Definitions
- the present technology relates to an information processing method, an information processing apparatus, and a program applicable to streaming distribution of content via a wireless network.
- Patent Document 1 discloses a technique for reducing data delivery delay time and improving data throughput when a data delivery request is made from a plurality of terminals to a server in a communication network having a wireless space. Is disclosed.
- an object of the present technology is to provide an information processing method, an information processing apparatus, and a program that enable stable streaming delivery while suppressing deterioration in communication quality.
- an information processing apparatus includes a determination unit and a distribution control unit.
- the determination unit determines whether or not the communication state of the wireless network is normal for each of a plurality of playback devices that are targets of streaming distribution by unicasting of content via the wireless network.
- the distribution control unit excludes a communication failure apparatus, which is a reproduction apparatus determined to have a non-normal communication state, from the plurality of reproduction apparatuses as a target of streaming distribution by the unicast.
- the communication state of the wireless network for each playback device is determined. And the communication failure apparatus determined that the communication state is not normal is excluded from the target of unicast transmission. This makes it possible to perform stable streaming distribution with suppressed communication quality degradation.
- the plurality of playback devices may constitute a group capable of simultaneously playing back the same content.
- the delivery control unit may exclude the communication failure device from the target of streaming delivery of the same content by the unicast.
- simultaneous playback of the same content is maintained by other playback devices excluding the communication failure device that has been determined that the communication state is not normal. Therefore, it is possible to prevent the content reproduction from being interrupted.
- the determination unit may periodically determine the communication state. In this case, when the distribution control unit determines that the communication state of the communication failure device has recovered normally by the periodic determination by the determination unit, the distribution control unit determines that the playback device that is the communication failure device is the unit. You may return to the object of the streaming delivery by a cast. As a result, the reproduction by the reproduction apparatus whose communication state has been recovered is automatically resumed, so that a useful content distribution system can be constructed.
- the determination unit performs the communication based on at least one of the number of retransmission requests transmitted from each of the plurality of playback devices per unit time and communication quality information transmitted from each of the plurality of playback devices.
- the state may be determined. This makes it possible to determine the communication state of each playback device with high accuracy.
- the communication quality information may include at least one of reception field strength and data transfer rate. This makes it possible to determine the communication state of each playback device with high accuracy.
- Each of the plurality of playback devices may be connected to an access point via the wireless network.
- the information processing apparatus may further include an acquisition unit that acquires device information related to streaming distribution of the content by multicast of the access point.
- the distribution control unit may select and execute either the unicast streaming distribution or the multicast streaming distribution based on the acquired device information.

- the device information may include information on a bandwidth that can be used for streaming delivery by the multicast.
- the distribution control unit may select the streaming distribution by the multicast when the bit rate of the content is equal to or less than a bandwidth usable for the streaming distribution by the multicast. As a result, the bandwidth used can be saved.
- the information processing apparatus may further include a setting unit that can variably set the bit rate of the content.
- the distribution control unit may select the streaming distribution by the multicast when the bit rate set by the setting unit is equal to or less than the usable bandwidth. Thereby, content can be distributed efficiently.
- the information processing apparatus may further include a connection unit and a distribution unit.
- the connection unit can be connected to the plurality of playback devices via the wireless network.
- the distribution unit can distribute the content by unicast to each of the plurality of playback devices via the wireless network.

- the master device 50 can select either unicast streaming distribution or multicast streaming distribution. These streaming distributions are executed, for example, according to UDP (User Datagram Protocol).
- UDP User Datagram Protocol
- unicast streaming distribution is referred to as unicast transmission
- multicast streaming distribution is referred to as multicast transmission.
- FIG. 3A is a schematic diagram illustrating an operation example of unicast transmission.
- the master device 50 individually performs content streaming distribution to each of the plurality of slave devices 55.
- one slave device 55 has one on the uplink UL side from the master device 50 to the access point 5, and on the downlink DL side from the access point 5 to the slave device 55.
