  • the latch arrangement 28 has the first portion 30 thereof fixed to the securement portion 20 of the storage box assembly and engages the second portion 32, which is secured to the storage box portion 18 of the assembly. Locking of the latch arrangement 28 is suitably effected by means of a padlock arrangement 33.
  • Figures 6 to 11 show an alternative embodiment of the storage box assembly 16 comprising a storage box portion 18 which is detachably secured to a securement portion 20, the securement portion 20 being secured to the bodywork 4 of the motorcycle 2.
  • the securement portion 20 is in the form of a bracket, such as of flanged plate form, to which is upwardly and forwardly received, and detachably secured, the storage box portion 18.
  • the securement portion 20 is provided with side members 35 to prevent lateral movement of the storage box portion 18 when secured, and with a projecting member 37 on the rear edge of the upper surface to prevent movement of the storage box portion 20 towards the rear wheel 6.
  • the side members 35 are each provided with a ridged member 39 which acts as a spacer to prevent the storage box portion contacting the internal face of the securement portion 20.
  • the securement portion 20 has a protruding section 41 along its lower edge which contains a first portion 43 of a securing pin and socket arrangement 45.
  • the securement portion 20 of the storage box assembly 16 may be secured to the bodywork 4 of the motorcycle 2 in the same manner to that described for the first embodiment .
  • the storage box portion 18 has a forward-facing region 24 which may be suitably contoured or angled to ensure adequate clearance with the rear wheel 6 of the motorcycle 2.
  • the rear-facing region has a cut-away section 49 into which can be fitted the protruding section 41 of the securement portion 20.
  • the storage box portion 18 incorporates an access cover 26, which is hinged or slidable relative to the remainder of the storage box portion 18. In embodiments of the invention the storage box portion may be openable only when the storage box portion 18 is detached from the securement portion 20.
  • the access cover 26 could be provided at a top, front, rear or side face of the storage box portion 18 and is preferably provided with locking means such as a cam lock.

  • the second portion 47 slidably engages the first portion 43 by means of being inserted into the recess of the first portion and the protruding section 41 of the securement section is secured in place in the corresponding cut-away section 49 of the storage box section 18.
  • Locking of the pin and socket arrangement 45 is suitably effected by means of a locking arm (not shown) present within the first portion 43 which on insertion of the second portion 47 engages a notch 51 present on the second portion 47.
  • the locking arm can be disengaged from the notch 51 by means of a key (not shown) inserted in a lock 53 present on the surface of the securement portion 20 facing away from the body 4 of the motorcycle 2, as shown in Figure 11.
  • the lock 53 may be set to one side of the securement portion 20 rather than centrally to allow for the presence of a reflector.
  • a cover (not shown) may be provided to prevent dirt and debris entering the lock 53.
  • the storage box assembly 16 may comprise metal or plastics material, or combinations thereof. Such plastics material may be reinforced, such as with fibres, suitable fibres being, for example, carbon fibres or aramid fibres. Examples of aramid fibres are Kevlar (Registered Trade Mark) fibres.
  • the storage box assembly 16 may have a decorative finish, for example in a fabric pattern.

Abstract

L'invention concerne un motocycle comprenant un ensemble coffre (16, 34) qui est fixé au-dessous de la caisse arrière (4) du motocycle (2) au niveau de la zone de plaque arrière de celui-ci.
