- wood Due to its fiber structure, wood has different mechanical properties in different directions. In order to obtain plate-shaped wooden structural elements with strength properties that are largely independent of the direction of loading, in spite of this anisotopy, various wood layers with intersecting fiber orientations are glued into plywood panels that have high strength and are versatile in use. Due to the comparatively low specific mass of the wood usually used for this purpose, multilayer glued wooden panels made from it have a low weight despite the achievable strength, so that the use of such panel-shaped wooden components for a variety of purposes is also recommended with regard to environmental compatibility and the circumstances that wood is a natural, renewable material. The use of plate-shaped wooden building elements could be increased and expanded to other areas of application if the weight of the wooden construction elements could be reduced further without having to accept corresponding losses in strength.
- the invention is therefore based on the object of designing a plate-shaped wooden component of the type described at the beginning with simple structural means such that a high component strength can be ensured with a comparatively low weight.
