Definitions
- the present invention relates to a phosphor.
- white light emitting diodes have become widespread as alternative light sources for fluorescent lamps and incandescent bulbs. Such white LEDs are also required to have high color rendering properties close to natural light as in the case of conventional light sources.
- the current mainstream white LED is generally a combination of a blue light emitting semiconductor light emitting element and a yellow phosphor.
- the pseudo white color obtained by synthesizing blue light and yellow light has a short red component, and it has been difficult to achieve high color rendering. Therefore, in order to realize high color rendering properties, a white LED using a mixed phosphor in which a red phosphor supplementing a red component is combined with a yellow phosphor (or a green phosphor) has been devised.
- red phosphors having compositions such as CaAlSiN 3 : Eu, (Ca, Sr) AlSiN 3 : Eu, and Ca 2 Si 5 N 8 : Eu have been developed. (See Patent Documents 1 to 3).
- the conventional red phosphors are mainly nitrides including the phosphors having the above composition.
- the synthesis of the nitride phosphor requires a special environment such as a deoxygenated atmosphere and high temperature and pressure, which increases the manufacturing cost.
- the red phosphor described above has an excitation end between 500 and 550 nm. Therefore, when such a red phosphor is used together with a phosphor that emits light of another color in order to realize white light, it absorbs the light emitted by the phosphor of blue, green, yellow, etc. and converts it into red. Resulting in. As a result, it is difficult to adjust the color because the chromaticity may deviate greatly from the desired emission color with respect to slight variations in the phosphor content and the coating form. It also causes a decrease in luminous efficiency.
- the present invention has been made in view of such circumstances, and an object of the present invention is to provide a novel phosphor.
- a phosphor according to an embodiment of the present invention has a perovskite crystal structure in which a light-emitting site is represented by ABX 3 (A and B are cations and X is an anion), and the perovskite crystal structure The luminescent element is located at the B site which is the heart.
- a novel phosphor having a perovskite crystal structure at the light emitting site can be realized.
- X may be composed of two or more anions.
- the electron density related to the bond of the BX 6 octahedron composed of the cation B and the anion X can be made non-uniform.
- the crystal field splitting becomes large, and a phosphor that emits light when excited by relatively low energy light can be realized.
- the anion may be composed of two or more elements selected from the group consisting of oxygen, halogen and nitrogen.
- the anion may be composed of oxygen and fluorine.
- B may be one or more cations selected from the group consisting of Eu 2+ , Ce 3+ , Sm 2+ and Yb 2+ . This facilitates the 4f-5d transition.
- Ionic radius I A cationic positioned at the A site of the perovskite crystal structure is greater than the ionic radius I B cations located at the B site.
- Oxygen as an anion located at the X site of the perovskite crystal structure and MO 4 (M is a trivalent to pentavalent metal element) tetrahedral structure oxygen may be shared.
- a novel phosphor can be provided.

- the phosphor according to the present embodiment is a phosphor that is efficiently excited and emits light by ultraviolet rays or short-wavelength visible light. Specifically, it is a phosphor that exhibits strong excitation with near-ultraviolet light or short-wavelength visible light of 420 nm or less and emits red light with an emission spectrum peak wavelength of 600 nm or more. In addition, the phosphor according to the present embodiment achieves red light emission by doping a host crystal of a halo oxide with an activator such as Eu 2+ ions.
- the phosphor according to the present embodiment is a red phosphor having a large Stokes shift (approximately 0.8 to 1.2 eV). Therefore, visible light emitted from other phosphors such as blue, green, and yellow is difficult to be absorbed.
- the Stokes shift is an energy difference between the excitation edge wavelength and the peak wavelength of the emission spectrum.
- the excitation end wavelength indicates a wavelength at which a decrease in excitation intensity on the long wavelength side in the excitation spectrum starts to rapidly decrease.
- a phosphor corresponding to the light of a semiconductor light emitting device having a high excitation light density needs a fast excitation-emission cycle.
- a 4f-5d permissible transition capable of transition while maintaining the electron spin state is preferable.
- Examples of the element capable of the 4f-5d transition include rare earth elements such as Eu 2+ , Ce 3+ , Sm 2+ , and Yb 2+ .
- the outer shell orbit of these rare earth elements is 6s, and the inner shell has a 4f orbit.
- electrons in the 4f orbit transition to the 5d orbit located in the outer shell, thereby forming an excited state.
- the greater the spread of the electron cloud in the 5d orbit the lower the energy level of this orbit and the higher the transition probability.
- FIG. 1 is a diagram for explaining the mechanism of excitation and emission according to the crystal state. Excitation at low energy requires a complex (or distorted low-symmetry structure) emission site structure or covalent bonding.
- energy of 4.0 eV or more is required for 4f-5d transition in free ions.
