Abstract
本発明は、被覆ゴムを構成するゴム組成物中にコバルト塩を含有しない場合であっても、スチールコードとの接着性に優れ、モジュラスの低下を抑えることができるスチールコード・ゴム複合体を提供することを目的とする。 本発明のスチールコード・ゴム複合体は、遊離酸を10質量%以下含有する有機酸金属塩を配合したゴム組成物を、スチールコードに被覆してなることを特徴とする。
Description
本発明は、スチールコード・ゴム複合体、特に、被覆ゴムを構成するゴム組成物中にコバルト塩を含有しない場合であっても、スチールコードとの接着性に優れ、モジュラスの低下を抑えることができるスチールコード・ゴム複合体に関する。
自動車用タイヤ、コンベアベルト、ホース等、特に強度が要求されるゴム物品には、ゴムを補強して強度及び耐久性を向上させる目的で、スチールコード等の金属補強材を被覆ゴムで被覆したスチールコード・ゴム複合体が用いられている。ここで、かかるスチールコード・ゴム複合体が高い補強効果を発揮し、信頼性を得るためには、該被覆ゴムと金属補強材との間に安定且つ強力な接着が必要である。
被覆ゴムと金属補強材との間に安定且つ強力な接着性を有するスチールコード・ゴム複合体を得るため、亜鉛、真鍮等でめっきされたスチールコード等の金属補強材を硫黄を配合した被覆ゴムに埋設し、加熱加硫時にゴムの加硫と同時にこれらを接着させる、いわゆる直接加硫接着が広く用いられている。これまで、該直接加硫接着による上記被覆ゴムと金属補強材との間の接着性向上のため、該直接加硫接着に関する様々な検討が行われている。
例えば、特許文献1に開示されているように、使用するスチールワイヤ及びスチールコードの表面を酸性或いはアルカリ性の溶液で洗浄し、接着反応阻害剤であるリン化合物(スチールコード製造時使用の潤滑剤由来)を除去することで被覆ゴムとの接着性を向上させる技術がある。
しかしながら、上記溶液は酸性又はアルカリ性の溶液であり環境上の点からは別の材料を用いたほうが好ましく。更に、製造プロセスを考慮すれば、中性領域の溶液で処理する方法が安全上好ましい。

また、特許文献2に開示されているように、ブラスめっきしたスチールワイヤを湿式伸線して製造された複数本のフィラメントを撚り合わせてなるスチールコード・ゴム複合体補強用スチールコードの製造方法において、スチールワイヤ伸線時に使用する湿式潤滑剤中に、スチールコードと被覆ゴムの接着改良剤として考えられているレゾルシンを添加することにより、フィラメント表面にレゾルシンを付着させる方法がある。
しかしながら、該スチールフィラメント伸線時の発熱によりレゾルシンが変質してしまうことから、スチールコードと被覆ゴムとの接着耐久性の向上についてはさらなる向上が望まれている。

一方、一般にタイヤ等に用いられている直接加硫接着における被覆ゴムと金属補強剤との初期接着性を向上させるために、被覆ゴムに接着プロモーターであるコバルト塩を配合したゴム組成物を用いることが公知になっている。しかしながら、コバルト塩を配合したゴム組成物からなる被覆ゴムの場合、コバルト塩を配合していないゴム組成物からなる被覆ゴムに比べて、被覆ゴムの劣化及び亀裂成長性等に対する耐久性に大きなデメリットがある。
そのため、例えば特許文献3に開示されているように、ブラスめっきを周面に施したスチールワイヤを複数本撚り合わせてなるスチールコードを、所定量のホウ素含有化合物を配合してなるゴム組成物を用いた被覆ゴムで被覆することで、被覆ゴムにコバルトを含まない場合でも良好なスチールゴムとの接着性を確保できるという技術がある。
特許文献3に開示された技術について検討したところ、一定のスチールコードと被覆ゴムとの接着性を確保できるものの、近年、さらなる接着性の向上が望まれている。
加えて、被覆ゴムを構成するゴム組成物中にはコバルトを含まないため、モジュラス低下の抑制についても、さらなる改善が望まれている。

