Definitions
- the present invention relates generally to a self-closing door assembly.
- it relates to a self-closing door structure for the door of a refrigerator.
- the doors of refrigeration devices are equipped with a circumferential magnetic seal, which exerts a magnetic attraction on a frame of the refrigeration device opposite the door.
- This attractive force essentially causes the magnetic seal to nestle close to the frame along its entire length when the door is closed.
- the magnetic force is sufficient to automatically close an incompletely closed door if the open position of the door is not more than a few millimeters.
- Hinges of this type have two arms which are provided for fastening to the frame or the door of the refrigerator and can be pivoted relative to one another between two stop positions, one of which corresponds to the closed position of the door and the other to an open position.
- a spring coupled to the pivoting movement of the arms has a state of maximum tension in a position lying between the two stop positions and, depending on the position in which they are located, acts on the two arms in the direction of one of the two stop positions.
- hinges are heavy, bulky and expensive. In addition, they only allow two stable positions of the door, the closed and the open stop position.
- the object of the present invention is to create a self-closing door structure which does not require any complex hinges and / or which permits a continuous range of stable open positions of the door.
- the object is achieved by a door structure with the features of claim 1. Since the spring-loaded pivotable arm is not firmly connected to the door, but only interacts with it via a driver which can be engaged and disengaged at an engagement point of the door, the effect of the spring-loaded arm is limited to those positions of the door where there is an engagement. In all open positions in which there is no intervention, the door can remain stable.
- the driver is preferably a cutout on the arm which is open in the longitudinal direction of the arm, and the point of engagement is a projection on the door. It would also be conceivable to design the driver as a projection and the point of engagement as a cutout, but the former solution can be implemented with less effort.
- the door and the arm are preferably pivotable about different axes. This makes it possible for the engagement between the driver and the engagement point to be lost when the door is opened simply by the pivoting movement of the door and the arm, without this requiring an additional controlled movement of the arm or the door with a further degree of freedom.
- the cutout of the arm is preferably delimited by two tongues, one of which is located in the direction of the first stop position corresponding to the closed state of the door and the other in the direction of the second stop position, the tongue located in the direction of the second stop position being the shorter of the two is.
- the door structure is also expediently equipped with a latch for releasably locking the arm in the second position.
- This latch is important to prevent the arm from moving to the first stop position other than by interacting with the protrusion. If it were possible, with the door wide open, without the projection engaging in the cutout, the arm in the to move the first stop position, the arm would in its first stop position prevent the door from being closed completely. This is avoided by the latch.
- the bolt can expediently be actuated via an actuating element which is coupled to the position of the door. More specifically, the latch blocks the pivoting movement of the arm as long as the door is open and only releases the arm shortly before the projection begins to engage in the cutout of the arm.
- This actuating element is preferably closer to the pivot axis of the door than the point of engagement. Thus, when the door closes, the actuating element comes into contact with it before the projection reaches the cutout and is actuated in good time by the contact with the door.
- FIG. 1 is a partial perspective view of a housing corner of a refrigerator with a door structure according to the present invention
- FIG. 2 and 3 are perspective views of a swivel arm of the door structure from FIG. 1;
- Fig. 4 is a schematic horizontal section through the hinge housing
- FIG. 5 shows a vertical section through the joint housing along the lines V-V in FIG. 4;
- FIG. 6 shows a horizontal section similar to FIG. 4 with the door closed
- Fig. 7 is a vertical section analogous to Fig. 5 with the door closed.
- Fig. 1 shows a perspective view of a lower front corner of a refrigerator housing, which is equipped with a hinge for hanging a door. For the sake of clarity, the door itself is not shown in FIG. 1.
- An articulated housing 1 is mounted on a lower corner of the frame 3 of the refrigeration device and hides a tab screwed or riveted to the frame 3, which in turn carries an articulated pin 2 projecting upward from the articulated housing 1.
- the pivot pin 2 defines the pivot axis of the door, shown as a dash-dot line A.
- An arm 4 is pivotally mounted in the joint housing 1 between an inner and an outer stop position.
- the arm 4 is shown in the outer stop position with solid lines.
- a free end of the arm 4 with a cutout 5 formed therein projects outwards through a slot 6 on the front of the joint housing 1.
- the arm 4 is completely immersed in the joint housing 1, only part of the free end with the cutout 5, shown in broken lines in the figure, remains visible through a slot 7 on the top of the joint housing 1.
