- the present invention consists of two adjacent storage modules A, D comprising a plurality of structured platforms 14 fixed to the vertical members of rigid modular structural frames, stacked vertically and joined at the corners 10 by permanent or dismountable connection means such as end insertion, bolting, riveting, or welding. Said structured platforms are attached by means that allow vertical adjustment of bay height to allow for different sizes of parked vehicles or stored boxes.
- the carrying means comprise a rectangular frame C, with its main plane vertically oriented, which slides vertically over the vertical structural members 15, which constitute the vertical parts of said modular structural frames.
- the vertical movement of said frame C is powered by electric motors 8 placed at the sliding attachement points, said movement being preferrably achieved by means of a rack-and-pinion assembly.
- the lifting and lowering of frame C can be done by screw assemblies or cables, powered by motor 8' installed atop vertical structural members 15.
- said carrying means comprise the carrying lift B, haveng a cage-like structure fitted with an upper and a lower carrying platforms, both provided with powered roller conveyors 6, said lift B being slidingly attached to the horizontal beams of said frame C.and also powered by electric motors 8 for horizontal displacement along said frame.All motions vertical and horizontal are automatically directed from a control center 9 which can be located either inside the storage module or the loading module, or even remotely located.
- the lift B has an upper and a lower load carrying platforms, the lower one being normally used to move a vehicle up from ground level to a parking bay or back from the bay down to ground, and the upper one being used for temporary holding of a vehicle. This would be the case, for instance, when two vehicles are parked in the same bay, and the second one, i.e., the farthest from the front has to be delivered to a customer.
- the conveying means on the lift and on the structured platforms can be roller conveyors with independently powered rollers allowing for load/vehicle motion in both directions, or conveyors fitted with magnetic plates to reduce the friction by means of magnetic repulsion.
- conveyors at right angles can be provided on the structured platforms, as well as conveyors with multidirectional moving spheric rollers, either free or powered, as shown in Fig. 5. Furthermore, misalignments of vehicles or loads can be corrected by individually controlling the right and left conveyors on the structured platforms or carrying platforms, such control being done automatically by computer means.
- the hftting cage B' can also have the same width of frame C; in this case, the attachment between B and C would be permanent. In this case, the lifting assembly moves only in a vertical direction. This would also be the case with systems comprising only one storage module in which the bays will be stacked vertically, in which case the frames B and C will be of the same width and permanently attached.
- the lateral, front and back openings of the storage modules as well as of the lift B can be closed, either partially or wholy, by panels 3 bearing advertisements or information or having a protecting function.
- Supplementary electric power can be provided by solar cells installed on the roof 5 of the storage modules.
- a generator 9 can be provided for emergency power.
- the parking bays can be provided in existing steel or reinforced concrete buildings, in the latter case the frame C will be slidingly attached to steel rails secured to the front of said buildings.
- An alternative embodiment is shown in figure 3, in which the storage modules are separated by a distance equal to the length of the loading lift B, which runs vertically between both modules.
- the storage structure does not rest upon the ground, being supported by and appended to an existing building, either on the outside or the inside of said building. This will allow the use of the proposed parking system in narrow passageways between buildings which would continue to be available for circulation of pedestrians or vehicles at ground level..
- a parking structure built according to this invention can be fitted with means for horizontal translation over the ground, allowing relocation of the structure without disassembling.
