Definitions
- the present invention relates to a charge / discharge control method and a power supply system for an alkaline storage battery, and more particularly to a technique for suppressing the occurrence of a memory effect.
- Alkaline storage batteries such as nickel metal hydride storage batteries are used in a wide range of fields such as hybrid vehicles (hereinafter referred to as HEV) and industrial applications (emergency power supplies, etc.).
- HEV hybrid vehicles
- industrial applications electronic power supplies, etc.
- the alkaline storage battery as the main power source performs both motor driving (discharging) and storage (charging) of regenerative power from the generator, and therefore the state of charge (SOC) is monitored and controlled.
- SOC state of charge
- the state of charge is also referred to as a charging depth, and is quantified by defining 100% when the battery is fully charged and 0% when the battery is fully discharged.
- Alkaline storage batteries using nickel hydroxide as the positive electrode active material when repeated so-called partial charge / discharge cycles in which complete discharge (SOC is almost 0%) or complete charge (SOC is almost 100%) are not performed, A phenomenon (hereinafter referred to as a memory effect) occurs in which the electromotive force value with respect to the capacity decreases and the battery capacity of the alkaline storage battery decreases. In order to avoid this, it is desirable to perform charge / discharge in a wide SOC region in an alkaline storage battery.
- a plurality of alkaline storage batteries are used in a power supply system that constantly charges and discharges with a large current instantaneously, such as in HEV applications.
- the plurality of alkaline storage batteries have capacity differences individually. Therefore, in order to avoid the overcharge or overdischarge of the alkaline storage battery with the smallest capacity, the upper limit charge depth (SOCt) prohibiting the charge reaching the SOC more than this, and the discharge reaching the SOC less than this are set.
- SOCt lower limit charging depth
- SOCb lower limit charging depth
- SOCt is generally set to SOC 70 to 90%
- SOCb is set to SOC 10 to 30%.
- the alkaline storage battery used for HEV applications is mainly used in the intermediate SOC region, and is repeatedly charged and discharged under the condition that full charge and complete discharge are not performed. Therefore, the memory effect is likely to occur, and various proposals have been made to eliminate this.
- Patent Document 1 proposes a technique for eliminating the memory effect that is generated by bringing the upper limit value or lower limit value of the SOC control width close to full charge or complete discharge when the occurrence of the memory effect is detected.
- Patent Documents 2 and 3 propose battery control devices that can control the upper and lower limits of the charge / discharge SOC of the secondary battery to prevent the memory effect and the like.
- the battery control device described in the above-mentioned Patent Document 1 detects the memory effect, and then brings the upper limit value or lower limit value of the predetermined SOC control width close to full charge or complete discharge, thereby reducing the generated memory effect. Eliminate. For this reason, it takes a long time to eliminate the memory effect. In addition, when the generated memory effect is large, the memory effect may not be sufficiently solved by the above processing.
- the present invention has been made in view of the above problems, and an object thereof is to provide a charge / discharge control method and a power supply system for an alkaline storage battery that can suppress the occurrence of the memory effect.

- the charge / discharge time when the alkaline storage battery performs the charge / discharge is timed, and every time the measured charge / discharge time reaches the reference time, the additional charge electricity calculated to the upper limit charge depth is calculated. Add the amount to charge the alkaline storage battery.

- the additional charge electricity amount C is a percentage with respect to the initial full charge capacity of the alkaline storage battery 11 and represents the additional charge electricity amount.
- (S ⁇ KT) corresponds to the charging depth SOC on the charging side (upper limit side in FIG. 2) when the reference time T has elapsed.
- This (S-KT) is 60 ⁇ (S-KT) ⁇ 90 (2) It is set to become. That is, as described above, the coefficient K is determined in advance according to the characteristics of the alkaline storage battery 11. Therefore, the upper limit charging depth S and the reference time T are determined so as to satisfy the above equation (2) in consideration of a predetermined coefficient K.
- the timer 44 measures the charge / discharge time during which the power supply unit 1 performs charge / discharge under the control of the charge / discharge controller 41.
