- OLEDs Organic light-emitting diodes
- OLEDs are unstable in air, which is why they have to be regularly protected from oxygen and air in order to make them last as long as possible.
- Particularly dangerous for OLEDs and their electrodes, e.g. a calcium cathode is water vapor, which is a problem in some OLED applications. This is usually done using e.g. OLED on a glass substrate covered with a glass cap or glass plate and then covered with e.g. glued to the glass substrate.
- Such protective devices or encapsulations using glass caps of OLEDs are e.g. known from DE 19943149.3 and DE 19943148.5.

- the parts to be joined are preferably positioned to one another in an inert, that is to say in particular in a water or oxygen-poor or oxygen-free atmosphere, and glued together, e.g. with an organic glue.
- a sealing 5 is carried out as follows: a material selected for sealing is applied to the glass substrate by lamination over a large area, for example in a thickness of 2 mm, in such a way that the glass cap 3 is completely covered. Because of its better processability, the material is, for example, a commercially available low-solvent butyl rubber which is dissolved in petroleum ether with a medium boiling range and has a density of 1.4 g / ml. The lamination must be done in such a way that electrical contacting is possible. It can then be dried on a hotplate, for example at 80 ° C for 30 minutes.

- the lifetime is understood to mean the time in which the initial brightness of the diode drops to half.
- the sealing layer 5 envelops the entire OLED, that is to say substrate 1 and the layer structure 2 located thereon, with or without encapsulation 3, uniformly.
- the sealing layer 5 can also only partially cover, for example by brushing or spraying, the point 4 where the encapsulation 3 and the substrate 1 meet.

Abstract
Description
Beschreibung
