Definitions

  • This invention relates to an apparatus for bathing an infant, and in particular to an apparatus which increases safety and accessibility when bathing an infant.
  • topping and Tailing requires that the infant be wash in a manner not unlike a sponge bath and requires that the infant is laid down on a safe, secure and comfortable surface while the body of the infant remains covered during the initial stages.
  • the process involved requires the carer to wash the face, neck and hands of the infant first and removing the cover, usually a towel, from the rest of the body to carefully wash the infant’s genitals and bottom.
  • This practice usually involves the surface becoming damp, slippery and uncomfortable resulting in an unhappy baby and stressed carer and therefore an unsafe environment.
  • an apparatus for bathing an infant comprising a first surface configured for receiving and at least partially restricting movement of an infant, and a second surface configured for engagement with at least a portion of an arm and/or hand of a user, the apparatus being holdable and/or placable such that it is at least partially submerged in a volume of bathing water.
  • the infant may be securely retained using one arm of a user, a second arm of the user being free to wash the infant.
