Description

明細書 光磁気記録媒体およびその製造方法並びに光磁気記録装置 技術分野
本発明は、 基板上に形成された位相ピットによる ROM (Re ad On l y Memo r y) と光磁気記録膜による RAM (R a n d om Ac c e s s M emo r y) との両方の機能を持つ光磁気記録媒体並びに光磁気記録装置に関し、 特に、 両者を良好に再生するための光磁気記録媒体および光磁気記録装置に関す る。 背景技術
図 21は従来の I SO規格の光磁気ディスクの平面図を示す。 図 21に示され るように、 光磁気ディスク 70は、 リードインエリア 71と、 リードアウトエリ ァ 72と、 ュ一ザエリア 73とに分割される。 リードインエリア 71とリードア ゥトエリア 72とは位相ピットで構成される ROMエリアである。 位相ピットは ポリカーボネー卜基板に凹凸で形成される。 この ROMエリアとなる位相ピット の深さは、 再生時の光強度変調が最大になるように設定される。 リードインエリ ァ 71とリ一ドアウトエリア 72の間はュ一ザエリア 73すなわち RAMエリア に相当する。 この RAMエリアにユーザは自由に情報を記録することができる。 図 22はユーザエリァ 73の拡大図を示す。 図 22に示されるよ—うに、—トラッ キングガイドとなるダル一ブ 74に挟まれたランド 75に、 ヘッダ部 76となる 位相ピット 78とユーザデータ部 77とが確立される。 ユーザデータ部 77は、 ダル一ブ Ί 4に挟まれた平坦なランド 75で構成される。 ユーザデータ部 77に は光磁気信号として情報が記録される。
光磁気信号の読み出しにあたってユーザエリァ 73には弱いレーザビームが照 射される。 いわゆる極力一効果の働きで、 レーザビームの偏光面は記録膜の磁ィ匕 の向きに応じて変化する。 反射光の偏光成分の強弱により信号の有無は判断され る。 これにより RAM情報は読み出される。 このような光磁気ディスクの特徴を生かす研究開発が進められ、 例えば日本国 特開 6— 202850号公報に開示されるように、 ROM— RAMによる同時再 生可能なコンカレント ROM— RAM光ディスクが提案される。 例えば図 23に は、 かかる ROM— RAMによる同時再生可能な光磁気記録媒体 81の半径方向 の断面構造が示される。 この光磁気記録媒体 81では、 射出成形により位相ピッ ト 82が転写されたポリカーボネート等の基板 83に、 誘電体膜 84、 TbFe Co等の光磁気記録膜 85、 誘電体膜 86、 A 1 (アルミニウム〉 反射膜 87、 保護膜としての UV (紫外線) 硬化膜 88が積層される。
かかる構造の光磁気記録媒体 81では、 図 23および図 24に示されるように、 ROM情報は基板 83の位相ピット列 PPにより固定記録される。 RAM情報〇 MMは位相ピット列 PPに光磁気記録により記録される。 なお、 図 23は図 24 の 23— 23線に沿った断面図に相当する。 図 24に示される例では位相ピット PPがトラッキングガイドとなる。 その結果、 図 22に示されるようなグループ 74は形成されていない。 このような ROM情報と RAM情報とを同一記録面に 有する光情報記録媒体では、 位相ピット P Pからなる ROM情報と光磁気記録〇 MMからなる R AM情報とを同時に再生するために多くの課題が存在する。
ROM情報の読み出しにあたって生じる光強度変調は RAM情報の再生ノイズ の一因となる。 このために、 本出願人は、 PCTZJ P 02/00159 (国際 出願日 2002年 1月 11日) の国際出願で 1解決策を提案した。 この提案では、 ROM情報の読み出しに伴う光強度変調信号を読み出し駆動用レーザに負帰還さ せることで、 光強度変調ノイズの低減が図られる。 しか.しながら、 ROM情報の 光強度変調度が大きい場合には、 これだけでは十分にノイズは低減されることが できない。 しかも、 高速でレーザの強度をフィードバック制御することが困難で あるという問題もある。