- One data transfer bandwidth (bps) is required for a total of two. As a matter of course, when one slave device 55 is added, the data transfer bandwidth for the two is newly required.
- a wireless network is constructed, and the wireless band is shared by the slave devices 55 in the group. Therefore, the data transfer speed per slave device 55 is less than or equal to the total number.
- FIG. 3B is a schematic diagram illustrating an operation example of multicast transmission.
- all slave devices 55 are grouped to form a multicast group.
- the master device 50 transmits single content data with the address of the multicast group as a destination.
- the content data is duplicated by the access point 5 and streamed to all the slave devices 55 belonging to the multicast group.
- the operation of the access point 5 at this time is also called multicast transfer.
- the uplink UL side it is possible to distribute content to all the slave devices 55 with one data transfer band, and it is possible to greatly save the bandwidth used for the transmission path.
- the band that can be used for the multicast transfer may be limited. If the upper limit of the usable bandwidth is low, high-quality content cannot be distributed.
- the bandwidth that can be used for multicast transfer by the access point 5 corresponds to the bandwidth that can be used for multicast transmission by the master device 50.
- the master device 50 determines whether the access point 5 can receive multicast transmission, that is, whether multicast transmission is possible. If multicast transfer is possible, the upper limit of the usable bandwidth is measured.
- the AP information acquisition unit 42 shown in FIG. 2 acquires device information related to multicast transmission (by the master device 50) of the access point 5.
- the device information includes information on a band that can be used for multicast transmission (by the master device 50).
- the device characteristics regarding multicast transmission of the access point 5 can also be said to be network characteristics for multicast transmission of the home network 1.
- FIG. 4 is a schematic sequence diagram illustrating a processing example for acquiring device information of the access point 5.
- two slave devices 55a and 55b are shown to simplify the drawing. Even when there are more slave devices 55, it is only necessary to execute processing similar to the processing described with reference to FIG. The same applies to FIGS. 5 to 9.
- the transmission control unit 40 executes multicast transmission more than a predetermined number of times per unit time (step 101).
- the predetermined number of times is not limited, and a certain number of times is set.
- the distribution control unit 40 also functions as a distribution unit that can execute unicast transmission and multicast transmission via the home network 1.
- the master device 50 receives a reception number response from each slave device 55 in response to a large amount of multicast transmission (step 102).
- the AP information acquisition unit 42 calculates device information related to multicast transmission based on the number of receptions, and determines whether or not the access point 5 is compatible with multicast and the upper limit of the usable bandwidth (step 103).
- the number of reception when the number of reception is zero, it is determined that the access point 5 is not multicast compatible.
- the number of receptions is 1 or more, the maximum number of multicast transmissions per unit time, that is, the upper limit of the bandwidth that can be used for multicast transmission is calculated based on the lowest value among the reception numbers for each slave device 55. .
- the upper limit of the bandwidth that can be used for multicast transmission is simply referred to as the bandwidth used for multicast transmission, and may be expressed as, for example, larger than the bandwidth used or less than the bandwidth used.
- the distribution control unit 40 selects either unicast transmission or multicast transmission. For example, when the access point 5 does not support multicast, unicast transmission is selected.
- FIG. 5 is a flowchart and a sequence diagram illustrating an example of selection of a delivery method when the access point 5 is multicast compatible.
- Step 203 When it is determined that the bit rate is equal to or lower than the use band (No in Step 202), unicast transmission is executed (Step 203). As described above, since unicast transmission and multicast transmission are appropriately selected based on the device information of the access point 5 (network information of the home network 1), efficient content distribution is realized.
- the encoding unit 43 shown in FIG. 2 can variably set the bit rate of the content during encoding. Based on the variable bit rate (VBR: Variable Bitrate) set by the encoding unit 43, the determination process of step 201 is executed.
- VBR Variable Bitrate
- the encoding unit 43 when content is downloaded from the server device 20, the encoding unit 43 performs encoding at a predetermined bit rate.
