Description

冷却システム
 本発明は冷却システムに関し、特に内燃機関とスターリングエンジンとを備える冷却システムに関する。
 内燃機関およびスターリングエンジンに共通の冷却媒体を流通させる技術が知られている。特許文献1では、冷却回路を備える水冷式内燃機関と、冷却回路を循環する冷却水により作動ガスを冷却する冷却器を備えるスターリング機関とを備える動力装置が開示されている。このほか構成上、本発明と関連性があると考えられる技術が例えば特許文献2から4で開示されている。

 内燃機関およびスターリングエンジンに共通の冷却媒体を流通させる場合、冷却媒体を圧送するポンプや、冷却媒体を冷却するラジエータを共通化することができる。そしてこれにより、コスト面で有利な構成とすることができる。共通の冷却媒体を流通させるには、内燃機関に冷却媒体を流通させる主通路部に対し、分岐後、再び合流する分岐通路部を設けるとともに、分岐通路部にスターリングエンジンを介在させるようにして設けることができる。
 ところがこの場合、主通路部のうち、分岐通路部が分岐する部分よりも後の部分、且つ分岐通路部が合流する部分よりも前の部分を流通する冷却水の流通抵抗が小さいと、分岐通路部に冷却媒体が流通し難くなる。結果、スターリングエンジンの実効的な冷却を確保できないことがある。また、スターリングエンジンでは低温熱源と高温熱源の温度差が大きい場合ほど大きな出力を得られる一方で、大きな出力を取り出すことが必ずしも容易ではない。このため、実効的な冷却を確保するにあたっては、可能な限り温度が低い冷却媒体をスターリングエンジンに流通させることが望ましい。そして、例えばこれらの点で、内燃機関およびスターリングエンジンに共通の冷却媒体を好適に流通させることが可能な技術が望まれる。
 本発明は上記課題に鑑み、内燃機関およびスターリングエンジンに共通の冷却媒体を好適に流通させることが可能な冷却システムを提供することを目的とする。
 本発明は冷却媒体を流通させる内燃機関と、前記内燃機関に冷却媒体を圧送するポンプと、前記内燃機関を流通した冷却媒体を冷却するラジエータと、前記ラジエ-タから前記ポンプを介して前記内燃機関に冷却媒体を流通させる主通路部と、冷却媒体を流通させるスターリングエンジンと、前記主通路部から第1の接続地点で分岐するとともに、前記スターリングエンジンを介して、前記主通路部のうち、前記第1の接続地点よりも下流側の部分に第2の接続地点で合流する分岐通路部と、前記主通路部を流通する冷却媒体の流通抵抗として作用する抵抗部と、を備え、前記主通路部のうち、前記ラジエータと前記ポンプとの間の部分に前記第1の接続地点と前記第2の接続地点とを設けるとともに、前記主通路部のうち、前記第1の接続地点と前記第2の接続地点との間の部分に、前記抵抗部を介在させるようにして設けている冷却システムである。
 また本発明は前記ラジエータをバイパスさせるようにして、前記内燃機関を流通した冷却媒体を流通させるバイパス通路部をさらに備え、前記抵抗部が、前記ラジエータに冷却媒体を流通させる場合と、前記バイパス通路部に冷却媒体を流通させる場合との間で、冷却媒体の流量の割合を調節することで、前記内燃機関に流通させる冷却媒体の温度を調節可能なバイパス弁付きサーモスタットである構成とすることができる。
 また本発明は前記抵抗部が、流通する冷却媒体の流量の絞り度合いを変更可能な可変絞り弁である構成とすることができる。
 また本発明は前記分岐通路部が形成する通路の断面積が、前記主通路部が形成する通路の断面積よりも小さく設定されている構成とすることができる。
 また本発明は前記抵抗部を含み、前記内燃機関の運転状態に応じて、前記内燃機関に流通させる冷却媒体の流量と、前記スターリングエンジンに流通させる冷却媒体の流量との割合を変更可能な流量割合変更部をさらに備える構成とすることができる。

