리고 페닐 아이오다이드 디아세테이트(Ph-I(OAc)2) 0.2mol을 150ml 아세트산(AcOH)과 150ml 아세트산 무수물(Ac2O) 혼합용액에 넣고 황산(sulfuric acid, H2SO4)세 방울 투입한 후 상온에서 열 시간 동안 교반하였다. 반응 종결 후 혼합 용액에 에틸 아세테이트를 넣은 후 물과 함께 씻어준 후 층분리를 하였다. 유기층만 받아 무수 황산 마그네슘을 넣고 교반하여 실리카 패드(silica pad)로 여과 후 감압 하에서 용액 농축하였다. 그 후 컬럼 정제하여, 중간체 A를 65% 수율로 수득하였다.
나. 중간체 B의 합성
중간체 A 0.3mol, sm B 0.33mol 그리고 테트라키스(트리페닐포스핀)팔라듐(Pd(PPh2)4) 2mol%를 테트라히드로퓨란(THF) 50ml에 넣고 탄산칼륨(potassium carbonate, K2CO3) 0.6mol을 물(H2O) 25ml에 녹여 섞어주었다.
80℃에서 12시간 동안 교반 후 반응 종결하고 상온으로 식혀 물과 유기층을 분리해주었다. 유기층만 받아 무수 황산 마그네슘을 넣고 교반하여 실리카 패드(silica pad)로 여과 후 감압 하에서 용액 농축하였다. 그 후 컬럼 정제하여, 중간체 B를 70% 수율로 수득하였다.
다. 화학식 1-1의 합성
중간체 B 0.2mol, sm C 0.2mol, 비스(트리-터-부틸포스핀)팔라듐(0)(Pd(t-Bu3P)2) 1mol% 그리고 소듐 t-부톡사이드(NaOt-Bu) 0.24mol을 70ml 톨루엔(Toluene)에 넣고 110℃에서 12시간 동안 교반하였다. 반응 종결 후 상온으로 식힌 후 실리카 패드(silica pad)로 여과하여 불순물을 제거하였다. 여과 후 용액은 물과 함께 씻어준 후 유기층만 받아 무수 황산 마그네슘을 넣고 교반하여 실리카 패드(silica pad)로 여과 후 감압 하에서 용액 농축하였다. 그 후 컬럼 정제하여, 화학식 1-1의 화합물을 63% 수율로 수득하였다.