- no transition occurs in the light of the semiconductor light emitting element that emits near ultraviolet light or short wavelength visible light having a wavelength of about 380 to 450 nm. Therefore, in order to lower the 4f-5d transition energy, it is effective to dope the crystal and coordinate anions around the rare earth ions.
- the 5d orbital is reduced in energy by two actions (center of gravity shift E c and crystal field splitting E cfs ) due to the coordination of anions.
- Centroid shift E c by anion is coordinated to the rare earth element (cation), due to the influence of the negative charge around the entire five 5d orbitals are low energy reduction.
- the effect is small when the coordinating anion is ionic bond, and increases when the covalent bond is increased.
- the crystal field splitting E cfs is that the degeneration of five 5d orbitals is solved by the three-dimensional structure in which an anion is coordinated with a rare earth element (cation), and the energy level (orbital level) of the 5d orbitals is split.
- the 5d orbit in the direction where there is no anion has little electrostatic repulsion with the anion, and the electron cloud of the 5d orbit tends to spread (the energy level becomes low).
- the direction in which the anions are coordinated increases the electrostatic repulsion and increases the energy level. In other words, a distorted ligand field is required to greatly disrupt the degeneration of the 5d orbital.
- FIG. 2 is a diagram showing an example of an excitation spectrum and an emission spectrum of a general red phosphor based on nitride.
- Red phosphors that have become popular in recent years are phosphors based on nitrides such as CaAlSiN 3 : Eu and Ca 2 Si 5 N 8 : Eu. Since these phosphors increase the center-of-gravity shift by increasing the covalent bond, the excitation band (excitation spectrum) extends to the long wavelength side as shown in FIG. Instead, it absorbs blue, green and yellow visible light.
- FIG. 3 is a schematic diagram for explaining the Stokes shift.
- Stokes shift is caused by relaxation of the crystal structure in the excited state.
- the excited electron orbit approaches the coordination anion.
- the position of the lighter (smaller atomic weight) anion than the cation (rare earth) shifts.
- the crystal structure of the excited state differs from the ground state. After the crystal structure change (relaxation 1) in the excited state occurs, the crystal returns to the ground state, and light emission occurs accordingly.
- FIG. 4 is a schematic diagram showing coordination coordinates.
- the vertical axis of coordination coordinates indicates the energy level of the valence electron of the light emitting element, and the horizontal axis indicates the displacement with the distance between the light emitting element and the anion having the lowest energy level in the ground state of the crystal being zero.
- the 4f electrons of the luminescent element increase in energy level and enter an excited state at the moment when the excitation light is absorbed.
- the excited state relaxation that eliminates electrostatic repulsion with the coordination anion occurs, and the energy level decreases to an equilibrium state. Since light emission starts from that point, an energy transition smaller than the excitation energy and a long wavelength shift occur. At this time, it is the phonon oscillation that must be taken into consideration.
- the phonon vibration increases. In that case, the energy level of the system increases.
- the temperature rises and becomes equal to the vibration level of the ground state due to phonon vibration in the excited state a non-radiative transition occurs. In general, when the Stokes shift becomes large, there is a concern that the temperature characteristic is deteriorated.
- the present inventors have conceived the possibility of a phosphor having a new crystal structure that increases the Stokes shift.
- Excitation / emission of the phosphor is caused by electron orbital transition in the emission center element. Therefore, a light emitting element (for example, Eu 2+ , Ce 3+ ) having a 4f-5d transition with a high transition speed is desirable for a phosphor in a high-intensity light source such as a white LED.
- a light emitting element for example, Eu 2+ , Ce 3+
- electrons in the 4f orbit in the inner shell of the 6s orbit absorb the excitation energy, and transition to the 5d orbit spreading in the outer shell of the 6s orbit.
- Light emission occurs by returning from the 5d orbit to the 4f orbit. Therefore, in order to show a large Stokes shift, it is important that the spread of the 5d orbit in the excited state becomes large.
- the spread of the 5d orbit is determined by the crystal structure around the light emitting element. Therefore, the inventors of the present application devised a crystal structure that increases the 5d orbital spread.
- FIG. 5 is a diagram showing a perovskite crystal structure.
- the perovskite crystal represented by the composition formula ABX 3 ideally has a cubic unit cell, with metal A at each vertex (A site) of the cubic crystal and metal B at the body center site (B site). However, an anion X is arranged at each face center site (X site) of the cubic crystal. In addition, six anions X coordinate with metal B to form a BX 6 octahedron.
- a light emitting element that makes a 4f-5d transition is located at the B site.
- the phosphor according to the present embodiment is a novel phosphor having a perovskite crystal structure at the light emitting site.
- the anion X forming the BX 6 octahedron may be composed of two or more types of anions. Specifically, one of the anions X is oxygen. Another kind of anion X is halogen. Of the halogens, fluorine is particularly preferred. As another form, another anion X other than oxygen may be nitrogen.
