- the magnetic flux in the x direction that is, the magnetic flux detected by the Hall elements 11 x1 and 11 x2 will be described as a representative, but the same applies to the y direction.
- the parallel component B // is induced by the magnetic concentrator 12 to convert the magnitude of the magnetic flux density into a vertical component B ⁇ ⁇ proportional to the parallel component B //, and a pair of Hall elements 11 x1. And 11 x2 .
- B Z is a vertical component is also measured by the Hall element 11 x1 and 11 x2 pair.
- the Hall element 11 x1 on the left side of the drawing measures “B ⁇ -B Z ”, while the Hall element 11 x2 on the right side of the drawing measures “ ⁇ B ⁇ -B Z ”.
- 11 y1 and 11 y2 are similarly measured in the Y direction.
- the sensor 1 has a difference between the output of the Hall element 11 x1 and the output of the Hall element 11 x2 (hereinafter referred to as 2B x ⁇ ) and a difference between the output of the Hall element 11 y1 and the output of the Hall element 11 y2 ( hereinafter, it is assumed that outputs to.) and 2B Y ⁇ , detects the rotation of the gear 3 by the B X ⁇ and B Y ⁇ .
- FIG. 4 is a schematic diagram showing the state of the magnetic field formed by the magnet 2.
- FIG. 5 is a graph showing an example of a change in the signal output from the sensor 1 as the gear teeth pass.
- the distance between the tooth tip and the tooth bottom is constant with respect to the rotation angle
- the distance between the tooth tip 30h and the tooth bottom 30l is the rotation angle. This is a case where a non-constant gear 30 is used.
- the reason for using the example shown in FIG. 5 is to show that although the output signal varies depending on the interval between the tooth tip 30h and the tooth bottom 30l, the characteristics of the output signal are unchanged.
- the output signal level of the sensor 1 is maximum at the timing when the tooth passes over the sensor 1 and changes from the tooth bottom 30 l to the tooth tip 30 h as the gear 30 rotates. Become. Further, the output signal level of the sensor 1 is minimized at the timing when the tooth tip 30h changes to the tooth bottom 30l. Therefore, a value smaller than the smallest absolute value among the plurality of maximum values and minimum values is defined as the positive and negative thresholds Th x and ⁇ Th x, and the number of output signals of the sensor 1 exceeding the respective threshold values positive and negative respectively. By counting, the rotation speed and angular velocity of the gear 3 can be calculated. Furthermore, even when the tooth interval is not constant, the tooth edge of the gear 30 (the boundary between the tooth bottom 30l and the tooth tip 30h) can be detected.
- the same behavior is detected for the y component of the magnetic flux density detected by the sensor 1, and the rotational speed and angular velocity of the gear 30 can be calculated.
- the z component output signal obtained by the conventional differential method is shown for comparison, but it can be seen that the dynamic range of the x component can be larger than this signal.
- the z component output signal obtained by the differential method has a tooth shape formed at a right angle, and the dynamic range is further reduced when the tooth shape is angled or formed by a curved surface.
- B x // is converted into B x ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ by the magnetic concentrator 12 and B x ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ is output by the difference between the pair of Hall elements 11 x1 and 11 x2.
- the B x // which changes with the rotation of the gear 3 can be detected by the sensor 1, therefore the sensor spacing between the Hall element 11 x1 and 11 x2
- the sensor IC can be downsized as compared with the conventional one.
- the distance between the Hall elements 11 x1 and 11 x2 can be reduced to about 0.2 mm. Further, the interval may be further narrowed.
- the magnetic concentrator 12 since B x // is converted into B x ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ by the magnetic concentrator 12 and B x ⁇ is output by the difference between the pair of Hall elements 11 x1 and 11 x2 , the magnetic concentrator 12 generates a magnetic flux. Since the magnetic flux is collected, the dynamic range is improved as compared with the case where the z component of the magnetic flux density is detected by a single Hall element having a detection direction in the z direction (the Hall element is in the z direction when the magnetic concentrator 12 is not provided). The signal output by detecting the magnetic flux density is smaller than the z component signal shown in FIG. Therefore, the dynamic range is improved, as compared with the sensor using the conventional Hall element, it is possible to increase the air gap D g between the gear 3, thereby improving the degree of freedom of coupled arrangement with the effect of downsizing .
- the distance d s between the Hall elements 11 x1 and 11 x2 can be reduced, the size of the substrate 10 can be reduced. Therefore, since the number of chips that can be taken out from one wafer at the time of manufacture can be increased, the manufacturing cost of the sensor can be suppressed.
- the second embodiment differs from the first embodiment in that a sensor 1a in which the arrangement of the magnetic detection elements and the magnetic concentrator is changed instead of the sensor 1 of the first embodiment.
- a sensor 1a in which the arrangement of the magnetic detection elements and the magnetic concentrator is changed instead of the sensor 1 of the first embodiment.
- the same reference numerals are used for the configurations common to the first embodiment.
- 6A and 6B are a perspective view and a cross-sectional view showing a configuration example of a sensor of the rotation detection device according to the second embodiment.
- the senor 1a has, for example, a flat plate shape having a thickness in the z direction, a detection surface parallel to the xy plane, and the detection direction as a magnetic detection element is the z direction.
- a magnetic concentrator 12a 2 that is provided so as to partially overlap the Hall elements 112 and 114, converts the magnetic flux in the x direction into the z direction, and detects the Hall elements 112 and 114, and in the x and z directions
- the sensor 1a is, for example, a Melexis Hall latch & switch sensor, and the magnetic flux density in the x and y directions is obtained by taking the difference in output between the Hall elements 111 and 112 and the difference in output between the Hall elements 113 and 114. An output proportional to can be obtained.
- the height in the y direction is 3 mm.
- Permalloy or the like can be used as the magnetic concentrator 12 of the sensor 1a.
- the sensor 1a may include only the Hall elements 111 and 112.
- FIG. 7 is a schematic diagram for explaining the operation of the sensor 1a.
- the magnetic flux density applied to the sensor 1a is detected by the Hall elements 111, 112, 113, and 114.