- the value of the bit rate at this time is not limited, but is set by the user, for example. Further, the bit rate at the time of encoding by the server device 20 may be set as the initial bit rate.
- the bit rate setting (change) by the encoding unit 43 may be executed at an arbitrary timing such as during the distribution of content. In this case, for example, the determination process of step 201 is appropriately executed according to the change of the bit rate. The change of the bit rate will be described later.
- the encoding unit 43 functions as a setting unit in the present embodiment.
- FIG. 6 is a flowchart and sequence diagram illustrating an example of processing for determining a communication state when unicast transmission is selected.
- the communication state determination unit 41 shown in FIG. 2 determines whether or not the communication state of the home network 1 is normal for each of the plurality of slave devices 55 that are the targets of unicast transmission via the home network 1. Is done.
- the communication state of the home network 1 for each slave device 55 is the communication state of the link from the master device 50 to each slave device 55.
- each slave device 55 transmits communication quality information to the master device 50 at a predetermined time interval such as 5 seconds.
- a request for transmitting communication quality information may be sent from the master device 50 to each slave device 55 periodically.
- the communication quality information is information capable of evaluating the status of the link from the master device 50 to each slave device 55, and typically, at least one of the received electric field strength and the data transfer rate calculated by each slave device 55. Contains information.
- the present invention is not limited to this, and other parameters for evaluating throughput (effective speed), link speed information, and the like may be transmitted as communication quality information.
- the communication state determination unit 41 determines whether or not the communication state is normal for each slave device 55 based on the communication quality information acquired from each slave device 55 (step 302).
- the slave device 55 determined to have an abnormal communication state is excluded from the target of unicast transmission by the distribution control unit 40 (from step 302 to step 303).
- the slave device 55 that is determined to have a non-normal communication state may be referred to as a communication failure device.
- the slave device 55 determined to have a normal communication state is set as a target for unicast transmission by the distribution control unit 40 (from Yes in step 302 to step 304). Typically, when unicast transmission is selected, all slave devices 55 are set as unicast transmission targets, so that the setting is maintained.
- the determination process in step 302 is periodically executed every time communication quality information is acquired.
- the periodic determination it is assumed that the slave device 55 determined as a communication failure device in the previous determination is determined to have a normal communication state by a new determination. In this case, it is determined that the communication state has been recovered, and the slave device 55 that was the communication failure device is returned to the target of unicast transmission (also in step 304).
- the reason for the occurrence of the error is not limited. However, for example, a case where a microwave oven or the like is disposed nearby and a radio wave interference occurs due to the operation of the microwave oven is sufficiently conceivable.
- the influence will be on streaming delivery to other slave devices 55 and the throughput of the entire system will be reduced.
- the retransmission request for the lost bucket is repeated from the slave device 55 whose communication quality has deteriorated, and the entire traffic is blocked.
- the overall link speed may be lowered by the access point 5 in order to establish a stable communication path.
- the content will not be played back properly. For example, if the content is multimedia data that requires real-time performance, the data will not arrive within the required time, and the audio will be interrupted or the video will stop. It can happen.
- the communication state of each slave device 55 is periodically monitored. Then, the communication failure device determined to be in the normal communication state is excluded from the unicast transmission target, and the unicast transmission is maintained for the slave device 55 in which the communication state is determined to be normal.
- the slave device 55 that has been determined to be a communication failure device can be returned to the target of unicast transmission according to the recovery of the communication state. That is, the communication failure device whose communication state has been lowered is merely temporarily removed from the content distribution target, and when the communication state is recovered, the reproduction of the content by the reproduction device is automatically resumed. As a result, it is possible to construct a useful content distribution system, and in the present embodiment, it is possible to realize a multi-room playback system with high merchantability.
- FIG. 7 is a flowchart and sequence diagram illustrating another example of processing for determining a communication state.
- the communication state determination unit 41 calculates the number of retransmission requests transmitted from each of the plurality of slave devices 55 per unit time (step 401).
- the number of retransmission requests typically corresponds to the number of lost packets.
