- Fuel injection systems are known from the prior art in which the fuel for the injectors assigned to the individual cylinders is made available centrally from a fuel reservoir -also called “common-rail.” In the case of diesel internal combustion engines, the fuel is supplied by means of a High-pressure pump in common rail compressed up to 1800 bar.
- the high-pressure pumps which are designed, for example, as radial or in-line piston pumps, are subjected to high mechanical loading so that there is the danger that mechanical abrasion will occur, especially in the area of the pistons, which reaches the injection valves via the fuel supply line and the fuel reservoir .
- Modern common rail systems are, on the other hand, due to their very small manufacturing tolerances, e.g. the piston clearance of a common rail high-pressure pump is 2 to 4 ⁇ m, while the guiding clearance of an injector nozzle needle is less than 2 ⁇ m, very sensitive to contamination.
