첨가함으로써 전해질의 물성에 큰 영향을 끼치지 않으면서 리튬 이차 전지의 성능을 향상시키는 방법이 주목 받고 있다. 소량 첨가하는 전해질 첨가제는 여러 가지 기능을 가지고 있으며, 그 기능에 따라 음극용 첨가제와 양극용 첨가제로 나뉜다. 상기 전해질 첨가제는 보통 전극 활물질과 전해질의 직접적인 접촉을 막는 피막 (Sol id electrolyte Interface ; SEI )을 형성하는 역할을 한다. 전극 표면에 피막을 형성하는 첨가제는 혹연 표면에 SEI 형성에 도움을 주는 음극용 첨가제와, 양극 표면에 두꺼운 피막을 형성하는 과충전방지제 (Over Charge
Protect ion ; 0CP) 두 가지로 나뉠 수 있다.
최근 전기자동차 등에 사용되는 고에너지 밀도의 리튬 이차 전지에 대한 요구가 늘어나면서 고전압 양극 활물질에 대한 연구가 진행되고 있다. 그러나 고전압 양극 활물질과 전해질과의 계면에서 일어나는 전해액 산화를 막기 위한 전해질 첨가제에 대한 연구는 아직 미미한 실정이다.
일반적으로 전해질의 전위창 (potent i al window)은 양극 활물질과 음극 활물질간의 전위차보다 넓어야 활물질 계면에서 전해액과의 반웅을 억제할 수 있다. 그러나 전지의 에너지 밀도를 높이기 위해 고전압용 양극활물질을 사용하면서 전해질의 전위창이 활물질의 전위창보다 좁아지게 되었다. 결과적으로 전해질과
전극 활물질의 직접적인 접촉을 방지하는 보호막을 형성하여야 전해질의 분해를 억제할 수 있으며, 이를 통해 장시간사이클 동안 용량을 유지할 수 있게 된다. 전지가 고용량 고전압화 됨에 따라 열적인 내구성은 전지의 안전성에 매우 중요하며, 따라서 첨가제를 사용하여 전지의 발화 시점을 늦추거나, 전지의 두께 변화를 줄이는 등의 전지의 열적인 내구성을 개선하여 전지의 안전성을 꾀하고자 하는 노력은 계속되고 있고 있다.
그러나 고온 성능을 향상시키는 기존의 참가제는 피막 저항 증가로 리튬 이온의 전도도에 영향을 미쳐 용량 저하 및 수명 특성 등을 저하시키는 문제점이 있다.
【발명의 상세한 설명】
【기술적 과제】
고전압 리튬 이차 전지의 전해액에서 충전 중 양극에 안정적인 전도성 고분자 피막을 형성하여 양극과 전해액 계면 반웅을 억제하여 리튬 이온의 입출입을 용이하게 하는 리튬 이차 전지용 전해액을 제공하고, 고온 조건에서 가스 발생이 억제되는 등 전지의 고온 보존 특성이 우수하고 수명 특성의 저하 없이 고전압 고온 보존 용량 및 스웰링 방지 특성이 향상된 리튬 이차 전지를 제공한다. 【기술적 해결방법】
본 발명의 일 구현예에서는 유기 용매, 리튬염, 및 하기 화학식 1의 화합물을 포함하고, 하기 화학식 1의 화합물은 0.001 중량 % 이상 0. 1 중량 % 미만으로 포함되는 리튬 이차 전지용 전해질을 제공한다.

제시되는 것으로, 이에 의해 본 발명이 제한되지는 않으며 본 발명은 후술할 청구범위의 범주에 의해 정의될 뿐이다.
본 발명의 일 구현예에서는 유기 용매, 리튬염, 및 하기 화학식 1의 화합물을 포함하는 전해질로, 하기 화학식 1의 화합물은 0.001 중량 % 이상 0. 1 중량 ¾> 미만으로 포함되는 리튬 이차 전지용 전해질을 제공한다.

상기 화학식 1에서 n은 3 내지 10의 정수 중 어느 하나이다.
상기 화학식 1의 화합물은 양극 활물질에 산화 피막을 형성하는 전도성 물질로, 삼합체 이상의 티오펜 중합체이다. 이는 티오펜 단량체나 티오펜 이합체에 비하여 높은 HOMO 값을 가져 층전 중 양극 활물질에 비교적 낮은 전위에서 안정적인 산화 피막을 형성할 수 있고 리튬 이온의 이동을 더욱 용이하게 할 수 있다. 상기 전해질은 통상의 니트릴계 첨가제를 사용하는 전해질에 비하여 방전 용량 저하나 수명 저하 등의 문제 없이 고전압 고온 방치 스웰링을 억제하는 데 탁월한 성능을 구현할 수 있다.
상기 화학식 1에서 n은 3 내지 10의 정수 중 어느 하나이고, 예를 들어 n은 3 내지 9의 정수 중 하나, 3 내지 8의 정수 중 하나, 3 내지 7의 정수 중 하나, 3 내지 6의 정수 중 하나, 또는 3 내지 5의 정수 중 하나일 수 있다.