질소 하에서 sm D 0.4mol과 브로민(Br2) 0.5mol을 150ml 클로로폼(Chloroform, CHCl3)에 넣고 -40℃에서 30분 동안 교반하였다. 반응 종결 후 혼합 용액에 소듐 바이설페이트 수용액을 넣은 후 층분리를 하였다. 유기층만 받아 무수 황산 마그네슘을 넣고 교반하여 실리카 패드(silica pad)로 여과 후 감압 하에서 용액 농축하였다. 그 후 컬럼 정제하여, 중간체 C를 35% 수율로 수득하였다.
나. 중간체 D의 10-1합성
중간체 C 0.3mol, sm E 0.33mol 그리고 [1,1′-비스(디페닐포스피노) 페로센]디클로로팔라듐(II) ([1,1′-Bis(diphenylphosphino) ferrocene]dichloropalladium(II), Pd(dppf)Cl2) 2mol%를 테트라히드로퓨란 50ml에 넣고 탄산칼륨 0.6mol을 물 25ml에 녹여 섞어주었다. 80℃에서 12시간 동안 교반 후 반응 종결하고 상온으로 식혀 물과 유기층을 분리해주었다. 유기층만 받아 무수 황산 마그네슘을 넣고 교반하여 실리카 패드(silica pad)로 여과 후 감압 하에서 용액 농축하였다. 그 후 컬럼 정제하여, 중간체 D를 70% 수율로 수득하였다.
다. 화학식1-2의 합성
중간체 D 0.2mol, sm F 0.2mol, 비스(트리-터-부틸포스핀)팔라듐(0) 1mol% 그리고 소듐 t-부톡사이드 0.24mol을 70ml 톨루엔에 넣고 110℃에서 12시간 동안 교반하였다. 반응 종결 후 상온으로 식힌 후 실리카 패드(silica pad)로 여과하여 불순물을 제거하였다. 여과 후 용액은 물과 함께 씻어준 후 유기층만 받아 무수 황산 마그네슘을 넣고 교반하여 실리카 패드(silica pad)로 여과 후 감압 하에서 용액 농축하였다. 그 후 컬럼 정제하여, 화학식 1-2의 화합물을 63% 수율로 수득하였다.
본 명세서의 반응식 1 또는 2와 상기 중간체들을 통상의 기술상식을 바탕으로 적절히 조합하면, 본 명세서에 기재되어 있는 상기 화학식 1의 화합물들을 모두 제조할 수 있다.
상기 화학식 1의 화합물의 제조방법 및 이들을 이용한 유기 발광 소자의 제조는 이하의 실시예에서 구체적으로 설명한다. 그러나, 하기 실시예는 본 발명을 예시하기 위한 것이며, 본 발명의 범위가 이들에 의하여 한정되는 것은 아니다.
[합성예 1] 화합물 1의 합성
가. 중간체 1-1의 합성
질소 하에서 4-브로모 디벤조퓨란 10g(40.65mmol), 아이오딘 5.1g(20.32mmol) 그리고 페닐 아이오다이드 디아세테이트 6.6g(20.32mmol)을 150ml 아세트산과 150ml 아세트산 무수물의 혼합용액에 넣고 황산(sulfuric acid) 세 방울 투입한 후 상온에서 열 시간 동안 교반하였다. 반응 종결 후 혼합 용액에 에틸 아세테이트를 넣은 후 물과 함께 씻어준 후 층분리를 하였다. 유기층만 받아 무수 황산 마그네슘을 넣고 교반하여, 실리카 패드(silica pad)로 여과 후 감압 하에서 용액 농축하였다. 그 후 컬럼 정제하여, 중간체 1-1을 65% 수율로 수득하였다.
나. 중간체 1-2의 합성
중간체 1-1 9.8g(26.35mmol), 디벤조[b,d]퓨란-4-일 보론산 6.15g(28.99mmol) 그리고 테트라키스(트리페닐포스핀)팔라듐 2mol%를 테트라히드로퓨란 80ml에 넣고 탄산 칼륨(potassium carbonate) 7.3g(52.70mmol)을 물 40ml에 녹여 섞어주었다. 80℃에서 12시간 동안 교반 후 반응 종결하고 상온으로 식혀 물과 유기층을 분리해주었다. 유기층만 받아 무수 황산 마그네슘을 넣고 교반하여 실리카 패드(silica pad)로 여과 후 감압 하에서 용액 농축하였다. 그 후 컬럼 정제하여, 중간체 1-2를 60% 수율(6.5g)로 수득하였다.
다. 화합물 1의 합성
중간체 1-2 6.5g(15.78mmol), 9H-카바졸 2.6g(15.78mmol), 비스(트리-터-부틸포스핀)팔라듐(0)1mol% 그리고 소듐 t-부톡사이드 1.8g (18.94mmol)을 50ml 톨루엔에 넣고 110℃에서 12시간 동안 교반하였다. 반응 종결 후 상온으로 식힌 후 실리카 패드(silica pad)로 여과하여 불순물을 제거하였다. 여과 후 용액은 물과 함께 씻어준 후 유기층만 받아 무수 황산 마그네슘을 넣고 교반하여 실리카 패드(silica pad)로 여과 후 감압 하에서 용액 농축하였다. 그 후 컬럼 정제하여, 화합물 1을 63% 수율(4.96g)로 수득하였다.

[합성예 2] 화합물 2의 합성
중간체 1-2 6.5g(15.78mmol) 및 9H-카바졸 2.6g(15.78mmol) 대신, 중간체 1-2 6g(14.56mmol)과 2-페닐-9H-카바졸 3.5g(14.56mmol)을 이용한 것 외에는 상기 화합물 1의 합성과 동일한 방법으로 반응하고 정제하여 화합물 2를 61%의 수율(5.1g)로 수득하였다.

