Definitions
- the present invention relates to a cargo container used in transporting freight, and more particularly to an openable-ceiling type cargo container, which is used mainly in shipping exported goods.
- a cargo container is a standardized container used in order to protect freight being transported from the surroundings, prevent the freight from being damaged, and facilitate the transportation of the freight.
- the cargo container as described above is widely used in the transportation of import and export freight.
- the cargo containers may be classified into closed-ceiling type containers and openable-ceiling type containers. All sides of the closed-ceiling type container except for its rear side are fixed and closed, and the rear side of the closed-ceiling type container can be opened and closed by a door disposed thereat.
- the openable-ceiling type container has a ceiling which can be opened and closed so as to load and unload large or heavy freight in and out of the container.
- a plurality of hooks 51 are disposed at regular intervals on upper ends of both inner side surfaces of the openable-ceiling type cargo container 50, and a plurality of suspension bars 52 are arranged at regular intervals on the top of the cargo container 50 while opposite ends of each suspension bar 52 are detachably fitted in the hooks 51.
- a cover 53 is placed on the suspension bars 52, and edges of the cover 53 are fastened by ropes 54.
- the ropes 54 should be loosened, the cover 53 should be taken off, and all the suspension bars 52 should be separated one by one, before the freight is loaded or unloaded. Therefore, it is very inconvenient to load or unload large or heavy freight into or out of the conventional container.
- the separated suspension bars should be kept at one side in the container while the freight is loaded or unloaded, with the result that they are easily broken or lost. Also, since it is very inconvenient to assemble or disassemble the suspension bars 52, the cover 53, and the ropes 54 according to the sequence described above in order to load or unload freight, an empty cargo container carrying no freight is usually driven while the suspension bars 52, the cover 53, and the ropes 54 are not assembled but are neglected in the cargo container. Therefore, those elements are further apt to be lost or broken.
- an object of the present invention is to provide an openable-ceiling type cargo container, in which a ceiling of the container can be automatically opened and closed in a simple sliding manner, so as to eliminate inconvenience caused when the ceiling is manually opened or closed, and to reduce time for opening or closing the ceiling.
- an openable-ceiling type cargo container comprising: a ceiling cover forming the ceiling disposed on the container; a pair of rails disposed on upper ends of both inner side surfaces of the cargo container; plural pairs of casters arranged along the rails, each of the casters having a connector and a moving portion, the moving portion enabling the caster to easily slide along the rail, each pair of the casters being opposed to each other; and a plurality of slide bars supporting the ceiling cover, each of the slide bars having opposite ends assembled with connectors of the casters placed in opposition to each other, so that the slide bars and the casters can slide together along the rails so as to open or close the ceiling cover.

- FIG. 5 is a partial perspective view showing a telescopic driving system employed in an openable-ceiling type cargo container according to the present invention
- FIG. 6 is a schematic side view showing the operation of the telescopic driving system shown in FIG. 5;
- FIG. 7 is an end view showing another embodiment of a slide bar employed in an openable-ceiling type cargo container according to the present invention.
- FIG. 8 is a plan view showing another embodiment of internal retainers employed in an openable-ceiling type cargo container according to the present invention.
- FIG. 9 is a partly exploded perspective view of a conventional cargo container.
- FIG. 1 is a partly exploded perspective view of an openable-ceiling type cargo container according to the present invention.
- an openable-ceiling type cargo container 1 has a long rectangular shape, a space defined by a bottom and side walls fixed to each other, in which freight is loaded, and a door disposed at a rear surface of the cargo container 1, through which the freight can be loaded and unloaded.
- the cargo container 1 has a ceiling, which includes a ceiling cover 2 made of tarpaulin and a device for opening and closing the ceiling cover 2.
- the apparatus for opening and closing the ceiling according to the present invention includes rails 3, a plurality of casters 4, and a plurality of slide bars 6. The rails 3 are disposed on upper ends of both inner side surfaces of the cargo container.
- the casters 4 are arranged along the rails 3, and each of the casters 4 has a connector 5.
- Each of the slide bars 6 has opposite ends assembled with the connectors 5 of each caster 4, so that the slide bars 6 and the casters 4 can slide along the rails 3 so as to open or close the ceiling cover 2.
- a plurality of interval retainers 7, similar to those in vertical window blinds, are disposed on the connectors 5 of the casters 4 as shown in FIG. 2 A, so as to enable the slide bars 6 and the casters 4 to support the ceiling cover 2 with being spaced at regular intervals when the slide bars 6 and the casters 4 move to close the ceiling of the cargo container.