상기 유기 용매는 비수성 유기 용매로, 카보네이트계 용매, 에스테르계 용매, 에테르계 용매, 케톤계 용매, 알코올계 용매, 또는 비양성자성 용매를 포함할 수 있다.
상기 카보네이트계 용매로는 디메틸 카보네이트 (DMC), 디에틸
카보네이트 (DEC), 디프로필 카보네이트 (DPC), 메틸프로필 카보네이트 (MPC), 에틸프로필 카보네이트 (EPC), 메틸에틸 카보네이트 (MEC), 에틸렌 카보네이트 (EC), 프로필렌 카보네이트 (PC), 부틸렌 카보네이트 (BC) 등이 사용될 수 있다.
상기 에스테르계 용매는 메틸 아세테이트, 에틸 아세테이트, n-프로필 아세테이트, 디메틸아세테이트, 메틸프로피오네이트, 에틸프로피오네이트,
데카놀라이드 ( decano lide), 메발로노락톤 (meva 1 ono lact one ),
카프로락톤 (caprolactone) 등일 수 있다.
상기 에테르계 용매는 디부틸 에테르, 테트라글라임, 디글라임,
디메록시에탄, 2-메틸테트라히드로퓨란, 테트라히드로퓨란 등일 수 있다. 상기 케톤계 용매로는 시클로핵사논 등이 사용될 수 있다. 또한 상기 알코올계 용매로는 에틸알코올, 이소프로필 알코올 등이 사용될 수 있으며, 상기 비양성자성 용매로는 니트릴류, 디메틸포름아미드 등의 아미드류, 1,3—디옥솔란 등의 디옥솔란류, 설포란 (sulfolane)류 등이 사용될 수 있다.
상기 유기 용매는 단독으로 또는 둘 이상 흔합하여 사용할 수 있으며, 둘 이상 흔합하여 사용하는 경우의 흔합 비율은 목적하는 전지 성능에 따라 적절하게 조절할 수 있다.
또한, 상기 카보네이트계 용매의 경우 환형 (cyclic) 카보네이트와
사슬형 (chain) 카보네이트를 흔합하여 사용할 수 있다. 이 경우 환형
카보네이트와사슬형 카보네이트는 1:1 내지 1:9의 부피비로 흔합하여 사용될 수 있다.
상기 유기 용매는 상기 카보네이트계 용매에 방향족 탄화수소계 유기용매를 더 포함할 수도 있다. 이때 상기 카보네이트계 용매와 방향족 탄화수소계
유기용매는 1:1 내지 30:1의 부피비로 흔합될 수 있다. 상기 방향족 탄화수소계

상기 리튬 이차 전지용 전해질은 전지 수명을 향상시키기 위하여 비닐렌 카보네이트 또는 에틸렌계 카보네이트 화합물을 더욱 포함할 수도 있다. 상기 에틸렌계 카보네이트 화합물의 대표적인 예로는 디플루오로 에틸렌카보네이트, 클로로에틸렌 카보네이트, 디클로로에틸렌 카보네이트, 브로모에틸렌 카보네이트, 디브로모에틸렌 카보네이트, 니트로에틸렌 카보네이트, 시아노에틸렌 카보네이트 또는 플루오로에틸렌 카보네이트 등을 들 수 있다.
상기 리튬염은 유기 용매에 용해되어 리튬 이온의 공급원으로 작용하여 기본적인 리튬 이차 전지의 작동을 가능하게 하고, 양극과 음극 사이의 리튬 이온의 이동을 촉진하는 역할을 한다.
상기 리튬염의 예로는 LiPF6) LiBF4) LiSbF6, LiAsF6> LiN(S02C2F5)2,
Li(CF3S02)2N, LiN(S03C2F5)2, LiC4F9S03, LiC104, LiA102ᅳ LiAlCl4,