[합성예 3] 화합물 3의 합성
가. 중간체 3-1의 합성
디벤조[b,d]퓨란-4-일 보론산 대신 디벤조[b,d]퓨란-1-일 보론산을 이용한 것 외에는 상기 중간체 1-2의 합성과 동일한 방법으로 반응하고 정제하여 중간체 3-1을 57%의 수율(6.2g)로 수득하였다.
나. 화합물 3의 합성
중간체 1-2 6.5g(15.78mmol) 및 9H-카바졸 2.6g(15.78mmol) 대신, 중간체 3-1 6.2g(15.05mmol)과 9H-카바졸 2.5g(15.05mmol)을 이용한 것 외에는 상기 화합물 1의 합성과 동일한 방법으로 반응하고 정제하여 화합물 3을 65%의 수율(4.9g)로 수득하였다.

[합성예 4] 화합물 4의 합성
가. 중간체 4-1의 합성
중간체 1-1 9.8g(26.35mmol) 및 디벤조[b,d]퓨란-4-일 보론산 6.15g(28.99mmol) 대신, 중간체 1-1 6g(16.14mmol)과 디벤조[b,d]티오펜-2-일 보론산 3.96g(17.75mmol)을 이용한 것 외에는 상기 중간체 1-2의 합성과 동일한 방법으로 반응하고 정제하여 중간체 4-1을 63%의 수율(4.4g)로 수득하였다.
나. 화합물 4의 합성
중간체 1-2 6.5g(15.78mmol) 및 9H-카바졸 2.6g(15.78mmol) 대신, 중간체 4-1 4.4g(10.28mmol)과 9H-카바졸 1.7g(10.28mmol)을 이용한 것 외에는 상기 화합물 1의 합성과 동일한 방법으로 반응하고 정제하여 화합물 4를 66%의 수율(5.3g)로 수득하였다.

[합성예 5] 화합물 5의 합성
가. 중간체 5-1의 합성
질소 하에서 4-브로모 디벤조티오펜 10g(38.18mmol), 아이오딘 4.8g(19.09mmol) 그리고 페닐 아이오다이드 디아세테이트 6.2g(19.09mmol)을 150ml 아세트산과 150ml 아세트산 무수물의 혼합용액에 넣고 황산(sulfuric acid) 세 방울 투입한 후 상온에서 열 시간 동안 교반하였다. 반응 종결 후 혼합 용액에 에틸 아세테이트를 넣은 후 물과 함께 씻어준 후 층분리를 하였다. 유기층만 받아 무수 황산 마그네슘을 넣고 교반하여 실리카 패드(silica pad)로 여과 후 감압 하에서 용액 농축하였다. 그 후 컬럼 정제하여, 중간체 5-1을 53% 수율(7.8g)로 수득하였다.
나. 중간체 5-2의 합성
중간체 5-1 7.8g(18.22mmol), 디벤조[b,d]퓨란-4-일 보론산 4.3g(20.05mmol) 그리고 테트라키스(트리페닐포스핀)팔라듐 2mol%를 테트라히드로퓨란 60ml에 넣고 탄산 칼륨(potassium carbonate) 5.0g(36.44mmol)을 물 30ml에 녹여 섞어주었다. 80℃에서 12시간 동안 교반 후 반응 종결하고 상온으로 식혀 물과 유기층을 분리해주었다. 유기층만 받아 무수 황산 마그네슘을 넣고 교반하여 실리카 패드(silica pad)로 여과 후 감압 하에서 용액 농축하였다. 그 후 컬럼 정제하여, 중간체 5-2를 61% 수율(4.8g)로 수득하였다.
다. 화합물 5의 합성
중간체 5-2 4.8g(11.22mmol), 9H-카바졸 1.9g(11.22mmol), 비스(트리-터-부틸포스핀)팔라듐(0) 1mol% 그리고 소듐 t-부톡사이드 1.3g (13.46mmol)을 30ml 톨루엔에 넣고 110℃에서 12시간 동안 교반하였다. 반응 종결 후 상온으로 식힌 후 실리카 패드(silica pad)로 여과하여 불순물을 제거하였다. 여과 후 용액은 물과 함께 씻어준 후 유기층만 받아 무수 황산 마그네슘을 넣고 교반하여 실리카 패드(silica pad)로 여과 후 감압 하에서 용액 농축하였다. 그 후 컬럼 정제하여, 화합물 5를 58% 수율(3.4g)로 수득하였다.

