Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a mobile filter unit for extracting by suction from a working site air con- j 5 taminated iwith gaseous and/or particulate contaminants and separating the contaminants, which consist for instance in welding fumes or glue solvents, said filter unit comprising an apparatus housing having an inlet opening to which a suction hose can be connected, a fan 10 and a filter connected to the inlet opening.
  • the invention is the result of developments directed to welding operations and to the processing of welding fumes, and will be described in the following with
  • filters are adapted for extracting or separating the gaseous and/or particulate contaminants concerned.
  • the apparatus 35 connected, a filter, a fan, and a suction line connected between the filter and the inlet opening.
  • SUBSTITUTESHEET housing is conveniently provided with wheels or casters which enable the filter unit to be moved easily to the area of a temporary working site.
  • Such mobile filter units are constructed so that the actual apparatus housing can be placed at a short distance from the actual welding site.
  • the suction hose is flexible or is pivotally connected to the inlet of the apparatus hous ⁇ ing, so that the hose can be bent or swung and its free end placed above the welding location or welding site.
  • the outer end of the suction hose is normally provided with a hood and it is necessary to place the hood above the welding site and close thereto in order for the system to be effected. This means, however, that the welder's view of the welding site and the surrounding free working space is obstructed by the hood and/or by the outer extremity of the suction hose.
  • Temporary working sites may be of the kind at which two connected elements of a large construction shall be welded together, although such sites are often of the kind in which the welder requires the use of a welding table on which the welding process or parts thereof can be carried out comfortably.
  • a welding table is required at a temporary working site, it is, of course, necessary to transport the table to said site, which constitutes an additional working operation.
  • the object of the present invention is to reduce or eliminate the aforesaid drawbacks.
  • the object of the invention is to provide a mobile filter unit of the aforesaid kind a construction in which the apparatus housing has an integrated working table from which air contaminants can be effectively extracted by suction without requiring the use of a suction hose.
  • a mobile filter unit for extracting by suction from a working site 91, 93 air which is contaminated with gaseous and/or particulate contaminants and separating the contaminants, which consist for instance in welding fumes or glue solvents, comprising an apparatus housing having an inlet opening to which a suction hose can be connected, a fan, and a filter in the vicinity of said inlet opening, character ⁇ ized in that the upper part of the apparatus housing has space for a working table and a suction gap around the table perimeter, and means for connecting either the suction line or, when the table is in position and exposed for use, the suction gap to the filter.
  • the invention is defined in the independent Claim, and embodiments of the filter unit are defined in the depen ⁇ dent Claims.
  • the invention can also be used beneficially in connection with objects from which dust or the like shall be removed, while retaining the aforesaid advantages.
  • Figures IA and IB illustrate schematically and partially in section a first exemplifying embodiment of an inventive mobile unit, and show respectiv ⁇ ely the hood in a downwardly lowered position and a retracted position and with a worktable mounted in position; and Figure 2 illustrates schematically a second exemplify- ing embodiment of the inventive unit.
  • Figure 1 illustrates a mobile filter unit which is in- tended to remove by suction air contaminants, such as flue gas from a schematically illustrated working site 91, 92, 93, and to purify said contaminated air.
  • the unit includes an apparatus housing 1 which is conve ⁇ niently mounted on wheels, so that it can be moved easily to a temporary working site.
  • the apparatus hous ⁇ ing includes an optionally cleanable coarse filter 43 (metal filter) and an exchangeable filter 4 which is constructed for extraction of the contaminant or contam ⁇ inants concerned.
  • the unit also includes a fan 5 which functions to draw air through an inlet opening 2.
  • a suction line 3 is connected to the inlet opening 2.
  • the suction line 3 may contain flexible parts 31, 32 and is conveniently provided with a hood 33 at its free end, to provide effective suction of flue gas from the working site at a low suction rate.
  • the filter 4 may be a parti ⁇ cle separator or a gas separator, depending on the nature of the contaminant(s) concerned.
  • the filters 4 can be exchanged in a manner not shown and have a filter inlet opening 41 and a filter outlet opening 42 which are connected to corresponding connec ⁇ tions in a flow line 6 which includes the fan 5 and which extends between the housing inlet opening 2 and the housing outlet opening 51.
  • the top of the apparatus housing 1 is fitted with a cover or lid 10 which has a relatively large surface area and which is pivotally mounted to the housing by a hinge means 10'.
  • the inlet opening or suction opening 2 has the form of an inlet pipe mounted in the lid 10.
  • the table 11 may be a loose, separate unit which is placed in position after removing/lifting-up the lid 10, as shown in the drawing, or may be a permanent fixture mounted on upstanding supportive means 44, in which case the lid 10 must be given a suitable size adapted thereto.
  • upstanding table supportive means 44 and the screen- ing plate 12 there is defined a suction gap which extends around the perimeter of the table 11. This suction gap forms part of the flow line 6 and connects with the filter inlet 41.
  • the fan motor may be a three-phase electric motor to which current is supplied through a cable 8, and a phase inverter may be coupled in the cable 8 for reversing the direction of rotation of the fan motor.
  • the fan 5 is a radial fan
  • this phase inversion can result in a suitable flow reduction, so as to adapt the flow to the needs that prevail at the working table 11, while reducing the level of noise at the same time.
  • We have observed a decrease in air flow of about 70% when employing phase inversion with a radial fan (in addition to pronounced noise attenuation) which has been found a suitable reduction.
  • the lid 10 need not be hinged, but may be capable of being dismantled in some other way so as to expose the table 11.
  • the embodiment illustrated in Figure 2 has a permanently exposed table 11 with an underlying screening plate 12 such as to define a peripheral suction gap 16 which con ⁇ nects with a two-way valve 14 via a suction line section 62.
  • the inlet pipe 2 also connects with the valve 14 via a suction line 61.
  • An outlet line 63 extends between the valve 14 and the filter inlet 41.
  • the valve 14 can be switched by means of a switching device 15, so that air will be sucked into the filter 4 either through the suc ⁇ tion gap 16 or through the inlet pipe 12, and there cleaned.
  • the opening 2 and the gap 16 are, in principle, coupled in series with the flow line 6, whereas in the Figure 2 embodiment, the opening 2 and the gap 16 are, in principle, connected in parallel to the filter inlet opening through the medium of a two-way valve.
  • the hood or the lid 10 are constructed to seal against the apparatus housing when in position, so as to cover the table 11 (or the table supportive means 44) so that the suction flow will move solely in the intended flow line, and the hood or lid has a size and a position in relation to the filter which will enable the filter to be removed through the opening covered by the lid 10.