 図面を用いて、本発明の実施例について説明する。
 図1は冷却システム1Aの概略構成図である。冷却システム1Aは、内燃機関10と、スターリングエンジン20と、ポンプ31と、ラジエータ32と、サーモスタット33とを備えている。また、主通路部41と、バイパス通路部42と、分岐通路部43とを備えている。これら通路部41、42、43は配管であり、冷却媒体である冷却水を流通させる通路を形成している。通路部41、42、43に沿った矢印は冷却水の流通方向を示す。
 内燃機関10は水冷式の内燃機関であり、冷却水を流通させる。ポンプ31は冷却水を圧送する。ラジエータ32は流通する冷却水と空気との間で熱交換を行い、冷却水を冷却する。サーモスタット33は内燃機関10に流通させる冷却水の温度を調節する。サーモスタット33は冷却水の温度に応じて作動する機械式の弁となっている。
 内燃機関10、ポンプ31、ラジエータ32およびサーモスタット33は、主通路部41に介在させるようにして設けられている。主通路部41は、ポンプ31が圧送する冷却水を内燃機関10、ラジエータ32およびサーモスタット33の順に流通させ、その後、ポンプ31に戻す循環経路を形成している。
 したがって、ポンプ31は内燃機関10に冷却水を圧送する。また、ラジエータ32は内燃機関10を流通した冷却水を冷却する。そして、主通路部41はラジエ-タ32からポンプ31を介して内燃機関10に冷却水を流通させる。ポンプ31は内燃機関10に設けられており、内燃機関10の動力で駆動する機械式のポンプとなっている。ポンプ31は電動ポンプであってもよい。
 バイパス通路部42は主通路部41に対して設けられている。バイパス通路部42はラジエータ32をバイパスする経路を形成している。このため、バイパス通路部42はラジエータ32をバイパスさせるようにして、内燃機関10を流通した冷却水を流通させる。
 サーモスタット33は主通路部41とバイパス通路部42との合流地点に設けられている。サーモスタット33は具体的には、ラジエータ32に冷却水を流通させる場合と、バイパス通路部42に冷却水を流通させる場合との間で、冷却水の流量の割合を調節することで、内燃機関10に流通させる冷却水の温度を調節可能なバイパス弁付きサーモスタットとなっている。
 冷却水の流量の割合を調節するにあたり、サーモスタット33は内燃機関10の冷間始動後、暖機が完了するまでの間、すなわち冷却水温が適温(例えば80℃)になるまでの間は、ラジエータ32に冷却水を流通させないように作動する。また、暖機完了後は、内燃機関10に流通させる冷却水の温度が高くなる場合(例えば内燃機関10の負荷が高い場合)ほど、ラジエータ32に流通させる冷却水の流量の割合を大きくするように作動する。サーモスタット33は内燃機関10の冷間始動後、暖機が完了するまでの間、ラジエータ32に冷却水を少量流通させるように作動してもよい。
 分岐通路部43は主通路部41に対して設けられている。分岐通路部43には、スターリングエンジン20を介在させるようにして設けている。分岐通路部43が形成する通路の断面積は、主通路部41が形成する通路の断面積よりも小さく設定されている。具体的には、分岐通路部43が形成する通路の径が、主通路部41が形成する通路の径よりも小さく設定されている。
 分岐通路部43は、主通路部41から第1の接続地点P1で分岐するとともに、スターリングエンジン20を介して、主通路部41のうち、第1の接続地点P1よりも下流側の部分に第2の接続地点P2で合流している。分岐通路部43は、第1の接続地点P1で分岐することで、ラジエータ32で冷却された冷却水が直接的に流通するようになっている。