일 구현예에 따른 전해질은 4.35V 이상, 특히 4.4V의 고전압에서 작동하는 전지에 유용하게 사용될 수 있다. 일반적으로 4.35V 이상의 고전압용 전지인 경우, 활물질과 전해질과의 반웅에 의한 가스가 보다 활발하게 발생되나, 전술한
전해질은 고전압 전지에서도 가스 발생을 효과적으로 억제하여 전지의 수명 특성 등을 향상시킬 수 있다.
다른 일 구현예는 양극 활물질을 포함하는 양극, 음극 활물질을 포함하는 음극, 및 전술한 전해질을 포함하는 리튬 이차 전지를 제공한다.
상기 리튬 이차 전지는 세퍼레이터와 전해질의 종류에 따라 리튬 이온 전지, 리튬 이온 폴리머 전지, 및 리튬 폴리머 전지 등으로로 분류될 수 있다. 상기 리튬 이차 전지는 원통형, 각형, 코인형, 파우치형 등일 수 있으며, 벌크 타입과 박막 타입 등 어떠한 형태도 가능하다.
도 1은 일 구현예에 따른 각형의 리튬 이차 전지의 분해 사시도이다. 도 1을 참고하면, 리튬 이차 전지 ( 100)는 양극 ( 10)과 음극 (20) 사이에
세퍼레이터 (30)를 개재하여 권취된 전극 조립체 (40)와, 상기 전극 조립체 (40)가 내장되는 케이스 (50)를 포함할 수 있다. 상기 양극 ( 10), 상기 음극 (20) 및 상기 세퍼레이터 (30)는 전해액 (미도시 )에 함침되어 있을 수 있다.
상기 양극 ( 10)은 전류 집전체 및 이 전류 집전체에 형성된 양극 활물질층을 포함한다. 상기 양극 활물질층은 양극 활물질, 바인더 및 선택적으로 도전재를 포함한다.
상기 양극 활물질로는 리튬의 가역적인 인터칼레이션 및 디인터칼레이션이 가능한 화합물을 사용할 수 있다. 구체적으로 코발트, 망간, 니켈, 알루미늄, 철 또는 이들의 조합의 금속과 리튬과의 복합 산화물 또는 복합 인산화물 중에서 1종 이상을 사용할 수 있다. 더욱 구체적으로, 리튬 코발트 산화물, 리륨 니켈 산화물, 리튬 망간 산화물, 리튬 니켈 코발트 망간 산화물, 리튬 니켈 코발트 알루미늄 산화물, 리튬 철 인산화물 또는 이들의 조합을 사용할 수 있다.
상기 바인더는 양극 활물질 입자들을 서로 부착시키고, 양극 활물질을 전류 집전체에 부착시키는 역할을 한다. 상기 바인더는 예를 들어 폴리비닐알콜,
카르복시메틸샐를로즈, 히드록시프로필셀를로즈 , 디아세틸셀를로즈,

폴리테트라플루오로에틸렌, 폴리비닐리덴 플루오라이드, 폴리에틸렌, 폴리프로필렌, 스티렌-부타디엔 러버, 아크릴레이티드 스티렌-부타디엔 러버, 에폭시 수지, 나일론 등일 수 있으나, 이에 한정되는 것은 아니다.
상기 도전재는 전극에 도전성을 부여하기 위해 사용되는 것으로, 화학변화를 야기하지 않고 전자 전도성 재료이면 어떠한 것도 사용가능하다. 상기 도전재는 예를들어 천연 흑연, 인조 혹연, 카본 블랙, 아세틸렌 블랙, 케첸블랙, 탄소섬유 등의 탄소계 물질일 수 있고, 구리, 니켈, 알루미늄, 은 등의 금속계 물질, 폴리페닐렌 유도체 등의 도전성 폴리머, 또는 이들의 조합일 수 있다.
상기 전류 집전체로는 알루미늄을 사용할 수 있으나 이에 한정되는 것은 아니다.
상기 음극 (20)은 전류 집전체 및 전류 집전체 위에 형성된 음극 활물질층을 포함하고, 상기 음극 활물질층은 음극 활물질, 바인더, 및 선택적으로 도전재를 포함한다.
상기 음극 활물질은 리튬 이온을 가역적으로 인터칼레이션 /디인터칼레이션할 수 있는 물질, 리튬 금속, 리튬 금속의 합금, 리튬에 도프 및 탈도프 가능한 물질 또는 전이 금속 산화물 등일 수 있다.
상기 리튬 이온을 가역적으로 인터칼레이션 /디인터칼레이션할 수 있는 물질은 탄소계 물질로, 결정질 탄소, 비정질 탄소 또는 이들을 함께 사용할 수 있다. 상기 결정질 탄소의 예로는 무정형, 판상, 린편상 (f lake) , 구형 또는
섬유형의 흑연을 들 수 있고, 천연 흑연 또는 인조 흑연일 수 있다. 상기 비정질 탄소의 예로는 소프트 카본 또는 하드 카본, 메조페이스 피치 탄화물, 소성된 코크스 등을 들 수 있다.
상기 리튬 금속의 합금으로는 리튬과 Na, K, Rb, Cs , Fr , Be , Mg, Ca, Sr , Si , Sb, Pb, In, Zn, Ba, Ra, Ge , Al 및 Sn으로 이루어진 군에서 선택되는 금속의 합금이 사용될 수 있다.
상기 리튬에 도프 및 탈도프 가능한 물질로는 Si , Si-C 복합체, SiOx(0 < X
< 2), Si-Q 합금 (상기 Q는 알칼리 금속, 알칼리 토금속, 13족 원소, 14족 원소, 15족 원소, 16족 원소, 전이금속, 희토류 원소 및 이들의 조합으로 이루어진 군에서 선택되는 원소이며, Si은 아님) , Sn, Sn02, Sn-R (상기 R은 알칼리 금속, 알칼리 토금속, 13족 원소, 14족 원소, 15족 원소, 16족 원소, 이금속, 희토류 원소 및 이들의 조합으로 이루어진 군에서 선택되는 원소이며, Sn은 아님) 등을 들 수 있고, 또한 이들 중 적어도 하나와 Si02를 흔합하여 사용할 수도 있다. 상기 원소 Q 및 R로는 Mg, Ca, Sr , Ba, Ra, Sc , Y, Ti , Zr , Hf , Rf , V, Nb, Ta, Db , Cr , Mo , W, Sg, Tc , Re , Bh, Fe, Pb , Ru, 0s , Hs , Rh, Ir , Pd, Pt , Cu, Ag, Au, Zn, Cd B, Al , Ga, Sn, In, Tl , Ge , P, As , Sb, Bi , S, Se , Te Po , 및 이들의 조합으로 이루어진 군에서 선택되는 것을 사용할 수 있다.

