Definitions

  • the object of the invention is a tobacco-cartridge to be attached into a cigarette- paper case for self-made cigarettes, wherein the tobacco-portion for one cigarette is filled in a non-smokable cylindrical tube that is longer than the paper-case and there is an unfilled part on one side.
  • Another object of the invention is a method for the production of tobacco-cartridge, where tobacco is filled into the cylindrical-case, this way tobacco bar is produced, and the bar is cut into suitable-sized pieces to make cigarettes.
  • the object of the invention is a method for the production of tobacco-cartridge-filled cigarette- paper cases, where cigarette-paper case is produced at the end of the smoke- filter.
  • Self-made cigarettes are very popular these days, which usually consist of a filter-equipped paper-case and a tobacco-cartridge of cut tobacco.
  • the cartridge is usually a thin-wall tube that is made of materials that are unburnable or unsuitable for smoking (usually aluminum or polyester-foil), out of which the consumer fills the tobacco-bar into the paper-case using some kind of a tool.
  • cigarette-body (cigarette-body), and these are placed onto the production-line in pairs, so that the cigarette-bodies are placed by the common perpendicular axis of the line.
  • the cigarette-bodies are stretched out in axis-direction, and a filter that is twice as long as the filter of the cigarettes under manufacturing is placed tightly between the two cigarette bodies.
  • the next step is to stick the three parts together (the cigarette-bodies and the filter-piece) at the middle with a band that is slightly longer than the filter-piece, this means that the attaching band fully covers the outside edge of the filter-piece, and covers the thin parts which are on the side closer to the cigarette-bodies' filter-pieces.
  • These three parts, which have been stuck together are cut in the middle (perpendicularly to the axis), and we get two finished cigarettes facing opposite to each other.
  • Our aim with the invention was also to work out a procedure, with which the tobacco-cartridge can be produced with this or some other type machine that is suitable to produce cigarettes.
  • the filtered cigarette-paper cases and tobacco- cartridges which are available at the moment are usually sold in a separate box or package, which is inconvenient for the consumer, because he has to keep two packages with him if he wants to smoke during the day or while travelling. Therefore, we have worked out a method that is advantageous in its packaging- procedure, because the tobacco-cartridge is already placed in the filtered paper-case in the manufacturing period. The method is based on the production of the filtered, but empty cigarette-paper cases, which is the following.
  • the machine used for the manufacturing of filtered empty paper-cases works very similar to the one explained above: a filter-piece which is twice as long as the produced cigarette's filter is placed in the middle of the production-line. The next step is to roll a cigarette paper-sheet of normal width, but which is also double size of the finished cigarette around the filter-piece so that there is a same length of empty paper-case hanging out in both directions (this gives the empty part of the paper case without filter).
  • the filter part, or the part of the paper case that is in connection with the filter has previously been added some type of adhesive to in order that the paper-case sticks to the filter.
  • a further difficulty concerning self-made cigarettes is how tobacco can be transported from the cartridge to the paper-case. This is usually done so that the cartridge is placed into the paper-case, then - while holding the tobacco- bar, the cartridge tube is pulled out.
  • the DE Patent No. 10129260 shows a filling instrument that helps complete this task. This instrument - as far as its look and size - is similar to a pen, and in its inside there is a solid sliding-head plunger, that can be operated from the device's outside. When used, the end of the instrument is placed in the end of the tube-shaped cartridge, which hangs out of the paper-case, and the end of the cartridge is held tight to the body of the filling-instrument using the inch-wide rubber edge on the outside of the filling-device.
  • the head of the plunger is pushed inside the paper-case using its exterior operating part, thus transporting the tobacco-bar into the paper-case, and the paper case, which by now has been filled with tobacco comes apart from the cartridge-tube, which remains on the filling device.
  • the disadvantage of this device is that it needs a certain amount of hand-skills even under relaxed circumstances, but when walking or travelling, it can be rather difficult to handle.
  • our further aim is to produce a small-sized and simple-built filling- instrument, that is suitable to help fill in the tobacco from the cartridge into the paper-case simply and quickly.
  • the tobbacco-cartridge consists of the wished tobacco-portion filled in a cylindrical tube that is unsuitable for smoking, which is longer than the case, and includes an unfilled part at one end, and according to the invention, the unfilled part of the tube is made of a separate element which is attached to the tube.
