[0002] 従来、デジタルデータ (情報)を記録するための情報記録媒体として、赤色半導体 レーザなどを光源として用いる、 CDや DVDに代表される光ディスクが広く利用され ている。この光ディスクには、データの追記や書き換えができないタイプ (ROM型光 ディスク)と、データの記録はできるが書き換えができないタイプ (追記型光ディスク)と 、データの書き換えが可能であるタイプ (書き換え型光ディスク)とが存在する。
[0003] これらの光ディスクへの情報の記録は、光ディスクに設けられている記録面上にレ 一ザ光を照射して行われる。光ディスクの記録面上におけるレーザ光が照射される 部分は、温度が上昇するために、光ディスクを構成する光記録媒体に変化が生じる。 この光記録媒体の変化によって記録マークが光ディスクの記録面上に形成される。 そして、この記録マークが形成される期間(マーク期間)と記録マークが形成されない 期間 (スペース期間)とにより、光ディスクに 2値のデジタルデータが記録される。
[0004] このように記録マークを光ディスクに形成する方法として、記録マーク長の変調規則 に基づ!/、た記録マーク長 nTの記録マークに対して、記録パルス数が(η— 1)や (η— 2)の記録パルスを用いて記録マークを形成する記録方法が知られて 、る。しかしな がら、この記録方法では、記録速度を向上させた場合 (高速記録の場合)に、記録レ 一ザパワー(記録パワー)が増大するとともに、記録パルスのパルス幅を十分に確保 できない。このため、この記録方法は、高速記録には適さない、という問題がある。
[0005] これに対して、高速記録に適した記録方法として、図 15に示すような、記録マーク 長が 2Τ〜8Τ(Τ;チャネルクロックの周期)の記録マークについて、それぞれの記録 マークを 1つの記録パルスを用いて形成する、レーザパルスの制御記録方法が知ら れている。この制御記録方法は、記録レーザパルスのパルス幅の確保が容易であり、 上記の(n— 1)や (n— 2)のパルス数を用いる記録方法に比べて、記録パワーを比較 的低く設定できる。
[0006] さらに、特許文献 1 (特開 2004— 355809号公報 (公開日: 2004年 12月 16日)) には、記録マークの形状を制御する記録方法として、記録マークのマーク長により記 録パルス数と休止期間とを変化させる記録方法が開示されている。ここでは、 5T以 下の記録マークを 1つの記録パルスを用いて記録する(記録マークを形成する)一方 、それ以外の記録マーク(6T以上の記録マーク)をそのマーク長によって休止期間を 変えつつ、 2つ以上の記録パルスを用いて記録する方法が示されて 、る。
発明の開示
[0007] しかしながら、上記の記録方法では、次のような問題があった。
[0008] 図 15に示す制御記録方法では、高速記録における、長記録マーク形成時に、光 ディスクの記録面上に熱蓄積が起こり、記録マークにおける後端ほど情報記録媒体( 媒体)の温度の上昇が大きくなる。そのため、均一な幅(トラック方向と垂直な方向の 幅)の記録マークを形成することが困難であった。
[0009] また、この制御記録方法を特許文献 1の記録波形に用いた記録方法では、記録パ ヮーを低く設定するため、記録速度の向上に伴って、単位時間当たりの媒体に注入 されるエネルギー密度が低下する。そして、記録マークのマーク長が長くなればなる ほど、中間パワー (記録パワーよりも低い記録パワー)の照射期間 (休止期間)が長く なり、媒体に注入されるエネルギーが不足する。それゆえ、休止期間における記録マ ーク幅が狭くなる。従って、全体として幅の均一な記録マークの形成が難しくなる、と いう問題が生じる。すなわち、長マークになるほど休止期間が長くなり、媒体温度の 上昇が不足する。

[0011] 図 16における RF信号 (再生信号)における、実線は従来の再生波形 (休止期間を 2T)を示しており、点線は理想的な記録波形 (休止期間を 1T)を示している。この再 生波形の比較により、従来の記録波形では、記録マーク開始時より、再生信号レべ ルが不足しており、記録マークの形状が安定していない (記録マークの幅が均一でな い)ことが分かる。
