Abstract

本発明は、広視野角表示を行うとともに、透過率及びコントラスト比の更なる向上を実現する液晶表示装置を提供する。本発明の液晶表示装置は、第一の基板、液晶層及び第二の基板を表示面に向かってこの順に備える液晶表示装置であって、上記第一及び第二の基板は、偏光板及び透明電極を備え、上記第一の基板は、反射板を備え、上記液晶層は、負の誘電率異方性を有する液晶材料で構成され、上記第一及び第二の基板の少なくとも一方は、表示面から見たときに反射板と重なる領域に、誘電体により形成されたλ/4位相差層を備え、上記λ/4位相差層は、透明電極の液晶層側に配置されている液晶表示装置である。