  • the unfilled part can be attached into or onto the end of the tube, or - most conveniently - stuck to it with a band.
  • the filling-device which helps transport the cartridge into the case is according to the invention a cylindrical tube, that is at least as long as the cartridge.
  • This tube includes at least one slot along its side.
  • the filling-instrument combined with the tobacco-cartridge according to the invention makes it possible that the filling of the cartridge into the case does not demand special skills, and can be done easily.
  • a further advantage of this filling-device is that it's simple-built and its material demand is small, therefore its costs are low.
  • tobacco is filled into the cylindrical tube, thus producing a tobacco-bar, after which these bars are cut into suitable- sized pieces to make cigarettes, and then the cartridge-parts which to their full length have been filled with tobacco are provided with unfilled parts in an equipment that is used to unite the cigarettes with the filters so that small tube- parts, which are the same size as the filters are placed in the equipment instead of the filters, and these are attached to the end of the cartridges with a band, just like normal filter cigarettes.
  • the other procedure which helps solve the wished tasks is to produce tobacco- cartridge-filled filtered paper-cases, where a paper case is produced at the filter's end, and then - according to the invention - tobacco-cartridge is attached to the end of the filter, and finally the paper-case is produced.
  • Figure 1 is a vertical section of a known tobacco-cartridge
  • Figure 2a is a section of a possible design of the invention's cartridge, where the unfilled part is attached into the tube,
  • Figure 2b is another possible design of the cartridge, where the unfilled part is attached onto the tube
  • Figure 2c shows a further possible design, where the unfilled part is attached to the tube as an extension
  • Figure 3 shows the filling of a paper-case can be seen with the inventions tobacco-cartridge and filling-instrument
  • Figure 4 contains some perspectivical view of tobacco-cartridges that are manufactured by traditional methods and
  • Figure 5 is a perspectivical view of a filtered cigarette-paper case that has originally been equipped with tobacco-cartridge.
  • FIG. 1 a traditional cartridge 1 can be seen.
  • the cartridge 1 consists of a tobacco-bar 2 filled cylindrical tube 3 and an unfilled part 4.
  • the length of the tube 3 suitably matches the length of the paper-case to be filled, and the unfilled part 4 is of a size that the outhanging part of the cartridge 1 , which is placed into the paper-case can be taken hold of. It is. especially advantageous as far as production-technology is concerned, if the unfilled part's 4 length matches the length of a filter that is usually attached to a same sized cigarette.
  • FIGS 2a, 2b, and 2c show schematically the possible methods to attach the tube 3 and the unfilled part 4 according to the invention.
  • the tube 3 and the unfilled part 4 are placed next to each other and they are attached together with a band 5.
  • the band 5 shown in the Figure covers the whole length of the unfilled part 4, but only a thin margin of the tube 3. It is obvious that bands of other size and placement are also possible, it can for example be shorter, thus covering only a smaller area of the unfilled part, or longer, covering the whole of the tube's length.
  • the filling-device 6 is a solid, cylindrical tube that is longer than the tobacco-cartridge 1.
  • the width of its outside edge is determined not only by the quality of its material, but the quality of the used cut tobacco's structure.
  • the tube's edge 7 cannot be so "sharp" that it cuts the tobacco pieces when used.
  • the filling-device 6 can be equipped with one or several slots. If the slot is made on the whole length of the device, the device can be held on one of the tobacco- cartridges by holding together to a smaller, or stretched to a larger diameter.
  • the outside diameter of the filling device 6 should allow it through the unfilled part 4 of the cartridge 1 into the tube 3 conveniently.
  • a filtered 8 cigarette-paper case 9 is filled so that the cartridge 1 is placed into the paper-case 9 with its tube 3 first, then the filling-device 6 is placed into the unfilled part 4, which hangs out of the paper-case 9. After this, the outhanging unfilled part 4 is held at the places marked by arrows "B", and the filling-device 6 is pushed towards arrow "A". This makes the filling-device 6 enter the cartridge 1 at the unfilled part 4, pushing the tobacco-bar 2.
