Abstract

 第1の偏光板保護フィルム、偏光子および該偏光子の第1の偏光板保護フィルムと反対側の面に配置され、第2の偏光板保護フィルム上に垂直方向に配向した棒状液晶の配向を固定した層を設けてなる光学補償フィルムを有する偏光板であって、該光学補償フィルムの23°C、55%RHの環境下における波長590nmでの下記式2、3で表されるレターデーションRo、Rtが、Ro:30~130nm、Rt:-100~65nmおよび     |Rt|<|Ro/2|、である偏光板において、該光学補償フィルムの、下記式1で表される波長分散特性D(R40)が2.0~6.5nmであることを特徴とする偏光板。     式1:D(R40)=R40(630)-R40(480) (式中、R40は光学補償フィルムの面内の進相軸を回転軸として40°傾けて測定したレターデーション値を表す。(630)、(480)は各々の測定波長(nm)を表す。)