 接続地点P1、P2は、主通路部41のうち、ラジエータ32とポンプ31との間の部分に設けられている。これに対し、サーモスタット33は主通路部41のうち、接続地点P1、P2間の部分に介在させるようにして設けられている。このように設けられたサーモスタット33は、主通路部41を流通する冷却水の流通抵抗として作用する抵抗部に相当する。
 スターリングエンジン20は冷却器20aと加熱器20bとを備えている。スターリングエンジン20は冷却水を流通させる。具体的には冷却器20aに冷却水を流通させる。冷却器20aは冷却水と作動流体との間で熱交換を行い、作動流体を冷却する。一方、加熱器20bは作動流体と内燃機関10の排気ガスとの間で熱交換を行い、作動流体を加熱する。
 スターリングエンジン20において、冷却水はスターリングエンジン20の低温熱源を構成し、排気ガスはスターリングエンジン20の高温熱源を構成する。このため、冷却器20aを流通する冷却水の温度を低下させるほど、低温熱源と高温熱源との温度差を拡大できる。したがって、冷却器20aを流通する冷却水の温度を低下させることで、スターリングエンジン20の出力を高めることができる。
 次に冷却システム1Aの作用効果について説明する。冷却システム1Aは、接続地点P1、P2を主通路部41のうち、ラジエータ32とポンプ31との間の部分に設けている。また、流通抵抗として作用するサーモスタット33を主通路部41のうち、接続地点P1、P2間の部分に介在させるようにして設けている。また、分岐通路部43を第1の接続地点P1で分岐させている。
 このため、冷却システム1Aはポンプ31の作動のみで接続地点P1、P2間に圧力差を生じさせることができる。そしてこれにより、分岐通路部43に冷却水を流通させることができる。また、冷却システム1Aは、冷却システム1Aを流通する冷却水の中で、最も温度が低くなっている状態の冷却水をスターリングエンジン20に流通させることができる。このため、冷却システム1Aはスターリングエンジン20の実効的な冷却を確保できる点で、内燃機関10およびスターリングエンジン20に共通の冷却水を好適に流通させることができる。
 冷却システム1Aは、内燃機関10に流通させる冷却水の温度を調節するために一般に用いられるサーモスタット33を抵抗部としている。このため、冷却システム1Aはコスト面で有利な構成とすることができる点でも、冷却水を好適に流通させることができる。
 冷却システム1Aでは、サーモスタット33が、ラジエータ32に冷却水を流通させる場合と、ラジエータ32に流通させる冷却水をバイパスさせる場合との間で、冷却水の流量の割合を調節する。この点、サーモスタット33は内燃機関10の暖機が完了するまでの間は、ラジエータ32に冷却水を流通させないようにする。このため、冷却システム1Aはスターリングエンジン20の実効的な冷却を確保しつつ、内燃機関10の暖機促進を図ることができる点でも、冷却水を好適に流通させることができる。
 冷却システム1Aでは、サーモスタット33が、暖機完了後に内燃機関10に流通させる冷却水の温度が高くなる場合ほど、ラジエータ32に流通させる冷却水の流量の割合を大きくする。そしてこれにより、サーモスタット33が相対的に小さな流通抵抗として作用する。
 このため、冷却システム1Aは内燃機関10を冷却する必要性が高い場合に、内燃機関10を適切に冷却できる。そして、同時にその余力でスターリングエンジン20を冷却することができる。したがって、冷却システム1Aは内燃機関10を冷却する必要性が高い場合に内燃機関10の冷却を確保しつつ、スターリングエンジン20を冷却できる点でも、好適に流通させることができる。
 冷却システム1Aでは、分岐通路部43が形成する通路の断面積が、主通路部41が形成する通路の断面積よりも小さく設定されている。このため、冷却システム1Aは内燃機関10およびスターリングエンジン20に共通の冷却水を流通させるにあたり、内燃機関10に優先的に冷却水を流通させることができる。結果、これにより内燃機関10を冷却する必要性が高い場合に、内燃機関10の冷却を確保できる点でも、冷却水を好適に流通させることができる。