そこで、 ROM情報の光強度変調度を小さくし位相ピットからのノイズを小さ くすることで、 前述の RAM信号へのノイズを抑制することが試みられた。 しか しながら、 この場合には、 ROM信号の強度が極端に小さくならなければ、 十分 なレベルで RAMの再生信号を得ることはできない。 こうして ROM信号の読み 出しが困難となってしまう。 つまり、 ROM情報の光強度変調度の調整だけでは R OM信号と RAM信号との両方を正常に読み出すことができないという問題が あった。

本発明は、 上記実状に鑑みてなされたもので、 位相ピットからなる R OM情報 と光磁気記録による RAM情報とを安定に同時再生するための光磁気記録媒体お よび光磁気記録装置を提供することを目的とする。
また、 本発明は、 R OM情報および RAM情報の再生信号のジ タを所定の範 囲内に抑えるための光磁気記録媒体および光磁気記録装置を提供することを目的 とする。 '
上記目的を達成するために、 本発明によれば、 測定用光ビームに直交する基準 平面に対して、 測定用光ビームの基板への照射位置を通過する位相ピット列方向 の接線を中心に基板が 2 0度傾いた姿勢で測定されるシングルパスの第 1複屈折 値と、 基準平面に対して、 基板面内で位相ピット列方向に直交する直線を中心に 基板が 2 0度傾いた姿勢で測定されるシングルパスの第 2複屈折値との差すなわ ち複屈折差は 4 7 [nm] 以下に設定される。
-このように複屈折差が 4 7 [nm] 以下に設定されると、,記録磁性膜に記録さ れるデータの読み出しにあたってジッ夕は十分に低減されることができる。 特に、 前述の複屈折差は 3 0 [ nm] 以下に設定されることが望まれる。 基板は例えば ポリカーボネートおよびアモルファスポリオレフインのいずれかから構成されれ ばよい。
位相ピットの光学深さは、 情報の読み出しにあたって用いられる読み出し用光 ビームの波長をえとして 0. 0 6 λ〜0 . 1 4 λの範囲で設定される。 一般に、 光磁気記録媒体では、 位相ピットにより R OM情報は記録される。 位相ピットの 光学深さが深ければ深いほど R OM情報は確実に読み出されることができる。 そ の一方で、 記録媒体には記録磁性膜の磁化により RAM情報は記録されることが できる。 位相ピットの光学深さが浅ければ浅いほど RAM情報は確実に読み出さ れることができる。 位相ピットの光学深さが前述のように設定されれば、 OM 情報だけでなく RAM情報も確実に読み出されることができる。 特に、 位相ピッ トの光学深さは、 情報の読み出しにあたって用いられる読み出し用光ビームの波 長を λとして 0 . 0 7 3え〜 0. 1 0 5えの範囲で設定されることが望まれる。 位相ピッ卜の変調度は例えば 8 %〜5 5 %の範囲で設定されればよい。 こうし た範囲で位相ピットの変調度が設定されれば、 1 5 %以下のジッタと安定したト ラッキングとが実現される。
以上のような記録媒体は、 ポリカーボネートやアモルファスポリオレフインを 使用した射出成形により作成される。 基板には、 9 0 °C以上の温度範囲でァニー ル処理が施されればよい。 このァニ一ル処理により、 基板の複屈折差は 3 7 [n m] 以下に抑制されることができる。 特に、 温度範囲が 1 0 0。C以上で設定され れば、 複屈折差は 3 2 [nm] 以下に留められる。 このとき、 RAM情報の読み 出しにあたってジッ夕は 8 [ ] 以下に抑え込まれることができる。 ただし、 温 度範囲は 1 3 (TC以下で設定されることが望まれる。 温度範囲が 1 3 0 °Cを超え ると、 基板には反りが発生する。 反りは RAM情報の読み出しを妨げてしまう。 基板のァニール処理の実施後に基板の表面に磁性膜を形成する。
前述のような記録媒体の使用にあたって、 光ビームを出力する光源と、 記録媒 体を支持するスピンドルと、 記録媒体上の記録トラックに対して直交する偏光面 で記録媒体に向けて光ビーム-を照射する光学系とを備える記録媒体駆動装置が提 供されてもよい。 こういった記録媒体駆動装置では、 記録媒体上の記録トラック に平行の偏光面で記録媒体に向けて光ビ一ムが照射される場合に比べて良好なジ ッ夕は確保されることができる。 記録媒体駆動装置には、 記録媒体で反射する光 ビームおよび反射前の光ビームの間で偏光面の回転を検出する第 1光検出器と、 記録媒体で反射する光ビームの強度を検出する第 2光検出器とが組み込まれれば よい。 第 1光検出器は RAM情報の解読にあたって利用される。 第 2光検出器は R OM情報の解読にあたって利用される。 図面の簡単な説明

