Definitions
- the present invention relates to a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery.
- non-aqueous electrolyte secondary batteries In general, among batteries that are widely used as power sources for these electronic devices, non-aqueous electrolyte secondary batteries are receiving attention.
- This non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery uses a lithium composite oxide as the positive electrode active material and a lithium-based metal or its alloy as the negative electrode active material, or a carbonaceous material capable of doping and undoping lithium ion. Since it is a battery using, it is small and light, has a high cell voltage, and can obtain a high energy density, and is expected to be used as an excellent power source.
- the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery since the nonaqueous electrolyte has low ion conductivity, the area of the positive electrode and the negative electrode must be larger than that of the aqueous secondary battery in order to extract a large current. Need to be taken.
- the electrode group for example, a thin sheet-like positive electrode and negative electrode wound in a spiral shape (coil shape) via a separator is used.
- Such thin sheet-shaped positive and negative electrodes are generally manufactured by forming a layer of a positive electrode active material or a mixture containing a negative electrode active material on a metal foil as a conductive substrate. Have been.
- the above-mentioned electrode group is housed in a container for holding the electrolyte, electrical insulation, shape retention, etc.
- the non-aqueous electrolyte is injected into the container.
- the positive electrode, the negative electrode, and the separator constituting the electrode group are impregnated with a non-aqueous electrolyte.
- Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open Publication No. 7-122622 discloses a technique in which a metal needle is pierced into an electrode, or an electrode mixture or an electrode material slurry is added in advance. By removing the electrode later, holes are formed in the entire electrode material formed on the current collector, and the specific surface area of the electrode is increased to 4 m 2 / g or more, thereby improving the electrode shape. It discloses that the diffusion capacity is increased and the dependence of the discharge capacity on the electrode thickness is eliminated.
- An object of the present invention is to provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery having an improved charge / discharge cycle life.
- a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery according to the present invention is a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery including a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and a nonaqueous electrolyte,
- At least one of the positive electrode and the negative electrode is formed on a conductive substrate and on at least one surface of the conductive substrate, and has a surface area of 0.0 cm 2 per cm 2 .
- an active material containing layer having a thickness of 1 m 2 to 0.2 m 2 .
- FIG. 1 is a partial cross-sectional view showing one embodiment of a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery according to the present invention.
- FIG. 2 is a perspective view schematically showing a positive electrode of the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery of Example 9.
- a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery is a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery including a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and a nonaqueous electrolyte, wherein at least one of the positive electrode and the negative electrode is electrically conductive. formed in least for the one surface also of the conductive substrate and gender substrate, and a surface area of 1 cm 2 per Ri is 0. 0 1 m 2 ⁇ 0 . active material containing organic layer is 2 m 2 This is the feature.
- the present inventors have conducted intensive studies and found that in order to improve the discharge characteristics and the cycle characteristics, the surface of the active material-containing layer of the electrode was improved. It has been found that the binding between the active material particles is important. In particular, it was found that in the case of high-capacity batteries, the voids were small, so that the binding state of the active material particles on the surface of the active material-containing layer was greatly affected. In order to achieve a higher capacity, it is necessary to increase the electrode density. As the electrode density increases, the amount of voids in the electrode decreases. In addition, it is desirable not only to increase the electrode density but also to increase the active material filling amount. Therefore, it is necessary to reduce the injection amount of the liquid nonaqueous electrolyte. In other words, if the capacity is increased, the non-aqueous electrolyte regulated to the minimum necessary amount must be kept uniformly in the electrode with poor impregnation, so that the charge-discharge cycle characteristics are sufficient. Can not be obtained.
- the surface area per 1 cm 2 used in the present invention can accurately evaluate the state of the surface of the active material-containing layer, that is, the surface in contact with the nonaqueous electrolyte. That is, when the surface area per cm 2 of the electrode is less than 0.01 m 2 , the surface of the electrode is high in smoothness and the binding between the active material particles by the binder becomes strong. The impregnation of the liquid non-aqueous electrolyte is poor, and the discharge capacity or the charge / discharge cycle life is shortened.
- an electrode having a surface area of more than 0.2 m2 per 1 cm2 of the electrode has a large pore size on the electrode surface and poor binding property between active material particles, so that the current collecting performance is low.
- the charge / discharge cycle life is shortened. Also, the electrode density may decrease.
- the surface area per lcm 2 of the electrode within the range of 0.01 m 2 to 0.2 m 2, many fine pores can be present on the surface of the active material containing layer. Even when the electrode density is high and the void volume is small, the liquid nonaqueous electrolyte contains an active material. It is possible to quickly impregnate the stratified layer. As a result, it is possible to realize a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery having improved discharge capacity and charge / discharge cycle life.
- the specific surface area (m 2 Z g) of the electrode is The average of the microstructure on the surface and inside is evaluated.
- the specific surface area (m 2 / g) is a value that changes depending on the density or weight of the electrode without changing the surface state of the active material-containing layer. Therefore, even if the specific surface area (m 2 / g ) is specified, an active material-containing layer in which fine pores are unevenly distributed on the surface cannot be obtained.
- the positive electrode 0 1 cm 2 per Ri of the surface area of the positive electrode active material-containing layer. 0 4 m 2 ⁇ 0. 1 2 This in the range of m 2 and Gayo Ri preferred arbitrariness.
- the negative electrode the negative electrode active surface area of lcm 2 per Ri of material-containing layer 0. 0 2 m 2 ⁇ 0 . 1 8 m 2 arbitrariness preferred Ri this Togayo to range.

- a sufficient effect can be obtained by applying at least to the positive electrode. Can be done.