そこで、本発明は、被覆ゴムを構成するゴム組成物中にコバルト塩を含有しない場合であっても、スチールコードとの接着性に優れ、モジュラスの低下を抑えることができるスチールコード・ゴム複合体を提供することを目的とする。
本発明者は、上記目的を達成するために鋭意検討した結果、スチールコードを被覆するゴム組成物中に、有機酸金属塩を配合し、さらに、該有機酸金属塩に含有する遊離酸を低くすることで、上記ゴム組成物の上記スチールコードと接触する面に存在する接着層(硫化銅など)の溶解を抑制し、有機酸金属塩を配合することによって一定のモジュラスを確保できる結果、優れた密着性を実現し、モジュラスの低下を抑制できることを見出し、本発明を完成するに至った。
即ち、本発明のスチールコード・ゴム複合体は、遊離酸を10質量%以下含有する有機酸金属塩を配合したゴム組成物を、スチールコードに被覆してなることを特徴とする。
また、本発明のスチールコード・ゴム複合体においては、上記有機酸金属の金属が亜鉛であり、有機酸がステアリン酸であることが好ましい。
本発明のスチールコード・ゴム複合体の好適例においては、上記ゴム組成物は、ゴム成分100質量部に対して、上記有機酸金属塩を0.5~5質量部配合し、硫黄を1~10質量部配合する。また、加硫促進剤として、N-シクロヘキシル-2-ベンゾチアゾールスルフェンアミドをさらに配合することがより好ましい。
さらに、本発明のスチールコード・ゴム複合体におけるゴム組成物中の遊離酸の含有量が0.25質量%以下であることが好ましい。
また、本発明のスチールコード・ゴム複合体における上記スチールコードは、Zn及びCuを除く遷移金属の濃度が0.01質量%以上、リン濃度が2.5質量%以下、及び亜鉛濃度が15質量%以下であるブラスめっきを周面に施したスチールワイヤを、複数本撚り合せてなることが好ましい。
さらにまた、上記スチールコードは、上記ブラスめっきを施したスチールワイヤを、伸線加工し、その後、遷移金属の塩を含む水溶液を用いて洗浄を施したものであることが好ましく、上記遷移金属がコバルトであることがより好ましく、上記遷移金属塩が、塩化コバルト、硝酸コバルト、硫酸コバルト、酢酸コバルト、クエン酸コバルト、グルコン酸コバルト又はアセチルアセトナトコバルトであることが最も好ましい。
本発明によれば、被覆ゴムを構成するゴム組成物中にコバルト塩を含有しない場合であっても、スチールコードとの接着性に優れ、モジュラスの低下を抑えることができるスチールコード・ゴム複合体を提供することができる。
本発明によるスチールコード・ゴム複合体は、添加剤として、遊離酸を10質量%以下含有する有機酸金属塩を配合したゴム組成物を、スチールコードに被覆してなる。
上記構成を採用することで、金属と有機酸との活性化によってゴム組成物の接着力を強化でき、さらに、有機酸金属塩中の遊離酸が被服ゴムであるスチールコードとの接触面に形成される接着層(硫化銅など)を溶かすことを抑制できる結果、ゴム組成物中にコバルト塩を含有しない場合であっても、スチールコードとの優れた接着性が得られる。加えて、上記ゴム組成物中に配合された有機酸金属によって、ゴム物性を高めることが可能となり、コバルトを配合しない場合であっても、モジュラスの低下を有効に抑制することができる。
なお、上記有機酸金属塩中の遊離酸の含有量が10質量%を超える場合、遊離酸によって上記接着層が溶解される結果、十分な接着力を得ることができない。また、遊離酸含有率が少ないほど接着性は良好になることから、有機酸金属塩中の遊離酸含有率は、0~5質量%の範囲とすることが好ましく、0~1質量%の範囲とすることがさらに好ましい。
さらに、本発明によるゴム組成物全体における遊離酸の含有量は、0.25質量%以下であることが最も好ましい。0.25質量%を超えると、上記有機酸金属塩中の遊離酸の含有率が十分に低い場合であっても、上記接着層が溶解され、十分な接着力を得ることができないおそれがある。