以下、 添付図面を参照しつつ本発明の実施形態を説明する。
図 1は光磁気記録媒体すなわち光磁気ディスク 1 Iを示す。 この光磁気ディス ク 1 1はいわゆるコンカレント R OM— RAM光磁気ディスクとして構成される。 光磁気ディスク 1 1の直径は例えば 1 2 0 mmに設定される。
図 2は光磁気ディスク 1 1の断面構造を概略的に示す。 光磁気ディスク 1 1は 基板 1 2を備える。 基板 1 2は光透過性の素材から構成される。 こういった素材 には、 例えばポリ力一ポネートやアモルファスポリオレフィンといった樹脂材料 が用いられればよい。 基板 1 2は射出成形法で成型される。
基板 1 2の表面には位相ピット 1 3が転写形成される。 位相ピット 1 3は基板
1 2に凹凸で形成される。 基板 1 3の表面には、 アンダーコート膜 1 4、 記録磁 性膜 1 5、 補助磁性膜 1 6、 オーバーコート膜 1 7、 反射膜 1 8および保護膜 1
9が順番に積層される。 これらのアンダーコート膜 1 4、 記録磁性膜 1 5、 補助 磁性膜 1 6、 オーバ一コート膜 1 7、 反射膜 1 8および保護膜 1 9は位相ピット
1 3上に形成される。 この光磁気ディスク 1 1では位相ピット 1 3上の記録磁性 膜 1 5にユーザデ一夕が書き込まれる。 この光磁気ディスク 1 1では、 第 1斜め入射光ビームにより基板 1 2で測定さ れるシングルパスの第 1複屈折値と、 同様に第 2斜め入射光ビームにより基板 1 2で測定されるシングルパスの第 2複屈折値との差分すなわち複屈折差は 4 7 n m以下に設定される。 第 1複屈折値の測定にあたって、 基板 1 2は、 例えば図 3 に示されるように、 測定用光ビーム 2 1に直交する基準平面 2 2に対して、 測定 用光ビーム 2 1の照射位置を通過する半径線 2 3回りに 2 0度の角度 αで傾く姿 勢に保持される。 同様に、 第 2複屈折値の測定にあたって、 基板 1 2は、 測定用 光ビーム 2 1に直交する基準平面 2 2に対して、 測定用光ビーム 2 1の照射位置 を通過する位相ピット列方向すなわちトラッキング方向の接線 2 4回りに 2 0度 の角度 iSで傾く姿勢に保持される。 第 1および第 2複屈折値の測定にあたって一 般の複屈折測定器が用いられればよい。
本発明者は 1 . 2 mm厚さの位相ピット基板を準備した。 位相ピット基板には、 図 4に示されるように、 隣接する位相ピットの間隔すなわちトラックピッチ T p = 1 . 6 tm、 位相ピット幅 P w= 0 . 4 0 /im、 最短ピットの長さ 0 . 8 3 2 ; mの E F M変調で位相ピッ卜が形成された。 位相ピット基板は射出成形法で作 成された。 ここで、 複数の位相ピット深さを有するスタンパは準備された。 位相 ピット基板の作成にあたって位相ピットの深さは数種類に変更された。 同時に、 図 5に示されるように、 従来のランド記録用の連続トラックから構成される連続 溝基板が準備された。 ランド記録用の連続溝基板のトラックピッチ (隣り合うグ ループ間の距離) は 0 . 9 0 mである。 位相ピット基板および連続溝基板とも に、 基板の材料や、〜後述する基板ァニールの条件は同一に揃えられた。 これら複 数の基板は複屈折測定器に装着された。 前述の方法で、 図 6に示されるように、 2 0度傾けた姿勢で基板の複屈折差は測定された。 複屈折測定器には株式会社ォ 一ク社製 AD R— 2 0 0 Bが用いられた。 複屈折測定器のレーザビームの波長は 6 3 5 nmである。
