  • Unit 5 comprises two rotors 8, which are located on opposite sides of feed path P, rotate in opposite directions about respective parallel axes 9 defining a plane perpendicular to feed path P at sealing station 4, and have respective cylindrical pitch surfaces 10 substantially tangent to each other and to feed path P at sealing station 4.
  • Rotors 8 are substantially identical, and each comprise a drive shaft 11 coaxial with relative axis 9 and fitted on its free end with a sleeve 12, from a lateral surface 13 of which a sonotrode 14 of a sealing device 15 and an anvil 16 project radially outwards in diametrically opposite positions.
  • Each sonotrode 14 is normally made of aluminium, titanium or steel, and has, at its free end, an active sealing surface 17, which extends along relative pitch surface 10, is a cylindrical surface, and in plan view is substantially rectangular and substantially the same size as a sealing area 6.
  • Each anvil 16 is bounded at its free end by a contrast surface 18, which is substantially the same size as a sealing area 6 and has ribs 19 parallel to axes 9 and tangent to relative pitch surface 10.

  • Each sonotrode 14 also comprises a reinforcing member 25, which is coaxial with relative cavity 23, is fitted inside cavity 23 to close relative slit 24, and is of a surface hardness greater than that of relative sonotrode 14 at relative active sealing surface 17, and substantially equal to that of cutting edge 22 of relative blade 21.