- the ceiling of the cargo container can be easily opened by releasing tie ropes tying the ceiling cover 2, separating edges of the ceiling cover 2 from the cargo container 1 , and then sliding the slide bars 6.
- one of two strands of pulling ropes 8 can be pulled, similarly to those in a manual vertical window blind, so as to make the slide bars 6 slide, thereby opening or closing the ceiling cover 2. Otherwise, a motor may be connected with the pulling ropes 8, so that the ceiling can be automatically opened and closed. In this case, since both ends of the slide bars 6 are assembled through the connectors 5 with the casters 4, the slide bars 6 can be smoothly slid by the casters 4 so as to open or close the ceiling
- the rail 3 along which the casters 4 slide may have a semi-circular sectional shape as shown in FIGs. 2A and 2B, or may have a spring 5-2 disposed between a connector 5-1 connected with the caster 4 and one end or both ends of the slide bar 6 as shown in FIG. 3, so as to offset the deflection.
- the trouble can be easily repaired by separating only the deformed slide bars 6 from the connectors 5 of the casters 4 and replacing them with new slide bars 6.
- rails 3-1 separated from the container body may be assembled with the container body as shown in FIG. 3, so that repair and maintenance can be easily carried out even when the rail 3-1 or the container body is damaged.
- the slide bars 5 and the connectors 5 are connected by means of bolts and nuts, so that, if necessary, the slide bars can be easily separated and that in the case where both sidewalls of the container 1 are distorted due to heavy loading of the freight in the container 1 , the slide bars 6 can absorb the deflection while varying the length thereof as shown in FIG. 7. Referring to FIG.
- each of slide bars 6 has two portions divided by a center portion of the slide bar, wherein a fixing guide rod 6-1 is formed at one portion and a guide hole 6-2, in which the fixing guide rod 6-1 is inserted in the state in which a spring 6-3 is inserted, is formed at the other portion. Therefore, the slide bars 6 can be pushed in the longitudinal direction by the proper elastic force of the springs 6-3 while supporting the ceiling cover 2 and allowing the lengths of the slide bars 6 to vary.
- the openable-ceiling type cargo container of the present invention comprises a retainer 7 for maintaining a space between the slide bars 6 at constant intervals, upon unfolding the retainer for covering the ceiling cover 2.
- the retainer 7 includes two rigid bodies 7-1 and 7-2 and a hinge 7-3 coupling the two rigid bodies, whereby when folding the ceiling, the ceiling cover forming the ceiling is folded in the upper side while the two rigid bodies 7-1 and 7-2 are folded through the hinge.
- an auxiliary supporting member 7-4 for supporting the ceiling cover can be connected to a center portion between retainers opposed each other at both rails. The ceiling cover is folded in the upper side as described above, so that, upon raining, it prevents rainwater from staying in the folded ceiling cover.
- the slide bars 6 when the slide bars 6 have slid to the front of the container to thereby open the ceiling, the slide bars 6 can be received in a storage section 9 formed inside of the container body at the front side of the container body. Therefore, not only can large freight be easily loaded or unloaded, but the slide bars 6 can also be prevented from being damaged or broken while large freight is loaded or unloaded.
- the slide bars 6, sliding to open and close the ceiling as described above may be connected with a telescopic driving system 10 as shown in FIGs. 5 and 6.
- a telescopic bar 14 of the telescopic driving system 10 which is similar to an antenna of an automobile, is connected to the connectors 5, so that the telescopic driving system 10 can make the slide bars 6 automatically slide by telescoping the telescopic bar 14.
- a wheel 12 is rotated by an electromotive motor 11, and a rack gear 13 is wound around the wheel 12. Therefore, by winding or unwinding the rack gear 13, the telescopic bar 14 can be extended or telescoped like an antenna, so as to make the slide bars 6 slide, thereby opening or closing the ceiling of the container.
- the telescopic bar 14 may be driven by hydraulic pressure, so as to make the slide bars 6 slide.
- the openable-ceiling type container which is mainly used in shipping exported goods, has a ceiling of a slide-type construction, which can be manually or automatically opened and closed, so as to eliminate inconvenience caused when the ceiling is manually opened or closed, and to reduce time for opening or closing the ceiling. Further, even in a state where the ceiling of the container is opened, slide bars can be stored in one side of the container, so that the slide bars are prevented from being broken or lost. Also, when the sidewalls of the container are distorted due to a load, the slide bars are varied with their lengths thus to receive the deflection, and upon opening the ceiling cover, the cover is folded in the upper side thus to prevent rainwater from staying in the folded cover.