- the A site according to the present embodiment is occupied by monovalent or divalent cations having a large ionic radius.
- Ionic radius I A cationic positioned at the A site is greater than the ionic radius I B of the light emitting element positioned at a B-site.
- the ion radius I A may be greater than 10% than the ionic radius I B.
- the cation occupying the A site may be composed of a monovalent cation, may be composed of a divalent cation, or may be composed of both.
- the phosphor according to the present embodiment configured as described above can be excited with low energy and has a large Stokes shift.
- FIG. 6A is a diagram schematically illustrating a hexacoordinate BX 6 octahedron
- FIG. 6B is a diagram for explaining an energy state of a 5d orbit in hexacoordinate.
- a mixed ligand plural kinds of ligands
- a general perovskite structure is represented by ABO 3 , and six oxygen ions are coordinated to the B site. Therefore, the B site has strong ion binding properties, high symmetry, and little distortion of the ligand field. For this reason, excitation is difficult with a small energy such as light having a wavelength (380 to 450 nm) of a semiconductor light emitting element used in a white LED.
- two or more kinds of anions X are coordinated to the B site of the light emitting site, thereby making the electron density related to the bond of the BX 6 octahedron nonuniform.
- the crystal field splitting increases, and the excitation band decreases to the energy level excited by the light emission (low energy) of the semiconductor light emitting device used in the white LED.
- the energy level of t 2 g orbit than e g orbitals decreases. Even in the t 2g orbit, the energy level in the d xz and d yz directions where the density of the anion X is low decreases.
- FIG. 7 is a diagram schematically showing the spread of the split orbit.
- the split d xz and d yz orbits extend in the direction of the A site located at each vertex of the cubic crystal.
- the cation at the A site is positively charged.
- the electrons in the d xz and d yz orbits spreading from the B site are attracted to the A site (the cations on the A site are not attracted by electrostatic attraction because of their large ionic radius and mass).
- the phosphor according to the present embodiment exhibits stable temperature characteristics despite a large Stokes shift.
- the first phosphor for example, red phosphor
- the second phosphor that emits fluorescence having a color different from that of the first phosphor (for example, blue phosphor, green phosphor, yellow fluorescence).
- a semiconductor light-emitting element that emits light that excites the first phosphor and the second phosphor have the following effects.
- the first phosphor according to the present embodiment since there is almost no absorption of the first phosphor according to the present embodiment in a wavelength range longer than the emission wavelength of the semiconductor light emitting element, when mixed with the second phosphor of other emission color, Misalignment is less likely to occur. Second, since the first phosphor according to the present embodiment does not cause relaxation of the excited state due to the movement of the anion, the temperature characteristic is small despite the fact that the crystal structure change due to excitation is small and the Stokes shift is large. It becomes good.
- Example 1 In the phosphor according to Example 1, the elements constituting the crystal structure ABX 3 of the light emitting site are: The cation A is K + , the cation B is Eu 2+ , and the anion X is O 2 ⁇ and F ⁇ . In addition to Eu 2+ , Ce 3+ , Sm 2+ , Yb 2+, etc. may be added as the cation B. This facilitates the 4f-5d transition. Further, the cation M constituting the tetrahedron MO 4 that connects the perovskite structures of the light emitting sites is P 5+ . M may be a trivalent to pentavalent metal element.
- FIG. 8 is a diagram showing an X-ray diffraction pattern of the phosphor according to Example 1.

- the above-mentioned crystal is a crystal having a new structure that is not registered in ICDD (International Center for Diffraction Date), which is an X-ray diffraction database widely used for X-ray diffraction.
- ICDD International Center for Diffraction Date
- the phosphor of Example 1 contains oxygen and fluorine in the anion.
- Oxygen and fluorine are elements that are adjacent to each other in the periodic table, and it is difficult to specify their occupied positions only from X-ray diffraction data.
- solid NMR measurement of the sample according to Example 1 was performed.
- solid-state NMR the bonding state of an element having a spin quantum number of 1/2 can be grasped, and the bonding relationship between 19 F and 31 P can be examined.
- the measurement was performed using JNM-ECZ500R (manufactured by JEOL Ltd.) having a magnetic field intensity of 11.7 T (500 MHz).
- a sample of about 50 ⁇ L was packed in a 3.2 mm measurement probe and measured at room temperature (about 23 ° C.).
- FIG. 9 is a diagram showing the result of the resonance spectrum measured without decoupling. As shown in FIG. 9, resonance spectra were confirmed at 0.64 ppm and 0.76 ppm. Next, a radio wave (470.6 MHz) corresponding to a 19 F magnetorotation ratio was irradiated to eliminate the PF interaction, and decoupling measurement was performed.
