Definitions
- the present invention relates to a self-luminous element, an illuminating device, and a display device, and more particularly, to a self-luminous type that utilizes light emission by a light-emitting layer disposed between electrode layers.
- the present invention relates to an element, a lighting device using the self-luminous element, and a display device.
- FIG. 9 shows the configuration of an organic light emitting diode (OLED) 100 as such a self-luminous element.
- the organic light emitting diode 100 has a configuration in which an electrode layer 10 3, a light emitting layer 1 0 5, and an electrode layer 1 0 4 are laminated in this order between substrates 1 0 1 and 1 0 2. .
- the light-emitting layer 10 5 includes a hole injection layer 1 0 05 a, a hole transport layer 1 0 5 b, an organic light-emitting layer 1 0 5 c, an electron transport layer 1 0 5 d, and an electron injection layer 1 0 5 e. They are stacked in order.
- the organic light emitting diode 100 when a voltage is applied between the electrode layer 10 3 and the electrode layer 10 4, the light emitting layer 1 0 5 emits light, whereby the substrate 1 0 1 or the substrate 1 0 2 Light is emitted from the side to the outside.
- the organic light emitting diode 100 there is a possibility that the light emitting layer 10 5 itself may generate heat or the element itself may generate heat due to defects due to initial failure, deterioration over time, or reduction in light emission efficiency.
- lighting devices and display devices using organic light emitting diodes 100 were provided with an external protection circuit consisting of PTC thermistor fuses (PTC thermistors).
- PTC thermistor fuses PTC thermistors
- the PTC thermistor 110 has a configuration in which a PTC material 113 is disposed between the electrodes 1111 and 112. When the temperature of the PTC material 113 rises, the electric resistance value increases, and this makes it difficult for current to flow between the electrodes 1 1 1 and 112. Therefore, by applying such a protection circuit including PTC thermistor to self-luminous elements, lighting devices and display devices composed of many self-luminous elements, current flows when the temperature of the element rises. Heat generation can be prevented with difficulty. Disclosure of the invention
- the protective circuit as described above is provided externally, the manufacturing cost increases and the entire apparatus becomes large.
- the average output differs depending on the light emitting region, and there are manufacturing variations among the numerous self-luminous elements.
- the degree of progress of aging deterioration is different for each, and there are areas where heat generation due to reduced luminous efficiency becomes noticeable and areas where this is not the case within the same device.
- heat is generated corresponding to each heat-generating region. Can not be prevented.
- the protection circuit cannot be activated unless the current value or temperature of the entire device exceeds the reference value. Therefore, the lighting device and the display device cannot prevent heat generation in a specific area even if a protection circuit is simply provided.
- a protection circuit is simply provided in the lighting device or display device, when the protection circuit is activated, the operation of all the areas including the individual areas that generate heat is stopped. For this reason, even if it is a case where it is possible to continue the use by ensuring the brightness as a whole only in the region that operates normally, the illumination function of the entire device will be lost.
- the present invention includes a first electrode layer, a second electrode layer, a light emitting layer that is disposed between these electrode layers and emits light by passing a current between these electrode layers,
- a self-luminous element comprising a functional layer that limits the amount of current flowing between the first and second electrode layers based on a temperature rise
- the self-luminous element emits light in the light emitting layer when a current flows between the first electrode layer and the second electrode layer in a normal operation state. It can function as a light emitting element.
- the functional layer in this normal operating state, the functional layer is maintained at a relatively low temperature within the normal set temperature range, so that the conduction state between the first electrode layer and the second electrode layer is maintained well. Is done.
- the functional layer becomes The amount of current between the first electrode layer and the second electrode layer is limited. As a result, an increase in the element temperature can be suppressed, and the element can be prevented from generating heat individually and inexpensively.
- the functional layer since this current limiting function can be realized by the functional layer, it is possible to save the space of the entire light emitting device as compared with the conventional case where an external protection circuit is provided.
- a metal, a conductive metal oxide film, a translucent metal thin film, and a conductive organic compound are provided between the first electrode layer and the second electrode layer.
- a conductive layer made of a material selected from is provided.
- injection of holes or electrons into the adjacent layer can be promoted by the conductive layer.
- the conductive layer is preferably provided between the light-emitting layer and the functional layer, and can promote the injection of holes or electrons into the light-emitting layer and improve the light emission efficiency.
- the second electrode layer is preferably a functional layer. According to the present invention configured as described above, the second electrode layer need not be provided separately, so that the configuration can be simplified.
- a light emitting layer and a functional layer are laminated in this order between the first and second electrode layers.
- a light emitting layer, a conductive layer, and a functional layer are laminated in this order between the first and second electrode layers.
- the first electrode layer, the light emitting layer, the conductive layer, and the second electrode layer that is a functional layer are laminated in this order.
- the first electrode layer, the light emitting layer, and the second electrode layer that is a functional layer are laminated in this order.
- the light emitting layer includes an organic light emitting layer or an inorganic light emitting layer.
- the self-luminous element can be composed of either an organic light emitting layer or an inorganic light emitting layer.
- the illuminating device of this invention is equipped with the said self-light-emitting element.
- the present invention configured as described above similarly to the self-luminous element, it is possible to prevent heat generation of the element individually and at low cost, and to save the space of the entire light emitting device.
- each self-luminous element has an individual current limiting function, so an external protection circuit is provided for each self-luminous element.
- each self-luminous element can be protected from heat generation individually and inexpensively while further saving the space of the apparatus.
- the display device of the present invention includes the array arrangement of the self-luminous elements. Description

Ba、 Ca、 CaF、 L i F、 L i、 NaF等を用いることができる。

R = R0 · e x p { (1/T- 1/T0) }
例えば、 有機 EL素子 l a, l e, 1 i , lm, 1 η, 1 ο, 1 ρが、 それ以外のものに比べて劣化が早い場合、 端 子部 2 a, 2 b間に定電流が流れているため、 劣化が遅い有機 EL素子 1 b, 1 c, I d, 1 f, 1 g, l h, 1 j , 1 k, 1 1に電流が集中する。