さらに、本発明によるゴム組成物全体における遊離酸の含有量は、0.25質量%以下であることが最も好ましい。0.25質量%を超えると、上記有機酸金属塩中の遊離酸の含有率が十分に低い場合であっても、上記接着層が溶解され、十分な接着力を得ることができないおそれがある。
また、上記有機酸金属塩については、上記有機酸によって活性化され、ゴム組成物の接着力を強化でき、且つ、ゴム組成物中に含まれることで、ゴム組成物のモジュラスの低下を抑えることができるものであれば特に限定されるものではないが、当該効果を有効に発揮できるという点から、金属は亜鉛であることが好ましい。
同様に、上記効果を有効に発揮できるという点から、上記有機酸はステアリン酸であることが好ましい。

また、本発明のスチールコード・ゴム複合体においては、ゴム成分100質量部に対して、上記有機酸金属塩を0.5~5質量部配合することが好ましい。上記有機酸金属塩の配合量がゴム成分に対して0.5質量部未満の場合、配合量が少なすぎるため十分な本発明の効果(スチールコードとの接着性に優れ、モジュラスの低下を抑えることができる)を奏することができないおそれがあり、一方、上記配合量がゴム成分に対して5質量部を超えると、配合量が多すぎるためゴム中の遊離酸量が増加し、本発明の効果が得られなくなることに加えて、ゴム中に溶解できなかったステアリン酸亜鉛が亀裂の起点となるおそれがある。
さらに、本発明のスチールコード・ゴム複合体においては、上記ゴム組成物が、さらに硫黄をゴム成分100質量部に対し1~10質量部含むことが好ましく、2~8質量部含むことが更に好ましく、4~6質量部含むことがより好ましい。ここで、被覆ゴムの硫黄含有量がゴム成分100質量部に対して1質量部未満であると初期接着性等に対する十分な効果が期待できない場合があり、また、10質量部を超えるとゴム物性が低下する場合がある。
さらにまた、上記ゴム組成物は、加硫速度を向上させるための促進剤として、N-シクロヘキシル-2-ベンゾチアゾールスルフェンアミドをさらに配合することが好ましい。
その配合量については、ゴム成分100質量部に対して、0.01~2質量部の範囲とすることが好ましい。

また、上記ゴム組成物は、コバルトを含まないことが好適である。コバルトを含まないゴム組成物を用いた被覆ゴムは、コバルトを含むゴム組成物を用いた被覆ゴムに比べて、熱、湿度及び酸素による劣化や亀裂成長性が抑制されるため、耐久性向上を図ることができるからである。
さらに、上記ゴム組成物には、ゴム成分として、特に限定されないが、例えば、天然ゴム、ポリブタジエンゴム、ポリイソプレンゴム、エチレン-プロピレン共重合体、イソブチレン-イソプレン共重合体、ポリクロロプレン等のジエン系ゴムを配合してもよい。これらは単独で配合してもよく、二種以上を組み合わせて配合してもよい。
さらにまた、上記ゴム組成物には、必要に応じて、樹脂、カーボンブラック、プロセスオイル等の油分、加硫剤、加硫促進剤、老化防止剤、軟化剤、酸化亜鉛、及びステアリン酸等のゴム業界で通常使用される添加剤を、本発明の目的を害しない範囲内で適宜選択して配合できる。
本発明のスチールコード・ゴム複合体に使用するゴム組成物は、ゴム成分に有機酸金属塩を配合し、必要に応じて上記成分を加えて、常法により混練り、熱入れ及び押し出しすることにより製造することができる。
また、上記スチールコードは、Zn及びCuを除く遷移金属の濃度が0.01質量%以上、リン濃度が2.5質量%以下、及び亜鉛濃度が15質量%以下であるブラスめっきを周面に施したスチールワイヤを、複数本撚り合せてなることが好ましい。上記ブラスめっきの犠牲防食効果によって、上記スチールコードの耐食性能が向上するためである。