[0012] これを防止するためには、記録マークの始端部と後端部を形成するに十分な媒体 温度上昇を補償する必要があり、先端と後端にある記録パルスのレーザパワーを増 大させることになる。更に、休止期間の記録パワーにおいても、媒体温度の低下を防 止することが必要となり、休止期間の記録パワーも増大させる必要がある。すなわち、 記録パワーレベル全体を大きくする必要がある。
[0013] また、休止期間を記録マークのマーク長に応じて最適に設定する必要があるため、 記録波形を決定するためのパラメータが増大する、という問題も生じる。

[0017] また、本発明の情報記録装置は、情報記録媒体に対して、レーザ光を照射して記 録マークを形成する記録マーク形成手段であって、マーク長が所定の長さ未満の記 録マークについては、第 1の記録パワーを有する 1つの記録パルスで形成し、マーク 長が所定の長さ以上の記録マークについては、第 1の記録パワーよりも低い第 2の記 録パワーを有する休止期間にて第 1の記録パワーを有する記録パルスを分割する記 録マーク形成手段を備えた情報記録装置にお!、て、上記記録マーク形成手段は、 前記休止期間を、記録マークのマーク長によらず一定になり、かつ、記録パルスの分 割数によらず一定になるように設定することを特徴として 、る。
[0018] 上記構成によれば、マーク長が所定の長さ未満の記録マークは記録パワーを有す る 1つの記録パルスによって形成している一方、マーク長が所定の長さ以上の記録マ ークは前記第 1の記録パワーよりもパワーが低い第 2のパワーを有する休止期間と該 休止期間にて分割された前記第 1の記録パワーを有する複数の記録パルスとによつ て形成している。それゆえ、情報記録媒体の記録面上に熱蓄積が起こることを防止 することができる。
[0019] 上記したように、従来の情報記録装置では、複数の記録パルスを用いて記録マー クを形成する場合、記録マークが長くなるほど、休止期間が長くなつている。このため 媒体の温度上昇が不足していた。従って、休止期間における記録マークの幅が狭く なり、均一な記録マークを形成することが困難であった。
[0020] これに対して、上記構成によれば、記録マークのマーク長によらず、かつ記録パル スの分割数によらず休止期間を一定にしている。このため、休止期間においても十分 に媒体温度の上昇を図ることができ、休止期間における記録マークの幅を均一にす ることができる。それゆえ、記録マークの幅を均一にすることができる。

[0090] また、 2つ以上の記録パルスの間にある、記録パルスのレーザパワー(記録パワー P w)よりも小さいレーザパワーである中間パワー Pmを有する休止期間 tmを、レーザ光 の立下り時間 tdよりも大きくすることが好ましい。一般に、レーザパワーの大きさを切り 替えるときには、図 13 (a)に実線で示すように、レーザパルスの形状が矩形状 (矩形 波)となることが理想的である。ところが、実際のレーザノ ルスには、同図に破線で示 すように、立上り時間 tuおよび立下り時間 tdが生じる。
[0091] 図 1における 2つの記録パルスを用いる場合 (波形 (f) (g) )について説明する。休 止期間 tmは、図 13 (a)に示すように、レーザ光の立下り時間 tdよりも大きくなつてい る。休止期間 tmがレーザ光の立下り時間 tdよりも大きい場合、レーザパワーは、記録 パワー Pwから中間パワー Pmまで下がった後、再び記録パワー Pwに戻り、光デイス ク 8 (図 2)に与える熱量を制御することができる。従って、所望のレーザパワーのレー ザパルスが得られ、光ディスク 8に与える熱量を制御することができる、という効果を奏 する。
[0092] これに対して、本実施の形態の参考例である図 13 (b)に示すように、休止期間 tm がレーザ光の立下り時間 tdより小さい場合、記録パワー Pwから中間パワー Pmまで 下がりきらずに、再び記録パワー Pwに戻ってしまう。このため、所望の中間パワー P mまで下がって!/、な!/、レーザパルスが得られてしま!/、、光ディスク 8に与える熱量を制 御できない。
