Abstract
光学式記録媒体の記録層を初期化する本発明の初期化方法では、(i)初期化開始時に、前記記録層を初期化する初期化用光ビームとは異なる焦点位置粗調用光ビームを、前記記録層とは異なる前記光学式記録媒体中の基準面に照射し、前記基準面からの反射光をもとに生成されるフォーカスエラー信号に基づいて前記初期化用光ビームの焦点を前記記録層に概略合わせて、前記記録層を部分的に初期化し、(ii)前記記録層の部分的に初期化された部分からの前記初期化用光ビームの反射光をもとに生成されるフォーカスエラー信号に基づいて、前記初期化用光ビームの焦点を前記記録層に合わせ、(iii)前記初期化用光ビームの前記記録層からの反射光をもとに生成されるフォーカスエラー信号に基づいて、前記初期化用光ビームの焦点位置を制御しながら前記記録層を初期化する。