また、上記スチールコードは、上記ブラスめっきを施したスチールワイヤを、伸線加工し、その後、遷移金属の塩を含む水溶液を用いて洗浄を施したものであることが好ましい。このように、ブラスめっきを施したスチールワイヤ、又はブラスめっきを施したスチールワイヤを撚り合わせてなるスチールコードの表面を、遷移金属塩、特にコバルト塩を含む水溶液で洗浄すると、スチールワイヤの表面が経時的に酸化されて生成し、被覆ゴムとの接着を阻害するZnO層が溶解してCu/Zn層が露出する。そのため、スチールコード・ゴム複合体の加硫時に該Cu/Zn層からCuが引き出されて被覆ゴム中に形成される硫化銅(CuxS、xは1又は2)によって、上記スチールコードと被覆ゴムとの初期接着性を向上させることができる。それ故、スチールコードを被覆する被覆ゴム中に、上記のように被覆ゴムの耐久性を低下させる原因になるコバルト等の遷移金属塩を被覆ゴムに添加しない場合であっても、上記ゴム組成物と上記スチールコードとの初期接着性を改善することが可能になる。
また、上記ブラスめっきの膜厚については、0.1~10nmの程度であることが好ましい。0.1nm未満の場合、めっきが十分に形成されていないため、犠牲防食効果を十分に発揮できずスチールコードの耐食性が低下するおそれがあることに加えて、上記ゴム組成物との密着性についても十分に確保することができないおそれがある。一方、めっきの膜厚が10 nmを超える場合、めっきが厚くなりすぎるためであることに加えて、めっきによる防食効果が飽和し、経済的でない。
本発明において、上記遷移金属とは、周期律表の第4周期のスカンジウム(Sc)から亜鉛まで、第5周期のイットリウム(Y)からカドミウム(Cd)まで、及び第6周期のルテチウム(Lu)から水銀(Hg)までの金属元素を指す。
また、上記スチールワイヤの洗浄において、上記遷移金属としては、上記ゴム組成物とめっきしたスチールコードとの接着プロモーターとして働くコバルトを用いることが好ましい。具体的なコバルト塩としては、塩化コバルト、硝酸コバルト、硫酸コバルト、酢酸コバルト、クエン酸コバルト、グルコン酸コバルト又はコバルトアセチルアセトナートが好適である。
上記洗浄に用いる水溶液のpHは5~8が好ましい。該水溶液のpHは、これ以上でも以下でもめっきに悪影響を及ぼすため、スチールコードとゴム組成物との接着性が低下する。更に、環境負荷の観点からも、上記洗浄に用いる水溶液のpHは5~8の中性領域の範囲が好ましい。洗浄条件は、例えば、酢酸コバルト含有水溶液の場合、10g/Lの濃度で洗浄時間は30~60秒が好ましく、該洗浄時間は水溶液の濃度に応じて適宜決定できる。
本発明のスチールコード・ゴム複合体は、特に限定されるものではないが、タイヤ、動伝達ベルト、コンベアベルト及びホース等の各種ゴム製品や部品類の製造に広く使用することができる。
また、補強材として本発明のスチールコード・ゴム複合体を適用したことを特徴とするタイヤを製造することもできる。また、本発明のタイヤは、上記本発明のスチールコード・ゴム複合体を用いること以外は、特に限定はなく、公知のタイヤの構成をそのまま採用することができる。
以下に、実施例、比較例を挙げて本発明をさらに詳しく説明するが、本発明は下記の実施例に何ら限定されるものではない。
(実施例1~3、比較例4~6)
黄銅めっき(Cu:63質量%、Zn:37質量%)スチールワイヤを撚り合わせて、1×5構造のスチールコードを作製し、次いで、このスチールコードを10g/L酢酸コバルト水溶液(pH 6.0)で30秒間洗浄し、50℃で1分間乾燥させた。該スチールコードを平行に並べ、上下両方向から表1に示す配合の各ゴム組成物でコーティングし、表1記載の条件で加硫してサンプルを作製した。
黄銅めっき(Cu:63質量%、Zn:37質量%)スチールワイヤを撚り合わせて、1×5構造のスチールコードを作製し、次いで、このスチールコードを10g/L酢酸コバルト水溶液(pH 6.0)で30秒間洗浄し、50℃で1分間乾燥させた。該スチールコードを平行に並べ、上下両方向から表1に示す配合の各ゴム組成物でコーティングし、表1記載の条件で加硫してサンプルを作製した。