 サーモスタット33は電子制御弁であってもよい。この場合には、例えば内燃機関10の冷却水温と負荷とに基づき、上述したのと同様にサーモスタット33の作動を制御する電子制御装置をさらに備えることで、同様の作用効果を奏することができる。これは、以下の実施例についても同様である。
 図2は冷却システム1Bの概略構成図である。冷却システム1Bは絞り弁34をさらに備えている点以外、冷却システム1Aと実質的に同一である。絞り弁34は分岐通路部43に介在させるようにして設けられている。具体的には、絞り弁34は分岐通路部43のうち、スターリングエンジン20よりも上流側の部分に介在させるようにして設けられている。絞り弁34は流通する冷却水の流量を絞ることで、絞り弁34を設けていない場合よりも、分岐通路部43を流通する冷却水の流量を小さくする。
 次に冷却システム1Bの作用効果について説明する。ここで、例えば暖機完了後で内燃機関10の負荷が小さい場合には、サーモスタット33を相対的に大きな流通抵抗として作用させることで、次のようにして内燃機関10の冷却を適切に行うことが考えられる。すなわち、ラジエータ32に流通させる冷却水の流量の割合を相対的に小さくし、これによりラジエータ32を介して流通する冷却水と、バイパス通路部42を介して流通する冷却水とを混合して内燃機関10に供給することで、内燃機関10の冷却を適切に行うことが考えられる。
 ところがこの場合、分岐通路部43の流通抵抗が小さいと、サーモスタット33で制限しようとする流量を上回る流量の冷却水がラジエータ32を流通し、その後、分岐通路部43に流入する虞がある。結果、分岐通路部43に流入した冷却水がその後、内燃機関10に到達することで、内燃機関10が過冷却される虞がある。
 これに対し、冷却システム1Bは絞り弁34で分岐通路部43を流通する冷却水の流量を小さくする。そしてこれにより、サーモスタット33が相対的に大きな流通抵抗として作用する場合でも、内燃機関10が過冷却されることを防止できる。このため、冷却システム1Bは冷却システム1Aと比較して、さらにサーモスタット33が相対的に大きな流通抵抗として作用する場合に内燃機関10を適切に冷却できる点で、内燃機関10およびスターリングエンジン20に冷却水を好適に流通させることができる。
 図3は冷却システム1Cの概略構成図である。冷却システム1Cは、絞り弁34の代わりに可変絞り弁35を備えている点以外、冷却システム1Bと実質的に同一である。可変絞り弁35は絞り弁34と同様にして分岐通路部43に設けられている。可変絞り弁35は流通する冷却水の流量の絞り度合いを変更する。この点、可変絞り弁35は冷却水の圧力に応じて作動する機械式の弁になっている。可変絞り弁35は冷却水の温度に応じて作動する機械式の弁であってもよい。
 可変絞り弁35は、サーモスタット33が相対的に小さな流通抵抗として作用する場合ほど、大きな度合いで開弁することで、流通する冷却水の流量の絞り度合いを変更するように作動する。
 図4は冷却水の第1の流通態様を示す図である。図5は冷却水の第2の流通態様を示す図である。図6は冷却水の第3の流通態様を示す図である。図4は機関冷間時の流通態様、図5は内燃機関10の負荷が軽中負荷である場合の流通態様、図6は内燃機関10の負荷が高負荷である場合の流通態様を示す。図4、図5、図6において、主通路部41、バイパス通路部42または分岐通路部43に重ねて示す矢印は、冷却水の流通態様を示す。また、矢印の太さは流量の大きさを示す。一方、破線で示す主通路部41、バイパス通路部42または分岐通路部43は、冷却水が流通していない状態を示す。