- a slave device 55 whose number of retransmission requests per unit time (hereinafter referred to as the number of unit retransmission requests) is equal to or greater than a predetermined threshold is determined to be a communication failure device whose communication state is not normal, and is excluded from unicast transmission targets (From step 402 Yes to step 403).
- the slave device 55 whose number of unit retransmission requests is less than a predetermined threshold is determined as a slave device 55 whose communication state is normal, and is set or returned to the target of unicast transmission (from step 402 No to step 404). ).
- the communication state may be determined by appropriately combining the communication state information shown in FIG. 6 and the unit retransmission request number shown in FIG.
- the communication status can be easily determined with high accuracy.
- FIG. 8 is a flowchart showing a modification of processing for selecting either unicast transmission or multicast transmission (the sequence diagram is omitted). Similar to step 201 in FIG. 5, it is determined whether or not the bit rate of the content is larger than the bandwidth used for multicast transmission (step 501).
- the encoding unit 43 reduces the bit rate. That is, the bit rate is lowered and the content is encoded (step 502). Thereafter, it is determined whether or not the lowered bit rate is greater than the bandwidth used for multicast transmission (step 503).
- step 503 If it is determined that the newly set bit rate is larger (Yes in step 503), unicast transmission is executed (step 504). On the other hand, when it is determined that the new bit rate is equal to or lower than the use band (No in Step 503), unicast transmission is executed (Step 505).
- step 601 of FIG. 9 when the bit rate of the content is larger than the use band, the use band and the bit rate that can be changed by the encoding unit 43 may be compared. That is, the upper limit of the usable bandwidth and the lower limit of the changeable bit rate may be compared.
- Step 601 When the changeable bit rate is larger than the use band (Yes in Step 601), unicast transmission is selected (Step 602).
- Step 603 When the changeable bit rate is equal to or less than the use band (No in Step 601), the bit rate is reduced (Step 603), and multicast transmission is executed (Step 604).
- the bit rate is appropriately set in a range smaller than the upper limit of the usable bandwidth. For example, it is set to a value substantially equal to the upper limit of the usable bandwidth. Through such processing, efficient content distribution can be executed.
- the changeable bit rate can be changed below the use band of multicast transmission and the bit rate is changed by the encoding unit 43.
- bit rate after the change is smaller than a predetermined threshold, unicast transmission may be selected instead of multicast transmission.
- This processing is based on the concept of emphasizing the quality of content rather than saving the bandwidth used for the transmission path.
- communication status information or / and the number of unit retransmission requests may be used as a determination parameter. For example, when the communication state is good, even if multicast transmission is possible by lowering the bit rate, unicast transmission is executed at a relatively high bit rate. When the communication state is not very good, even if the quality of the content is slightly deteriorated, multicast transmission is executed with the bit rate lowered. Such processing enables efficient content distribution.
- network quality is a flowchart and a sequence diagram showing an example of changing the bit rate according to the quality of the entire network in the group (hereinafter referred to as network quality).
- the communication quality information transmitted from each of the plurality of slave devices 55 is periodically acquired, and all the communication quality information is aggregated together (step 701). Based on the totaled results, it is determined whether or not the network quality has deteriorated (step 702). If it is determined that the network quality has deteriorated (Yes in step 702), the bit rate is reduced with priority on connectivity (step 703).
- Step 704 it is determined whether or not the network quality has been improved. If it is determined that the network quality has been improved (Yes in step 704), the bit rate is increased by giving priority to the reproduction quality and setting the bit rate to a higher value (step 705). When it is determined that the network quality is not improved (No in Step 704), the process returns to Step 701.
- the network quality may be determined based on the number of retransmission requests transmitted from each of the plurality of slave devices 55 per unit time.
- the number of retransmission requests per unit time transmitted from each slave device 55 is calculated (step 801). It is determined whether or not the number of unit retransmission requests is equal to or higher than a high threshold, which is the higher threshold of the two thresholds (step 802). If the number of unit retransmission requests is equal to or higher than the high threshold (Yes in Step 802), it is determined that the network quality has deteriorated, and the bit rate is reduced (Step 803).