(比較例1~3)
黄銅めっき(Cu:63質量%、Zn:37質量%)スチールワイヤを撚り合わせて、1×5構造のスチールコードを作製し、該コードを平行に並べ、上下両方向から表1に示す配合のゴム組成物を用いてコーティングし、表1記載の条件で加硫してサンプルを作製した。
黄銅めっき(Cu:63質量%、Zn:37質量%)スチールワイヤを撚り合わせて、1×5構造のスチールコードを作製し、該コードを平行に並べ、上下両方向から表1に示す配合のゴム組成物を用いてコーティングし、表1記載の条件で加硫してサンプルを作製した。
<評価>
実施例1~3及び比較例1~5で得られた各サンプルについて、以下の項目の評価を行った。

(加硫速度)
各サンプルにかかる未加硫ゴム組成物について、東洋精機社製キュラストメーターを用いて、145℃の条件でキュラスト試験を行った。T0.9は加硫反応によるトルクの上昇が全体の90%に達した時間(分)を表し、T0.9(分)が小さいほど、加硫速度が早いことを示す。
各サンプルにかかる未加硫ゴム組成物について、東洋精機社製キュラストメーターを用いて、145℃の条件でキュラスト試験を行った。T0.9は加硫反応によるトルクの上昇が全体の90%に達した時間(分)を表し、T0.9(分)が小さいほど、加硫速度が早いことを示す。
(引張応力)
各サンプルにかかる未加硫ゴム組成物について、物性の代表的指標として300%伸長時の引張応力を測定した。具体的には、JIS 3号ダンベル型試験片を用い、JIS K 6251-2004に従って、300%伸長時の引張応力を測定し、比較例1の引張応力を100としたときの指数で表示した。なお、各サンプルの指数値については、数値が大きいほど300%伸長時の引張応力が大きく、良好である。
各サンプルにかかる未加硫ゴム組成物について、物性の代表的指標として300%伸長時の引張応力を測定した。具体的には、JIS 3号ダンベル型試験片を用い、JIS K 6251-2004に従って、300%伸長時の引張応力を測定し、比較例1の引張応力を100としたときの指数で表示した。なお、各サンプルの指数値については、数値が大きいほど300%伸長時の引張応力が大きく、良好である。
(接着性)
初期接着性について、各サンプルを145℃で30分加硫した後に、ASTM-D-2229に準拠して、各サンプルからスチールコードを引き抜き、ゴムの被覆状態を目視で観察し、各接着性の指標として0~100%で表示することで評価を行った。
耐熱接着性は、各サンプルを145℃で30分過熱した後、100℃で2日間劣化させた。これらの各サンプルのゴムの被覆状態を目視で観察し、0~100%で表示することで評価を行った。
また、湿熱接着性については、各サンプルを145℃で30分加硫した後に、100℃、湿度100%で、4日間(湿熱劣化条件)で劣化させた。これらの各サンプルのゴムの被覆状態を目視により観察し、0~100%で表示することで評価を行った。
(ゴムの劣化後の物性)
ゴム劣化後の物性については、各サンプルを145℃で30分加硫した後に、100℃で2日老化させた後、JIS K6251に準拠して引張試験を行い、Eb(切断時伸び(%))及びTb(引張強さ(MPa))を測定し、TF(タフネス:Eb×Tb)を算出することで評価を行った。なお、各サンプルのTFについては、比較例1のTFを100としたときの指数値で示し、数値が大きいほどTFが大きく良好である。
初期接着性について、各サンプルを145℃で30分加硫した後に、ASTM-D-2229に準拠して、各サンプルからスチールコードを引き抜き、ゴムの被覆状態を目視で観察し、各接着性の指標として0~100%で表示することで評価を行った。
耐熱接着性は、各サンプルを145℃で30分過熱した後、100℃で2日間劣化させた。これらの各サンプルのゴムの被覆状態を目視で観察し、0~100%で表示することで評価を行った。