- the timing unit 44 may measure the time when the charge / discharge current value detected by the detection unit 2 is 1 mA or more as the charge / discharge time. That is, when the charging / discharging current value is less than 1 mA, the timing unit 44 may not count the time during the period because charging / discharging is not performed. Then, every time the charging / discharging time counted by the timing unit 44 reaches the reference time T, the charging / discharging control unit 41 adds the additional charging electricity amount C calculated by the calculating unit 43 to the upper limit charging depth SOCt. Then, additional charging of the power supply unit 1 is performed.
- the charging / discharging control unit 41 performs the additional charging with a current value determined in advance according to the characteristics of the alkaline storage battery 11 within a range of 3 to 15 It.

- the second calculation unit calculates the additional charge electricity amount based on the coefficient stored in the storage unit, the predetermined upper limit charging depth, and the reference time stored in the storage unit.
- the charge / discharge control unit performs charging of the power supply unit by adding the additional charge electricity amount calculated by the second calculation unit to the upper limit charge depth every time the charge / discharge time measured by the time measurement unit reaches the reference time. . Therefore, the alkaline storage battery can be brought into a fully charged state without overcharging before the influence of the memory effect becomes significant, so that the memory effect can be efficiently eliminated.
- the second calculation unit sets the coefficient as K, sets the upper limit charging depth as S, sets the reference time as T, and sets the additional charge electricity amount as C
- the upper limit charging depth S and the reference time T are determined so as to satisfy 60 ⁇ (S ⁇ KT) ⁇ 90.
- the upper limit charging depth S and the reference time T are determined so as to satisfy 60 ⁇ (S ⁇ KT) ⁇ 90.
- (S-KT) corresponds to the charging depth when performing additional charging. Therefore, it is possible to prevent the charging depth when the additional charging is performed from being 90% or more or 60% or less, and perform additional charging at a suitable charging depth.
- the second calculation unit sets the upper limit of the additional charge electricity amount to 20% of the battery capacity of the alkaline storage battery. According to this configuration, the second calculation unit sets the upper limit of the additional charge electricity amount to 20% of the battery capacity of the alkaline storage battery. Therefore, it is possible to prevent the alkaline storage battery from being overcharged by the additional charge amount.
- the storage unit stores a time set according to the memory effect characteristic of the alkaline storage battery within the range of 70 to 200 hours as the reference time.
- the storage unit stores the time set according to the characteristics of the memory effect of the alkaline storage battery within the range of 70 to 200 hours as the reference time. If the interval for performing additional charging is less than 70 hours, charging becomes excessive, which accelerates the deterioration of the alkaline storage battery and leads to a decrease in the life. Further, if the interval for performing additional charging exceeds 200 hours, the additional charging becomes insufficient, and the effect of eliminating the memory effect cannot be sufficiently exhibited. Therefore, according to the said structure, additional charge can be performed at a suitable space
- the charge / discharge control unit performs the additional charging at a current value set within a range of 3 to 15 It.
- the charge / discharge control unit performs additional charging at a current value set within a range of 3 to 15 It.
- a current value set within a range of 3 to 15 It.
- the change in battery voltage during charging is small, and the effect of eliminating the memory effect is small.
- charging with a large current exceeding 15 It may cause an increase in the internal pressure of the alkaline storage battery and may cause leakage. Therefore, according to the said structure, additional charge can be performed suitably.
- an effective charge / discharge control method and power supply system for a power supply system that is provided with an alkaline storage battery as a power supply unit and that should avoid memory overcharge and overdischarge for HEV applications and the like, and that also considers the memory effect. Can be provided.
- Example 1 A long positive electrode using nickel hydroxide as an active material and a long negative electrode using a hydrogen storage alloy as an active material are wound through a separator made of sulfonated polypropylene nonwoven fabric to form an electrode group did.
- This electrode group was inserted into a cylindrical battery case having an inner diameter of 30 mm and a length of 60 mm, and an electrolyte mainly composed of potassium hydroxide was injected and sealed to obtain a nickel hydride storage battery having a nominal capacity of 6 Ah.