상기 바인더는 음극 활물질 입자들을 서로 부착시키고, 음극 활물질을 전류 집전체에 부착시키는 역할을 한다. 상기 바인더로는 비수용성 바인더, 수용성 바인더 또는 이들의 조합을 사용할 수 있다.
상기 비수용성 바인더로는 폴리비닐클로라이드, 카르복실화된

양극으로 LiCo02를 사용하고 음극으로 인조 혹연을 사용하고, 전해질로는 에틸렌 카보네이트, 디에틸 카보네이트 및 에틸프로피오네이트를 3 : 5 : 2의 부피 비율로 흔합한 용매에, 터티오펜 0.01 중량 %, 및 리륨염 LiPF6 1. 15M을 첨가한 것을 사용하여, 4.4V의 셀을 제조하였다.
실시예 2
전해질에서 터티오펜을 0.02 중량 %사용한 것을 제외하고는 실시예 1과 동일한 방법으로 샐을 제조하였다.
실시예 3
전해질에서 터티오펜을 0.08 중량 %사용한 것을 제외하고는 실시예 1과 동일한 방법으로 셀을 제조하였다.
비교예 1
전해질에서 터티오펜을 사용하지 않은 것을 제외하고는 실시예 1과 동일한 방법으로 셀을 제조하였다.
비교예 2
전해질에서 터티오펜을 사용하지 않고, 아디포니트릴 (adiponi tri le ; 細) 1 중량 %를 사용한 것을 제외하고는 실시예 1과 동일한 방법으로 셀을 제조하였다.
비교예 3
전해질에서 터티오펜을 0.10 중량 %사용한 '것을 제외하고는 실시예 1과 동일한 방법으로 셀을 제조하였다.
비교예 4
전해질에서 터티오펜을 사용하지 않고, 바이티오펜 (티오펜의 이합체)을 0.01 중량 %사용한 것을 제외하고는 실시예 1과 동일한 방법으로 셀을 제조하였다.
평가 1: 선형주사전위법 (Linear Sweep Voltammetry; LSV) 평가
실시예 1 내지 3, 및 비교예 1 내지 4에서 제조한 전해질에 대해 Pt 전극을 이용하여 LSV를 측정하였으며, 그 결과를 도 2에 나타내었다. 속도는 1 mV/sec , 전압 범위는 3V 내지 7V이다.
도 2을 참고하면, 실시예 1 내지 3의 경우 4.2V부근에서 산화 분해가 발생하는 것을 확인할 수 있으며, 6.5V 이상의 고전압에서는 산화 분해가 오히려 억제되는 것을 알 수 있다. 전극 표면에 터티오펜의 분해 피막이 안정적으로 형성되어 전해액 분해 반응을 억제하는 것으로 보인다. 반면, 비교예 3의 경우 터티오펜 자체 산화 분해로 인해 오히려 높은 전압에서 산화 전류가 많이 발생하는 것을 확인할 수 있다.
한편, 비교예 4의 경우 바이티오펜이 셀 조립 공정에서 층분히 분해되지 않고 남아 있을 가능성이 있기 때문에 고온 저장 중이나 사이클 진행 중에 분해되어 샐 성능에 악영향을 마칠 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.
평가 2: 계면 저항 평가
실시예 1 내지 3, 및 비교예 1 내지 4에서 제조한 4.4V각형 셀에 대하여 초기 만층 상태에서 AC-임피던스를 측정하여, 그 결과를 도 3에 나타내었다.
주파수 영역은 0.01 내지 100, 000 Hz로 하고, AC-진폭은 5mV로 하여 상온에서 임피던스를 측정하였다.
도 3을 참고하면, 고온 첨가제가 없는 비교예 1의 경우가 계면 저항이 가장 낮으며, 비교예 2와 같이 일반적인 니트릴계 첨가제를 사용한 경우는 계면 저항이
10% 이상 증가하는 것을 확인할 수 있다. 반면 터티오펜을 일정 함량 포함된 실시예 1 내지 3의 경우 계면 저항 변화가 크지 않음을 알 수 있다. 터티오펜이 과량사용된 비교예 3과 바이티오펜이 사용된 비교예 4의 경우 계면 저항이 크게 증가한다는 것을 확인할 수 있고, 이 경우 계명 저항 상승으로 인해 고율 용량 저하 및 수명 열화 등의 문제점이 발생할 것으로 생각된다.
평가 3 : 601C 저장시 셀두께 변화 및 용량 변화평가
실시예 1 내지 3, 및 비교예 1 내지 4에서 제조한 셀올 60 °C에서 21일 동안 방치하면서 두께 변화 및 회복 용량을 측정하여, 그 결과를 아래 표 1 및 도 4와 도 5에 나타내었다. 도 4는 각 셀의 시간에 따른 두께 변화율을 나타낸 그래프이고, 도 5는 각 샐에 따른 용량 유지율, 용량 회복율, 및 두께 변화율을 나타낸
그래프이다.