次に、 前述の位相ピット基板および連続溝基板から光磁気ディスクが作成され た。 作成にあたって複数条件で位相ピット基板および連続溝基板にはァ二一ル処 理が施された。 その後に、 位相ピット基板および連続溝基板はスパッタ装置に投 入された。 スパッタ装置の複数のチャンバ内では到達真空度は 5 X e— 5 [ P a] 以下に設定された。 第 1のチャンバでは S iターゲットが装着された。 位相 ピット基板や連続溝基板は第 1のチヤンバに搬送された。 第 1のチヤンバには A rガスと N2ガスとが導入された。 こうして反応性スパッタは実施された。 その 結果、 膜厚 8 Onmの S i N膜すなわちアンダーコート膜 14は成膜された。 次に位相ピット基板や連続溝基板は第 2のチャンバに搬送された。 第 2のチヤ ンバでは、 膜厚 3011111の丁 22 (FeCo12) 78膜すなわち記録磁性膜 15 および膜厚 4nmの Gd19 (F eCo20) 膜すなわち補助磁性膜 16が順番に 成膜された。 続いて第 1のチャンバに位相ピット基板や連続溝基板は搬送された。 第 1のチャンパでは膜厚 5 nmの S i N膜すなわちオーバ一コート膜 17および 膜厚 50 nmの A 1 (アルミニウム) 膜すなわち反射膜 18が成膜された。 反射 膜 18上に紫外線硬化樹脂コ一トすなわち保護膜 19が形成された。 こうして光 磁気ディスクは作成された。
作成された光磁気ディスクは記録再生装置に順番に装着された。 記録再生装置 で位相ピット列による ROMジッ夕と位相ピット列上の M〇再生ジッ夕すなわち RAMジッタとが測定された。 記録再生装置ではレーザビームの波長は 650 η mに設定された。 開口数 NAは 0. 55に設定された。 線速は 4. 8 [m/s] に設定された。 個々の光磁気ディスクでは、 最短マーク 0. 832 mのEFM 変調で記録磁性膜に磁界変調記録で所定のデータが記録された。 ジッ夕の測定に あたって ROMおよび RAMのレーザの再生パワーはともに 1. 5 [mW] に設 定された。 磁界変調記録時にはレーザパワー Pw= 8. 0 [mW] の DC発光が 用いられた。 再生時のレーザビームの偏光方向はトラック方向に対して垂直方向 に設定された。 なお、 こうした磁界変調記録だけでなく光変調記録でも同様の効 果は得られる。
図 7および図 8にジッ夕の測定結果を示す。 ここでは、 位相ピットの光学深さ は 0. 095 λ (実深さ 40 nm) に設定された。 図 7は位相ピット上の M〇再 生ジッ夕すなわち RAMジッタを示す。 図 8は位相ピットの ROMジッタを示す。 位相ピット基板の材料は帝人株式会社製パンライト ST— 3000と AD— 90 0TGとが使用された。 位相ピット基板は射出成形で作成された。 位相ピット基 板についてァニール温度は 90で、 110°Cおよび 130 と変えられた。 こう して 6種類の光磁気ディスクでは 2 0度の斜め入射光ビームの複屈折差は異なる 値に設定された。 同様に、 連続溝基板について 6種類の光磁気ディスクは作成さ れた。 基板の材料ゃァニール温度には同一の条件が設定された。 図 9は連続溝基 板の結果を示す。 連続溝基板でも同様の条件で S i Nアンダーコート膜、 T b F e C o記録磁性膜、 補助磁性膜、 S i Nオーバーコート膜、 A 1反射膜および保 護膜は形成された。 ランド部のトラツキンダサーポに基づき前述と同じ条件で記 録磁性膜に所定のデータは書き込まれた。
図 7に示されるように、 複屈折差が増加すると位相ピット上の R AMジッタが 急激に増大することが確認される。 一般に、 C D (コンパクトディスク) ではェ ラ一訂正に C I R C (Cross-Interleaved read-Solomon Code) 方式が使用され る。 この C I R C方式では、 1 X 1 0 _2以下のエラ一率で実用上十分にエラー 訂正の品質は確保される。 こうしたエラー率の実現にあたってジッ夕は 1 5 %以 下に抑え込まれればよい。 したがって、 2 0度の斜め入射光ビームの複屈折差は 4 7 nm以下に設定されればよい。 さらに様々な変動要因によるジッ夕の上昇が 見込まれる場合には、 ジッ夕は 1 0 %以下に抑制されることが好ましい。 すなわ ち、 2 0度の斜め入射光ビ一ムの複屈折差は 3 7 nm以下に設定されればよい。 最大限に様々な変動要因が見込まれる場合には、 ジッタは 8 %以下に抑制されれ ばよい。 