- Step 804 it is determined whether or not the number of unit retransmission requests is less than the lower threshold that is the lower of the two thresholds (Step 804). If it is determined that the number of unit retransmission requests is equal to or higher than the low threshold (Yes in Step 804), it is determined that the network quality has improved, and a higher bit rate is executed (Step 805). When it is determined that the number of unit retransmission requests is less than the low threshold (No in Step 804), the process returns to Step 801.
- the network quality may be determined based on the total number of retransmission requests from all slave devices 55 sent per unit time.
- the network quality may be periodically determined, and the bit rate of the content may be changed based on the determination result.
- stable streaming distribution is possible.
- a delivery method selection process as shown in FIGS. 5, 8, and 9 is executed. As a result, it is possible to select an optimal distribution method according to the network quality, and efficient content distribution becomes possible.
- bit rate and the increase in the bit rate are performed based on the optimized parameters with reference to the value of the bit rate at that time, for example.
- a smooth bit rate change may be performed by providing each threshold value with a hysteresis characteristic.
- This technology can also be applied to devices capable of only unicast transmission. That is, by providing a function related to unicast transmission as shown in FIG. 6 and FIG.
- This technology can also be applied to devices that cannot change the content bit rate and can only deliver at a fixed bit rate. Even when distribution at a fixed bit rate is executed, stable streaming distribution can be performed by executing processing for temporarily disconnecting a communication failure device whose communication state is not normal in unicast transmission, for example. In addition, efficient content distribution is possible by appropriately selecting a distribution method based on device information related to multicast transmission by an access point.
- the content bit rate may be fixed or variable by the user.
- the processing of the present technology described above may be applied as appropriate according to the user's setting.
- the slave device 50 in the group has been described as an example of the information processing device according to the present technology.
- the present invention is not limited to this, and the mobile terminal 30 that functions as a DMC may be configured as an information processing apparatus according to the present technology.
- the information processing method according to the present technology can be executed by providing the mobile terminal 30 with the functions of the distribution control unit 40 (excluding the function of the distribution unit) and the communication state determination unit 41 illustrated in FIG.
- the functions of the AP information acquisition unit 42 and the encoding unit 43 may be provided in the portable terminal 30.
- the temporary disconnection of the communication failure device, the currently executed distribution method, the current bit rate, or the like may be displayed on the display of the mobile terminal 30 or the like. As a result, the user can easily grasp the distribution status of the content.
- the present technology can be applied not only to playback devices that form a predetermined group, but also to a plurality of playback devices connected to a wireless network.
- the present technology can also be applied when content is distributed to a plurality of playback devices 10 connected to the home network 1 by the server device 20 illustrated in FIG.
- the first unicast transmission is selected, and the bit rate is lowered until the network quality settles (determined by a predetermined threshold or the like). If the network quality is not stable even when the bit rate is lowered, it is determined whether multicast transmission can be selected. Such an operation may be performed.
- this technique can also take the following structures.
- a determination unit that determines whether or not a communication state of the wireless network is normal for each of a plurality of playback devices that are targets of streaming distribution by unicasting of content via the wireless network;
- An information processing apparatus comprising: a distribution control unit that excludes a communication failure apparatus that is a reproduction apparatus determined to have an abnormal communication state among the plurality of reproduction apparatuses from a target of streaming distribution by unicast.
- the information processing apparatus according to (1) The plurality of playback devices constitute a group capable of simultaneously playing back the same content, The distribution control unit excludes the communication failure device from an object of streaming distribution by the unicast of the same content.
- the determination unit periodically determines the communication state, When the distribution control unit determines that the communication state of the communication failure device has been recovered normally by the periodic determination by the determination unit, the distribution control unit performs the unicast streaming on the playback device that is the communication failure device. Information processing device that returns to the target of distribution.
