Abstract

 本発明は、マルチリーフコリメータ8の開口部8cの鮮明な撮像画像を得ることができる荷電粒子線照射装置4を提供する。荷電粒子線照射装置4は、サイクロトロン5から供給された荷電粒子線Pを患者Aの体内の腫瘍部Bに照射する散乱体6及びリッジフィルタ7と、腫瘍部Bの形状に合わせて荷電粒子線Pの照射範囲を設定するマルチリーフコリメータ8とを有している。リッジフィルタ7とマルチリーフコリメータ8との間には、荷電粒子線Pの照射軸Qに対して進退可能なコリメータ形状確認ユニット9が配置されている。コリメータ形状確認ユニット9は、マルチリーフコリメータ8の開口部8cを直接撮像する撮像カメラ11を有し、荷電粒子線Pの照射軸Qを含む照射領域Rに対応する撮像位置と荷電粒子線Pの照射軸Qを含む照射領域Rから離れた退避位置との間で移動可能となっている。

Description

荷電粒子線照射装置
 本発明は、被照射体に荷電粒子線を照射する荷電粒子線照射装置に関するものである。
 荷電粒子線を照射する荷電粒子線照射装置は、例えば陽子線を患者の腫瘍部に照射してがん治療を行う放射線治療装置に使用されている。このような放射線治療装置としては、例えば特許文献1に記載されているものが知られている。特許文献1に記載の放射線治療装置は、被検体の体表に照射される放射線を発生させる放射線発生部と、この放射線発生部から照射された放射線の照射野を決定するマルチリーフコリメータと、このマルチリーフコリメータの開口部を介して被検体を撮影するCCDカメラとを備え、CCDカメラにより得られた撮像画像に基づいて所定の処理を行うというものである。

 しかしながら、上記従来技術においては、CCDカメラの設置位置は固定されており、マルチリーフコリメータの開口部がCCDカメラにより2枚のハーフミラーを介して撮像される。このため、CCDカメラにより得られた撮像画像が歪んでしまうことがある。また、2枚のハーフミラーの取付誤差等もある。このため、CCDカメラによる撮像画像が実際の画像と異なるという問題が生じ得る。従って、マルチリーフコリメータの開口部の形状が計画通りの形状になっているかどうかを画像で確認するためには、CCDカメラの出力画像データに対して何らかの誤差修正処理を行う等、複雑な処理を実施する必要がある。
 本発明の目的は、マルチリーフコリメータの開口部の鮮明な撮像画像を得ることができる荷電粒子線照射装置を提供することである。
 本発明は、被照射体に荷電粒子線を照射する照射部と、照射部から照射される荷電粒子線の照射範囲を設定するマルチリーフコリメータとを備えた荷電粒子線照射装置において、照射部とマルチリーフコリメータとの間において照射部から照射される荷電粒子線の照射軸に対して進退可能に設けられ、マルチリーフコリメータの開口部を直接撮像する撮像部と、荷電粒子線の照射軸を含む照射領域に対応する撮像位置と照射領域から離れた退避位置との間で撮像部を移動させる駆動部とを備えることを特徴とするものである。
 このような本発明の荷電粒子線照射装置においては、照射部から被照射体に荷電粒子線を照射する前に、撮像部によりマルチリーフコリメータの開口部を撮像し、マルチリーフコリメータの開口部の形状が計画通りの形状になっているかどうかを画像で確認する。撮像部は、通常は照射部から照射される荷電粒子線の照射軸を含む照射領域から離れた退避位置にある。撮像部による撮像を行うときは、駆動部によって撮像部を上記退避位置から荷電粒子線の照射軸を含む照射領域に対応する撮像位置に移動させる。そして、その撮像位置において、撮像部によりマルチリーフコリメータの開口部を撮像する。このように撮像部を照射部から照射される荷電粒子線の照射軸に対して進退可能とすることにより、撮像部の設置位置が固定されている場合のようにマルチリーフコリメータと撮像部との間にハーフミラーを配置しなくて済むため、マルチリーフコリメータの開口部を直接撮像することができる。このため、撮像部による撮像画像に歪みが生じること等の不具合が防止される。これにより、マルチリーフコリメータの開口部の鮮明な撮像画像を得ることができる。
