Abstract

Hochtemperatur-Brennstoffzellen (SOFC) arbeiten regel­mäßig bei Temperaturen zwischen 800 und 1100 °C. Die bislang eingesetzten Materialien lassen eine Absenkung der Betriebstemperatur unterhalb von 800 nicht zu. Die Erfindung betrifft eine neuartige Brennstoffzelle mit einem Elektrolyten aus einem Silikatglas, die ins­besondere für die Betriebstemperaturen zwischen 500 und 700°C geeignet ist. Ferner betrifft die Erfindung ein neues modulares Konstruktionsprinzip zum Aufbau eines Brennstoffzellenstapels aus den erfindungsgemäßen sol­chen Brennstoffzellen, wobei entsprechende neue Module (Kathode-Anode-Einheiten) verwendet werden. Ein Modul umfaßt jeweils eine Anode, eine Kathode und einen da­zwischen angeordneten, gasdichten Interkonnektor aus Stahl und wird als ein Bauteil hergestellt. Die einzel­nen Module (Kathode-Anode-Einheiten) werden mittels einer Glaselektrolytschichten zusammengefügt. Dabei bildet die Kathodenseite einer ersten Kathode-Anode-­Einheit und die Anodenseite einer zweiten Kathode-­Anode-Einheit eine Brennstoffzelle. Die Brennstoffzelle, gebaut nach diesem Prinzip, ist deutlich preisgünstiger als herkömmlicher Hochtempera­tur-Brennstoffzellen, einfacher in der Herstellung und regelmäßig weniger empfindlich gegen das Thermozyklie­ren. Aufgrund der niedrigeren Temperaturen ist die Brennstoffzelle für eine interne Reformierung von bei­spielsweise Methan nicht vorgesehen.
