Abstract

 液晶表示パネルの各画素が2つのサブ画素に分割された場合に、回路規模の増大を抑えつつ、入力映像信号の階調に対するサブ画素の駆動レベルを複数通りの中から選択可能にする。  このため本発明においては、入力映像信号の各画素の階調値に基づいて、第1のサブ画素を駆動するための第1の階調値を得る第1サブ画素駆動レベル変換部を備え、その第1の階調値で第1のサブ画素を駆動制御する。そして、第1サブ画素駆動レベル変換部で得られた第1の階調値を、輝度値に変換し、画素全体の階調値を変換した輝度値との差分を求める。その求まった差分を、階調値に変換して、第2のサブ画素を駆動するための第2の階調値を得る。その第2の階調値で第2のサブ画素を駆動制御する。