- This nickel metal hydride storage battery was connected in series in 12 cells to form a power supply unit.
- the power supply unit includes a detector 2, an arithmetic unit 3, and a controller 4, and the upper limit charge depth SOCt is set to SOC 80% and the lower limit charge depth in the pattern shown in FIG.
- the SOCb was set to 20% SOC, and additional charge of 1 Ah was performed at a current value of 30 A from the upper limit charge depth every time the charge / discharge time of repeated charge and discharge at a current value of 12 A reached a total of 100 hours. Charging / discharging was repeated under the above conditions until a total of 1500 hours was reached.
- Examples 2 to 8 The battery was repeatedly charged and discharged in the same manner as in Example 1 except that the current value for additional charging was changed to 6, 15, 18, 60, 90, 100, and 120A. These are referred to as Examples 2 to 8.
- Example 9 to 15 The battery was repeatedly charged and discharged in the same manner as in Example 1 except that the cumulative charge / discharge time in the intermediate SOC region until additional charge was changed to 30, 50, 70, 150, 200, 220, 300 hours. Carried out. These are referred to as Examples 9 to 15.
- Comparative Example 1 With the same configuration as in the first embodiment, additional charging is not performed every fixed time, the upper limit charging depth SOCt is SOC 80%, the lower limit charging depth SOCb is SOC 20%, and charging / discharging is performed at a current value of 12 A for a total of 1500. Repeated for hours. This is referred to as Comparative Example 1.
- Comparative Example 2 The battery was charged and discharged in the same manner as in Example 1 except that the amount of electricity for additional charging was 0.5 Ah. This was designated as Comparative Example 2.
- Comparative Example 3 The battery was charged and discharged in the same manner as in Example 1 except that the amount of electricity for additional charging was 1.5 Ah. This was designated as Comparative Example 3.
- the charging end voltage (B1) when charging at a constant current up to, for example, SOC 80% set to the upper limit charging depth and the initial upper limit charging depth For example, when the difference (A1 ⁇ B1) between the SOC 80% and the voltage (A1) to be determined is lower than 450 mV, the memory effect is “significant”, and when the difference is 50 to 450 mV, the memory effect is “ “Yes”, and less than 50 mV were “None”.
- the difference (A1 ⁇ B1) between the SOC 80% and the voltage (A1) to be determined is lower than 450 mV
- the memory effect is “significant”
- the difference is 50 to 450 mV
- the memory effect is “Yes”, and less than 50 mV were “None”.
- Comparative Example 1 where no additional charging was performed, a remarkable memory effect occurred, whereas in each Example of the present invention, the memory effect was suppressed. Further, in Comparative Example 2 in which the amount of charged electricity for additional charging is less than 10% of the battery capacity, a remarkable memory effect is seen, and in Comparative Example 3 in which the amount of charged electricity for additional charging exceeds 20% of the battery capacity. As a result, leakage of the electrolyte due to the increase in the battery internal pressure was confirmed.
- Examples 9 and 10 in which the cumulative charge / discharge time in the intermediate SOC region until additional charge / discharge is less than 70 hours, the memory effect is eliminated, but a drop in battery voltage due to the standing test was confirmed. It is considered that battery deterioration has progressed because the frequency of additional charging is excessive.
- Examples 14 and 15 in which the cumulative charge / discharge time in the intermediate SOC region before additional charge / discharge exceeds 200 hours, the frequency of additional charge is insufficient, and the effect of eliminating the memory effect is small. Therefore, it can be seen that the total charge / discharge time in the intermediate SOC region until additional charging is performed is preferably 70 to 200 hours.
- a power supply system that does not have a memory effect and can avoid overcharging and overdischarging can be realized, so that it can be used for tough use (HEV, home cogeneration, industrial use, etc.) that is an advantage of alkaline storage batteries.
- the applicability is high and the effect is considered high.

Abstract
Description
C=100-(S-KT) ・・・(1)