- a run-up inclined surface 8 of a vertically displaceable bolt protrudes through an opening of the joint housing 1.
- Figures 2 and 3 show the arm 4 in two different perspective views, in Fig. 2 in the perspective of Fig. 1 and in Fig. 3 seen from the opposite direction, from the inside of the refrigerator.
- the arm 4 has two sections of different thicknesses, on the one hand a section 10 forming the free end and a base section 11.
- the free section 10 is designed, like the mouth of a wrench, as a solid plate of a few millimeters thick. It comprises two tongues 20, 21 arranged on both sides of the cutout 5, the tongue 21 facing away from the frame 3 being shorter than the tongue 20 facing the frame 3.
- the base section 11 has a height which corresponds to the height of the interior of the joint housing 1, and carries on its top and bottom in each case a circular, flat pin 12, each in a (not shown) recess in the upper and lower wall of the joint housing 1 engages and thus defines a pivot axis B of the arm 4.
- the base section 11 is hollow and open on its rear side facing the frame 3.
- the inner cavity 13 of the base portion 11 is provided to receive a tension spring, the function of which will be explained.
- a locking projection 14 is formed on an outer side of the base section 11 and cooperates with the bolt carrying the ramp 8 in a manner to be explained.
- Fig. 4 shows a horizontal section through the hinge housing 1 and its surroundings, the door 15, which is actually outside the cutting plane, shown here being open to show the functioning of the door structure.
- a downward projection 19 Arranged on the lower narrow side of the door 15 is a downward projection 19, which is shown in the figure in its open position shown in the position corresponding to the door 15 as a solid black diamond.
- the projection moves on a circular path D when the door is closed.
- Intermediate positions of the projection during the closing movement and the position of the projection when the door is closed are shown as outlines 19 ', 19 "and 19"'.
- the arm 4 is in its outer stop position, which is also shown in FIG. 1.
- a tension spring 16 which is attached at one end to the arm 4 and with another end to the joint housing 1, extends through the cavity 13 of the arm 4.
- the center line C of the tension spring 16 lies in the position of the arm 4 shown in FIG. 4 at a short distance to the left of the pivot axis B (standing perpendicular to the plane of the figure) B.
- the tension spring 16 thus presses the arm 4 with a slight force against the front wall 17 of the housing 1 and thus stabilizes the outer stop position of the arm 4.
- the bolt 9 carrying the ramp 8 contacts a side surface of the locking projection 14 and thus blocks the arm 4 in its outer stop position.
- the run-up slope 8 of the bolt 9 projects beyond the lower narrow side 18 of the door 15.
- the run-up slope 8 comes into contact with the narrow side 18, so that the bolt 9 is displaced downward and thereby releases the locking projection 14.
- the protrusion reaches the position labeled 19 'in FIG. 4 in front of the tip of the shorter tongue 21.
- the protrusion passes the tongue 21 without hitting it and strikes the position indicated by 19 " the longer tongue 20.
- the arm 4 follows the closing movement, driven by the projection 19 touching the tongue.
- the spring 16 initially counteracts the movement with a small force. A dead center of the spring 16 is reached when the center line C of the spring 16 intersects the axis B.
- the spring 16 begins to act on the arm 4 in the direction of its inner stop position. Since the distance of the cutout 5 or the projection 19 engaging therein from the axis B is smaller than from the axis A, and the axis B lies within the circular path C, the projection 19 penetrates ever deeper into the cutout 5 during the closing movement of the door so that when the dead center is overcome, the shorter tongue 21 abuts the projection 19 and thus drives the closing movement of the door 15 until the door is completely closed.
- FIG. 7 is a section along the line VIII-VIII from FIG. 6.
- the center line C of the spring 16 here runs almost parallel to the front of the frame 3 between this and the axis B of the arm 4.
- the locking projection 14 of the arm 4 is located above the bar 9 which is displaced downwards.
- FIG. 7 shows the displacement of the bar 9 Contact with the lower narrow side 18 of the door 15.
- the length of the shorter tongue 21 is dimensioned such that when the door of the projection 19 opens, the tongue 21 can only pass when the dead center of the spring 16 has been surmounted and the arm 4 swings securely into its outer stop position under the force of the spring 16 , When the outer stop position is reached, the Locking projection 14 an upward movement of the bolt 9 free, by which the bolt 9 blocks the arm 4 in its outer stop position until it is displaced when the door 15 is closed again.
