Description
図1は本発明の触媒コンバーターが介在する排ガスの排気系統を説明した模式図である。
図2は本発明の触媒コンバーターの実施の形態を説明した模式図である。同図で示す触媒コンバーター10は、中空を有する筒状の管路1と、この管路1内に収容されているタンデム型の基材4とから大略構成されており、タンデム型の基材4は、排ガス流れの上流側に位置する第1の基材2と、下流側に位置する第2の基材3とから構成されている。
本発明者等は、本発明のタンデム型の基材を備えた触媒コンバーターにおいて、上流側の第1の基材の流速分布と浄化性能に関する実験をおこなった。以下、実施例1と比較例1の触媒コンバーターに関し、上流側の基材は双方ともに同じ構成であり、下流側の基材は実施例1と比較例1で相違させた。
押出成形によってコージェライト製のハニカム構造基材を作製した。ハニカム構造体のサイズは排ガスの流れ方向に直交する円形断面の直径がφ103mmで長手方向の長さが105mmであり、セル密度が600cpsi(93個/cm2)であり、セルの格子形状はいずれも六角形である。また、触媒層を構成する担体はAl2O3-CeO2-ZrO2複合酸化物(ACZ材)であり、貴金属触媒としてPdを1.0g/L、Rhを0.2g/L担持させた。
<実施例1>
押出成形によってコージェライト製のハニカム構造基材を作製し、中央領域と周辺領域でセル密度を相違させた。ハニカム構造体のサイズは排ガスの流れ方向に直交する円形断面の直径がφ103mmで長手方向の長さが105mmであり、セル密度が低い周辺領域のセル密度が400cpsi(62個/cm2)であり、セル密度が高い中央領域のセル密度が600cpsi(93個/cm2)であり、中央領域と周辺領域の切替箇所はφ70mmとし、セルの格子形状はいずれも四角形である。また、触媒層を構成する担体はAl2O3-CeO2-ZrO2複合酸化物(ACZ材)であり、貴金属触媒としてPtを0.3g/L、Rhを0.1g/L担持させた。
基材全体のセル密度を均一とし、セル密度を500cpsi(78個/cm2)とした以外は実施例1と同様である。
実機エンジンを使用し、触媒床温950℃で、1分間にフィードバック、フューエルカット、リッチ・リーンを含むサイクルで50時間の耐久試験を実施した流速分布の測定は触媒コンバーターの側面に穴を開け、そこに流速計を差し込んで計測をおこなった。また、浄化性能評価法は、実機エンジンに実施例1、比較例1の各触媒コンバーターを設置してエンジンを駆動させ、NOx排出量を測定した。
実験結果を図4,5に示す。ここで、図4は上流側の第1の基材の断面内における流速分布を検証する実験結果を示した図であり、図5は上流側の第1の基材の触媒のエミッション比に関する実験結果を示した図である。
本発明者等はさらに、下流側の基材の中央領域と周辺領域のセル密度比とエミッション比の相関を特定する実験をおこなった。以下、実施例1、比較例1に加えて、実施例2、3、比較例2の下流側の基材のセル密度を表1に示す。なお、上流側のセル密度はすべての触媒コンバーターともに実施例1、比較例1と同様である。また、触媒平均のセル密度は全て500cpsiとしている。
Claims (2)
- 排ガスが流通する2つのセル構造の基材である、上流側の第1の基材と下流側の第2の基材がタンデム搭載されてなる触媒コンバーターであって、
第1の基材はセル密度が均一であり、
第2の基材は、セル密度が相対的に高い中央領域とセル密度が相対的に低い周辺領域とから構成されている触媒コンバーター。 - 第2の基材において、周辺領域のセル密度に対する中央領域のセル密度が1倍より大きくて2倍以下の範囲である請求項1に記載の触媒コンバーター。