상기 표 1 및 도 4와 도 5를 참고하면, 실시예 1 내지 3의 경우 두께
변화율이 30% 이하로, 비교예 1 내지 4에 비해 두께가 증가하는 현상이 효과적으로 억제되었음을 확인할 수 있다. 또한, 실시예 1 내지 3의 경우 용량 유지율이 60% 이상이고, 용량 회복율이 69% 이상으로 측정되었는바, 비교예 1 내지 4에 비하여 용량 유지율 및 용량 회복율이 개선되었음올 알 수 있다.
평가 4: 상은수명 특성 평가
실시예 1 내지 3 및 비교예 1 내지 4에서 제조한 4.4V각형 셀에 대하여 상온에서 200사이클 동안의 용량 유지 변화를 측정하여 아래 표 2 및 도 6에
나타내었다.

상기 표 2 및 도 6을 참고하면, 실시예 1 내지 3의 경우 상온에서 200 사이클 이후의 용량 유지율이 88% 이상으로, 비교예 1 내지 4에 비하여 상은 수명 특성이 더욱 우수하다는 것을 확인할 수 있다.
평가 5: 고은수명 특성 평가
실시예 1 내지 3 및 비교예 1 내지 4에서 제조한 4.4V 각형 셀에 대하여 45°C에서 200 사이클 동안의 용량 유지 변화를 측정하여 아래 표 3 및 도 7에 나타내었다.

상기 표 3 및 도 7을 참고하면, 실시예 1 내지 3의 경우 45°C에서 200 사이클 이후의 용량 유지율이 80% 이상으로, 니트릴계 고온 첨가제를 포함한 비교예 2나 터티오펜이 과량 첨가된 비교예 3, 또는 바이티오펜이 첨가된 비교예 4 등에 비하여 고온 수명 특성이 더욱 우수하다는 것을 확인할 수 있다.
본 발명은 상기 실시예들에 한정되는 것이 아니라 서로 다른 다양한 형태로 제조될 수 있으며, 본 발명이 속하는 기술분야에서 통상의 지식을 가진 자는 본 발명의 기술적 사상이나 필수적인 특징을 변경하지 않고서 다른 구체적인 형태로 실시될 수 있다는 것을 이해할 수 있을 것이다. 그러므로 이상에서 기술한 실시예들은 모든 면에서 예시적인 것이며 한정적이 아닌 것으로 이해해야만 한다.