- FIG. 10 is a diagram showing the result of a resonance spectrum obtained by decoupling measurement after eliminating the PF interaction. As shown in FIG. 10, the resonance spectrum changed to a single broad signal. This result indicates that F has some interference with the atomic vibration of P, but it has not been possible to determine the presence or absence of coupling.
- FIG. 11 is a diagram showing the results of 31 P ⁇ 19 F ⁇ CP-CPMAS measurement. As shown in FIG. 11, even when the contact time was extended to 20000 ⁇ s, the maximum value of the signal intensity did not appear, and the signal intensity increased monotonously with the elapse of the contact time. This shows that fluorine is in the vicinity of phosphorus, but fluorine and phosphorus are not directly bonded.
- Phosphorus has a tetragonal coordination structure. From the results of the above-mentioned solid-state NMR, it was determined that four oxygens were coordinated with phosphorus. Therefore, in the structural analysis performed based on the X-ray diffraction data of Example 1, the structural analysis was performed assuming that it exists in the crystal in the form of (PO 4 ) 3 ⁇ .
- Table 1 shows the relationship between each element and atomic coordinates.
- FIG. 12 is a schematic diagram showing the crystal structure of the phosphor according to the present embodiment.
- the occupied position of the light emitting element Eu 2+ is the Ca site (see Table 1). Note that the crystal structure shown in FIG. 12 shows a case when viewed from the b-axis direction.
- FIG. 13 is a diagram for explaining a crystal structure of a light emitting site.
- the Eu 2+ site has an octahedral structure in which six anions are coordinated.
- the breakdown of anions is 4 oxygen ions and 2 fluorine ions.
- the structure of octahedral EuO 4 F 2 has a cis-type structure in which two fluorine ions are adjacent to each other.
- Fluoride ion octahedra EuO 4 F 2 is the b-axis direction of the crystal are aligned in a straight line, and connect the octahedral EuO 4 F 2 together in the form of corner sharing octahedra EuO 4 F 2.
- the octahedron EuO 4 F 2 is connected in a zigzag manner in the b-axis direction around the fluorine ion (see FIG. 14).
- Each oxygen ion of the octahedron EuO 4 F 2 shares a vertex with the PO 4 tetrahedron.
- FIG. 14 is a schematic view of the crystal structure of the phosphor shown in FIG. 12 viewed from another direction.
- octahedral EuO 4 F 2 is arranged in a staggered pattern by fluorine ions and PO 4 tetrahedron. Yes. Potassium ions are lined up so as to fill the space between the staggered lattices of octahedron EuO 4 F 2 .
- a perovskite structure represented by a composition formula ABX 3 is formed.
- FIG. 15 is a diagram showing a light emitting site having a perovskite crystal structure according to the present embodiment.
- the eight potassium ions are located at the apex of the cubic lattice (A site).
- Oxygen ions and fluorine ions as anions of the octahedral EuO 4 F 2 are located at the face center of the cubic lattice formed by potassium.
- Europium (or calcium) ions are located at the center of the cubic lattice (B site).
- the ionic radius of 1.51 ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ of potassium ions (K + ) occupying the A site is 29% larger than the ionic radius of 1.17 ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ of europium ions (Eu 2+ ) occupying the B site.
- the electron density of cis-type octahedron EuO 4 F 2 centering on divalent europium ions is biased toward the fluorine side with high electronegativity. Therefore, since the symmetry of the octahedral electron distribution is lost, the degeneracy of the 5d orbit of the divalent europium ion can be solved. As a result, valence electrons in the inner shell 4f orbit of divalent europium are likely to transition to the d xz or d yz orbit of the 5d orbit even at low energy.
- the direction of the d xz or d yz orbit is the apex direction of the cubic lattice constituting the perovskite structure.
- the position is occupied by a cation K + having a large ion radius.
- an electrostatic attractive force is generated between the electron cloud of Eu 2+ 5d electrons (d xz or d yz orbit) and the cation K + .
- the mass of K + ions is large and difficult to move, the spread of the d xz or d yz orbital electron cloud increases.
- the existence probability of electrons in the d xz or d yz orbit is increased and the energy level is decreased, and thus a large Stokes shift is exhibited.

Abstract
Description

空間群:P21/m
a=7.3161(4)Å
b=5.8560(6)Å

c=12.6434(1)Å

上記解析の結果、前述の結晶は、X線回折に広く用いられるX線回折データベースであるICDD(International Center for Diffraction Date)に登録されていない新規構造の結晶であることが判明した。
測定は、磁場強度11.7T(500MHz)のJNM-ECZ500R(日本電子製)を用い行った。
はじめに31PのDD-MAS(Dipolar Decoupling - Magic Angle Spinning)測定を行った。
次に、31P{19F}CP-CPMAS(Cross Polarization - Magic Angle Spinning)測定を行った。