また、湿熱接着性については、各サンプルを145℃で30分加硫した後に、100℃、湿度100%で、4日間(湿熱劣化条件)で劣化させた。これらの各サンプルのゴムの被覆状態を目視により観察し、0~100%で表示することで評価を行った。
(ゴムの劣化後の物性)
ゴム劣化後の物性については、各サンプルを145℃で30分加硫した後に、100℃で2日老化させた後、JIS K6251に準拠して引張試験を行い、Eb(切断時伸び(%))及びTb(引張強さ(MPa))を測定し、TF(タフネス:Eb×Tb)を算出することで評価を行った。なお、各サンプルのTFについては、比較例1のTFを100としたときの指数値で示し、数値が大きいほどTFが大きく良好である。

表1の結果からわかるように、従来接着プロモーターとして用いられてきたコバルト塩を含まない場合であっても、遊離酸を10質量%以下含有する有機酸金属塩を配合したゴム組成物を用いてスチールコードを被覆した実施例については、ゴム組成物中に有機酸金属塩を配合していない比較例4及び6に比べて、特に接着性について高い効果を示し、さらに、その他の評価項目のいずれにおいても高い効果を示すことがわかる。さらにまた、コバルト塩を配合したゴム組成物を用いた比較例1及び2に比べ、湿熱劣化後の接着特性や、熱劣化後の物性の点で優れた効果を示し、ステアリン酸亜鉛を含有するが遊離酸の含有率が10質量%を超える比較例3及び5に比べて、耐熱接着性の点で著しく向上していることがわかる。
本発明によれば、被覆ゴムを構成するゴム組成物中にコバルト塩を含有しない場合であっても、スチールコードとの接着性に優れ、モジュラスの低下を抑えることができるスチールコード・ゴム複合体を提供することが可能となる。
Claims (10)
- 遊離酸を10質量%以下含有する有機酸金属塩を配合したゴム組成物を、スチールコードに被覆してなることを特徴とするスチールコード・ゴム複合体。
- 前記有機酸金属の金属が亜鉛であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のスチールコード・ゴム複合体。
- 前記有機酸金属の有機酸がステアリン酸であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のスチールコード・ゴム複合体。
- 前記ゴム組成物は、ゴム成分100質量部に対して、前記有機酸金属塩を0.5~5質量部配合し、硫黄を1~10質量部配合すること特徴とする請求項1に記載のスチールコード・ゴム複合体。
- 前記ゴム組成物は、加硫促進剤として、N-シクロヘキシル-2-ベンゾチアゾールスルフェンアミドをさらに配合すること特徴とする請求項4に記載のスチールコード・ゴム複合体。
- 前記ゴム組成物は、遊離酸の含有量が0.25質量%以下であること特徴とする請求項4に記載のスチールコード・ゴム複合体。
- 前記スチールコードは、Zn及びCuを除く遷移金属の濃度が0.01質量%以上、リン濃度が2.5質量%以下、及び亜鉛濃度が15質量%以下であるブラスめっきを周面に施したスチールワイヤを、複数本撚り合せてなることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のスチールコード・ゴム複合体。
- 前記スチールコードは、前記ブラスめっきを施したスチールワイヤを、伸線加工し、その後、遷移金属の塩を含む水溶液を用いて洗浄を施したものであることを特徴とする請求項7に記載のスチールコード・ゴム複合体。
- 前記遷移金属がコバルトであることを特徴とする請求項8に記載のスチールコード・ゴム複合体。
- 前記遷移金属塩が、塩化コバルト、硝酸コバルト、硫酸コバルト、酢酸コバルト、クエン酸コバルト、グルコン酸コバルト又はアセチルアセトナトコバルトであることを特徴とする請求項9に記載のスチールコード・ゴム複合体。