  • the tube-shaped filling-device 6 is also capable of moving the tobacco-bar 2 just like solid-head plungers. This can probably be explained with the structure of the cut tobacco-pieces.
  • the edge of the tube that is the filling-device 6 should not be sharp, so that it does not cut the tobacco pieces when put under pressure. If the outside edge is of a suitable width, the tobacco-bar 2 moved by the filling-device 6 pushes down the cigarette-paper case 9 from the outside of the tube 3 holding the filter 8. As a result, the filter 8 and the paper-case 9 that by now is filled with the tobacco-bar 2 is released from the emptied cartridge 1 in arrow "C"'s direction.
  • the big advantage of the invention's cartridge 1 compared to the cartridges used at the moment is that its production can be arranged on the existing machines.
  • the production can be as follows.
  • the foil-material - which is exactly the same size - is placed into the machine, which as a result will be the tube 3 of the tobacco- cartridge 1.
  • the tubes 3 equipped with the tobacco-bars 2 are produced in the same way as the cigarette-body, which will be the same size as the cigarette-bodies of the above mentioned thinner type cigarettes.
  • FIG 4 there can be seen a pair of tobacco-cartridges produced this way during the process.
  • the tobacco-filled tubes 3 are in the place of the cigarette- bodies in the machine, whereas the filter-pieces, which are a single filter's double size are replaced by thin-edged tubes, which are twice as long as the produced unfilled parts 4, and which have the same exterior size as the original filter-pieces. These small tubes can originally be cut in half, if the machines make that possible.
  • the tobacco-filled tubes 3 are placed along a common axis in pairs, and between them, in a suitable position of the machine there is a tube 10 as seen in Figure 4.
  • the tube 10 is attached to the tube 3 placed on its two ends with a suitably thick band 11 on the machine.
  • the band 11 can be a paper- stripe with adhesive on one side - as used in normal cigarette production, or some other material of bigger tensile strength, as long as it is possible to add these materials into the existing machines.
  • the band 11 has not yet been fully rolled around tube 10, so it can be seen clearly that the band 11 reaches over the tube 10 and attaches the tube 3 in narrow margins to the outside surface of tube 10, after the edge of the band 11 that hangs out has been folded onto the tube 10 in the thick arrow's direction shown in the illustration.
  • the double size tobacco-cartridge is cut in half on the machine, and then the cartridges 1 on one side, which stand symmetrically to the others are turned upside-down, in order to make them all stand in the same way, thus making packaging convenient.
  • This step can also be done with the above-mentioned machine described in the US Patent No. 5,135,008. It is clear that several other machines of cigarette-production can be capable of producing the tobacco-cartridge's 1 design shown in Figure 3c according to the invention, as far as its construction, it fully matches a traditional cigarette, and its material can also be chosen so that it fits the given cigarette-producing machines as far as technology is concerned.
  • Such filtered paper-cases which include tobacco-cartridges 1 can be produced on the existing machines, with the addition of one step.
  • a product, produced this way can be seen in Figure 5.
  • a filter-piece 12 which is twice as long as the produced filter 8 is placed onto the middle of the production-line (or other transportation-equipment) according to the traditional technology.
  • a new step into the method, which means that a tobacco- cartridge 1 , which includes a tobacco-bar 2 is attached to both ends of the filter- piece 12.
  • a cigarette-paper 13 of standard width which is double the size of a single cigarette is rolled symmetrically around the two cartridges 1 and the filter-piece, so the cartridge 1 hangs out on both ends to the same extent of the cigarette-paper 13 as seen in the Figure.
  • the cigarette-paper 13 is also in this case only stuck to the filter- piece 12. If we wish, the band 11 can be symmetrically rolled and stuck to the middle.
  • the product is cut in half, so we get two, tobacco-cartridge 1 filled, filtered 8 cigarette-paper cases 9, out of which one of them should be turned upside-down in order to stand one way.
  • the cartridges 1 can be placed so that the unfilled part 4 is at the further end from the filter 8 in the cartridge 1. This way, the consumer only has to remove the cartridge 1 in order to light the ready-made cigarette. However, it can also be arranged that the unfilled part 4 is connected to the filter 8. In this case, the consumer takes out the cartridge 1 before smoking, and places it back into the paper-case after turning it around.
