Definitions

  • the invention relates to an elastic knee brace of the type to slip into or put on, preferably an open knee brace for putting on.
  • knee supports and orthoses are used for prophylactic protection of the knee joint, but also to support the function of a slightly or severely damaged or aging knee.
  • the elastic effect of knee supports supports the ligaments and muscles, while the knee orthoses are supposed to additionally strengthen and support the ligaments and muscles of the knee with non-elastic, bone-like rigid elements.
  • hinge points of orthoses are difficult to place and, above all, can be incorporated into the movement process.
  • a bending knee does not behave like a simple hinge with a fixed pivot point, rather it moves continuously as the condyle rolls, which is very difficult to reproduce biomechanically.
  • the elastic support mechanisms in the form of bandages of all kinds are still proving their worth. It is now the goal of the invention to create a knee bandage, the elastic pulling effects of which support the ligamentous and muscular apparatus of the knee in a more targeted manner than is the case with simple elastic knee tights.
  • the invention is based on the following idea.
  • the proportion of bony guidance in the knee joint is quite low despite the striking tensile, compressive and torsional load capacity, the main load is borne by the passive ligament and the active musculoskeletal system, which "hold" the knee joint.
  • In addition to simple, direct connections such as the ligamentum col laterale, there are also more or less crossed connections such as the ligamentum - cruciatum anterius in interaction with the ligamentum - cruciatum posterius (cruciate ligaments) as stronger or like the menisci.als weaker crossed connections. While the steeper crossed cruciate ligaments are arranged in the area between the condyles, the weakly crossed menisci surround the condyles in the outer area.
  • the collateral ligaments and the ligamentum patallae with the tendo quadricipitis connect the femur with the tibia and fibula in a direct connection. All these inclined to straight connections are optimally loaded in their interaction in practically every load, tensile, compressive, rotational load and mixed forms thereof. Knee braces that really replicate this mechanism cannot exist for reasons of arrangement, but they can be projected of this biological holding device on the joint periphery with the elastic bands following the course of the projection, a very good joint aid can be realized.

  • the diagonal course of the diagonal ligaments supports the holding effect of the ligament and muscle apparatus of the knee joint during rotational movements between the femur and the tibia: in the cruciate ligaments, the bandage diagonal ligament 22 relieves, for example, the posterior cruciate ligament 11 and the bandage diagonal ligament 23 the anterior cruciate ligament 10.

  • the present construction In contrast to the commercially available knee bandages, which only perform their supporting function by means of transverse pressure, the present construction also provides a pronounced longitudinal support by the pulling of the diagonal bands.

  • the elastic bands are preferably woven in such a way that they can also be bent in the plane of the band due to the different elastic strengths of the edges. Such tapes are commercially available in various strengths.
  • the knee brace shown in Figure 4 also has the following advantages for comfort. Between the point of intersection of the diagonal bands and the thigh cuff there is a free point P as a patella guide for the patella. In addition to being better guided, the kneecap is not exposed to pressure in the direction of the joint, which is quite the case with the usual knee supports. This otherwise unavoidable pressure is kept as low as possible in the case of Schiupf bandages, for example by loose knitting, in the knee bandage according to the invention this is no longer necessary. Furthermore, the knee brace according to the invention is completely open in the area of the hollow of the knee, so that even with maximum deflection, for example when crouching, there is no fear of any annoying wrinkling.
  • FIG. 5 shows the knee brace of FIG. 4 in its open form. It is unmistakable to see that, despite the challenging topological conditions of the bandage around the moving knee joint, there are simple manufacturing conditions.

  • the same can be done with the diagonal bands 22, 23, which, in a superimposed manner, are crossed at points 28 with the eyes. not all of the seams are sewn and, for example, have a lower elasticity on the sides 33 than on the other parallel side. In this way, the diagonal bands gently nestle against the kneecap without pushing it up.
  • the thigh cuffs are open at their ends and provided with fasteners 2 ⁇ , 27. Tapes with the well-known Velcro fastener are highly recommended. In this way, the thigh cuff is not only provided with a flat, supple miss, but also its size can be adjusted according to normal or sporting loads. Incidentally, the Velcro fastener is easy to eat and easy to open and its holding power has been proven. Such Velcro fastener pairs 2etten, 27, simply fastened with seams 29, are shown in FIG. 5, wherein it remains open to use other fastening means such as buckles, etc.
  • FIG. 6 finally shows an embodiment in which one of the openings P for the patella is designed in such a way that effective (reinforced) patella guidance is possible with simple additional means.
  • a ring 35 arranged in the area of the opening P, for example made of rubber, silicone or the like. existing, which is held here with straps attached to the upper and lower leg cuff, the reinforced patella guide can be realized quite easily.
  • Figure 6 shows an advantageous embodiment of the knee brace with a longer thigh cuff and a shorter lower leg cuff, as is appropriate in the usual anatomical conditions of the leg. Eyes 38 are drawn here as closure means, into which the band ends 39 can be looped. The dimensions of the length of the diagonal bands and the crossing angle are based on anatomical requirements.
