Abstract

 記録領域に磁性層を規則的に形成することが可能な磁気記録媒体用基板、磁気記録媒体、及び磁気記録媒体用基板の製造方法を提供する。このため、磁性層が形成される複数の記録領域が表面に形成された円板状の磁気記録媒体用基板であって、記録領域の大きさは、磁性層を構成する単結晶構造の単位格子の格子定数の整数倍の大きさである。例えば、記録領域として用いられる凸部3の幅は、磁性層を構成する単結晶構造の単位格子の格子定数の整数倍の大きさとなっている。つまり、凸部3の幅を幅d1とし、磁性層を構成する単結晶構造の単位格子の格子定数(幅d2)とすると、幅d1=幅d2×n(n:正の整数)の関係が成立している。