[0093] また、 tm= ITにすることが好ましい。つまり、休止期間 tmとチャネルクロック T(1T) とを等しくすることが好ましい。例えば、チャネルクロックの周波数が 264MHzの場合 、 1Tは約 3. 8nsである。また、所定のレーザパワーに安定するまでのレーザ光の立 下り時間 tdは、約 2nsである。よって、休止期間 tmを、 1Tにすることで、レーザ光の 立下り時間 tdより大きくすることができる。従って、休止期間 tmが立下り時間 tdよりも 大きくなるため、上記と同様の理由により、所望のレーザパワーのレーザパルスが得 られ、光ディスク 8に与える熱量を制御することができる。
[0094] また、 2つ以上の記録パルスの間において、 Pm=Psとすることが好ましい。すなわ ち、中間パワー Pmとスペースパワー Psを等しくすることが好ましい。 Pm=Psとするこ とによって、使用するレーザパワーの種類を減らすことができる。つまり、情報記録装 置に用いる回路の構成を簡略ィ匕することができる。
[0095] また、上記では、(1、 7) RLL変調された記録データ列に基づいている力 その他 の変調した記録データ列への拡張は容易に可能である。図 14は、 8/16変調に用い られる場合の記録データ列での記録波形を示している。同図に示すように、最長記 録マークの増大に伴い、記録パルス数は、記録マーク Mのマーク長によらず休止期 間 tmを一定して、この休止期間 tmによって 2または 3つに分割した記録パルスを用 いることがでさる。

、る(波形 (ο)〜波形 (s)参照)。 3つの記録パルスにて休止期間を 分割した場合には、同一の記録マーク Μを形成するために、複数の休止期間 tmが 形成されるが、この場合、これらの休止期間は一定となる。
[0097] なお、上記では、 tm= 1T、 Pm=Psとした力 これら 2つの条件は、必ずしも満たす 必要はなぐいずれか一方のみ満たす場合でも、共に満たさない場合も十分なレー ザパルスの設定マージンが得られる。これは、記録媒体の温度上昇に関して、休止 期間 tmと記録パワー Pwとの関係により媒体の温度上昇を制御できるからである。
[0098] このような制御により、長い記録マーク Mを比較的低いレーザパワーを用いて幅が 均一で、十分なレーザパルスの設定マージンを有する記録マーク Mを形成できる。 例えば、本光ディスク 101における温度上昇は、 tmと(Pw— Pm)との積(面積)によ り制御することができる。
[0099] なお、本願発明は、上記記載の各実施の形態において、追記型光ディスクによる 実験を対象として説明を行ったが、相変化媒体や、その他熱エネルギーによって情 報を記録することが可能な光ディスクであれば適応することは十分可能である。
[0100] また、光記録媒体に記録する際に、チャネルクロックの周波数が高い場合において 、十分なレーザパルスの設定マージンを有し、かつ幅の均一な記録マーク Mの形成 が可能な情報記録装置及び方法を提供する。さらに、光記録媒体にレーザ光を照射 して、記録データ列に応じた記録マーク Mを形成する情報記録装置において、 6T( Τはチャネルクロック周期)以下の長さの記録マーク Μを形成するために、 1つの記録 パルスを生成し、それ以外の長さの記録マーク Μを形成するために、 2つ以上の記 録パルスを生成する。
[0101] 情報処理装置は、情報記録媒体にレーザ光を照射して、記録データ列に応じた記 録マークを形成する情報記録装置において、前記レーザ光を出射する光源と、前記 記録データ列に基づいて駆動信号を生成する信号生成手段と、前記駆動信号に基 づいて前記光源を駆動することにより、前記情報記録媒体上にレーザパルスを照射 する記録手段とを備え、前記駆動信号は、前記記録マークを形成するための記録パ ヮーを有した記録パルスを含むマーク期間と前記記録マークを形成しないスペース 期間とを含み、前記信号生成手段は、所定の長さ未満の記録マークを形成するため に 1つの前記記録パルスを生成し、所定の長さ以上の記録マークを形成するために 複数の前記記録パルスを生成し、前記所定の長さ以上の記録マークを形成する場 合、前記信号生成手段は、前記記録パワーより低い第 2の記録パワーを有した休止 期間を前記記録パルス間に生成し、前記休止期間は一定であってもよ ヽ。