 図4に示すように、機関冷間時にはポンプ31から吐出された冷却水が、内燃機関10を流通した後、主通路部41を流通する。そして、主通路部41を流通するすべての冷却水が途中でバイパス通路部42に流入する。バイパス通路部42に流入した冷却水は、サーモスタット33を介して主通路部41に再び流入し、ポンプ31に戻る。したがって、このときラジエータ32に冷却水は流通しない。同時に分岐通路部43およびスターリングエンジン20にも冷却水は流通しない。このとき前述の通り、ラジエータ32に少量の冷却水を流通させてもよい。
 図5に示すように、内燃機関10の負荷が軽中負荷である場合には、ポンプ31から吐出された冷却水が、内燃機関10を流通した後、主通路部41を流通する。そして、主通路部41を流通する冷却水の一部が途中でバイパス通路部42に分流する。バイパス通路部42に分流した冷却水は、サーモスタット33を介して主通路部41に再び流入し、ポンプ31に戻る。
 一方、分流しなかった冷却水はラジエータ32を流通する。そしてその後、その冷却水の一部が分岐通路部43に分流する。分岐通路部43に分流しなかった冷却水は、サーモスタット33を介してポンプ31に戻る。一方、分岐通路部43に分流した冷却水は、可変絞り弁35およびスターリングエンジン20を流通した後、主通路部41に再び流入し、ポンプ31に戻る。このとき、可変絞り弁35は相対的に小さな度合いで開弁しており、スターリングエンジン20に必要以上に冷却水を流通させないようにしている。
 図6に示すように、例えば全負荷運転時など内燃機関10の負荷が高負荷である場合には、ポンプ31から吐出された冷却水が、内燃機関10を流通した後、主通路部41を流通する。そして、すべての冷却水がバイパス通路部42に分流することなく、ラジエータ32に流入する。ラジエータ32を流通後、冷却水は分岐通路部43に分流し、サーモスタット33或いは分岐通路部43を介してポンプ31に戻る。このとき、可変絞り弁35は相対的に大きな度合い(例えば全開)で開弁している。
 サーモスタット33と可変絞り弁35とは、内燃機関10の運転状態に応じて、内燃機関10に流通させる冷却水の流量と、スターリングエンジン20に流通させる冷却水の流量との割合を変更可能な流量割合変更部に相当する。
 次に冷却システム1Cの作用効果について説明する。図7はスターリングエンジン20入口の冷却水の温度Ts_inと内燃機関10の負荷との関係を示す図である。図7において、温度T1はラジエータ32入口の冷却水温、温度T2は内燃機関10入口の冷却水温、温度T3は外気温度を示す。温度T1は例えば100℃、温度T2は例えば80℃、温度T3は例えば40℃である。
 冷却システム1Cでは、内燃機関10の負荷が軽中負荷である場合に、サーモスタット33が冷却水の一部をバイパス通路部42に分流させることで、ラジエータ32を流通する冷却水の流量を小さくする。また、このときサーモスタット33が相対的に大きな流通抵抗として作用しても、可変絞り弁35が相対的に小さな度合いで開弁する。
 このため、冷却システム1Cは内燃機関10の負荷が軽中負荷である場合には、内燃機関10の冷却に対し大きな余力を有するように冷却水を冷却することができる。また、ラジエータ32で冷却された冷却水を内燃機関10とスターリングエンジン20とに流通させることができる。
 そしてこれにより、ラジエータ32で冷却された冷却水とラジエータ32をバイパスさせた冷却水とを混合し、内燃機関10に流通させることで、温度T2を適温にすることができる。また、内燃機関10の冷却に対し大きな余力を有するように冷却した冷却水をスターリングエンジン20に流通させることで、温度Ts_inを温度T2と比較して大幅に低下させることができる。
 冷却システム1Cでは、内燃機関10の負荷が高負荷である場合に、サーモスタット33がすべての冷却水をラジエータ32に流通させる。また、このときサーモスタット33が相対的に小さな流通抵抗として作用しても、可変絞り弁35が相対的に大きな度合いで開弁する。
