Abstract
El proceso para producir ácido metacrílico o sus ésteres comprende la descarboxilación catalizada con base, de al menos un ácido dicarboxílico seleccionado de ácido itacónico, citracónico o mesacónico o sus mezclas en un medio de reacción acuoso, a una temperatura de 200°C a 239°C, donde el ácido es aislado del medio de reacción acuoso por un proceso de purificación que no incluye la introducción de solvente orgánico en el medio de reacción para la extracción de solvente del ácido metacrílico en una fase orgánica. Se describe además un método para preparar polímeros o copolímeros de los mismos
