Abstract

 高輝度化されたパネルであっても、パネルへの通電累積時間が増大したときに、書込み放電を発生させるために必要な電圧を高くすることなく、安定した書込み放電を発生させるプラズマディスプレイ装置およびプラズマディスプレイパネルの駆動方法を提供する。そのために、パネルに通電した時間の累積時間を計測する累積時間計測回路と、パネルを駆動する駆動回路とを備え、駆動回路は、表示電極対の電極間容量に蓄積された電力を回収しその回収した電力を表示電極対に供給する電力回収回路と表示電極対のそれぞれを電源電圧およびベース電位にクランプするクランプ回路とを有する維持パルス発生回路を有し、維持期間における最後の維持放電を発生させるための維持パルスとその直前の維持パルスとの間に、表示電極対をともにベース電位とする期間を設け、かつその期間の長さを累積時間計測回路が計測した累積時間に応じて変更する。