 このため、冷却システム1Cは内燃機関10の負荷が高負荷である場合でも、ラジエータ32で冷却された冷却水を内燃機関10に優先的に流通させつつ、内燃機関10の負荷が軽中負荷である場合よりも大きな流量でスターリングエンジン20にも冷却水を流通させることができる。そしてこれにより、内燃機関10の冷却を優先しつつ、スターリングエンジン20を冷却することもできる。
 このように、冷却システム1Cは内燃機関10の運転状態に応じて内燃機関10およびスターリングエンジン20に適切に冷却水を流通させることができる点で、冷却システム1Bと比較してさらに好適に冷却水を流通させることができる。
 可変絞り弁35は電子制御弁であってもよい。この場合には、例えば内燃機関10の冷却水温と負荷とに基づき、上述したのと同様に可変絞り弁35の作動を制御する電子制御装置をさらに備えることで、同様の作用効果を奏することができる。
 以上、本発明の実施例について詳述したが、本発明はかかる特定の実施例に限定されるものではなく、特許請求の範囲に記載された本発明の要旨の範囲内において、種々の変形・変更が可能である。
 例えば抵抗部は可変絞り弁であってもよい。この場合でも、スターリングエンジンの実効的な冷却を確保できる。また、内燃機関に流通させる冷却媒体の温度が高くなる場合ほど、流通する冷却媒体の流量が大きくなるように絞りの度合いを変更することで、内燃機関を冷却する必要性が高い場合に内燃機関の冷却を確保しつつ、スターリングエンジンを冷却できる。

  1. 冷却媒体を流通させる内燃機関と、
     前記内燃機関に冷却媒体を圧送するポンプと、
     前記内燃機関を流通した冷却媒体を冷却するラジエータと、
     前記ラジエ-タから前記ポンプを介して前記内燃機関に冷却媒体を流通させる主通路部と、
     冷却媒体を流通させるスターリングエンジンと、
     前記主通路部から第1の接続地点で分岐するとともに、前記スターリングエンジンを介して、前記主通路部のうち、前記第1の接続地点よりも下流側の部分に第2の接続地点で合流する分岐通路部と、
     前記主通路部を流通する冷却媒体の流通抵抗として作用する抵抗部と、を備え、
     前記主通路部のうち、前記ラジエータと前記ポンプとの間の部分に前記第1の接続地点と前記第2の接続地点とを設けるとともに、前記主通路部のうち、前記第1の接続地点と前記第2の接続地点との間の部分に、前記抵抗部を介在させるようにして設けている冷却システム。
  2. 請求項1記載の冷却システムであって、
     前記ラジエータをバイパスさせるようにして、前記内燃機関を流通した冷却媒体を流通させるバイパス通路部をさらに備え、
     前記抵抗部が、前記ラジエータに冷却媒体を流通させる場合と、前記バイパス通路部に冷却媒体を流通させる場合との間で、冷却媒体の流量の割合を調節することで、前記内燃機関に流通させる冷却媒体の温度を調節可能なバイパス弁付きサーモスタットである冷却システム。
  3. 請求項1記載の冷却システムであって、
     前記抵抗部が、流通する冷却媒体の流量の絞り度合いを変更可能な可変絞り弁である冷却システム。
  4. 請求項1から3いずれか1項記載の冷却システムであって、
     前記分岐通路部が形成する通路の断面積が、前記主通路部が形成する通路の断面積よりも小さく設定されている冷却システム。
  5. 請求項1から4いずれか1項記載の冷却システムであって、
     前記抵抗部を含み、前記内燃機関の運転状態に応じて、前記内燃機関に流通させる冷却媒体の流量と、前記スターリングエンジンに流通させる冷却媒体の流量との割合を変更可能な流量割合変更部をさらに備える冷却システム。
