CHARLES F. A. HINRIOHS, OF BROOKLYN, NEiV YORK.
DESIGN FOR LAMP-SHADE.
Specification forming part of Design No. 8,489, dated July 20, 1875; application filed January 8, 1875.
[Term of Patent 7 years] To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES F. A. HIN- RICHS, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented or produced a Design for a Lamp'Shadc, of which the following is a description This lamp-shade is of opalescent glass, adapted to the lamp known as the studentlamp.
The design of the shape and configuration of this shade is represented in the sectional view of the drawing.
The general conformation of the shade is conoidal, the surface from a to I) being but slightly convex, and from b to c the section is parabolic, and terminates with a contracted bottom rim, d. The top part of this shade is provided with an opening of a slightly .larger diameter than the ordinary lamp-chimney, and the shape and configuration of the ornamental upper portion 6 is that of a trumpetmouth, and there may be bands around the same at 27.
I do not claim a lamp-shade with a convex surface and trumpet-mouth, as the same is shown in Fig. 128 of \Vebstefis Encyclopedia of Domestic Economy. In this case the shade is considerably wider at its larger part than the base, and considerable reflective power .-.s lost.
I claim- The design of the shape and configuration of the shade, as shown, consisting of the conoidal portion a b, parabolic portion 1) c, contracted rim d, and trumpet-mouth portion 0, as set forth.
Signed by me this 5th day of January, 1875.
