Definitions

  • the invention relates to an extension feed beam for a rock drill, comprising a lower beam and an upper beam which are superimposed and connected to each other slidably by means of slide rails and slide means, said rock drill being mounted on the upper beam so as to be displaceable in its longitudinal direction.
  • extension beams in which the feed beam consists of two portions that are slidable with respect to each other in the longitudinal direction.
  • the feed beam is thus adjusted so as to be in its most retracted position, and the drilling is performed with short drill rods.
  • the feed beam is in its most extended position at the beginning of the drilling, and a long drill rod is used.
  • extension feed beams As the drilling progresses and the drill rod penetrates into the rock, the feed beam is retracted suitably to allow the drill to advance to the front end of the feed beam, and to allow the entire drilling length of the drill rod to be utilized.
  • the problem with the known extension feed beams is that they are rather heavy, as they are usually made from steel beams.
  • extension feed beams must be rather high to ensure the required rigidity; this makes the extension feed beams difficult to use in confined spaces.
  • Another problem with the known solutions is that it is necessary to provide two separate slide rails between the different portions of the feed beam to allow the beam to be displaced: the upper portion of the beam is slidably connected to the lower beam at its front end by separate slide shoes, and correspondingly, the lower portion of the beam is slidably connected at its rear end to the slide rails of the upper beam.
  • Such a structure is complicated and expensive to manufacture, and it is also easily damaged.
  • Yet another drawback is that in the known solutions it is possible to use only relatively short slide means, as a result of which the loads and thus also the wear increase considerably.
  • the object of the present invention is to provide an extension feed beam by which the above- mentioned drawbacks can be avoided both in its structure and in its use.
  • the extension feed beam according to the invention is characterized in that the slide rails between the lower beam and the upper beam are provided only on the upper beam, on both sides thereof, that the slide means comprise slide frames, which are secured to the front and the rear end of the lower beam on both sides thereof, which are located at the slide rails, and which are provided with slides bearing against the slide rails, and that the slides frames at the front end of the lower beam are longer than the distance that the upper beam travels along the lower beam.
  • the portions of the extension feed beam are made from aluminium by extrusion so that the lower edge of the upper portion of the feed beam is provided with slide rails to allow the lower portion of the feed beam to be connected to it.
  • the lower portion of the feed beam is very low in cross-section, and slides of a suitable material such as urethane are secured to its rear end by means of separate slide frames, the slides being in contact with the slide surfaces of the upper portion of the beam.
  • This structure is disclosed as such in earlier Finnish Patent Application No. 933 866.
  • both sides of the front end of the lower portion of the feed beam are provided with a slide profile which is in one piece, and which is attached to the lower portion of the beam by bolts. The lower portion of the beam and the slide profiles attached to it thus render the front portion of the lower beam sufficiently rigid without unnecessarily increasing the height of the feed beam.
  • extension feed beam accord- ing to the invention is that its total height is relatively small, and similar standard portions such as a slide profile and slides can be used for all move ⁇ ments.
  • slides allow the front end of the upper beam to be supported over its whole travel length, if desired, or merely in the middle of the lower beam, depending on the situation. Particu ⁇ larly when slides are provided over the whole travel length, the connection between the different beam portions and thus the entire extension beam is rendered as rigid as possible, and the drill rod is supported as well as possible.
  • Figure 1 is a schematic view of the cross- section of the feed beam according to the invention
  • Figure 2 is a schematic view of the feed beam according to the invention in its most extended position.
  • Figure 1 is a cross-section of the feed beam according to the invention, taken along line A-A of Figure 2.
  • the feed beam comprises a lower beam 1 and an upper beam 2.
  • the drill carriage 3 is arranged to slide along the upper beam 2 on the surfaces 5 of slide rails 2a formed on it, by means of slide frames 6 and slides 7 attached to the slide frames 6.
  • the structure and operation of the slides and slide frames are described in detail in the Applicant's previous Finnish Patent Application No. 933 866.
  • the slide frames 6 are secured to the carriage 3 by bolts 8 in such a way that the slides 7 are also locked in place with respect to the carriage 3 in the longitudinal direction of the feed beam.
  • the upper beam 2 is arranged to slide along the lower beam 1 on the slide surfaces 15 of slide rails 2b located at the lower edge of the upper beam, by means of similar slide frames 16 and slides 17.
  • the slide frames 16 of the lower beam 1 are correspondingly attached to the lower beam 1 by bolts 18.
  • the lower beam comprises two vertical side portions, a bottom portion between them, and horizontal edge flanges la at the upper edge of the side portions.
  • the edge flanges la are provided with a step-shaped projection comprising a shoulder lb facing the middle of the lower beam 1.
  • the slide frame 16 comprises a corresponding shoulder 16a.
  • the lower portion of the lower beam 1 is provided with triangular profiles lc, by means of which the lower beam 1 can be mounted at the end of a boom known per se (not shown) either stationarily or by providing the profiles with slide surfaces corres- ponding to slide surfaces 5 and 15 to allow the lower beam to be displaceable in the longitudinal direction on a cradle known per se (not shown) .
  • the actual lower beam 1 is very low in the vertical direction as compared with the upper beam 2, which makes the entire feed beam considerably lower than corresponding previous constructions.
  • Figure 2 is a side view of the extension feed beam according to the invention in its most extended position.
  • the upper beam 2 is located above the lower beam 1, and it is arranged to slide along the lower beam 1 by means of slide frames 16 provided at the rear end of the lower beam 1.
  • the front end of the lower beam 1 is provided with another slide frame 16', which is a one-piece profile whose total length exceeds the travel length of the upper beam, and which is attached to the lower beam 1 by means of bolts 18' so as to form a rigid assembly with it.
  • the slide frames 16' at the front end of the lower beam 1 thus extend a small distance from the rearmost position of the front end of the upper beam 2 towards the rear end of the lower beam 1.
  • the slide frame 16' at the front end of the lower beam 1 can be provided with a slide merely at the rear end of the frame 16', or it may comprise a plurality of successive slides so that slides are provided substantially over the entire length of the frame 16', whereby they support the upper beam 2 along its whole travel length.
  • the drill can be displaced along the upper beam and the lower and upper beams can be displaced with respect to each other by displacing means which are known per se and therefore not described more closely herein.
  • the figure also shows the travelling centralizer 9 and the front centralizer 10 of the drill rod; these centralizers may be of any known model suitable for the purpose. Since the central ⁇ izers are not directly relevant to the actual invention, they will not be described in greater detail herein.
  • the cross-sections of the upper and lower beams may vary, and the slide surfaces on the upper beam and those provided on the lower beam to allow it to be connected to a cradle may be realized differently.
  • the slide frames of the drill carriage and, correspondingly, the slide frames of the lower beam have preferably identical cross-sections; this enables the use of the same slide frame profile for all slide structures, which thus reduces the number of different spare parts required for the entire apparatus.
  • all slides are preferably of the same shape, which also reduces the number of spare parts required.
  • the slide of the elongated slide frame 16' at the front end of the lower beam 1 may be in one piece and as long as the slide frame 16', or it may consist of short slides mounted successively, in which case the same slides may be used for all slide frames.
