Definitions
- the present invention relates to a compound of general formula I.
- M represents a transition metal atom from group 3 to 12 of the Periodic Table, a lanthanide atom or a metal atom from group 1, 2 or 13 of the Periodic Table,
- variables R 1 independently of one another (i) represent C 7 - to C 1-8 -arylalkyl radicals each having 1 to 9 fluorine atoms, these fluorine atoms not appearing as substituents on the aromatic ring systems, or (ii) aliphatic, heterocyclic or radicals (i) various hydrocarbon radicals having aromatic structural elements each having 1 to 18 carbon atoms, which may contain fluorine atoms, where at least one variable R 1 is a radical (i),
- Z represents an uncharged or singly or multiply charged ligand
- a is an integer greater than or equal to 1
- b is 0 or an integer greater than or equal to 1,
- n denotes a number from 1 to 6, in particular 1 to 3,
- the present invention relates to a process for the preparation of highly reactive Isobutenhomo- or copolymers having a number average molecular weight M n of 500 to 1,000,000 by polymerization of isobutene or an isobutene-containing monomer mixture in the liquid phase in the presence of a dissolved, dispersed or supported metal-containing A catalyst complex which is a compound of the above general formula I.
- highly reactive polyisobutene homopolymers or copolymers are understood as meaning polyisobutenes which contain a high content of terminal ethylenic double bonds.
- highly reactive polyisobutenes are understood as meaning polyisobutenes which have a content of Vinylidene double bonds ( ⁇ -double bonds) of at least 60 mol%, preferably of at least 70 mol% and in particular of at least 80 mol%, based on the polyisobutene macromolecules.
- vinylidene groups are understood to mean those double bonds whose position in the polyisobutene macro-molecule is represented by the general formula
- Such highly reactive polyisobutenes are, for. B. by the process of DE-A 27 02 604 by cationic polymerization of isobutene in the liquid phase in the presence of boron trifluoride as a catalyst.
- the disadvantage here is that the resulting polyisobutenes have a relatively high polydispersity.
- Polyisobutenes having a similarly high proportion of terminal double bonds but having a narrower molecular weight distribution are obtainable, for example, by the process of EP-A 145 235, US Pat. No. 5,408,018 and WO 99/64482, the polymerization being carried out in the presence of a deactivated catalyst, for example a Complex of boron trifluoride, alcohols and / or ethers, takes place.
- a deactivated catalyst for example a Complex of boron trifluoride, alcohols and / or ethers
- EP-A 1 344 785 describes a process for the preparation of highly reactive polyisobutenes using a solvent-stabilized transition metal complex with weakly coordinating anions as the polymerization catalyst.
- Suitable metals are those of the 3rd to 12th group of the periodic table; Manganese complexes are used in the examples.
- WO 2007/020248 discloses metal complexes with weakly coordinating counterions as polymerization catalysts for isobutene or an isobutene-containing monomer mixture which, as weakly coordinating counterions, comprises inter alia tetraarylborates such as tetrakis (pentafluorophenyl) borate or tetrakis [3,5-bis (trifluoromethyl) phenyl] borate, halogeno borates such as BF 4 " or BCI 4 " or halogen aluminates such as AIF 4 " , AICI 4 " , AI 2 F 7 “ or AI 2 CI 7 " exhibit.
- tetraarylborates such as tetrakis (pentafluorophenyl) borate or tetrakis [3,5-bis (trifluoromethyl) phenyl] borate
- halogeno borates such as BF 4 " or BCI 4 " or halogen aluminates such
- WO 2007/057405 describes catalyst complexes for the polymerization of isobutene or isobutene-containing monomer mixtures which are present as proton-acidic compounds or as salts with ammonium cations or mono- to trivalent metal cations.

Eur. J. 1998, 4(9), 1731 ; R. E. LaPoin- te, G. R. Ruff, K. A. Abboud, J. Klosin, New Family of Weakly Coordinating Anions, J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2000, 122(39), 9560; W. E. Buschmann, J. S. Miller, Inorganic Che- mistry 33, 2002, 83; O. Nuyken, F. E. Kühn, Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. Engl. 2003, 42, 1307; O. Nuyken, F. E. Kühn, Chem. Eur.
Chem. 1979, 18, 1149; I. R. Anderson, J. C. Sheldon, Aust. J. Chem. 1965, 18, 271 ; J. V. Brencic, F. A. Cotton, Inorg. Chem.
[M(L)a(Z)b]m+ • [AI(OR1)4]" m (I)

Insbesondere verwendet man Dichlormethan.