この場合には、 2 0度の斜め入射光ビームの複屈折差は 3 0 n m以下に 設定されればよい。 ジッ夕が 8 %以下に抑制されると、 様々な変動下でも読み取 りエラーが発生することなく十分な品質は確保されることができる。 ここで、 本 発明者は、 *f物レンズのフォ一カスの調整で R AMジッ夕の抑制を試みた。 しか しながら、 R AMジッ夕の改善は僅かであった。 一方、 図 8に示されるように、 位相ピット基板の R OMジッ夕は 2 0度の斜め入射光ビームの複屈折差に関係な くほぼ一定に維持された。 言い換えれば、 前述の第 1斜め入射光ビームで測定さ れるシングルパスの第 1複屈折値と、 前述の第 2斜め入射光ビームで測定される シンダルパスの第 2複屈折値との差分すなわち複屈折差が縮小されれば、 RAM ジッ夕は大幅に改善されることが理解される。
図 9は通常の記録方法であるランド記録での結果を示す。 ランド記録では複屈 折差に対してジッタは緩やかに上昇する。 5 O nmまで複屈折差が上昇してもジ ッ夕は 8 %以下に抑制される。 前述と同様に、 フォーカスの調整でジッ夕の抑制 が試みられると、 複屈折差により RAMジッ夕の上昇はほぼ完全に抑制されるこ とができる。
図 1 0は、 位相ピット基板の垂直入射の複屈折とジッタとの関係を示す。 ここ で、 垂直入射の複屈折とは、 図 3で基板を傾ける角度ひ、 /3をともに 0度として 測定した複屈折の値である。 言い換えれば、 レーザビーム 2 4に対して基板は垂 直姿勢に維持される。 一般的な複屈折の測定方法である。 図 1 0に示されるよう に、 一般的な垂直入射の複屈折と RAMジッ夕との間には相関がないことがわか る。 位相ピット上の RAMジッ夕は、 図 3に示されるように、 斜め入射光ビーム で測定される複屈折の値が傾斜の方向に応じて異なることと密接に関係している。 図 1 1は基板の傾き角度ひ、 |Sと複屈折差との関係の代表例を示す。 傾き角度 が増大すると、 半径方向と位相ピット列方向との複屈折差力増加する。 図 1 2に は、 1 0 %以下にジッ夕力卿制される際に基板の傾きと複屈折差との関係が示さ れる。 複屈折差を y、 基板角度を Xとしたとき、 以下を満足すればよい。

y = 0.082 2 + 0324X · · ·(!) 次に本発明者は前述と同様に位相ピット基板を作成した。 ここでは、 位相ピッ トの光学深さは同じく 0 . 0 9 5 λ (実深さ 4 0 nm) に設定された。 位相ピッ ト基板の材料にはパンライト S T— 3 0 0 0のポリカーボネートが用いられた。 位相ピット基板は射出成形で作成された。 図 1 3に示されるように、—基板のァニ ール温度は細かく変更された。 ァニール時間は 3 0分に設定された。 図 1 3から 明らかなように、 ァニール温度が 9 0 °C以上に設定されると、 3 7 nm以下の複 屈折差が確保され、 ジッ夕は 1 0 %以下に抑制される。 さらにァニール温度が 1 0 0 °C以上に設定されると、 ジッタは 8 %以下に抑制される。 その一方で、 1 4 0 °C以上では基板の反りが急激に増加し測定不能となる。 したがって、 ァニール 温度は 9 0 °C〜 1 3 0 °Cの範囲で設定されることが好ましい。
次に本発明者は前述と同様に位相ピット基板を作成した。 位相ピット基板の材 料にはパンライト S T— 3 0 0 0のポリカーボネ一トが用いられた。 ァニール温 度は 130°Cに設定された。 図 14に示されるように、 位相ピットの光学深さは 変更された。 図 14から明らかなように、 位相ピットの光学深さが 0. 14 1以 下に設定されると、 RAMジッタは 15%以下に抑制される。 ただし、 位相ピッ トの光学深さが 0. 06 λを下回ると、 安定したトラッキングが確保されること ができない。 その結果、 正常な記録再生が実現されることができない。 したがつ て、 位相ピットの光学深さは 0. 06 λ以上で確保されなければならない。 位相 ピットの光学深さが 0. 06λ〜0. 14 λの範囲で設定されれば、 15%以下 のジッタと安定したトラッキングとは実現される。 さらに、 位相ピットの光学深 さが 0. 065 λ〜0. 118 λの範囲で設定されると、 ROMジッ夕および R AMジッタともに 10%以下に抑制される。 位相ピッ卜の光学深さが 0. 073 入〜 0. 105 λの範囲で設定されると、 ROMジッ夕および RAMジッ夕とも に 8%以下に抑制される。 ここで、 位相ピットの光学深さの変更は、 位相ピット 基板の作成にあたって利用されるスタンパの作成条件と、 作成後の基板に施され るディープ U V照射とで実現された。
