Abstract

　エリアアクティブ駆動処理部（１５）は、入力画像（３１）に基づき、液晶パネル（１１）の駆動に用いる液晶データ（３２）と、バックライト（１３）の駆動に用いるＬＥＤデータ（３３）を求める。ＬＥＤデータ（３３）を求めるときには、入力画像（３１）を複数のエリアに分割し、各エリア内の画素の輝度の最大値Ｍａと平均値Ｍｅを求め、最大値Ｍａと平均値Ｍｅを加重平均することにより、各エリアに対応したＬＥＤ（２３）～（２５）の輝度を求める。加重平均に用いる係数αは、平均値Ｍｅに応じて変化する。ＬＥＤ輝度は、平均値Ｍｅが大きくなるに伴い、平均値Ｍｅから加速度的に上昇して最大値Ｍａに近づく。これにより、バックライト調光を行う画像表示装置におけるフリッカと輝度低下を防止する。
