Abstract

放電セルで初期化放電を発生させる初期化期間と放電セルで選択的に書込み放電を発生させる書込み期間と放電セルで輝度重みに応じた回数の維持放電を発生させる維持期間とを有する複数のサブフィールドを配置して1フィールド期間を構成したパネルの駆動方法であって、1フィールド期間を、輝度重みが単調増加する複数のサブフィールドからなるサブフィールド群を複数配置して構成し、複数のサブフィールド群のうち、少なくとも1つのサブフィールド群に属する先頭のサブフィールドの前に放電を発生させない保持期間を設けるとともに、少なくとも1つのサブフィールド群に属する先頭のサブフィールドの初期化期間には、直前のサブフィールドの維持期間において維持放電を行った放電セルで初期化放電を発生させる初期化動作を行うことを特徴とする。