[합성예 6] 화합물 6의 합성
중간체 5-2 4.8g(11.22mmol) 및 9H-카바졸 1.9g(11.22mmol) 대신, 중간체 5-2 8g(18.69mmol)과 3,6-디메틸-9H-카바졸 3.6g(18.69mmol)을 이용한 것 외에는 상기 화합물 5의 합성과 동일한 방법으로 반응하고 정제하여 화합물 6을 59%의 수율(5.9g)로 수득하였다.

[합성예 7] 화합물 7의 합성
가. 중간체 7-1의 합성
질소 하에서 1-아이오도 디벤조퓨란 10g(34.02mmol) 및 브로민 2.7g(17.01mmol)을 140ml 클로로폼(Chloroform)에 넣고 -40℃에서 30분 동안 교반하였다. 반응 종결 후 용액에 소듐 바이설페이트 수용액을 넣은 후 층분리를 하였다. 유기층만 받아 무수 황산 마그네슘을 넣고 교반하여 실리카 패드(silica pad)로 여과 후 감압 하에서 용액 농축하였다. 그 후 컬럼 정제하여, 중간체 7-1을 35% 수율(4.4g)로 수득하였다.
나. 중간체 7-2의 합성
중간체 7-1 4.4g(11.83mmol), 디벤조[b,d]퓨란-4-일 보론산 2.8g(13.01mmol) 그리고 테트라키스(트리페닐포스핀)팔라듐 2mol%를 테트라히드로퓨란 30ml에 넣고 탄산 칼륨(potassium carbonate) 3.27g(23.66mmol)을 물 15ml에 녹여 섞어주었다. 80℃에서 12시간 동안 교반 후 반응 종결하고 상온으로 식혀 물과 유기층을 분리해주었다. 유기층만 받아 무수 황산 마그네슘을 넣고 교반하여 실리카 패드(silica pad)로 여과 후 감압 하에서 용액 농축하였다. 그 후 컬럼 정제하여, 중간체 7-2를 60% 수율(2.9g)로 수득하였다.
다. 화합물 7의 합성
중간체 7-2 2.9g(7.04mmol), 9H-카바졸 1.2g(7.04mmol), 비스(트리-터-부틸포스핀)팔라듐(0) 1mol% 그리고 소듐 t-부톡사이드 0.8g (8.45mmol)을 20ml 톨루엔에 넣고 110℃에서 12시간 동안 교반하였다. 반응 종결 후 상온으로 식힌 후 실리카 패드(silica pad)로 여과하여 불순물을 제거하였다. 여과 후 용액은 물과 함께 씻어준 후 유기층만 받아 무수 황산 마그네슘을 넣고 교반하여 실리카 패드(silica pad)로 여과 후 감압 하에서 용액 농축하였다. 그 후 컬럼 정제하여, 화합물 7을 65% 수율(2.3g)로 수득하였다.

[합성예 8] 화합물 8의 합성
가. 중간체 8-1의 합성
중간체 7-1 4.4g(11.83mmol) 및 디벤조[b,d]퓨란-4-일 보론산 2.8g(13.01mmol) 대신, 중간체 7-1 6g(16.14mmol)과 디벤조[b,d]퓨란-1-일 보론산 3.7g(17.75mmol)을 이용한 것 외에는 상기 중간체 7-2의 합성과 동일한 방법으로 반응하고 정제하여 중간체 8-1을 60%의 수율(3.9g)로 수득하였다.
나. 화합물 8의 합성
중간체 7-2 2.9g(7.04mmol) 및 9H-카바졸 1.2g(7.04mmol) 대신, 중간체 8-1 3.9g(9.47mmol)과 9H-카바졸 1.6g(9.47mmol)을 이용한 것 외에는 상기 화합물 7의 합성과 동일한 방법으로 반응하고 정제하여 화합물 8을 58%의 수율(2.7g)로 수득하였다.

