Definitions
- the present invention relates to an optical connector.
- An optical connector having a ferrule includes a spring member that elastically biases the ferrule in a connecting direction with the counterpart ferrule for the purpose of reducing a gap with the counterpart ferrule to be fitted.
- an optical connector 501 disclosed in Patent Document 1 accommodates a ferrule 505 attached to a terminal of an optical fiber cable 503 in which an optical fiber is covered with a covering portion (outer jacket), and the ferrule 505.
- a housing 507 a leaf spring 509 that is a spring member that biases the ferrule 505 toward the front end in the housing 507, and a rear side of the ferrule 505 that is provided on the rear end side of the ferrule 505 and resists the biasing force of the leaf spring 509. And a stopper 513 having a locking piece 511 for restricting movement toward the end side at a predetermined position.
- the stopper 513 is assembled from the opening 515 of the housing 507.
- the plate spring 509 made of spring steel has a connecting portion 524 that is curved in an arc shape. On one end side of the connecting portion 524, a flat plate 3 is formed. Two support pieces 522 are extended. These support pieces 522 are arranged with a space slightly larger than the outer diameter of the holding cylindrical portion 519 of the ferrule 505.
- the connecting portion 524 is divided into two divided connecting portions 521 by a slit 526 formed in the center thereof, and a pair of urging pieces 523 is formed in each of the divided connecting portions 521.
- the pair of urging pieces 523 are arranged with a space slightly larger than the outer diameter of the holding cylindrical portion 519 of the ferrule 505, and are arranged in parallel with the support piece 522. These urging pieces 523 are bent so as to protrude to the opposite side of the support piece 522.
- the leaf spring 509 formed in this way has an opening portion facing the support piece 522 and the urging piece 523 with the urging piece 523 disposed on the distal end side with respect to the housing 507 on which the ferrule 505 is mounted. It is assembled from 515.
- the leaf spring 509 is inserted into a spring housing recess 517 formed in the housing 507 and assembled so as to straddle the holding cylindrical portion 519 of the ferrule 505 in the housing 507.
- the plate spring 509 is inserted between the spring housing recess 517 and disposed between the wall surface 517 a of the rear end side of the housing 507 in the spring housing recess 517 and the first flange 525 of each ferrule 505.
- each ferrule 505 is urged toward the distal end side of the housing 507 by the urging force of the leaf spring 509 received by the first flange 525 from the urging piece 523, and the first flange 525 contacts the edge 527 of the small diameter hole. It is assumed that According to such an optical connector 501, good urging force in the connector connecting direction is always maintained, and high connection reliability is obtained.
- the above-described conventional optical connector 501 uses a leaf spring 509 that is bent in a substantially U shape, a biasing piece 523 having a sufficient span length is required to produce a sufficient stroke and reaction force.
- the housing 507 becomes larger in the direction intersecting the connector connection direction (vertical direction in FIG. 5A).
- the conventional optical connector 501 is provided with the opening 515 for accommodating the leaf spring 509 in the housing 507 around the ferrule, the contact surface between the ferrule 505 and the housing 507 is reduced, and the housing 507 There is a problem that it is difficult to increase the positional accuracy of the ferrule 505. Further, as shown in FIG.
- the conventional leaf spring 509 has a complicated shape in which a plurality of support pieces 522 and biasing pieces 523 are bent in a substantially U shape so as to protrude in the same direction. Yes. Therefore, when an operator who assembles the leaf spring 509 takes out the leaf spring 509 from the package, the leaf springs are easily entangled with each other, which may hinder the assembling work.
- the present invention has been made in view of the above situation, and an object of the present invention is to provide an optical connector capable of realizing a reduction in the height of the housing and improving the positional accuracy of the ferrule.
- An optical connector comprising: a ferrule holding member for holding; and a spring member for urging the ferrule toward the front end side of the housing, wherein the spring member has a rear end fixed to the ferrule holding member and a front end

- an R-bending portion in which the convex curved surface is in sliding contact with the rear end surface of the ferrule is formed at the distal end portion of the elastic arm piece. Therefore, the elastic arm piece pressed by the retreating ferrule is bent and deformed while the R-bending portion is smoothly slidably contacting the rear end surface of the ferrule, so that the ferrule can be smoothly urged toward the front end side of the housing.
- the spring member having a substantially straight leaf spring shape extending along the side surface of the ferrule holding member does not need to secure a large accommodation space in the housing in a direction intersecting the connector connecting direction. Therefore, the height of the housing can be reduced. Further, since the rear end portion of the elastic arm piece is fixed to the ferrule holding member and the spring member is attached to the housing from the rear opening of the housing together with the ferrule holding member, the insertion direction of the ferrule is different from the conventional structure. There is no need to provide an opening for mounting the spring member in the orthogonal direction, and the housing can ensure a large contact area with the ferrule. Therefore, the positional accuracy of the ferrule in the housing can be increased.
- the spring member in which the elastic arm piece has a substantially linear shape is less likely to be entangled with each other as compared with a conventional spring member having a complicated shape bent in a substantially U shape. Therefore, an operator who installs the spring member can smoothly remove the spring member from the package, and the assembly workability is improved.
- the elastic arm piece avoids interference with the ferrule holding member by the interference avoidance space even when the distal end side of the elastic arm piece is greatly bent by being pressed by the retreating ferrule. Is done. Therefore, the spring member can smoothly bias the ferrule toward the front end side of the housing with a predetermined stroke and reaction force.
- the interference avoidance space has a clearance dimension capable of avoiding interference with the ferrule holding member within the bending range of the elastic arm piece within the housing.
- the pair of parallel free ends of the elastic arm pieces are slidably contacted with the rear end face of the ferrule symmetrically with the R-bending portion of each front end sandwiching the axis of the ferrule.
- the ferrule can be urged along the axial direction, and the tilt of the ferrule can be suppressed.
