UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL \V. l ONVLER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIUNOR TO F. H. LOVEIJIJ & (10., OF SAME PLAUE.
DESIGN FOR LAMP-CHIMNEY.
Specification forming part of Design No. 10,414, dated January 29,1878; application filed November 30, 1877. [Term of patent 7 years] To all whom 'it may conccm Be it known that 1, SAMUEL W. FOWLER, of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Designs for Lam p- (Jhimneyc; and I do herehydeolare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in designs for lamp-chimneys and it consists in giving the chimney a new and beautiful configuration or shape, so as to add to its attractive appearance, as will be more fully de scribed hereinafter.
The accompanying drawings represent my invention.
it represents the base of the chimney, which is made of any shape desired, so as to fit over the burner. The body of the chimney is flattened upon two opposite sides, so that in crosssection its diameter through theflattened sides is somewhat less than the diameter of the base. Upon each of these flattened sides there is made a conical bulge, I), the upper end of which ends in a point, while thelower portion is made rounding, as shown, so as to conibrm, to the shape of the chimney.
The two edges of the chimney are so formed as to present two or more flat snr aces, (l, instead of being made round, as is usual. The upper end of the chimney has its edges 0 flared outwc rd, as shown, and this upper end may be ornamented upon two or more of its sides by means of the ornamental heads 9, if so preferred. These heads do not, however, form any essential part of my invention, and may be dispensed with, if so preferred.
Having thus described my invention, I clain1 As a design for a lamp-chimney, the two flat sides, having the bulges b formed thereon, the edges formed so as to present flat surfaces, and the outwaully-turned upper edges 0, as
, shown.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 23d day of November, 1877.
SAMUEL W'. FOWVLER. [L 8.]