[합성예 9] 화합물 9의 합성
중간체 7-2 2.9g(7.04mmol) 및 9H-카바졸 1.2g(7.04mmol) 대신, 중간체 7-2 6.0g(14.56mmol) 및 9H-카바졸-3-카보니트릴 2.8g(14.56mmol)을 이용한 것 외에는 상기 화합물 7의 합성과 동일한 방법으로 반응하고 정제하여 화합물 9를 62%의 수율(4.7g)로 수득하였다.

[합성예 10] 화합물 10의 합성
가. 중간체 10-1의 합성
질소 하에서 1-아이오도 디벤조티오펜 10g(32.26mmol) 및 브로민 2.7g(16.13mmol)을 140ml 클로로폼에 넣고 -40℃에서 30분 동안 교반하였다. 반응 종결 후 용액에 소듐 바이설페이트 수용액을 넣은 후 층분리를 하였다. 유기층만 받아 무수 황산 마그네슘을 넣고 교반하여 실리카 패드(silica pad)로 여과 후 감압 하에서 용액 농축하였다. 그 후 컬럼 정제하여, 중간체 10-1을 31% 수율(3.8g)로 수득하였다.
나. 중간체 10-2의 합성
중간체 10-1 3.8g(9.80mmol), 디벤조[b,d]퓨란-4-일 보론산 2.3g(10.78mmol) 그리고 테트라키스(트리페닐포스핀)팔라듐 2mol%를 테트라히드로퓨란 30ml에 넣고 탄산 칼륨(potassium carbonate) 2.7g(19.60mmol)을 물 15ml에 녹여 섞어주었다. 80℃에서 12시간 동안 교반 후 반응 종결하고 상온으로 식혀 물과 유기층을 분리해주었다. 유기층만 받아 무수 황산 마그네슘을 넣고 교반하여 실리카 패드(silica pad)로 여과 후 감압 하에서 용액 농축하였다. 그 후 컬럼 정제하여, 중간체 10-2를 63% 수율(2.6g)로 수득하였다.
다. 화합물 10의 합성
중간체 10-2 2.6g(6.07mmol), 9H-카바졸 1.0g(6.07mmol), 비스(트리-터-부틸포스핀)팔라듐(0)1mol% 그리고 소듐 t-부톡사이드 0.7g (7.28mmol)을 20ml 톨루엔에 넣고 110℃에서 12시간 동안 교반하였다. 반응 종결 후 상온으로 식힌 후 실리카 패드(silica pad)로 여과하여 불순물을 제거하였다. 여과 후 용액은 물과 함께 씻어준 후 유기층만 받아 무수 황산 마그네슘을 넣고 교반하고, 실리카 패드(silica pad)로 여과 후 감압 하에서 용액 농축하였다. 그 후 컬럼 정제하여, 화합물 10을 59% 수율(1.8g)로 수득하였다.

[합성예 11] 화합물 11의 합성
가. 중간체 11-1의 합성
중간체 10-1 3.8g(9.80mmol) 및 디벤조[b,d]퓨란-4-일 보론산 2.3g(10.78mmol) 대신, 중간체 10-1 6g(15.47mmol)과 디벤조[b,d]퓨란-1-일 보론산 3.6g(17.02mmol)을 이용한 것 외에는 상기 중간체 10-2의 합성과 동일한 방법으로 반응하고 정제하여 중간체 11-1을 59%의 수율(3.8g)로 수득하였다.
나. 화합물 11의 합성
중간체 10-2 2.6g(6.07mmol) 및 9H-카바졸 1.0g(6.07mmol) 대신, 중간체 11-1 3.8g(8.88mmol)과 9H-카바졸 1.5g(8.88mmol)을 이용한 것 외에는 상기 화합물 10의 합성과 동일한 방법으로 반응하고 정제하여 화합물 11을 64%의 수율(2.9g)로 수득하였다.