 好ましくは、撮像部は、荷電粒子線の照射軸に対して進退可能な取付ブラケットに取り付けられており、駆動部は、取付ブラケットを撮像位置と退避位置との間で移動させ、取付ブラケットが退避位置にあるときに取付ブラケットにおける撮像部よりも荷電粒子線の照射軸側には、撮像部を荷電粒子線から保護するための遮蔽壁が設けられている。このように撮像部を荷電粒子線から保護するための遮蔽壁を設けることにより、荷電粒子線の照射中に撮像部に与える荷電粒子線ダメージが抑制されるようになる。
 このとき、好ましくは、取付ブラケットには、マルチリーフコリメータの開口部に光を照射する光源部が更に取り付けられている。このように光源部を設けることにより、取付ブラケットが撮像位置にある状態では、光源部からマルチリーフコリメータの開口部に向けて光が直接照射されるため、撮像部によりマルチリーフコリメータの開口部を撮像する際に、マルチリーフコリメータの開口部が照らされる。従って、マルチリーフコリメータの開口部のより鮮明な撮像画像を得ることができる。
 光源部は、取付ブラケットが撮像位置にあるときに荷電粒子線の照射軸上に位置するように、取付ブラケットに取り付けられていることが好ましい。荷電粒子線照射装置では、マルチリーフコリメータの下方に被照射体コリメータが配置される場合がある。被照射体コリメータは、被照射体毎に作られるものであり、被照射体の照射目標物(患部)に合った開口部を有している。また、被照射体コリメータは、被照射体が変わるごとに人為的に交換されるため、取付方向に対して人為的ミスが生じない様にしなければならない。この場合、取付ブラケットが撮像位置にある状態では、荷電粒子線の照射軸を中心にして光源部から被照射体コリメータの開口部を介して被照射体に向けて光が照射されるため、被照射体に当たる光の影の形状が被照射体コリメータの開口部と相似形となる。従って、この光の影の形状と予め画像や写真に取り込んでおいた照射目標物の形状とを比較することで、被照射体コリメータの取付方向の確認を確実に行うことができる。
 本発明によれば、マルチリーフコリメータの開口部の鮮明な撮像画像を得ることができる。これにより、特に撮像部の出力画像データに対して複雑な誤差修正処理等を行わなくても、マルチリーフコリメータの開口部の形状が計画通りの形状になっているかどうかを画像で確認することが可能となる。
本発明に係る荷電粒子線照射装置の一実施形態を備えた荷電粒子線治療装置を示す斜視図である。 図1に示した荷電粒子線治療装置の概略構成図である。 図2に示したコリメータ形状確認ユニットを駆動制御系と共に示す構成図である。 図2に示したコリメータ形状確認ユニットが撮像位置及び退避位置にある状態を示す概略図である。 図3に示したコントローラにより実行される処理手順の詳細を示すフローチャートである。
 以下、本発明に係る荷電粒子線照射装置の好適な実施形態について、図面を参照しながら詳細に説明する。
 図1は、本発明に係る荷電粒子線照射装置の一実施形態を備えた荷電粒子線治療装置を示す斜視図であり、図2は、図1に示した荷電粒子線治療装置の概略構成図である。各図において、荷電粒子線治療装置1は、例えば患者Aの体内の患部である腫瘍部(照射目標物)Bに対して荷電粒子線Pを照射して、がん治療を行う装置である。荷電粒子線としては、例えば陽子線や重粒子線等が挙げられる。
 荷電粒子線治療装置1は、治療台2を取り囲むように設けられた回転ガントリ3と、この回転ガントリ3に取り付けられ、回転ガントリ3によって治療台2の回りを回転可能な荷電粒子線照射装置4とを備えている。