次に本発明者は前述と同様に位相ピット基板を作成した。 位相ピット基板の材 料にはパンライト S T— 3000のポリ力一ポネー卜が用いられた。 位相ピット 基板は射出成形で成形された。 個々の位相ピット基板ごとに異なる位相ピッ卜の 光学深さは設定された。 位相ピッ卜基板には 130°Cで 30分のァニール処理が 実施された。 その後、 前述と同様に位相ピット基板から光磁気ディスクは作成さ れた。 作成された光磁気ディスクで変調度とジッタとが測定された。 作成された 光磁気ディスクは順番にテスターにセヅ された。 位相ピットのトラッキングサ ーポに基づき位相ピッ卜の ROM信号は再生された。 レ一ザビームの波長は 65 Onmに設定された。 開口数 NAは 0. 55に設定された。 線速は 4. 8 [m/ s] に設定された。 個々の光磁気ディスクでは、 最短マーク 0. 832 111の£ FM変調で記録磁性膜に磁界変調記録で所定のデータは記録された。 同様に位相 ピット ROMも EFM変調の最短マーク 0. 832 で記録された。 位相ピッ ト列による R〇 Mジッ夕と R O M上の R A Mジッタとが測定された。 ジッ夕の測 定にあたって ROMおよび RAMのレーザの再生パワーは 1. 5 [mW] に設定 された。 磁界変調記録時にはレーザパワー Pw= 8. 0 [mW] の DC発光が用 いられた。 再生時のレーザビームの偏光方向はトラック方向に対して垂直方向に 設定された。
変調度の算出にあたって、 光磁気ディスクから反射するレーザビームの光強度 は測定された。 後述されるように、 レーザビームの光強度は、 相互に直交する偏 光面ごとに 2分割フォトディテクタで検出される。 フォトディテクタから出力さ れる電気信号は加算アンプで加算される。 こうしてレーザビーム全体の強度は検 される。 加算された電気信号はオシロスコープに入力される。 ,図 1 5に示され るように、 レーザビームが位相ピットに照射されると反射レベルは低下する。 そ の一方で、 位相ピットのないスペース部にレーザビームが照射されると反射レべ ルは高まる。 こうした反射レベルの高低差が位相ピットからの R OM信号強度に 相当する。 ここで、 スペース部反射レベル L aと R OM信号強度 L bとの比で変 調度は表される。 具体的には、 次式に従って変調度 Mは算出される。

La 図 1 6から明らかなように、 変調度の上昇とともに R OMジッ夕は減少し、 逆 に RAMジッ夕は増加する。 位相ピットの変調度が 5 5 %以下に設定されれば、 ROMジッタおよび RAMジッ夕はともに 1 5 %以下に抑制されることができる。 ただし、 位相ピットの光学深さが縮小され変調度が 8 %を下回ると、 安定したト
1ラッキング ' が確保—さ—■■ .—れるこ一とがで - き―ない。 -—そ■ ' の結果 -、 記録再 ,生は .....正常に実現され . ることができない。 したがって、 位相ピットの変調度が 8 %〜 5 5 %の範囲で設 定されれば、 1 5 %以下のジッ夕と安定したトラッキングとが実現される。 変調 度が 1 1 %〜3 9 %の範囲で設定されれば、 R OMジッ夕と RAMジッ夕とはと もに 1 0 %以下に抑制される。 変調度が 1 4 %〜 3 4 %の範囲で設定されれば、 R OMジッ夕と RAMジッ夕とはともに 8 %以下に抑制される。
以上のように、 第 1斜め入射光ビームで測定される複屈折と、 第 2斜め入射光 ビームで測定される複屈折との差分すなわち複屈折差が前述の値以下に設定され た上で位相ピットの光学深さおよび変調度が調整されると、 ROMおよび RAM ともに実用レベルで良好なジッ夕は実現されることができる。 この複屈折差が前 述の範囲から逸脱すると、 位相ピットの光学深さが変更されたり変調度が調整さ れたりしても R OMおよび R AMともに実用レベルのジッ夕が確保されることは できない。