<실험예 1-1>
ITO(ndium tin oxide)가 1,000Å의 두께로 박막 코팅된 유리 기판을 세제를 녹인 증류수에 넣고 초음파로 세척하였다. 이 때, 세제로는 피셔사(Fischer Co.) 제품을 사용하였으며, 증류수로는 밀러포어사(Millipore Co.) 제품의 필터(Filter)로 2차로 걸러진 증류수를 사용하였다. ITO를 30분간 세척한 후 증류수로 2회 반복하여 초음파 세척을 10분간 진행하였다. 증류수 세척이 끝난 후, 이소프로필알콜, 아세톤, 메탄올의 용제로 초음파 세척을 하고 건조시킨 후 플라즈마 세정기로 수송시켰다. 또한, 산소 플라즈마를 이용하여 상기 기판을 5분간 세정한 후 진공 증착기로 기판을 수송시켰다. 약 10-7 Torr 진공 하에 가열 보트로부터 증발에 의해 다음과 같은 순서로 유기 발광 소자의 각 층을 증착하였다. 이때, 유기물 또는 무기물의 증착 속도는 1 Å/s로 설정하였다.
이렇게 준비된 ITO 투명 전극 위에, 상술한 방법을 통해 m-MTDATA(60 nm) / TCTA(80 nm) / Host + 10 wt% Ir(ppy)3(300 nm)/ BCP(10 nm)/ Alq3(30 nm) / LiF(1 nm) / Al (200 nm) 순으로 유기 발광 소자를 구성하고, 상기 호스트로서 화합물 1을 사용하여 유기 발광 소자를 제조하였다.
m-MTDATA, TCTA, Ir(ppy)3, BCP 및 Alq3의 구조는 각각 하기와 같다.
<실험예 1-2>
상기 실험예 1-1에서 화합물 1 대신 상기 화합물 2를 사용한 것을 제외하고는 실험예 1-1과 동일한 방법으로 유기 발광 소자를 제작하였다.
<실험예 1-3>
상기 실험예 1-1에서 화합물 1 대신 상기 화합물 3을 사용한 것을 제외하고는 실험예 1-1과 동일한 방법으로 유기 발광 소자를 제작하였다.
<실험예 1-4>
상기 실험예 1-1에서 화합물 1 대신 상기 화합물 4를 사용한 것을 제외하고는 실험예 1-1과 동일한 방법으로 유기 발광 소자를 제작하였다.
<실험예 1-5>
상기 실험예 1-1에서 화합물 1 대신 상기 화합물 5를 사용한 것을 제외하고는 실험예 1-1과 동일한 방법으로 유기 발광 소자를 제작하였다.

실험 결과, 본 발명에 따른 화합물 1 내지 11로 표시되는 화합물을 발광층의 호스트 물질로 사용하는 실험예 1-1 내지 1-11의 녹색 유기 발광 소자는 종래 그린호스트(GH)를 사용하는 비교예 1-1 내지 1-4의 녹색 유기 발광 소자보다 전류 효율 및 구동전압 면에서 우수한 성능을 나타내었다.
<실험예 2-1>
화합물 1을 발광물질층의 호스트로 적용한 유기 발광 소자를 제작하였다. 먼저 40 mm × 40 mm × 두께 0.5 mm의 ITO(반사판 포함) 전극 부착 유리 기판을 이소프로필알코올, 아세톤, DI Water로 5분 동안 초음파 세정을 진행한 후 100℃ Oven에 건조하였다. 기판 세정 후 진공상태에서 2분 동안 O2 플라즈마 처리하고 상부에 다른 층들을 증착하기 위하여 증착 챔버로 이송하였다. 약 10-7 Torr 진공 하에 가열 보트로부터 증발에 의해 다음과 같은 순서로 유기 발광 소자의 각 층을 증착하였다. 이때, 유기물 또는 무기물의 증착 속도는 1 Å/s로 설정하였다.
상기 ITO 투명 전극 위에, 상술한 방법을 통해 정공주입층(HIL; HAT-CN, 70 Å), 정공수송층(HTL; NPB, 780 Å), 전자차단층(EBL; mCBP, 150 Å), 발광물질층(EML; 화합물 1을 호스트로 사용하고 BDpyInCz을 지연형광 물질로 30 중량% 도핑, 350 Å), 정공차단층(HBL; B3PYMPM; 100 Å), 전자수송층(ETL: TPBi, 250 Å) 및 전자주입층(EIL; LiF, 8 Å), 음극(Al; 1000 Å) 순으로 유기 발광 소자를 제작하였다.
HAT-CN, NPB, mCBP, BDpyInCz, B3PYMPM 및 TPBi의 구조는 각각 하기와 같다.
상기 CPL로 캡핑층(capping layer)을 성막한 뒤에 유리로 인캡슐레이션하였다. 이러한 층들의 증착 후 피막 형성을 위해 증착 챔버에서 건조 박스 내로 옮기고 후속적으로 UV 경화 에폭시 및 수분 게터(getter)를 사용하여 인캡슐레이션하였다.
<실험예 2-2>
상기 실험예 2-1에서 화합물 1 대신 상기 화합물 2를 사용한 것을 제외하고는 실험예 2-1과 동일한 방법으로 유기 발광 소자를 제작하였다.
<실험예 2-3>
상기 실험예 2-1에서 화합물 1 대신 상기 화합물 3을 사용한 것을 제외하고는 실험예 2-1과 동일한 방법으로 유기 발광 소자를 제작하였다.
<실험예 2-4>
상기 실험예 2-1에서 화합물 1 대신 상기 화합물 4를 사용한 것을 제외하고는 실험예 2-1과 동일한 방법으로 유기 발광 소자를 제작하였다.
<실험예 2-5>
상기 실험예 2-1에서 화합물 1 대신 상기 화합물 5를 사용한 것을 제외하고는 실험예 2-1과 동일한 방법으로 유기 발광 소자를 제작하였다.
<실험예 2-6>