 また、荷電粒子線治療装置1は、サイクロトロン(加速器)5を更に備えている。サイクロトロン5は、回転ガントリ3から離れた位置に設置され、イオン源(図示せず)で生成された荷電粒子線を加速させて出射する。サイクロトロン5から出射された荷電粒子線は、ビーム輸送系(図示せず)を介して荷電粒子線照射装置4に供給される。なお、サイクロトロン5は、回転ガントリ3と一体的に回転させることも可能である。
 荷電粒子線照射装置4は、荷電粒子線Pの照射方向に順に配置された散乱体6、リッジフィルタ7、マルチリーフコリメータ8及び患者コリメータ(被照射体コリメータ)18を有している。散乱体6、リッジフィルタ7及びマルチリーフコリメータ8は、荷電粒子線照射装置4の筐体4aに取り付けられている。
 散乱体6は、鉛板等で形成され、サイクロトロン5から供給された荷電粒子線を幅広いビームに拡大させるものである。リッジフィルタ7は、散乱体6により拡大された荷電粒子線の線量分布を調整するものである。具体的には、リッジフィルタ7は、患者Aの腫瘍部Bの厚さ(照射方向の長さ)に対応するように荷電粒子線に拡大ブラッグピーク(SOBP)を与える。このような散乱体6及びリッジフィルタ7は、荷電粒子線Pを照射する照射部を構成している。
 マルチリーフコリメータ8は、患者Aの腫瘍部Bの形状に合わせて荷電粒子線Pの照射範囲(照射野)を設定するものである。具体的には、マルチリーフコリメータ8は、例えば真鍮製の多数のリーフからなる1対のリーフ群8a,8bを有している。リーフ群8a,8bは、互いに突き合わされるように配置されている。これらのリーフ群8a,8b間には、荷電粒子線Pを通過させる開口部8cが形成されている。リーフ群8a,8bのリーフを個別に長手方向に進退させることで、開口部8cの位置及び形状を変化させることができる。なお、マルチリーフコリメータ8は、例えば患者Aの腫瘍部Bが大きい場合に使用される。
 患者コリメータ18は、マルチリーフコリメータ8の下方において荷電粒子線照射装置4の筐体4aに着脱可能に取り付けられている。患者コリメータ18は、マルチリーフコリメータ8と同様に、患者Aの腫瘍部Bの形状に合わせて荷電粒子線Pの照射範囲を設定するものである。患者コリメータ18は、患者A毎に製作され、荷電粒子線Pを通過させる開口部18aを有している。開口部18aは、患者Aの腫瘍部Bに合った寸法及び形状を有している。マルチリーフコリメータ8が使用されるときは、患者コリメータ18は筐体4aから取り外される。なお、患者コリメータ18が使用されるときは、マルチリーフコリメータ8の開口部8cを実際の腫瘍部Bよりも大きくする。
 リッジフィルタ7とマルチリーフコリメータ8との間には、荷電粒子線Pの照射軸Qに対して進退可能なコリメータ形状確認ユニット9が配置されている。コリメータ形状確認ユニット9は、マルチリーフコリメータ8から例えば400mm程度離れている。なお、マルチリーフコリメータ8と荷電粒子線Pのターゲット(患者Aの体表)との距離は、例えば100mm程度である。
 コリメータ形状確認ユニット9は、図2及び図3に示すように、平板状の取付ブラケット10を有している。なお、図3は、コリメータ形状確認ユニット9をマルチリーフコリメータ8側から見た図である。取付ブラケット10の裏面には、撮像カメラ(撮像部)11と投光器(光源部)12とが隣接して取り付けられている。撮像カメラ11は、例えばCCDカメラで構成されている。撮像カメラ11は、マルチリーフコリメータ8の開口部8cの形状を確認するために、マルチリーフコリメータ8の開口部8cを撮像するものである。