[0102] また、前記休止期間は少なくとも 1つ設けられており、記録マークの長さによらず一 定であってもよい。
[0103] 情報処理方法は、情報記録媒体にレーザ光を照射して、記録データ列に応じた記 録マークを形成する情報記録方法にお!、て、前記記録データ列に基づ!、て駆動信 号を生成する第 1ステップと、前記駆動信号に基づいてレーザ光を出射する光源を 駆動することにより、前記情報記録媒体上にレーザパルスを照射して記録する第 2ス テツプとを備え、前記駆動信号は、前記記録マークを形成するための記録パワーを 有した記録パルスを含むマークを形成するマーク期間と前記記録マークを形成しな いスペース期間とを含み、前記第 1ステップは、所定の長さ未満の記録マークを形成 するために 1つの前記記録パルスを生成し、所定の長さ以上の記録マークを形成す るために複数の前記記録パルスを生成し、前記所定の長さ以上のマークを形成する 場合、前記第 1ステップは、前記記録パワーより低い第 2の記録パワーを有した休止 期間を前記記録パルス間に生成し、前記休止期間は一定であってもよ ヽ。
[0104] また、前記休止期間は少なくとも 1つ設けられており、記録マークの長さによらず一 定であってもよい。

[0106] 記録マークが均一な幅になっている力否かは、記録マークの先端部および後端部 におけるマークの幅を検出することによって調べることができる。そして、上記構成の ように、前記所定の長さ未満の記録マークのマーク長を、最短マーク長以上 5T以下 にする一方、前記所定の長さ以上の記録マークのマーク長を、 6T以上最長マーク長 以下にすることによって、先端部と後端部とのマーク幅をほぼ等しくすることができる ことが本発明者らの鋭意検討の結果分力つた。
[0107] また、本発明の情報記録装置では、前記所定の長さ未満の記録マークのマーク長 は、最短マーク長以上 6T以下である一方、前記所定の長さ以上の記録マークのマ ーク長は、 7T以上最長マーク長以下であることが好ま U、。
[0108] 従来、高速記録においては、ドライブごとに発生するレーザパルスの設定ずれ (実 際の発光波形のずれ)による影響は無視できず、この影響により、実使用レベルの記 録マークの形成が難しくなり、十分なレーザパルスの設定マージンが得られない、と いう問題が生じていた。
[0109] これに対して、本発明者らが鋭意検討を重ねた結果、上記構成によれば、最終の 記録パルスの終端位置を動力ゝしても記録マーク終端のジッタの上昇が比較的小さく なることが分力つた。従って、チャネルクロック周波数が高い場合でも、十分なレーザ パルスの設定マージンを有した幅の均一な記録マークの形成が可能となる。
[0110] また、本発明の情報記録装置では、前記休止期間が前記レーザ光の立下り時間よ り大きくなるように設定されて 、ることが好ま U、。 [0111] 上記構成によれば、休止期間が前記レーザ光の立下り時間より大きくなつている。 このため、レーザパワーは記録パワーから中間パワーまで下がったあと、再び記録パ ヮ一に戻る。そのため、情報記録媒体に与える熱量を制御することができる。従って、 レーザパルスが不適切に変形することなぐ所望のレーザパルスが与えられるので、 情報記録媒体上に正しい記録マークを形成することができる。
[0112] また、本発明の情報記録装置では、前記休止期間が 1Tと等しくなるように設定され ていることが好ましい。
[0113] 上記構成によれば、休止期間をレーザ光の立下り時間より確実に大きくすることが できる。例えば、チャネルクロックの周波数が 264MHzの場合、 1Tは約 3. 8nsであ る。また、所定のレーザパワーに安定するまでのレーザ光の立下り時間は、約 2ns程 度である。よって、休止期間をレーザ光の立下り時間より大きい 1Tとすることで、レー ザ光の立下り時間より大きくすることができる。従って、レーザパルスが不適切に変形 せず、所望のレーザパルスが得られるので、情報記録媒体上に正しい記録マークを 形成することができる。
[0114] また、本発明の情報記録装置では、前記記録マークを形成しないスペース期間に おけるレーザパワーであるスペースパワーと前記第 2の記録パワーとが等しくなるよう に設定されて 、ることが好ま 、。