以上のような光磁気ディスク 1 1の記録再生には光磁気ディスク駆動装置 3 1 が使用される。 この光磁気ディスク駆動装置 3 1は、 例えば図 1 7に示されるよ うに、 光磁気ディスク 1 1を支持するスピンドル 3 2を備える。 スピンドル 3 2 は中心軸回りで光磁気ディスク 1 1を回転駆動することができる。
光磁気ディスク駆動装置 3 1は光源すなわち半導体レ一ザダイォ一ド 3 3を備 える。 半導体レ一ザダイオード 3 3は直線偏光の光ビームすなわちレーザビーム 3 4を出力する。 光磁気ディスク 1 1がスピンドル 3 2に装着されると、 いわゆ る光学系 3 5の働きでレーザビーム 3 4は光磁気ディスク 1 1まで導かれる。 光学系 3 5は、 例えば、 光磁気ディスク 1 1の表面に向き合わせられる対物レ ンズ 3 6を備える。 半導体レーザダイオード 3 3および対物レンズ 3 6の間には 例えばビームスプリッタ 3 7が配置される。 半導体レーザダイォ一ド 3 3のレー ザビーム 3 4はビームスプリッ夕 3 7を通過する。 その後、 レーザビ一ム 3 4は 対物レンズ 3 6から光磁気ディスク 1 1に照射される。 対物レンズ 3 6は、 光磁 気ディスク 1 1の表面に微小なビームスポットを形成する。 レーザビーム 3 4は、 基板 1 2、 アンダーコート膜 1 4、 記録磁性膜 1 5、 補助磁性膜 1 6、 オーバー コート膜 1 7を通過した後に反射膜 1 8に至る。 レーザビーム 3 4は反射膜 1 8 で反射する。 こうしてレーザビーム 3 4は再び対物レンズ 3 6からビームスプリ ッタ 3 7に導かれる。
ビームスプリッタ 3 7には 2ビ一ムウォラストン 3 8が向き合わせられる。 光 磁気ディスク 1 1から帰還するレーザビーム 3 4はビームスプリッタ 3 7で反射 する。 レーザビーム 3 4はビームスプリッタ 3 7から 2ビームウォラストン 3 8 に導かれる。 2ビームウォラストン 3 8は、 相互に直交する偏光面でレーザビー ム 3 4を分解する。
2ビームウォラストン 3 8の背後には 2分割フォトディテクタ 4 1が配置され る。 2ビームウォラストン 3 8で分解されたレーザビーム 3 4は偏光面ごとに 2 分割フォトディテクタ 4 1で検出される。 こうして偏光面ごとにレーザビーム 3 4は電気信号に変換される。 2つの電気信号は加算アンプ 4 2で加算される。 レ 一ザビーム 3 4全体の強度は検出される。 加算アンプ 4 2の出力に基づき R OM 情報は解読される。 同様に 2つの電気信号は減算アンプ 4 3で減算される。 光磁 気ディスク 1 1から反射するレ一ザピ一ム 3 4および反射前のレーザビーム 3 4 の間で偏光面の回転は検出される。 減算アンプ 4 3の出力に基づき R AM情報は 解読される。
対物レンズ 3 6には磁気へッドスライダ 4 4が向き合わせられる。 磁気へッド スライダ 4 4には電磁変換素子が搭載される。 こういった電磁変換素子は、 対物 レンズ 3 6から光磁気ディスク 1 1に向かうレーザビーム 3 4の経路の延長線上 に配置されればよい。 レーザビーム 3 4が照射されると、 記録磁性膜 1 5の温度 は上昇する。 このとき、 記録磁性膜 1 5には電磁変換素子から書き込み磁界が作 用する。 温度の上昇に伴い記録磁性膜 1 5では書き込み磁界の向きに応じて比較 的に簡単に磁化は揃えられる。 こうして記録磁性膜 1 5に R AM情報は書き込ま れる。 ただし、 こういった磁気変調記録に代えていわゆる光変調記録が用いられ てもよい。
以上のような光磁気ディスク駆動装置 3 1では、 図 1 8に示されるように、 光 磁気ディスク 1 1上の位相ピット列からなる記録トラック 4 5に対して直交する 偏光面 4 6で光磁気ディスク 1 1にはレーザビ一ム 3 4が照射される。 言い換え れば、 レーザビーム 3 4はいわゆる垂直偏光で位相ピット 1 3や記録磁性膜 1 5 に照射される。 垂直偏光のレーザ.ビ ム 3.4は、 前述の R OM情報や R AM情報 の読み出しにあたってジッタの低減に大いに寄与することができる。
