  • the pattern of printing apertures comprises a plurality of parallel, narrow and elongate apertures for printing metallization lines on wafers, optionally the longitudinal axes of the elongate apertures extend substantially parallel to the printing axis.

  • the screen printing machine comprises a screen printing assembly 3 which is configured to receive a printing screen 5 and print on workpieces W through the printing screen 5, a screen support unit 7 which is configured to support the screen printing assembly 3, a workpiece support unit 9 which is configured to support workpieces W at a printing zone beneath the printing screen 5, and a cleaning apparatus 11 for cleaning the underside of the printing screen 5 in situ and/or a platen 71 of the workpiece support unit 9.
  • the screen printing assembly 3 comprises a rigid frame 15 to which the printing screen 5 is mounted, first and second horizontal guides 17, 17 which are disposed in parallel relation to the frame 15 at opposite sides of the printing screen 5, a print head assembly 19 which is supported on the horizontal guides 17, 17 so as to be movable in a horizontal plane in a printing axis and print a print medium through the printing screen 5 onto a workpiece W which is supported therebelow by the workpiece support unit 9, and a drive unit 21 for driving the print head assembly 19 along the horizontal guides 17, 17 in one of first and second, opposite directions Dl, D2 in the printing axis.
  • the pattern of printing apertures 30 comprises a plurality of parallel, narrow and elongate apertures for printing the metallization lines on wafers.
  • the longitudinal axes of the elongate apertures 30 extend substantially parallel to the printing axis.
  • the screen support unit 7 could include a fourth support which supports the fourth corner of the frame 15.
  • the fourth support could comprise first and second parts, here upper and lower parts, which separate on raising the screen support unit 7 to the cleaning position, such as to allow for the cleaning apparatus 11 to pass therebetween and beneath the printing screen 5.
  • the air-permeable section 74 could comprise an apertured component including an array of through bores therein.
  • the outer surface of the belt 73 has a shore hardness (Shore D) of 40. In preferred embodiments the outer surface of the belt 73 has a shore hardness (Shore D) of from about 30 to about 50.
  • the screen-cleaning component 88 includes a screen contact element 107 at an upper surface thereof which faces the lower surface of the printing screen 5 and over which is provided a section of the cleaning sheet 87, whereby the screen contact element 107 contacts the underside of the printing screen 5.
  • the screen contact element 107 comprises a first, screen drying section 107a, in this embodiment a flat section, which is configured to support a dry section of the cleaning sheet 87 thereabove, a second, vacuum section 107b, at which a vacuum is provided to draw residue into the cleaning sheet 87 and cause the printing screen 5 to be drawn onto the screen contact element 107 and thereby into firm, positive contact with the cleaning sheet 87, and a third, screen wetting section 107c, in this embodiment a flat section, which is configured to support a wet section of the cleaning sheet 87 thereabove.
  • the cleaning unit 81 further comprises a vacuum source 115 which is operative to draw a vacuum or reduced pressure through the length of the vacuum section 107b of the screen contact element 107.
  • the feed unit 85 comprises a supply roll 121 of the cleaning sheet 87, a take-up roll 123 onto which used cleaning sheet 87 is wound, and a drive 125, here a drive motor, which is operative to draw a predetermined length of the cleaning sheet 87 over the screen contact element 107 of the cleaning head 83, here a length which is such as to draw a section of the cleaning sheet 87 as wetted by the fluid supply 117 to the screen wetting section 107c of the screen contact element 107.
  • the supply roll 121 includes a drag mechanism which provides a frictional torque against which the cleaning sheet 87 is drawn by the drive 125.
  • the platen-cleaning component 89 includes a platen contact element 135 at a lower surface thereof which faces the upper surface of the platen 71, here as defined by the belt 73.
  • the cleaning head 83 comprises a main body 137, and a housing 138 which supports the supply roll 121 and the take-up roll 123 and is removable from the main body 137 in the manner of a cassette, such as to allow for replacement of the supply roll 121 and the take-up roll 123 as an integral unit.
  • the fluid supply member 118 of the fluid supply 117 is provided by the housing 138.
  • the cleaning head 83 can provide for cleaning of the printing screen 5 and the platen 71 in a single sweep over the printing screen 5, with the screen wetting section 107c of the screen contact element 107 defining the leading edge and the screen drying section 107a of the screen contact element 107 defining the trailing edge, whereby the underside of the printing screen 5 is first wetted by a wet section of the cleaning sheet 87 thereabove, subsequently wetted residue is drawn into the cleaning sheet 87 at the vacuum section 107b, with the vacuum simultaneously acting to draw the printing screen 5 onto the screen contact element 107, and finally the underside of the cleaned printing screen 5 is dried at the screen drying section 107c.
