Abstract

 耐久性の低下を招くことなしに、小型化、コストダウンおよび浄化能力の向上を図ることができる排気浄化装置を提供する。エンジンEからの排気ガスGを導出する排気通路EPに設けられ、触媒反応によって排気ガスGを浄化するものであって、排気ガスGの流れ方向Xに並んで複数の触媒ユニット42,43が配置され、各触媒ユニット42,43はハニカム構造体に触媒を担持させてなり、複数の触媒ユニットのうち少なくとも二つの触媒ユニット42,43では、下流側の触媒ユニット43の方が上流側の触媒ユニット42よりも、セル密度が高く、ハニカム構造体の容積が小さく、かつ主触媒となる元素の単位容積当たりの担持量が多い。
