UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHRISTIAN HERTER, 01* NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR A GASALIER.
Specification forming part of Design No. 8,696., dated October 5, 1675; application filed August 27, 1875. [Term of Patent 3. years] To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN HERTER, of the city of New York, N. Y., have invented a Design for a Gasalier or Chandelier, of which the following is a specification The photographic illustration shows the nature of my design, the design for which is in part an adaptation of a certain design for which I have made application for Letters Patent.
its distinctive novelty consists, first, in the configuration and ornamentation ottheccntral pipe; and, second, in the arrangement of the burners, as more fully appears hereinafter.
A is the central pipe, the decoration of which begins with the globe B, below which is the vase (J, having the arms 0. These elements are above the plane of the most elevated burners. A shortdistance below is the small disk 1), and the body of the gasalier is formed of the large disk E, the pipe terminating in the ornamental piece H, which is decorated with the conventional heads .20 and rings 3 The details of these several parts and their efl'ect will be understood upon reference to the illustration.
The sundry other pipes and the supports and decorations, other than those upon the pipe A, I do not claim herein, as they are substantially described and claimed in a certain application for Letters Patent made by me this day, and to which reference is here made. But I arrange them in a novel manner by so connecting the horizontal pipes or bars I with the disk E that they occupy positions that are tangent to an imaginar Y circle drawn to strike the outer range of lights.
I prefer to make the metallic parts of light polished brass, and the wooden decorations black and polished, as aforesaid, beingadaptations also, in this respect, of the design hereinbefore alluded to, and which are not claimed as new in themselves, or in their combination herein, except as hereinafter stated; but 1 do not consider the colors selected as an essential element of my design.
But what I claim as novel, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A design for a gasalier, in which a vase or other similar decoration is attached to the central pipe above the plane of the most elevated burner.
2. A design for a gasalier, in which a horizontal disk or piece constitutes the body of the gasalier, substantially as shown.
3. The design of the central pipe A, decoated substantially as shown.
4. The design for a terminal ornament, H, substantially as shown.
5. A design for a gasalier, in which straight horizontal pipes are arranged tangent to an inniginary circle that passesthrough the outer range oflights, substantially as set forth.
6. A design for a gasalier, substantially as set forth.
Witness my hand this 21st day of August, A. I). 1875.