  • the cleaning head 83 can provide for cleaning over multiple sweeps over the printing screen 5 and the platen 71.
  • the cleaning head 83 can be configured selectively to clean a section of the printing screen 5 at which a build-up of print medium is identified, as will be described in more detail hereinbelow.
  • the cleaning apparatus 11 further comprises an oscillator 139, in this embodiment an ultrasonic unit, here a piezoelectric unit, which is operative to oscillate the cleaning unit 83.
  • an oscillator 139 in this embodiment an ultrasonic unit, here a piezoelectric unit, which is operative to oscillate the cleaning unit 83.
  • the oscillator 139 is configured to oscillate principally in a direction orthogonal to the printing axis.
  • the oscillator 139 is configured to oscillate with components in a direction orthogonal to and in the printing axis.
  • the oscillator 139 is configured to provide a displacement of less than 10 pm, optionally less than 5 pm.
  • the small displacements especially in a direction orthogonal to the axes of the principal printing apertures 30 in the printing screen 5, provide for effective cleaning of print medium from within the printing apertures 30.
  • the drive unit 82 comprises a horizontal guide 141, here a linear bearing, which extends along one side of the frame 15 of the screen printing assembly 3, here substantially parallel to the printing axis, a carriage 143 which runs on the guide 141, an arm 145 which is mounted to the carriage 143 and supports the cleaning unit 81, here at the distal end thereof, and an actuator 147, here a ball-screw actuator, for driving the carriage 143 along the guide 141.
  • the drive unit 82 is controllable such as to provide for selective cleaning of only part of the printing screen 5 which corresponds to the printing image, or to provide selectively for greater cleaning of part of the printing screen 5.
  • the raiser mechanism 65 of the screen support unit 7 is operated to raise the screen printing assembly 3 from an operative position, as illustrated in Figure 11(a), to a cleaning position, as illustrated in Figure
  • the cleaning unit 81 is driven to clean the entire image in the printing screen 5, with one or more sweeps of the cleaning unit 81.
  • the cleaning unit 81 can be driven selectively to clean a part or parts of the image of the printing screen 5 in preference to another part or parts of the image in the printing screen 5.
  • the belt 73 of the workpiece support unit 9 is operated during at least part of the cleaning operation by the cleaning unit 81, such that the belt 73 is moved beneath the platen-cleaning component 89 of the cleaning unit 81, as the platen-cleaning component 89 is moved laterally across the belt 73.
  • the raiser mechanism 65 of the screen support unit 7 is operated to lower the screen printing assembly 3 from the cleaning position to the operative, printing position, as illustrated in Figure 11(c).
  • the platen contact element 135 comprises a rotatable member 151, in this embodiment a brush section, which is rotatable about an axis which is substantially parallel to the cleaning axis.
  • rotatable element 151 is driven by operation of the belt 73 of the platen 71, whereby the length of the belt 73 is cleaned in a cleaning operation.
  • the cleaning unit 81 further comprises a support 153, here disposed to the distal end of the cleaning head 83, which acts to support the cleaning head 83 when located at a cleaning zone beneath the printing screen 5.
  • the support 153 rests on part of the screen support unit 7. In another embodiment the support 153 could rest on part of the workpiece support unit 9 or on some other structural component.
  • the support 153 comprises a body 155 and a slide coupling 157 which slideably couples the body 155 to the cleaning head 83, such that the cleaning head 83 is slideable relative to the body 155 in the cleaning axis.
  • the cleaning head 83 is free to slide, in a supported fashion, in the cleaning axis between the printing screen 5 and the platen 71.

Abstract

L'invention concerne un appareil (11) et un procédé de nettoyage pour une machine de sérigraphie (3). L'appareil comprend : une unité de support de cadre d'impression (7) servant de support à un ensemble de sérigraphie qui comprend un cadre d'impression (5) pour effectuer une impression sur des pièces (W) à travers ce dernier; une unité de support de pièces (9) qui comprend une platine (71) servant de support à des pièces (W) au niveau d'une zone d'impression en-dessous du cadre d'impression (5); et un appareil de nettoyage (11) apte à effectuer une opération de nettoyage afin de nettoyer une surface inférieure du cadre d'impression (5) et/ou une surface supérieure de la platine (71).
