Description
011 860 OR 0109650 EX Specification forming part of Design No. 10,650., dated April 23, 1878; application filed November 6, 1877.
[Term of patent 7 years.]
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM A. L. MILLER, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
-' DESIGN FOR CABINET-JEWELRY.
Specification forming part of Design N ol0,650, dated April 23, 1878; application filed November 6, 1877. [Term of patent 7 years] To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. L. MILLER, of the city and county of San Francisco, and State of California, have originated and designed a new and ornamental form or shape for Cabinet-Jewelry, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing, mak ing part of this specification.
My design relates to that particular class of jewelry which is known as cabinet-jewelry. In this class of jewelry the ornamentation consists in filling cavities in the article with small particles of ore or other substance of variegated colors, and then covering the cavities with glass or other transparent face or covering, so that the ore particles can be seen through the glass.
My design consists in making the partition between the cavities either circular or semicircular, and then covering them with a circular or semicircular glass or other transparcut face or cover, and tillin g the cavities with the particles of ore or other subslance, so as to form a cylindrical or semi-cylindrical article of jewelry with a plain glass cover, unob' structed on the outside of the glass by any bars, ribs, or other device that will hide or cover up any portion of the ore.
1 am aware that articles of cabinet-jewelry have been made cylindrical in form; but they have always been constructed with ribs, braces, or bars on the outside of the glass, which destroyed in a measure the beauty of the cabinet-work by covering up or concealing a large portion of it, whereas my jewelry exhibits an entire circular or semicircular face of ore without obstructions.
What I claim as my invention is- The design for the transparent covering piece or face in cabinet-jewelry, the same consisting of the plain, semi-cylindrical, or convex glass, whereby the material is exposed to view withoutobstruction, substantiallyasdescribed, and shown in the accompanying drawings.
WILLIAM A. L. MILLER.