 投光器12は、例えばLEDで構成され、マルチリーフコリメータ8の開口部8cに向けて光(可視光や紫外線等)を照射する。これにより、撮像カメラ11によりマルチリーフコリメータ8の開口部8cを撮像する際には、投光器12によって開口部8cが照らされることになる。また、患者コリメータ18が筐体4aに取り付けられている状態で、投光器12からマルチリーフコリメータ8に向けて光が照射されると、その光がマルチリーフコリメータ8の開口部8c及び患者コリメータ18の開口部18aを通して患者Aの体表に当たる。従って、患者Aの体表に当たる光(影)の形状を、目視で確認すると共に患者Aの腫瘍部Bの写真や画像データと比較することで、患者コリメータ18の取付方向の正否が分かるようになる。
 また、取付ブラケット10の裏面における撮像カメラ11及び投光器12に対して荷電粒子線Pの照射軸Q側の位置には、撮像カメラ11及び投光器12を荷電粒子線Pから保護するための遮蔽壁13が取り付けられている。遮蔽壁13は、鉛板等で形成されている。
 取付ブラケット10の両端部には、スライド部14がそれぞれ設けられている。また、取付ブラケット10の両側には、スライド部14を貫通し、荷電粒子線Pの照射軸Qに対して垂直な方向に延びるガイドロッド15がそれぞれ配置されている。ガイドロッド15は、筐体4aに固定されている。これにより、コリメータ形状確認ユニット9は、各ガイドロッド15に沿って、荷電粒子線Pの照射軸Qを含む照射領域Rに対応する撮像位置(図3中の2点鎖線参照)と荷電粒子線Pの照射軸Qを含む照射領域Rから離れた退避位置との間で移動可能である。なお、コリメータ形状確認ユニット9は、通常は図3に示すような退避位置にある。
 このとき、コリメータ形状確認ユニット9が図4(a)に示すように撮像位置にあるときに、投光器12の光出射口が荷電粒子線Pの照射軸Q上に位置するように、投光器12が取付ブラケット10に取り付けられていることが好ましい。これにより、マルチリーフコリメータ8の開口部8aが効率良く照らされるため、撮像カメラ11による開口部8aの形状確認を精度良く行うことができる。また、患者コリメータ18の開口部18aを通過して患者Aの体表に当たった光の形状が開口部18aと相似形になるため、この光の形状と予め画像や写真に取り込んでおいた患者Aの腫瘍部Bの形状とを比較することで、患者コリメータ18が筐体4aに正しく取り付けられていることを確認できる。
 また、コリメータ形状確認ユニット9が図4(b)に示すように退避位置にある状態では、撮像カメラ11は投光器12に対して荷電粒子線Pの照射軸Qの反対側に配置され、遮蔽壁13は投光器12に対して荷電粒子線Pの照射軸Q側に配置されている。これにより、撮像カメラ11及び投光器12を遮蔽壁13によって荷電粒子線Pから十分に保護することができる。なお、遮蔽壁13としては、投光器12よりも荷電粒子線Pの照射軸Q側のみに配置するような構造ではなく、例えば撮像カメラ11及び投光器12を取り囲むような構造等としても良い。
 また、荷電粒子線照射装置4は、図3に示すように、コリメータ形状確認ユニット9を退避位置と撮像位置との間で往復移動させる駆動部16と、撮像カメラ11、投光器12及び駆動部16と接続されたコントローラ17とを更に有している。
 駆動部16は、エアーシリンダ、空気源及び電磁弁等から構成されている。この場合には、エアーシリンダのピストンが一方のスライド部14と連結されることとなる。なお、駆動部16としては、それ以外にも、ボールネジ及び電磁モータ等で構成しても良い。
 コントローラ17は、投光器12及び駆動部16を制御すると共に、撮像カメラ11による撮像画像に基づいて、患者Aの体内の腫瘍部Bに対して荷電粒子線Pを照射するか否かを判断する。
 図5は、コントローラ17により実行される処理手順の詳細を示すフローチャートである。本処理は、患者コリメータ18が筐体4aに取り付けられていない場合の処理であり、患者Aの体内の腫瘍部Bに対して荷電粒子線Pを照射する直前に実行される。