本発明者は、 前述と同様に、 6具体例に係る光磁気ディスク 1 1を用意した。 本発明者は個々の具体例ごとにジッ夕を測定した。 測定にあたって 2種類のレー ザビームは用意された。 一方のレーザビームは、 前述の光磁気ディスク駆動装置 3 1のように、 垂直偏光で光磁気ディスク 1 1に照射された。 他方のレーザビー ムは、 光磁気ディスク 1 1上の記録トラックに平行な偏光面で光磁気ディスク 1 1に照射された。 すなわち、 他方のレーザビームはいわゆる水平偏光で位相ピッ ト 1 3や記録磁性膜 1 5に照射された。 図 1 9に示されるように、 R AM情報の 読み出しにあたって、 基板 1 2の複屈折差の大きさに拘わらず、 水平偏光に比べ て垂直偏光でジッ夕は低減されることが確認された。 その一方で、 図 2 0に示さ れるように、 R OM情報の読み出しにあたって垂直偏光および水平偏光の間でジ ッタに大きな違いは生じなかった。

請求の範囲
1. 位相ピット列で形成される ROM領域を有する基板と、 基板の ROM領域に 成膜されて RAM信号を保持する光磁気記録膜とを有し、 ROM領域のうち少な くともユーザエリアでは、 測定用光ビームに直交する基準平面に対して、 測定用 光ビームの基板への照射位置を通過する位相ピッ卜列方向の接線を中心に基板が 20度傾いた姿勢で測定されるシングルパスの第 1複屈折値と、 基準平面に対し て、 基板面内で位相ピット列方向に直交する直線を中心に基板が 20度傾いた姿 勢で測定されるシングルパスの第 2複屈折値との差が 47 nm以下であることを 特徴とする光磁気記録媒体。
2. 請求の範囲第 1項に記載の光磁気記録媒体において、 前記第 1および第 2複 屈折値の差が 30 nm以下であることを特徴とする光磁気記録媒体。

4. 請求の範囲第 1項または第 2項に記載の光磁気記録媒体において、 前記位相 ピットの光学深さは、 情報の読み出しに用いられる読み出し用光ビームの波長を λとして 0. Ο-73 λ〜0. 1-0- 5 λ-の範囲であることを特徴とする光磁気記^ 媒体。
5. 請求の範囲第 1項または第 2項に記載の光磁気記録媒体において、 前記位相 ピットの変調度が 8%〜55%であることを特徴とする光磁気記録媒体。
6. 請求の範囲第 1項または第 2項に記載の光磁気記録媒体において、 前記位相 ピッ卜の変調度が 14%〜34%であることを特徴とする光磁気記録媒体。
7 . 請求の範囲第 1項〜第 6項のいずれかに記載の光磁気記録媒体において、 前 記基板はポリカーボネートまたはアモルファスポリオレフィンから構成されるこ とを特徴とする光磁気記録媒体。
8 . 射出成形に基づき基板を成形する工程と、 基板の成形後に 9 0 °C以上の温度 で基板をァニール処理する工程とを備えることを特徴とする光磁気記録媒体の製 造方法。
9 . 請求の範囲第 8項に記載の光磁気記録媒体の製造方法において、 基板の成形 後に 1 0 0 °C以上の温度で基板をァ二一ル処理することを特徴とする光磁気記録 媒体の製造方法。
1 0 . 請求の範囲第 8項または第 9項に記載の光磁気記録媒体の製造方法におい て、 基板の成形後に 1 3 0 °C以下の温度で基板をァニール処理することを特徴と する光磁気記録媒体の製造方法。
1 1 . 請求の範囲第 8項〜第 1 0項のいずれかに記載の磁気記録媒体の製造方法 において、 前記ァニール処理の実施後に前記基板に磁性膜を形成することを特徴 とする光磁気記録媒体の製造方法。
1 2 . 光ビームを出力する光源と、 記録媒体を支持するスピンドルと、 記録媒体 上の位相ピット列からなる記録トラックに対して直交する偏光面で記録媒体に向 けて光ビームを照射する光学系とを備えることを特徴とする光磁気記録装置。
1 3. 請求の範囲第 1 2項に記載の光磁気記録装置において、 前記記録媒体で反 射する光ビームおよび反射前の光ビームの間で偏光面の回転を検出する第 1光検 出器と、 前記記録媒体で反射する光ビームの強度を検出する第 2光検出器とをさ らに備えることを特徴とする光磁気記録装匱。
