PATENT FFICE.
PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
DESIGN FOR A MEDALLON CAST.
Specification forming part of Design No. 9,245,
dated April 25. lrl; application filed April l, 1876.
[Term of Patent 31k years] To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J Us'rINIEN REVEL, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State ot' Pennsylvania, haveoriginated and designed a Pattern for Medallions or Casts', and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation ot' the same, reference being had to the annexed photograph, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my design is fully represented in the accompanying photographic illustration, to which reference is made.
The object of my design is to produce in plaster a medallion or cast commemorative of the Centennial Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. It consists of a body or ground preferably of oval or elliptical form, having upon its upper field a scrol bearing the word Centennial at its central portion, 1771i upon one of its oating ends, and 1876 upon the other. Below this scroll is a bust of George Washington, flanked by two American iags, the staffs of which are provided with liberty-caps and floating tassels. Below the bust is a' representation of the American eagle with outstretched wings, bearing in its talons the thunderbolts of Jove and branch of laurel, and a floating scroll or pennon bearing the inscription,
Glory to Washington. The eagle is surmounted b v a halo havingiu its rays the Star ot'E1npire,aud is standing upon the crank ot the liberty bell, which announced to the citizens ot' Philadelphia the passage and adoption ot' the Declaration of Independence. This bell shows the line oi' fracture and bears the usual inscriptions, being, il fact, a facsimile in miniature of the historical bell.
The various figures and emblelnatic devices will be in alto-relievo, but I may make them in hassrelief if I so elect.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for a medallion cast composed of the scroll bearing the words Centennial 7 and the dates 1876 an Washington, the flanking standards, the eagle with outspread wings surmonuted by u halo, the liberty bell and the floating peunonor scroll bearing the words, ington, substantially as described, and shown in the accompanying drawing.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
J USTINIEN REVEL.