 図5において、まずコリメータ形状確認ユニット9を退避位置から撮像位置に移動させるように駆動部16を制御する(手順S101)。続いて、投光器12からマルチリーフコリメータ8の開口部8cに向けて光を照射させるように投光器12を制御する(手順S102)。続いて、撮像カメラ11により撮像されたマルチリーフコリメータ8の開口部8cの画像を入力する(手順S103)。
 続いて、マルチリーフコリメータ8の開口部8cの画像データを、治療計画装置(図示せず)により計画されたマルチリーフコリメータ8の開口部8cの形状データと比較して、マルチリーフコリメータ8の開口部8cの形状が計画通りの形状になっているかどうかを判定する(手順S104)。
 マルチリーフコリメータ8の開口部8cの形状が計画通りの形状になっていると判定されたときは、荷電粒子線Pの照射を実施すると判断し(手順S105)、その旨を主制御装置(図示せず)に通知する。一方、マルチリーフコリメータ8の開口部8cの形状が計画通りの形状になっていないと判定されたときは、荷電粒子線Pの照射を実施しないと判断し(手順S106)、その旨を主制御装置に通知する。
 そして、手順S105,S106を実行した後、コリメータ形状確認ユニット9を撮像位置から退避位置に移動させるように駆動部16を制御する(手順S107)。
 手順S105で荷電粒子線Pの照射を実施すると判断されたときは、その後に患者Aの体内の腫瘍部Bに対して荷電粒子線Pが照射されることとなる。このとき、放射線に弱い撮像カメラ11及び投光器12は遮蔽壁13によって荷電粒子線Pから保護されているので、荷電粒子線Pが撮像カメラ11及び投光器12にダメージを与えることは殆ど無い。
 以上のように本実施形態にあっては、撮像カメラ11でマルチリーフコリメータ8の開口部8cを撮像するときは、撮像カメラ11を有するコリメータ形状確認ユニット9を退避位置から撮像位置に移動させるので、撮像カメラ11の設置位置が固定されている場合のようにマルチリーフコリメータ8と撮像カメラ11との間にハーフミラーを配置する必要が無く、マルチリーフコリメータ8の開口部8cを撮像カメラ11で直接撮像することができる。このため、撮像カメラ11による撮像画像がハーフミラーによって歪んでしまう等の不具合が生じることは無く、マルチリーフコリメータ8の開口部8cの輪郭形状が鮮明な撮像画像を得ることができる。
 これにより、マルチリーフコリメータ8の開口部8cの輪郭形状が計画通りの形状になっているかどうかが正確に分かるようになるため、マルチリーフコリメータ8の不具合等の発見を効果的に行うことが可能となる。また、マルチリーフコリメータ8の開口部8cの輪郭形状を確認するために撮像カメラ11の出力画像データを複雑に補正する必要が無いので、複雑な画像処理や演算処理を行わなくて済む。
 なお、本発明は、上記実施形態に限定されるものではない。例えば加速器は、サイクロトロンに限らず、他の加速器(シンクロトロンやシンクロサイクロトロン、ライナック等)でも良い。また、回転ガントリを用いる構成に限らず、荷電粒子線照射装置4を治療台2に対して固定した固定照射方式としても良い。
 散乱体6及び/又はリッジフィルタ7は必ずしも必要ではなく、省略しても良い。
 コリメータ形状確認ユニット9とマルチリーフコリメータ8との距離は400mm程度に限らず、他の距離としても良い。また、マルチリーフコリメータ8と患者との距離は100mm程度に限らず、他の距離としても良い。
 投光器12はLEDに限らず、他の発光体(例えば、蛍光灯や白熱灯)を用いても良い。