[0115] 上記構成によれば、使用するレーザパワーの種類を 1種類減らすことができる。従 つて、情報記録装置の回路構成を簡単にすることができる。

請求の範囲
[1] マーク長が所定の長さ未満の記録マークについては、第 1の記録パワーを有する 1 つの記録パルスで形成し、マーク長が所定の長さ以上の記録マークについては、第
1の記録パワーよりも低い第 2の記録パワーを有する休止期間にて第 1の記録パワー を有する記録パルスを分割して記録マークを形成する記録マークの形成方法におい て、
前記休止期間が、記録マークのマーク長によらず一定になり、かつ、記録パルスの 分割数によらず一定になるように設定されて 、ることを特徴とする記録マークの形成 方法。
[2] 記録媒体に対して、マーク長が所定の長さ未満の記録マークについては、第 1の記 録パワーを有する 1つの記録パルスで形成し、マーク長が所定の長さ以上の記録マ ークについては、第 1の記録パワーよりも低い第 2の記録パワーを有する休止期間に て第 1の記録パワーを有する記録パルスを分割して記録マークを形成する情報記録 方法において、
前記休止期間が、記録マークのマーク長によらず一定になり、かつ、記録パルスの 分割数によらず一定になるように設定されて ヽることを特徴とする情報記録方法。
[3] 情報記録媒体に対して、レーザ光を照射して記録マークを形成する記録マーク形 成手段であって、マーク長が所定の長さ未満の記録マークについては、第 1の記録 パワーを有する 1つの記録パルスで形成し、マーク長が所定の長さ以上の記録マー クについては、第 1の記録パワーよりも低い第 2の記録パワーを有する休止期間にて 第 1の記録パワーを有する記録パルスを分割する記録マーク形成手段を備えた情報 記録装置において、
上記記録マーク形成手段は、前記休止期間を、記録マークのマーク長によらず一 定になり、かつ、記録パルスの分割数によらず一定になるように設定することを特徴と する情報記録装置。
[4] 前記の所定の長さ未満の記録マークのマーク長は、最短マーク長以上 5T以下で ある一方、前記所定の長さ以上の記録マークのマーク長は、 6T以上最長マーク長以 下であることを特徴とする請求の範囲第 3項に記載の情報記録装置。
[5] 前記所定の長さ未満の記録マークのマーク長は、最短マーク長以上 6T以下である 一方、前記所定の長さ以上の記録マークのマーク長は、 7T以上最長マーク長以下 であることを特徴とする請求の範囲第 3項に記載の情報記録装置。
[6] 前記休止期間が前記レーザ光の立下り時間より大きくなるように設定されていること を特徴とする請求の範囲第 3項から第 5項のいずれか 1項に記載の情報記録装置。
[7] 前記休止期間が 1Tと等しくなるように設定されていることを特徴とする請求の範囲 第 3項から第 6項のいずれか 1項に記載の情報記録装置。
[8] 前記記録マークを形成しないスペース期間におけるレーザパワーであるスペースパ ヮ一と前記第 2の記録パワーとが等しくなるように設定されて!、ることを特徴とする請 求の範囲第 3項から第 7項のいずれか 1項に記載の情報記録装置。
[9] 最短マーク長の記録マークを形成する記録パワー力 前記最短マーク長の記録マ ーク以外の記録マークを形成する記録パワーよりも高く設定されていることを特徴と する請求の範囲第 3項から第 8項のいずれか 1項に記載の情報記録装置。
[10] さらに、上記最短マーク長の記録マークに続く短マーク長の記録マークを形成する 記録パワーが、これらの記録マーク以外の記録マークを形成する記録パワーよりも高 く設定されていることを特徴とする請求の範囲第 9項に記載の情報記録装置。
[11] 請求の範囲第 3項から第 10項のいずれか 1項に記載の情報記録装置により記録さ れることを特徴とする情報記録媒体。
[12] 請求の範囲第 1項に記載の記録マークの形成方法により記録されることを特徴とす る情報記録媒体。
[13] 請求の範囲第 1項に記載の記録マークの形成方法で記録を行うための記録情報が 記録されて!ゝることを特徴とする情報記録媒体。
