Abstract

L'invention concerne un dispositif d'affichage à cristaux liquides (LCD) pouvant être commuté entre un mode transmissif et un mode réfléchissant. Le dispositif LCD comprend un rétro-éclairage; un polariseur réfléchissant actif qui fonctionne comme réflecteur qui réfléchit une lumière incidente ou comme un polariseur réfléchissant qui réfléchit la lumière d'une première polarisation et transmet la lumière d'une seconde polarisation perpendiculaire à la première en fonction de l'application d'un champ magnétique; et un panneau à cristaux liquides qui module la lumière incidente pour former des images. Le panneau à cristaux liquides comprend une couche de cristaux liquides, un premier polariseur disposé sur une surface arrière de la couche de cristaux liquides et opposé au polariseur réfléchissant actif, et un second polariseur disposé sur une surface avant de la couche de cristaux liquides.