 撮像カメラ11はCCDカメラに限らず、他のカメラ(例えば、CMOSカメラ)を用いても良い。また、一つの取付ブラケット10に撮像カメラ11及び投光器12の双方を取り付ける構成に限らず、撮像カメラ11を取り付けるブラケットと、投光器12を取り付けるブラケットとを別々に設けても良い。
 遮蔽壁13は取付ブラケット10に取り付けられる構成に限らず、他の部品(例えば、筐体4a)に取り付けられても良い。要は、撮像カメラ11及び/又は投光器12が退避位置にある際に、撮像カメラ11及び/又は投光器12を放射線から保護できれば良い。
 取付ブラケット10は直線状に動いて撮像位置と対比位置との間で動く構成に限らず、他の軌道を描いて動く構成(例えば、アームの一端に回転軸を取り付けて、そのアームの他端にブラケットを取り付ける構成)でも良い。
 投光器12は、コリメータ形状ユニット9が撮像位置にあるときに、投光器12の光出射口が照射軸Q上に位置する構成に限らず、投光器12は照射軸Q上には位置しないような構成としても良い。
 また、上記実施形態では、撮像カメラ11及び投光器12が取り付けられる取付ブラケット13を平板状としたが、取付ブラケット13の形状としては、箱状やフレーム状等であっても良い。
 また、取付ブラケット10に撮像カメラ11、投光器12及び遮蔽壁13が取り付けられたコリメータ形状確認ユニット9を荷電粒子線Pの照射軸Qに対して進退可能となるようにしたが、撮像カメラ11のみを荷電粒子線Pの照射軸Qに対して進退可能となるようにしても良い。
 また、コントローラ17によってマルチリーフコリメータ8の開口部8cの形状が計画通りの形状になっているかどうかを判定し、荷電粒子線Pを照射するかどうかを判断するようにしたが、特にそれには限られず、オペレータがマルチリーフコリメータ8の開口部8cの撮像画像を見て、マルチリーフコリメータ8の開口部8cの形状が計画通りの形状になっているかどうかを確認し、荷電粒子線Pを照射するかどうかを決めても良い。
 また、上記実施形態で言う直接撮像とは、ハーフミラー等の反射を用いないで撮像するという意味であり、撮像画像をより鮮明にするためにマルチリーフコリメータ8と撮像カメラ11との間にシート等を挟むようなものを含むことは言うまでもない。
 本発明は荷電粒子線照射装置に利用可能である。

Claims (4)

  1.  被照射体に荷電粒子線を照射する照射部と、前記照射部から照射される荷電粒子線の照射範囲を設定するマルチリーフコリメータとを備えた荷電粒子線照射装置において、
     前記照射部と前記マルチリーフコリメータとの間において前記照射部から照射される荷電粒子線の照射軸に対して進退可能に設けられ、前記マルチリーフコリメータの開口部を直接撮像する撮像部と、
     前記荷電粒子線の照射軸を含む照射領域に対応する撮像位置と前記照射領域から離れた退避位置との間で前記撮像部を移動させる駆動部とを備えることを特徴とする荷電粒子線照射装置。
  2.  前記撮像部は、前記荷電粒子線の照射軸に対して進退可能な取付ブラケットに取り付けられており、
     前記駆動部は、前記取付ブラケットを前記撮像位置と前記退避位置との間で移動させ、
     前記取付ブラケットが前記退避位置にあるときに前記取付ブラケットにおける前記撮像部よりも前記荷電粒子線の照射軸側には、前記撮像部を前記荷電粒子線から保護するための遮蔽壁が設けられていることを特徴とする請求項1記載の荷電粒子線照射装置。
  3.  前記取付ブラケットには、前記マルチリーフコリメータの開口部に光を照射する光源部が更に取り付けられていることを特徴とする請求項2記載の荷電粒子線照射装置。
  4.  前記光源部は、前記取付ブラケットが前記撮像位置にあるときに前記荷電粒子線の照射軸上に位置するように、前記取付ブラケットに取り付けられていることを特徴とする請求項3記載の荷電粒子線照射装置。