본 발명에 따라 합성된 유기 화합물을 지연형광 발광물질층의 호스트로 사용한 경우, 비교예 2-1 내지 2-4의 GH 1 내지 GH 4를 호스트로 사용한 경우와 비교해서 구동 전압은 낮아지고 외부양자효율(EQE)은 향상되었다. 결국, 본 발명의 유기 화합물을 유기발광층에 적용하여 발광다이오드의 구동 전압을 낮추고, 발광 효율이 향상되며 색순도를 개선할 수 있다는 것을 확인하였다. 따라서 본 발명의 유기 화합물이 적용된 유기 발광 소자를 이용하여, 소비 전력을 낮추고, 발광 효율 및 소자 수명이 향상된 유기 발광 소자 표시장치 및/또는 조명 장치와 같은 발광 장치 등에 활용될 수 있다.

- 청구항 1에 있어서, 상기 R5 및 R6은 서로 같거나 상이하고, 각각 독립적으로, 수소, 니트릴기, 또는 탄소수 6 내지 30의 아릴기인 것인 화합물.
- 제1 전극; 상기 제1 전극에 대향하여 구비된 제2 전극; 및 상기 제1 전극과 제2 전극 사이에 구비된 1층 또는 2층 이상의 유기물층을 포함하는 유기 발광 소자로서, 상기 유기물층 중 1 층 이상은 청구항 1 내지 5 중 어느 한 항의 화합물을 포함하는 것인 유기 발광 소자.
- 청구항 6에 있어서, 상기 유기물층은 발광층을 포함하고, 상기 발광층은 호스트와 도펀트를 99:1 내지 50:50의 질량비로 포함하는 것인 유기 발광 소자.
- 청구항 6에 있어서, 상기 유기물층은 발광층을 포함하고, 상기 발광층은 상기 화합물을 호스트로 포함하는 것인 유기 발광 소자.
- 청구항 7에 있어서,상기 발광층은 상기 화합물을 인광 호스트로서 포함하는 것인 유기 발광 소자.
- 청구항 7에 있어서,상기 발광층은 상기 화합물을 호스트로서 포함하고, 열 활성화 지연형광 화합물을 도펀트로서 포함하는 것인 유기 발광 소자.
- 청구항 10에 있어서, 상기 도펀트는 최저 여기 삼중항 상태(T1)와 최저 여기 단일항 상태(S1) 사이의 갭(△Est)이 0.2 eV 이하인 열 활성화 지연형광 화합물을 포함하는 것인 유기 발광 소자.
